• Android: SharedPreference: Defaults not set at startup...

    - by Allan
    I have Listpreferences in my app. They don't appear to be setting to their defaults right after installation - they appear to be null. I'm trying to figure out why my default preferences are not being set right after installation. In my main code I have: SharedPreferences sp = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); InUnits = sp.getString("List1", "defValue"); InAngs = sp.getString("List2", "defValue"); OutUnits = sp.getString("List3", "defValue"); OutAngs = sp.getString("List4", "defValue"); Right after the above code executes, each variable contains "defValue" instead of the actual values I have assigned in my ListPreference below. My preference xml file is called, "settings.xml". Here's what one of the ListPreferences there looks like: <ListPreference android:key="List1" android:title="Input: Alph" android:summary="Choose Alph or Ralph" android:entries="@array/inputAlph" android:entryValues="@array/input_Alph_codes" android:dialogTitle="Input Alph" android:defaultValue="ININ"/> Here's what some of my strings.xml file looks like: <string-array name="inputUnits">
Alph

Ralph
</string-array> <string-array name="input_Alph_codes">
ININ

INMM
</string-array> When I go to menu, and then settings, I can see my defaults checked (radiobuttoned). Then when I go back from the settings menu to my main screen - all is well - for life! ...then each var above is assigned the proper default value. This only happens when I first install my app on the phone. After I go to the settings screen once and then right out of it, the app is fine and accepts any setting changes. By the way, as you can see, "List1" is the android:key within a file called settings.xml in my res/xml folder.

  • Java - Trying to log into website with invalid ssl certificate using httpclient

    - by PCBEEF
    I'm trying to log into site with invalid ssl certificate and I have the following code. I bypass the the invalid cert by using my all certificate and then bypass the invalid Hostname by using hostnameverifier. However, the hostnameverifier does not seem to work and I still get the error message javax.net.ssl.SSLException: hostname in certificate didn't match: The code is: public static void main(String[] args) { TrustManager[] trustAllCerts = new TrustManager[] { new X509TrustManager() { public java.security.cert.X509Certificate[] getAcceptedIssuers() { return null; } public void checkClientTrusted( java.security.cert.X509Certificate[] certs, String authType) { } public void checkServerTrusted( java.security.cert.X509Certificate[] certs, String authType) { } } }; HostnameVerifier hv = new HostnameVerifier() { public boolean verify(String urlHostName, SSLSession session) { System.out.println("Warning: URL Host: "+urlHostName+" vs. "+session.getPeerHost()); return true; } }; try { SSLContext sc = SSLContext.getInstance("SSL"); sc.init(null, trustAllCerts, new java.security.SecureRandom()); HttpsURLConnection.setDefaultSSLSocketFactory(sc.getSocketFactory()); HttpsURLConnection.setDefaultHostnameVerifier(hv); } catch (Exception e) { } try { DefaultHttpClient httpclient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpContext localContext = new BasicHttpContext(); List<NameValuePair> formparams = new ArrayList<NameValuePair>(); formparams.add(new BasicNameValuePair("username", "user")); formparams.add(new BasicNameValuePair("password", "pword")); UrlEncodedFormEntity entity; entity = new UrlEncodedFormEntity(formparams, "UTF-8"); HttpPost httppost = new HttpPost("https://www.mysite.com/"); httppost.setEntity(entity); HttpResponse response = httpclient.execute(httppost, localContext); } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } }

In the e.g. below when I am trying to access the parameter attributes or return the return value the compiler complain. Clarifications please. using System; namespace chsarp { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { ParamInput input = new ParamInput(); input.ReservationID = 10; Test testMethod = new Test(); Func<ParamInput, ReservationResult> methodToInvoke = testMethod.GetStatus; ReservationResult result = TestFn(methodToInvoke, input); } static Result TestFn<Param, Result>(Func<Param, Result> methodToInvoke, Param parameter) where Result : new() { Result result = new Result(); try { result = methodToInvoke(parameter); } catch (Exception exception) { result.status = string.Format("Error-{0} during reserving {1}", parameter.ReservationID, exception.Message); } return result; } } class Test { public ReservationResult GetStatus(ParamInput msg) { ReservationResult result = new ReservationResult(); result.status = string.Format("The ReservationID-{0}", msg.ReservationID); return result; } } class ParamInput { public int ReservationID { get; set; } } class ReservationResult { public string status { get; set; } } }

