  • LINQ to SQL Could not find key member. Only fails on server.

    I have a scenario where I am inheriting from an abstract class in my partial linq to sql auto generated class implementation. My base abstract class has an abstract property called ID which I have flagged inside my LINQ to SQL model with the instance modifier override. This works fine locally without any issues. I have also done some development on another machine and it works fine there too (both in VS2008 and using Subversion). I am running CI with TeamCity and the build succeeds and deploys as desired. The problem is when the server tries to hit the database for the first time via the LINQ to SQL data context, it generates the following error. "Could not find key member 'Id' of key 'Id' on type 'CustomType'. The key may be wrong or the field or property on 'CustomType' has changed names." I have tried changing my configuration by not implementing the Id field in my base class but this still fails. Why does it work on both of my DEV machines but not on the server? I am using LINQ to SQL in another project that runs on this server just fine. FYI: LINQ to SQL, SQL 2008, .NET 3.5, SERVER 2008, IIS 7.0 UPDATE I have gone back and added the same table a second time in the same data model but without a base class and have then displayed the results from that table and got no errors. This tells me it has something to do with my base abstract class and the need to flag a property on one of my linq to sql model classes (that belongs to a key relationship) with the instance modifier of override. No answer to this yet but am getting closer. UPDATE I have fixed my issue by simply changing my approach to my problem but I am still interested in why this doesn't work. I created a new WinSrv2008 VPC and patched it, deployed a pre-built version of my site to it and still got the same error. I now assume the issue is like what the person said here, a dependency issue with VS2008. My question is what or what? Will install VS2008 on the VPC to see if it works after that.

  • Declaration of arrays before "normal" variables in c?

    Hi We are currently developing an application for a msp430 MCU, and are running into some weird problems. We discovered that declaring arrays withing a scope after declaration of "normal" variables, sometimes causes what seems to be undefined behavior. Like this: foo(int a, int *b); int main(void) { int x = 2; int arr[5]; foo(x, arr); return 0; } foo sometimes is passed a pointer as the second variable, that does not point to the arr array. We verify this by single stepping through the program, and see that the value of the arr variable in the main scope is not the same as the value of the b pointer variable in the foo scope. And no, this is not really reproduceable, we have just observed this behavior once in a while. Changing the example seems to solve the problem, like this: foo(int a, int *b); int main(void) { int arr[5]; int x = 2; foo(x, arr); return 0; } Does anybody have any input or hints as to why we experience this behavior? Or similar experiences? The MSP430 programming guide specifies that code should conform to the ANSI C89 spec. and so I was wondering if it says that arrays has to be declared before non-array variables? Any input on this would be appreciated.

    I have a form in which I have many checkboxes. I need to post the data to the controller upon any checkbox checked or unchecked, i.e a click on a checbox must post to the controller, and there is no submit button. What will be the bet method in this case? I have though of Ajax.BeginForm and have the codes below. The problem im having is that the checkbox click event is being detected only once and after that the click event isnt being launched. Why is that so?     I have two widgets that can be checked, and a numeric entry field that should contain a value greater than zero. Whenever both widgets have been checked, and the numeric entry field contains a value greater than zero, a button should be enabled. I am struggling with defining a proper state machine for this situation.     I was working with a certain XML where there were no redundancies <person> <eye> <eye_info> <eye_color> blue </eye_color> </eye_info> </eye> <hair> <hair_info> <hair_color> blue </hair_color> </hair_info> </hair> </person> As you can see, the sub-tag eye-color makes reference to eye in it's name, so there was no need to avoid redundancies, I could get the eye color in a single line after loading the XML into a dataset: dataset.ReadXml(path); value = dataset.Tables("eye_info").Rows(0)("eye_color"); I do realise it's not the smartest way of doing so, and this situation I'm having now wasn't unforeseen. Now, let's say I have to read xml's that are in this format: <person> <eye> <info> <color> blue </color> </info> </eye> <hair> <info> <color> blue </color> </info> </hair> </person> So If I try to call it like this: dataset.ReadXml(path); value = dataset.Tables("info").Rows(0)("color"); There will be a redundancy, because I could only go as far as one up level to identify a single field in a XML with my previous method, and the 'disambiguator' is three levels above. Is there a practical way to reach with no mistake a single field given all the above (or at least a few) fields ?

