• Spring vs Hibernate

  Just trying to get my head round Spring and figuring out how I wire up an Oracle connection in xml config file, and now find out I need yet another framework! - Hibernate, this is soooo frustrating as it feels like I'm getting deeper and deeper into more and more frameworks without actually getting what I need done! I looked at Hibernate and it seems to do similar things to Spring, bearing in mind I just want to do some SQL inserts in Oracle. I am reluctant and do not have time to learn 2 frameworks - could I get away with just adopting Hibernate for the simple things I need to do?

  I have 3 sites : media.lmenaria.com - Hosting Images webservice.lmenaria.com - Sending images url from database. www.lmenaria.com - Host Silverlight application and display images. When I run page "http://www.lmenaria.com/silverlight.aspx". I am getting below exception. So what shpould I do ?   What entries in a web.config could allow certain files to become publicly accessible after a certain date and time? Specifically, we have these files starting with AB_.jpg where the _ could be anything. We put them in a folder on April 27th for example, but they shouldn't be accessible until April 30th at 11:59:59 PM. I think the web.config in part works like Unix's FTP .htaccess file to define file security. • Deploying my flex application

  Hi, I am doing some trial testing awith Amazon ec2 boxes, deploying flex apps running on top of restlet powered webservices. I have this problem - Everytime i deploy the app to the cloud, I'm having to hardcode the IP address of the server into the ActionScript/MXML files (http://72.93.48.39:8080/xxx/abc/) and for certain reasons, i am forced to choose a different IP everytime. and i think its really not the right way to deploy the application. I would like to know what other people do in such scenarios? On thinking about it, i thought i could make it pickup values from the HTMLVars of the HTML wrapper. but that again has to be edited everytime again and again. will it be possible to be able to supply these values : server's ip address, server's port number(in case its not 8080 on some machine) at build time? if so can anyone give me a barbones sample build.xml just as an example?

  I'm getting some data from the web service and saving it in the core data. This workflow looks like this: get xml feed go over every item in that feed, create a new ManagedObject for every feed item download some big binary data for every item and save it into ManagedObject call [managedObjectContext save:] Now, the problem is of course the performance - everything runs on the main thread. I'd like to re-factor as much as possible to another thread, but I'm not sure where I should start. Is it OK to put everything (1-4) to the separate thread?

Below is the method call Directory.GetFiles(selectedFolder, "*.xml", SearchOption.AllDirectories); I want to notify this to users. Is there a way to show them that file loading is in progress? I want a simplest way. I suppose Splash screen is too costly for my app.

• What's the best way to parse RSS/Atom feeds for an iPhone application?

  So I understand that there are a few options available as far as parsing straight XML goes: NSXMLParser, TouchXML from TouchCode, etc. That's all fine, and seems to work fine for me. The real problem here is that there are dozens of small variations in RSS feeds (and Atom feeds too), so supporting all possible permutations of feeds available out on the Internet gets very difficult to manage. I searched around for a library that would handle all of these low-level details for me, but came out without anything. Since one could link to an external C/C++ library in Objective-C, I was wondering if there is a library out there that would be best suited for this task? Someone must have already created something like this, it's just difficult to find the "right" option from the thousands of results in Google. Anyway, what's the best way to parse RSS/Atom feeds in an iPhone application?

  In regard to this question I am curious how one can do post-request REST processing a la (crude): def postProcessor[T](content: T) = { request match { case Accepts.Json() => asJson(content) case Accepts.Xml() => asXml(content) case _ => content } } overriding onRouteRequest in Global config does not appear to provide access to body of the response, so it would seem that Action composition is the way to go to intercept the response and do post-processing task(s). Question: is this a good idea, or is it better to do content-type casting directly within a controller (or other class) method where the type to cast is known? Currently I'm doing this kind of thing everywhere: toJson( i18n("account not found") ) toJson( Map('orderNum-> orderNum) ) while I'd like the toJson/toXml conversion to happen based on accepts header post-request.

  I've literally looked everywhere on the net and found very little clarification on how to do this. Pretty much, I have 8 sound files laid out in an array.xml file and I need to play a randomly chosen file ONCE per or onClick or onShake. First off, what technique should I use to achieve this? ARRAY-RANDOM- STRING-PLAY? RANDOM INT-PLAY? RANDOM INT-STRING-PLAY?   I'm having trouble finding a regular expression that matches the following String. Korben;http://feeds.feedburner.com/KorbensBlog-UpgradeYourMind?format=xml;1 One problem is escaping the question mark. Java's pattern matcher doesn't seem to accept \? as a valid escape sequence but it also fails to work with the tester at myregexp.com. Here's what I have so far: ([a-zA-Z0-9])+;http://([a-zA-Z0-9./-]+);[0-9]+ Any suggestions? Edit: The original intent was to match all URLs that could be found after the first semi colon.