  • Scaling gwt's "Contacts" (sample project) AppController with MVP

    - by brad
    I'm just learning GWT so I'm still trying to sort out all of its quirks and features. I'm reading through the example they give illustrating the MVP pattern, and I pretty much get it, except I'm wondering about one thing. The AppController they use implements the ValueChangeHandler interface and the onValueChange method is triggered when history changes. My problem is with this onValueChange in the AppController (i've included it below for anyone who hasn't seen the sample project). It's doing a string comparison on the history token sent in and instantiating the appropriate presenter to handle the action. This is all fine and dandy for the sample app with 3 actions, but how would one scale this to a real app with many more actions? Sticking to this pattern would lead to a pretty large/ugly else if, but I'm still too new to GWT (and java) to infer a better pattern for larger apps. Any help is greatly appreciated! public class AppController implements Presenter, ValueChangeHandler<String> { ... public void onValueChange(ValueChangeEvent<String> event) { String token = event.getValue(); if (token != null) { Presenter presenter = null; if (token.equals("list")) { presenter = new ContactsPresenter(rpcService, eventBus, new ContactsView()); } else if (token.equals("add")) { presenter = new EditContactPresenter(rpcService, eventBus, new EditContactView()); } else if (token.equals("edit")) { presenter = new EditContactPresenter(rpcService, eventBus, new EditContactView()); } if (presenter != null) { presenter.go(container); } } } }

  • NSDate dateFromString, how to parse 'around' UTC, GMT and User locale?

    - by RickiG
    Hi I parse some values from an xml file. There is a @"25-12-2010'T'23:40:00"string with the time and date and there is a string with the GMT offset like this @"+0200". So the above time is the 25. of December 23:40:00 in timeZone +0200 GMT. (or 21:40 UTC) I have lots of these dates with different GMT offsets. I have to display these dates as they are, i.e. They must not be changed to fit the locale of the user. So if time 1: is 22:45 +0500 then that is what I must show the user, even if the user is in a different timezone. I have all sorts of trouble with displaying, calculating and parsing these strings. If I use a dateFormatter and dateFromString the user specific GMT info will be included in the resulting NSDate meaning the above will be saved as 23:40:00 +0100 GMT because that is my phones setting and maybe 23:40:00 -0400 on a user from new New York's phone. When I subsequently do subtraction, addition and comparisons between these dates I have to keep the GMT offset around and everything gets worse if the phone switches locale settings, from when the date was parsed to when the date is displayed... Is there a way for me to extract this date from the string as UTC, then save it as an interval instead of an actual (timezone dependent) date. I know that is how dates are always saved internally. But I can't figure out how to do it with the separate GMT string and taking into account the users locale. Cheers

  • Problem adding Contact with new API

    - by Mike
    Hello, I am trying to add a new contact to my contact list using the new ContactContract API via my application. I have the following method based on the Contact Manager example on android dev. private static void addContactCore(Context context, String accountType, String accountName, String name, String phoneNumber, int phoneType) throws RemoteException, OperationApplicationException { ArrayList<ContentProviderOperation> ops = new ArrayList<ContentProviderOperation>(); //Add contact type ops.add(ContentProviderOperation.newInsert(ContactsContract.RawContacts.CONTENT_URI) .withValue(ContactsContract.RawContacts.ACCOUNT_TYPE, accountType) .withValue(ContactsContract.RawContacts.ACCOUNT_NAME, accountName) .build()); //Add contact name ops.add(ContentProviderOperation.newInsert(ContactsContract.Data.CONTENT_URI) .withValueBackReference(ContactsContract.Data.RAW_CONTACT_ID, 0) .withValue(ContactsContract.Data.MIMETYPE, ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.StructuredName.CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE) .withValue(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.StructuredName.DISPLAY_NAME, (!name.toLowerCase().equals("unavailable") && !name.equals("")) ? name : phoneNumber) .build()); //Add phone number ops.add(ContentProviderOperation.newInsert(ContactsContract.Data.CONTENT_URI) .withValueBackReference(ContactsContract.Data.RAW_CONTACT_ID, 0) .withValue(ContactsContract.Data.MIMETYPE, ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE) .withValue(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.NUMBER, phoneNumber) .withValue(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.TYPE, phoneType) .build()); //Add contact context.getContentResolver().applyBatch(ContactsContract.AUTHORITY, ops); } In one example I have the flowing values for the parameters. accountType:com.google accountName:(my google account email) name:Mike phoneNumber:5555555555 phoneType:3 The call to the function returns normally without any exception being thrown however the contact is no where to be found in the contact manager on my phone. There is also no contact with that information on my phone already. Does anyone have any insight into what I might be doing wrong?

