I was happy just using ssh but then a wordpress plugin needs ftp access...I just need ftp access for one site www.sitebuilt.net which is in /home/sitebuil. • BING Search using ASP.NET and jQuery Ajax

  The BING API provides extremely simple way to make search queries using BING. It provides nice way to get the search results as XML or JSON. In this blog post I will show one simple example on how to query BING and get the results as JSON in an ASP.NET website with help of jQuery’s getJSON ajax method. Basically we submit an HTTP GET request with the AppID which you can get in the BING Developer Center. To create new AppID, click here. Once you fill the form, submit it and you will get your AppID. Now, lets make this work in several steps. 1. Open VS.NET or Visual Web Developer.NET, create new sample project (or use existing one) and create new ASPX Web Form with name of your choice. 2. Add the following ASPX in your page body <body>     <form id="form1" runat="server">     <asp:TextBox ID="txtSearch" runat="server" /> <asp:Button ID="btnSearch" runat="server" Text="BING Search" />     <div id="result">          </div>     </form> </body> We have text box for search, button for firing the search event and div where we will place the results. 3. We get the keywords from the Text Box with id txtSearch and then we use encodeURIComponent. The encodeURIComponent is used to encode the special characters such as: , / ? : @ & = + $ #, which might be part of the search query string. Then we construct the URL and call it using HTTP GET. The callback function returns the data, where we first clear the html inside div with id result and after that we render the data.SearchResponse.Web.Results array of objects using template with id bingSearchTemplate and append the result into div with id result. 9. • Configuring vsftpd with nginx on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

  I've attempted to configure a nginx / vsftpd server on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (via amazon ec2) a couple times now, but I seem to keep making a mistake along the way. Currently, when I try to connect to my ftp server it takes a minute or so before it connects. Then when I issue a command, they all timeout with an operation failed error. Aside from these issues, I'm not completely confident with the file ownership & permissions or the configuration / settings. So, I think it's best if I just re-install and re-configure correctly. I believe the nginx installation comes with a default user of www-data:www-data and web root directory ownership by root:root. Vsftpd, however, needs to have a user created with the same group as the nginx user (www-data), and the same home directory as the nginx server (/usr/share/nginx/www), with g+w chmod permissions granted on that directory. The vsftpd.conf file should disable anonymous logins and enable local logins, file writing, and chroot local users. In my previous config, I had /bin/false set for the ftp user's shell and pam_shells.so disabled. I also had local_umask set to 0027. So, starting with a fresh ec2 instance, I've got: sudo apt-get install vsftpd sudo apt-get install nginx For the firewall I issued the command (not sure if necessary): sudo ufw allow ftp Which commands / config is recommended from here? I only need 1 ftp user that I can use to login with my ftp client to modify the single nginx web domain, which will need php & sql for WordPress.

• nginx+mysql5 loadtesting configuration strangeness

• Windows 7 deployment thru WDS

  Hello, I am deploying new systems on my network and I built my reference computer by installing the OS the manufacturers (Dell and a custom built system from some local business) gave with all drivers, installed all the desired applications. As for the settings part, I'm doing most of it thru GPOs. I want to image my reference computer and deploy it with WDS. i found several links on how to sysprep, but they're all doing it with some differences without explaining them. My questions : How do I manage (into sysprep) the domain join/computer naming part since (from what I understand) WDS manages that? How do I know/determine what I need to setup into my sysprep.xml? Can you sysprep a first time, try and if it fails, do some modifications and try again? I am thinking of doing a basis sysprep, checking what info can be automated and correct that in the answer file. What do I miss if skipping the "audit" mode? I don't plan on re-doing the reference computer... I read that when sysprepping, it resets settings from the reference computer like the computer name, activation/key and such... what setting is sysprep resetting by default that I should be aware of? I must admit I am quite lost about Win7, sysprep, RIS, MDI toolkit, WDS.. I understand the way of doing with XP, but it changed so much with Windows 7!   Just transferred my site from a shared hosting to Linode's VPS, and I'm also completely new to nginx, so please don't be harsh if I missed something evident ^^ I've got my WordPress site running pretty well on nginx & MaxCDN, but my @font-face fonts (served from cdn.domain.com) stopped working in IE9 and FF (@font-face failed cross-origin request. Resource access is restricted.) • Googlebot repeatedly looks for files that aren't on my server

