• bluetooth daemon not running at startup

  I'm trying to connect a bluetooth mouse to my Xubuntu system using Blueman (v. 1.21) Problem seems to be bluetoothd not running at startup, so blueman refuses to start, only a dialog appears: "Bluez daemon is not running, blueman-manager cannot continue." On my system, bluetoothd will run only as root (sudo), so my current workaround is simply to sudo bluetoothd manually, which works fine but id like to have it run at startup so that my mouse is just working without any interaction from me, if possible. If i try to start bluetoothd as non-root it reports: Bluetooth deamon 4.91 Unable to get on D-Bus In the startup scripts i found the same bluetoothd script in all runlevels and init.d: DAEMON=/usr/sbin/bluetoothd test -f /usr/sbin/bluetoothd || exit 0 # bluetoothd normally starts up by udev rules. it needs dbus to function, log_progress_msg "bluetoothd" pkill -TERM bluetoothd || true log_progress_msg "bluetoothd" I looked in /etc/udev/rules.d/ but no reference to bluetoothd. Further i have already tried with no luck: Editing /etc/dbus-1/system.d/bluetooth.conf to include my user (essentially copying the part that was for root): I tried it while both keeping the root policy and without, still, no luck! Editing /etc/pam.d/common-session and /etc/pam.d/gdm to include the line: session optional pam_ck_connector.so In the case of common-session it was already there but with a "nox11" which i tried removing. No luck no luck. Btw, I'm confused as to which session manager I'm using, since i have both xfce4-session and gdm-session-worker running. Anyways, hope someone is savvy enough to figure it out or bring some hints, otherwise i sincerely apologize for wasting your time! • Ditch cPanel / WHM in favour of manual seup

  We currently use cPanel / WHM on a reseller account but are looking at getting a dedicated server. My first thought was to duplicate this set up on the dedicated box to allow us to quickly create new accounts. I'll be a managed server so they'll have set up the LAMP stack. I'm curious if I actually need cPanel and WHM. We don't use many of the features from cPanel / WHM, just creating accounts and databases, clients do not have FTP access. I'm no sys admin and come from a Windows / GUI background but have some knowledge in setting up development servers. WHM: Creating accounts I presume this sets up the Apache virtual host, FTP access and DNS settings. I've some knowledge of editing the Apache files to create virtual hosts. Am I correct in thinking as long as the DNS is pointing to the server IP and the virtual host is configured the server can serve the (php) pages? I'm not sure I need per site FTP access as only we will have access so I could have a server wide/htdocs only access to view all the site. The company who supply the dedicated hosts would also provide the own DNS management tool so I'm not need to cPanel one. MySQL: Creating users and databases We use cPanel to create the MySQL users and databases. As it's a dedicated box and I can have root access I think this could be replaced by SQLyog for db management and phpMyAdmin for user management. Do you I need cPanel or can I get by editing a few text files for creating the accounts, then use the MySQL tools for databases? Or am I missing something major with how the sites are configured?

• How to monetize and protect a engine's and its framework's copyrights and patents?

  I created a game engine that handles: Rendering levels with 2d textured curved surfaces Collisions with curved surfaces Animationn paths on and navigation in 2d-sapce I have also made a framework for: Procedural organic level generation with round surfaces Level editing Light weight sprite design The engine and framework are written in AS3 and I am in the process of translating the code into HaXe to better support other platforms. I am also interested in adding Animated curved platforms More advanced level editing features Currently, I have a part time job and any time I spend on this engine is either taken out of my limited free time (I'm a student working to support myself through school) or out my time working at my job. I really believe this engine can make life much easier for people designing Tower Defence games, Shooters and and Platformers while also possibly improving their results. It could also support RTS, RPGs and racing games very well. It continains original algorithms that could be used for procedural generation of organic round and smooth levels. The algorithms I used are new and are not available in any other level editor I've seen. In order to constantly improve the Engine and have it tested thoroughly I think the best route is releasing it to the public. What are the best ways to benefit myself and others with my new framework? I want to have some lisence, allowing me to share the framework and still benefit from it. Any advice would be appreciated. This issue has been on my mind a lot this year. I am hoping to find a solution that will bring me some relief. I am thinking of designing three sample games, releasing them and starting a kickstarter, any advice and thoughts on the matter would be valuable. My goal is like Markus von Broady suggested, to get people involved in developing the engine and let people use it for games for either a symbolic fee or for free and charge for support. That or use some form of croud sourcing. Do I need to hire a lawyer to get some sort of legal document to protect my work?

• Joomla: Cross site link boxes

  I am currently evaluating Joomla for use on the the rebuild of our corporate website. One of the features our designs have is spaces for what we've been calling widgets. These widgets include common ones for each page, contact us boxes, section navigation, that all seem pretty easy to implement. The other widgets we would us to highlight specific pages within the site relevant to the one you are on, and are therefore different for each article. We've called these link widgets and these are a pretty common site on many websites. I'm honestly at a bit of a loss as to how to do this with Joomla. From a CMS perspective I'd like to allow users to just select which three link widgets they want when editing the article and have some way of creating the widgets within the CMS as well. Editing the link widget would allow setting a title, a bit of text and selecting the page that it links to. Am I going to be able to do this with Joomla, and if I can roughly how to I go about it ?