  • Creating an Ajax.ActionLink that avoids all caching issues

    - by Richard Ev
    I am using an Ajax.ActionLink to display a partial view that shows a settings dialog (the modality of which is arranged using jQuery UI dialog). The issue I am running into is around browser caching. It is important that the user is never shown a cached settings dialog. In an attempt to achieve this I have written the following extension method that has the same method signature as the ActionLink method overload that I am using. ///
/// Defines an AJAX ActionLink that effectively bypasses browser caching issues /// by adding an additional route value that contains a unique (actually DateTime.Now.Ticks) value. ///
public static MvcHtmlString NonCachingActionLink(this AjaxHelper helper, string linkText, string actionName, string controllerName, System.Web.Routing.RouteValueDictionary routeValues, AjaxOptions ajaxOptions) { routeValues.Add("rnd", DateTime.Now.Ticks); return helper.ActionLink(linkText, actionName, controllerName, routeValues, ajaxOptions); } This works well between browser sessions (as the rnd route value gets re-calculated on page load), but not if the user is on the page, makes settings changes, saves them (which is done with another ajax call) and then re-displays the settings dialog. My next step is to look into creating my own ActionLink equivalent that re-calculates a random query string component as part of the onclick JavaScript event handler. Thoughts please.

  • JPA Lookup Hierarchy Mapping

    - by Andy Trujillo
    Given a lookup table: | ID | TYPE | CODE | DESCRIPTION | | 1 | ORDER_STATUS | PENDING | PENDING DISPOSITION | | 2 | ORDER_STATUS | OPEN | AWAITING DISPOSITION | | 3 | OTHER_STATUS | OPEN | USED BY OTHER ENTITY | If I have an entity: @MappedSuperclass @Table(name="LOOKUP") @Inheritance(strategy=InheritanceType.SINGLE_TABLE) @DiscriminatorColumn(name="TYPE", discriminatorType=DiscriminatorType.STRING) public abstract class Lookup { @Id @Column(name="ID") int id; @Column(name="TYPE") String type; @Column(name="CODE") String code; @Column(name="DESC") String description; ... } Then a subclass: @Entity @DiscriminatorValue("ORDER_STATUS") public class OrderStatus extends Lookup { } The expectation is to map it: @Entity @Table(name="ORDERS") public class OrderVO { ... @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name="STATUS", referencedColumnName="CODE") OrderStatus status; ... } So that the CODE is stored in the database. I expected that if I wrote: OrderVO o = entityManager.find(OrderVO.class, 123); the SQL generated using OpenJPA would look something like: SELECT t0.id, ..., t1.CODE, t1.TYPE, t1.DESC FROM ORDERS t0 LEFT OUTER JOIN LOOKUP t1 ON t0.STATUS = t1.CODE AND t1.TYPE = 'ORDER_STATUS' WHERE t0.ID = ? But the actual SQL that gets generated is missing the AND t1.TYPE = 'ORDER_STATUS' This causes a problem when the CODE is not unique. Is there a way to have the discriminator included on joins or am I doing something wrong here?

  • WCF - Increase ReaderQuoatas on REST service

    - by Christo Fur
    I have a WCF REST Service which accepts a JSON string One of the parameters is a large string of numbers This causes the following error - which is visible by tracing and using SVC Trace Viewer There was an error deserializing the object of type CarConfiguration. The maximum string content length quota (8192) has been exceeded while reading XML data. This quota may be increased by changing the MaxStringContentLength property on the XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas object used when creating the XML reader. Now I've read all sorts of articles advising how to rectify this All of them recommend increasing various config settings on the server and client e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/65452/error-serializing-string-in-webservice-call http://bloggingabout.net/blogs/ramon/archive/2008/08/20/wcf-and-large-messages.aspx http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/wcf/thread/f570823a-8581-45ba-8b0b-ab0c7d7fcae1 So my config file looks like this <webHttpBinding> <binding name="webBinding" maxBufferSize="5242880" maxReceivedMessageSize="5242880" > <readerQuotas maxDepth="5242880" maxStringContentLength="5242880" maxArrayLength="5242880" maxBytesPerRead="5242880" maxNameTableCharCount="5242880"/> </binding> </webHttpBinding> ... ... ... <endpoint address="/" binding="webHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="webBinding" My problem is that I can change this on the server, but there are no WCF config settings on the client as its a REST service and I'm just making a http request using the WebClient object any ideas?