Is this even possible ? The reason why I am using Silverlight is that I want to preview the image before uploading it to server and it is very simple in Silverlight. I failed to do that in JavaScript and that is why Silverlight might be more useful here.

    How can I let a user access a WordPress protected page with a URL that will submit the password in the form below? I want to be able to let a user get to a password protected WordPress page without needing to type the password, so when they go to the page, the password is submitted by a POST URL on page load. This not intended to be secure in any respect; I'll need to hardcode the password in the URL and the PHP. It's just for simplicity for the user, and once they're in, the cookie will let them in for 10 more days. I will select the particular user with separate PHP function that determines their IP or WordPress login status. I used Wireshark to find the POST string: post_password=mypassword&Submit=Submit but using this URL mydomain.com/wp-pass.php?post_password=mypassword&Submit=Submit gives me a blank page. Like empty decimal field is converted to "0.000". Can someone please help in way to read the empty fields as they are and not as default values.

  • Background worker not working right

    I have created a background worker to go and run a pretty long task that includes creating more threads which will read from a file of urls and crawl each. I tried following it through debugging and found that the background process ends prematurely for no apparent reason. Is there something wrong in the logic of my code that is causing this. I will try and paste as much as possible to make sense.   • Why might stable_sort be affecting my hashtable values?

    I have defined a struct ABC to contain an int ID, string NAME, string LAST_NAME; My procedure is this: Read in a line from an input file. Parse each line into first name and last name and insert into the ABC struct. Also, the struct's ID is given by the number of the input line. Then, push_back the struct into a vector masterlist. I am also hashing these to a hashtable defined as vector< vector , using first name and last name as keywords. That is, If my data is: Garfield Cat Snoopy Dog Cat Man Then for the keyword cash hashes to a vector containing Garfield Cat and Cat Man. I insert the structs into the hashtable using push_back again. The problem is, when I call stable_sort on my masterlist, my hashtable is affected for some reason. I thought it might be happening since the songs are being ordered differently, so I tried making a copy of the masterlist and sorting it and it still affects the hashtable though the original masterlist is unaffected. Any ideas why this might be happening?

    I'm working on a tool which converts PHP code to Scala. As one of the finishing touches, I'm in need of a really good (er, somewhat biased) benchmark. By dumb luck my first benchmark attempt was with some code which uses bcmath extensively, which unfortunately is 1000x slower in Java, making the Scala code 22x slower overall than the original PHP. So I'm looking for some meaningful PHP benchmark with the following characteristics: The PHP source needs to be in a single file. It should solve a real-world problem. No silly looping over empty methods etc. I need it to be simple to setup - no databases, hard-to-find input files, etc. Simple text input and output preferred. It should not use features that are slow in Java (BigInteger, trigonometric functions, etc). It should not use exoteric or dynamic PHP functions (e.g. no "eval" or "variable vars"). It should not over-rely on built-in libraries, e.g. MD5, crypt, etc. It should not be I/O bound. A CPU-bound memory-hungry algorithm is preferred. Basically, intensive OO operations, integer and string manipulation, recursion, etc would be great. Thanks

    Hey Guys, Lets say the model for books is: created_at user_id (int) author_id (int) genre_id (int) pages (int) I want to let people change the "created_at" field upon record creation. I also want to make sure that a record can't have the exact same created_at, user_id, and author_id as any other record (i.e. each needs its own date).     First post here. I have a asp/vb6 web app that logs in a user I want to encrypt the users identity field and pass(querystring) it to a asp.net app and then decrypt it to do a db lookup. I've google'd it of course and found rot13, not secure enough. I've also found some hits on MD5 / RC4 but did not find any good examples of encrypt / decrypt. Thanks, Michael