  I'm hosting a site for a volunteer organization. I've moved the site to WordPress, but it wasn't always that way. I suspect at one point it was hacked badly. My Apache error log file has grown to 122 kB in just the past 18 hours. The large majority of the errors logged are of this form -- it's repeated hundreds of times today alone in my log files: [Mon Nov 12 18:29:27 2012] [error] [client xx.xxx.xx.xxx] File does not exist: /home/*******/public_html/*******.org/calendar.php [Mon Nov 12 18:29:27 2012] [error] [client xx.xxx.xx.xxx] File does not exist: /home/*******/public_html/*******.org/404.shtml (I verified that xx.xxx.xx.xxx was a Google server.) I suspect there was a security hole somewhere before, likely in calendar.php, that was exploited. The files don't exist anymore, but there may be many backlinks that exist that reference here, hence why googlebot is so interested in crawling them. How do I fix this gracefully? I still would like Google to index the site. I just want to tell it somehow not to look for these files anymore.

• MySQL -- enable connection to remote server via local /tmp/mysql.sock

  Hey all, I run a shared hosting provider and we're looking to move to a High Availability (replicated across multiple datacenters) setup for our hosting. We have created a replicated MySQL setup with failover that works wonderfully, and we'd like to move all of our clients' databases to it. The only trouble is that we have many many customers, all of whom have configured their Wordpress, Drupal, etc. installations to connect to MySQL via a local socket, not to the address of the remove server. I would hate to have to go through manually and change the connection statement in all of our clients' sites. What I'd ideally love to see is a program that listens on /tmp/mysql.sock and forwards connections there to the remote server I specify. I've seen SQL Relay, but it seems to require that I hardcode all of the database names and usernames and passwords into its configuration file. This is not going to work for me because our users add new databases dynamically all of the time, and I'd rather not have to write code to updated SQLRelay's config file every time. Does anyone have an idea on how to do this? Alternatively, I'd accept idea on how to handle this at the PHP level. (i.e. redirect any attempted calls to mysql_connect() to use that hostname rather than localhost) Thanks, Kevin

Use-Case: When I visit foo.com, I should see the webapp, which is hosted on jetty, port 8090. If I put foo.com/blog, I should see the wordpress blog, which is hosted on apache. (I read howtos on the web, and installed it using AMP.) Below are my various configuration files: /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/proxy.conf: ProxyPass / http://foo.com:8090/ << this is the jetty server ProxyPass /blog http://foo.com/blog ProxyRequests On ProxyVia On <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPreserveHost On ProxyStatus On /etc/apache2/httpd.conf: LoadModule proxy_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_proxy.so LoadModule proxy_balancer_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_proxy_balancer.so LoadModule proxy_http_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_proxy_http.so LoadModule proxy_ajp_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_proxy_ajp.so I have not created any other files, in sites-available or sites-enabled. Current situation: If I goto foo.com, I see the webapp. If I goto foo.com/blog, I see a HTTP ERROR 404 Problem accessing /errors/404.html. Reason: NOT_FOUND powered by jetty:// If I comment out the first ProxyPass line, then on foo.com, I only see the homepage, without CSS applied, ie, only text.. .. and going to foo.com/blog gives me a this error: The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request GET /blog. Reason: Error reading from remote server I also cannot access /phpmyadmin, giving the same 404 NOT_FOUND error as above. I am running Debian squeeze on an Amazon EC2 Instance. Question: Where am I going wrong? What changes should I make in the proxy.conf (or another conf files) to be able to visit the blog?