  • make emacs in a terminal use dark colors and not light font-lock colors

    - by vy32
    I am using emacs on MacOS 10.6 with Terminal. I have a white background. It's very hard to read quoted C++ strings. They are coming up in pale green. Keywords are in turquoise. After searching through the source I cam across cpp.el and have determined that I am using the cpp-face-light-name-list instead of cpp-face-dark-name-list. Apparently this function is supposed to chose the correct list based on the background color: (defcustom cpp-face-default-list nil "Alist of faces you can choose from for cpp conditionals. Each element has the form (STRING . FACE), where STRING serves as a name (for `cpp-highlight-buffer' only) and FACE is either a face (a symbol) or a cons cell (background-color . COLOR)." :type '(repeat (cons string (choice face (cons (const background-color) string)))) :group 'cpp) But it doesn't seem to be working. What should I put in my .emacs file so that I get the cpp-face-dark-list instead of cpp-face-light-list? Thanks!

  • Custumizing Syntax Highlighting in Vim

    - by sixtyfootersdude
    Hey I have defined a few custom file types for vim. I have done this like this: In vimrc: au BufWinEnter,BufRead,BufNewFile *.jak set filetype=jak And then in jak.vim syn match arrows /<-/ syn match arrows /->/ syn match arrows /=>/ syn match arrows /<=/ highlight arrows ctermfg=brown ... This works. (Formatting applies to any file opened with vim with file extension .jak) My question is how I can keep all the current formatting for a file type but add functionality. For example I would like to add this functionality for .vim files: syn keyword yellow yellow highlight yellow ctermfg=yellow ... (so that I can see how my terminal interpenetrates different colors before choosing them.) I have created ~/.vim/syntax/vim.vim (file only contains the above) and put this into my vimrc: au BufWinEnter,BufRead,BufNewFile *.vim set filetype=vim This has no effect. The word yellow is not colored yellow. I have also tried putting my vim.vim file into ~/.vim/after/syntax/vim.vim As suggested here This is the approach that I would like to take. Seems clean and easily maintainable.

  • CallContext and ApplicationHost

    - by p2u
    I tried to create an ApplicationHost. But I had errors like SerializationException and FileNotFoundException. Then I found this blog entry, where it's seem to be a remoting problem. In my little application I use the CallContext, so I tried some approaches. When I empty the CallContext before I create the ApplicationHost, it works: Programm class: namespace ApplicationHostDemo { public class Program { public static void Main(string[] args) { Evil evil = new Evil(); CallContext.SetData(Evil.CALLCONTEXT, evil); CallContext.FreeNamedDataSlot(Evil.CALLCONTEXT); Console.WriteLine("Simple Host-Demo\r\n"); Host host = CreateHost(); CallContext.SetData(Evil.CALLCONTEXT, evil); host.ProcessRequest("Index.aspx"); Console.WriteLine("\r\n\r\nSimple Host-Demo end"); Console.ReadLine(); } public static Host CreateHost() { return (Host)ApplicationHost.CreateApplicationHost(typeof(Host), "/", Directory.GetCurrentDirectory()); } public class Host : MarshalByRefObject { public void ProcessRequest(string page) { SimpleWorkerRequest swr = new SimpleWorkerRequest(page, "", Console.Out); HttpRuntime.ProcessRequest(swr); } } } } Evil class: namespace ApplicationHostDemo { [Serializable] public class Evil : ILogicalThreadAffinative { public const string CALLCONTEXT = "evil"; public string Name { get; set; } } } Do you know or could you explain why it works?

    I have the following setup, and the empty view text doesn't show up... protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); getListView().setEmptyView(findViewById(R.id.empty)); getListView().setTextFilterEnabled(true); setListAdapter(null);// to have empty list } The layout file is:  <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/myScrollLayout" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <FrameLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1"> <ListView android:id="@android:id/list" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:drawSelectorOnTop="false" />  <ScrollView android:id="@android:id/empty" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TextView android:id="@+id/emptyText" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:text="@string/contact_empty_help" android:textSize="20sp" android:textColor="?android:attr/textColorSecondary" android:paddingLeft="10dip" android:paddingRight="10dip" android:paddingTop="10dip" android:lineSpacingMultiplier="0.92" /> </ScrollView> </FrameLayout> </LinearLayout> String is defined as: <string name="contact_empty_help">"You don't have any contacts to display.\n\nTo add contacts, you have to:\n \n
Go to Contacts application to create new contacts\n
\n
Import from VCF file, this is available in Contacts menu, the file most be on the root of the SD card\n
" </string> Since the list is empty, it should show me the text defined. I followed the example from the List8 http://developer.android.com/intl/de/resources/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/android/apis/view/List8.html http://developer.android.com/intl/de/resources/samples/ApiDemos/res/layout/list_8.xml

  • Why does gdb show two different returns?