  When i upload a excel file, i have used COM() to open and automate converting it to xml. It works fine, But when i run it, it always shows the message from Microsoft Excel: A file named ''' already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it? I can choose between Yes No and Cancel. normally i would choose Yes. But i dont want users to click on Yes each time. Can i disable this? Please inform me if any relevant codes need to be posted. • Posting data to a HttpHandler greater then ~29MB gives a 404 error

  I am testing a HttpHandler that accepts XML. It works fine when a small amount of data is posted but if I post data larger then approx 29mb, I get a asp.net 404 Error. I am posting to the handler from another handler in the same project and I have tried 2 methods - 1. HttpWebRequest with "POST" 2. WebClient with UploadFile() and UploadData() I get the same 404 error when the posted data is above 29mb. I also tried putting a breakpoint right in the beginning of the receiving handler and debugging. It is never hit. Appears like the handler was never called. Works ok for smaller sized data. What am I doing Wrong? (Thanks in advance for helping)

The reason is that I want my usual maven commands such as mvn compile, etc, to work out of the box. (Without demanding from the developers a to add it to some repository by themselves). I want the jar to be in a 3rdparty lib in source control, and link to it by relative path from the pom.xml file. Can this be done? How?

  In a Windows Phone 7 application, I would like to query a big XML file (list of cities) stored using Isolated Storage. If I do that this way, will the file be loaded to memory ( 5 mo) ? If so, what other solution do I have? Edit: More details. I want to use AutoCompleteBox (http://www.jeff.wilcox.name/2008/10/introducing-autocompletebox/), but instead of using a web service (this is fixed data, no need to be online), I want to query a file/database/isolated storage... I have a fixed list of cities. I said in the comments it's 40k, but it finally seems closer to 1k rows.

• Android MapView High Res tiles?

  I have created a simple map app that shows the local garage sales in my town. It was simple enough to create and I parse out the Google Maps (html) xml doc that the local paper uses on their google maps mashup on their website. I have noticed that the Map Tiles used in the MapView class are not as high-res as the tiles used in the real Android Google Maps app (I have a Droid). I have searched the docs and google, but I cannot find any info on this. Actually, I can't even find anyone mentioning this, which surprises me and makes me think I am missing something simple. Is this a case of Google making the APIs available, but at a lower quality, or am I missing some setting that enables higher quality map tiles?

• Can you open an SPSite object while being within a different site collection?

  I'm working on creating a common navigation experience across two site collections in MOSS 2007. I've looked around for various solutions and haven't found anything that fits. Our navigation is dynamic and driven by a number of factors, including audience targeting. Most of what I've found relates to having static XML and that just won't work for our requirements. What I'm down to at the moment is just getting a navigation item from site collection A while in the context of site collection B. Are there reasons I shouldn't be able to just open a navigation item from site collection A and gets its audience? Certainly there could be permissions problems on my end, or code related issues, or things that are in my control. What I'm wondering is if there's something inherent to SharePoint that would not allow this. Something I don't have control over which would force me to travel a different path.

  Ok so this might be a dumb question, but I can't seem to figure it out. I thought I'd try out LINQ against a DataTable. I got my query working and now I'm trying to implement some simple paging. Error 1 'System.Data.OrderedEnumerableRowCollection' does not contain a definition for 'Skip' and no extension method 'Skip' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Data.OrderedEnumerableRowCollection' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) • How to check value of stored procedure output parameter

  I have a stored procedure that: A. inserts some rows into a "table variable" based on some joins B. selects all values from column x from that table into a string with comma separated values C. selects all from the "table variable" If I execute the procedure like this: EXEC CatalogGetFilmDetails2 2,111111; a table is returned as instructed per step C above. How can I execute it so that also the output parameter value is displayed? (see point B above). I need to check if it's calculated properly. And since the second parameter is of output type, meaning it's calculated inside the procedure, why is it mandatory to specify a value for it when executing the procedure? I normally use a random value for it, it anyway doesn't matter/impact the result. On the other hand if I try to execute it without the output parameter, it returns an error) Thank you very much! Using an inline element in a UiBinder template. Modern GWT applications typically use a combination of CssResource and UiBinder. So my question is, when should I use a css file and create a CssResource for it, and when should I define styles directly in the ui.xml file using <ui:style>? Are there any performance implication (i.e. resource size to download on the client) with either of these ways?

I have found many websites but a lot seem to be very out dated, and I'm not sure what developments have taken place with JavaScript over the years so do not know how old is too old. If anybody could suggest some great websites, or maybe specific articles you think would be useful, that would be highly appreciated. I am a beginner programmer currently using JavaScript with XML and of course HTML & CSS, and I'm currently trying to get further into and learn more about web development.

  I have recently been working with a COM+ component that processes an input XML file, and makes a number of database updates based on the supplied data. Running SQL Profiler with EventClass Exception, and User Error Message selected, I see: Exception Error: 102, Severity: 15, State: 1 User Error Message Incorrect syntax near '3'. However I really want to see the full SQL that is being supplied by the COM+ component. Is there anyway for me using Profiler, or other, for me to intercept the SQL statement that was sent to the SQL Server? This machine is using SQL Server 2005, and the COM+ object is written in Delphi.