• How can I tell which page is creating a high-CPU-load httpd process?

  I have a LAMP server (CentOS-based MediaTemple (DV) Extreme with 2GB RAM) running a customized Wordpress+bbPress combination . At about 30k pageviews per day the server is starting to groan. It stumbled earlier today for about 5 minutes when there was an influx of traffic. Even under normal conditions I can see that the virtual server is sometimes at 90%+ CPU load. Using Top I can often see 5-7 httpd processes that are each using 15-30% (and sometimes even 50%) CPU. Before we do a big optimization pass (our use of MySQL is probably the culprit) I would love to find the pages that are the main offenders and deal with them first. Is there a way that I can find out which specific requests were responsible for the most CPU-hungry httpd processes? I have found a lot of info on optimization in general, but nothing on this specific question. Secondly, I know there are a million variables, but if you have any insight on whether we should be at the boundaries of performance with a single dedicated virtual server with a site of this size, then I would love to hear your opinion. Should we be thinking about moving to a more powerful server, or should we be focused on optimization on the current server?

  I have an issue with sendmail on my server (ubuntu 12.10) with php, mysql,and wordpress installed. Basically I want to create a contact form in my blog to receive emails from visitors directly into my gmail account but it doest work! I created a php file called testmail.php to recall it from the browser: <?php $to = '[email protected]'; $subbject = 'TEST MAIL'; $msg = 'test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test'; $isMailed = mail($to, $subbject, $msg, 'From:me <[email protected]>'); if($isMailed) echo 'mail has been send to: ' . $to; else echo 'mail has NOT been send..'; ?> But I dont receive anything! The /var/log/mail.log says: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(root): opendaemonsocket: daemon MTA-v4: cannot bind: Address already in use What do i do wrong? Where do I need to check? What info do you need more? • Change the default Icon on your jQuery UI Accordion

  I've got this question in one of my previous blogs posted here (the same blog is posted on codeasp.net too), dealing with jQuery UI Accordion and I thought it's nice to recap this in a blog post so that I will have it documented for further reference. In the previous blog, I'm creating tabs content navigation using jQuery UI Accordion. So, it's quite simple code and all I do there is calling accordion() function. <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">     $(function() {         $("#products").accordion();     }); </script> The default image icons for each item is the arrow. The accordion uses the right arrow and down arrow images. So, what we should do in order to change them? JQuery UI Accordion contains option with name icons that has header and headerSelected properties. We can override them with either the existing classes from jQuery UI themes or with our own. 1. Using existing jQuery UI Theme classes - Open the follownig link: http://jqueryui.com/themeroller/#icons You will see the icons available in the jQuery UI theme. Mouse over on each icon and you will see the class name for each icon. As you can see, each icon has class name constructed in the following way: ui-icon-<name> All icons in one image - In our example, I will use ui-icon-circle-plus  and ui-icon-circle-minus (plus and minus icons). - Lets set the icons <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">     $(function() {         //initialize accordion                 $("#products").accordion();         //set accordion header options         $("#products").accordion("option", "icons",         { 'header': 'ui-icon-circle-plus', 'headerSelected': 'ui-icon-circle-minus' });     }); </script> From the code above, you can see that I first intialize the accordion plugin, and after I override the default icons with the ui-icon-circle-plyus for header and ui-icon-circle-minus for headerSelected. It's like that in order to give highest importancy to our image so that the default jQuery UI theme icon images will have less importancy and won't be used. • Why is this APC installation failing so badly?

  I have multiple instances of APC running on my server with similar configurations (albeit with different cache sizes. However, one of the instances is performing extremely poorly, and I have no idea why (100% cache fragmentation, high miss rate). All other instances (~4) on the server are running perfectly fine with almost 100% hit rates and 0% fragmentation; for example this instance is holding a website built using the Symfony framework. Any help would be much appreciated; I haven't had much experience with APC and was hoping for it to be an out-of-the-box speed boost ;).