    - by YuppieNetworking
    Hello all, Last week I was a debugging a code and a weird situation came up: gdb passes through two different return clauses. I made a simple example that illustrates the situation: #include <iostream> using namespace std; int test() { string a = "asd"; string b = "asd"; while (true) { if (a == b) { return 0; } } return -1; } int main() { int result = test(); cout << "result: " << result << endl; } When debugging the code I got: (gdb) b main Breakpoint 1 at 0x1d4c: file example.cpp, line 19. (gdb) r Starting program: /Users/yuppienet/temp/a.out Reading symbols for shared libraries +++. done Breakpoint 1, main () at example.cpp:19 19 int result = test(); (gdb) s test () at example.cpp:7 7 string a = "asd"; (gdb) n 8 string b = "asd"; (gdb) n 11 if (a == b) { (gdb) n 12 return 0; (gdb) n 15 return -1; (gdb) n 16 } (gdb) n main () at example.cpp:20 20 cout << "result: " << result << endl; (gdb) n result: 0 21 } (gdb) n 0x00001ab2 in start () I noted that even if gdb shows line 15, the return value is 0 (the finish command confirms this as well). So the question is: why does gdb show line 15: return -1, even if the function is not really returning this value? Thanks!

  • Drop Down list null value not working for selected text c#?

    - by Tamara JQ
    Hi guys, Basically I have a drop down list which is populated with text and values depending on a selected index of a radio button list. The code is as follows: protected void RBLGender_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { DDLTrous.Items.Clear(); DDLShoes.Items.Clear(); if (RBLGender.SelectedValue.Equals("Male")) { String[] MaleTrouserText = {"[N/A]", "28\"", "30\"", "32\"", "34\"", "36\"", "38\"", "40\"", "42\"", "44\"", "48\""}; String[] MaleTrouserValue = { null, "28\"", "30\"", "32\"", "34\"", "36\"", "38\"", "40\"", "42\"", "44\"", "48\"" }; String[] MaleShoeText = { "[N/A]", "38M", "39M", "40M", "41M", "42M", "43M", "44M", "45M", "46M", "47M" }; String[] MaleShoeValue = { null, "38M", "39M", "40M", "41M", "42M", "43M", "44M", "45M", "46M", "47M" }; for (int i = 0; i < MaleTrouserText.Length; i++) { ListItem MaleList = new ListItem(MaleTrouserText[i], MaleTrouserValue[i]); DDLTrous.Items.Add(MaleList); } for (int i = 0; i < MaleShoeText.Length; i++) { ListItem MaleShoeList = new ListItem(MaleShoeText[i], MaleShoeValue[i]); DDLShoes.Items.Add(MaleShoeList); } } else if (RBLGender.SelectedValue.Equals("Female"))` When the text '[N/A]' is selected I want the value NULL to be inserted into the database. At present when '[N/A]' is selected the value entered into the database is [N/A] does anyone know why? Thanks in advance.

  • Why does text from Assembly.GetManifestResourceStream() start with three junk characters?

    - by flipdoubt
    I have a SQL file added to my VS.NET 2008 project as an embedded resource. Whenever I use the following code to read the file's content, the string returned always starts with three junk characters and then the text I expect. I assume this has something to do with the Encoding.Default I am using, but that is just a guess. Why does this text keep showing up? Should I just trim off the first three characters or is there a more informed approach? public string GetUpdateRestoreSchemaScript() { var type = GetType(); var a = Assembly.GetAssembly(type); var script = "UpdateRestoreSchema.sql"; var resourceName = String.Concat(type.Namespace, ".", script); using(Stream stream = a.GetManifestResourceStream(resourceName)) { byte[] buffer = new byte[stream.Length]; stream.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length); // UPDATE: Should be Encoding.UTF8 return Encoding.Default.GetString(buffer); } } Update: I now know that my code works as expected if I simply change the last line to return a UTF-8 encoded string. It will always be true for this embedded file, but will it always be true? Is there a way to test any buffer to determine its encoding?

Why can't it be directly linked to "url+html"?

  • Android layout with sqare buttons

    - by Mannaz
    I want to make a layout similar to this one: Four square buttons on the screen - each of those using half of the screen with/screen height (whichever is smaler). I already tried to achieve this by using a LinearLayoutbut the buttons are ending up using the correct width, but still having the height of the background (not square any more). <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> </LinearLayout> <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> It's looking like this: How can i acchieve the Layout to look like the image above?