• Mouse pointer size inconsistent

  Since installing Ubuntu 12.04, I've been having a problem with the mouse pointer size. On the desktop, it is quite a bit larger than it should be (24), though the different cursors (editing text, hyperlink hand, etc) are correct. The size changes to the correct size when the pointer is over some application windows (GVim, Netbeans, Firefox), but then changes back once it is moved out of the window. There was a similar question here, but the Xdefaults solution did not work for me, and I didn't want to try the one requiring editing the icon image. In addition, I've tried changing the cursor theme using sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme as well as using the dconf-editor, but though I can change the theme, the size issue remains. In case it's relevant, I'm running on a dual-screen setup with monitor sizes of 2560x1600 and 1920x1080, using the NVidia video driver. Is there another way to control pointer size, or a setting that might be messing it up? EDIT: These are the values/options I have for update-alternatives and in dconf-editor. I have done this before when I have access to the server by creating a network share and using Google desktop. I currently do not have access to this subversion server box. Any Ideas? • Which OAuth library do you find works best for Objective-C/iPhone?

  I have been looking to switch to OAuth for my Twitter integration code and now that there is a deadline in less than 7 weeks (see countdown link) it is even more important to make the jump to OAuth. I have been doing Basic Authentication which is extremely easy. Unfortunately OAuth does not appear to be something that I would whip together in a couple of hours. http://www.countdowntooauth.com/ So I am looking to use a library. I have put together the following list. MPOAuth MGTwitterEngine OAuthConsumer I see that MPOAuth has some great features with a good deal of testing code in place but there is one big problem. It does not work. The sample iPhone project that is supposed to authenticate with Twitter causes an error which others have identified and logged as a bug. http://code.google.com/p/mpoauthconnection/issues/detail?id=29 The last code change was March 11 and this bug was filed on March 30. It has been over a month and this critical bug has not been fixed yet. So I have moved on to MGTwitterEngine. I pulled down the source code and loaded it up in Xcode. Immediately I find that there are a few dependencies and the README file does not have a clear list of steps to fetch those dependencies and integrate them with the project so that it builds successfully. I see this as a sign that the project is not mature enough for prime time. I see also that the project references 2 libraries for JSON when one should be enough. One is TouchJSON which has worked well for me so I am again discouraged from relying on this project for my applications. I did find that MGTwitterEngine makes use of OAuthConsumer which is one of many OAuth projects hosted by an OAuth project on Google Code. http://code.google.com/p/oauth/ http://code.google.com/p/oauthconsumer/wiki/UsingOAuthConsumer It looks like OAuthConsumer is a good choice at first glance. It is hosted with other OAuth libraries and has some nice documentation with it. I pulled down the code and it builds without errors but it does have many warnings. And when I run the new Build and Analyze feature in Xcode 3.2 I see 50 analyzer results. Many are marked as potential memory leaks which would likely lead to instability in any app which uses this library. It seems there is no clear winner and I have to go with something before the big Twitter OAuth deadline. Any suggestions?

  Theoretically does hashing a unique value yield a unique value? Let's say I have a DB table with 2 columns: id and code. id is an auto-incrementing int and code is a varchar. If I do ... $code = sha1($id); ... and then store $code into the same row as $id. Will my code column be unique as well? What about if I append the current time? eg: $code = sha1($id . time()); Thanks.

• WebApps tendency

  There is a strong tendency of making web apps and even seems that very soon a lot of features will be available online so that for every day use people will have all necessary software free online and they will not need to install any software locally. Only specific (professional) tools that usually people don’t use at home will not be available as a web app. So my question, how do you imagine selling software that was necessary for everyday use and was not free (seems they can't make money any more by selling their product – no need of those products). And what disadvantages have web apps, that is to say, what is bad to use software online compared with having the same software locally (please list)? Please do not consider this question not connected with programming, as I would like to have a little statistics from professional programmers who are aware from nowday’s tendency of software and programming. • MSBuild command-line error - Silverlight 4 SDK is not installed

  My MSBuild command line is as follows: msbuild e:\code\myProject.csproj /p:Configuration=Debug /p:OutputPath=bin/Debug /p:Platform=x86 /p:PlatformTarget=x86 The project builds fine on my development machine in VS2010 but not with the command above. I am running Win 7 64 - Bit. I'm getting an error that says I don't have the Silverlight 4 SDK installed but I do. I"ve read some posts that you have to set the Platform=x86 but to no avail. I have notice that the syntax is very heavy, every time I modify the source code, I also need to change the comment and I really have the impression to pass too much time modifying the comment for every change I make in the source code. Do you have some tips to document my source code efficiently ? Does some editor (or plugin for existing editor) for doxygen to do the following exist? automatically track unsynchronized code/comment and warn the programmer about it. automatically add doxygen comment format (template with parameter name in it for example) in the source code (template) for every new item PS: I am working on a C/C++ project.

Is there a way to generate accessor methods for the subclasses as shown in the inheritance mapping above (Project, Task, etc...) without doing it manually? I added them manually but then a change in the designer overwrites any manual changes. Am i doing this wrong? should I not be making accessors for the sub classes? filtering from ActivityBase seems worse to me. Thanks for any help on this.
