• Checksum Transformation

  The Checksum Transformation computes a hash value, the checksum, across one or more columns, returning the result in the Checksum output column. The transformation provides functionality similar to the T-SQL CHECKSUM function, but is encapsulated within SQL Server Integration Services, for use within the pipeline without code or a SQL Server connection. As featured in The Microsoft Data Warehouse Toolkit by Joy Mundy and Warren Thornthwaite from the Kimbal Group. Have a look at the book samples especially Sample package for custom SCD handling. All input columns are passed through the transformation unaltered, those selected are used to generate the checksum which is passed out through a single output column, Checksum. This does not restrict the number of columns available downstream from the transformation, as columns will always flow through a transformation. The Checksum output column is in addition to all existing columns within the pipeline buffer. The Checksum Transformation uses an algorithm based on the .Net framework GetHashCode method, it is not consistent with the T-SQL CHECKSUM() or BINARY_CHECKSUM() functions. The transformation does not support the following Integration Services data types, DT_NTEXT, DT_IMAGE and DT_BYTES. ChecksumAlgorithm Property There ChecksumAlgorithm property is defined with an enumeration. It was first added in v1.3.0, when the FrameworkChecksum was added. All previous algorithms are still supported for backward compatibility as ChecksumAlgorithm.Original (0). Original - Orginal checksum function, with known issues around column separators and null columns. This was deprecated in the first SQL Server 2005 RTM release. FrameworkChecksum - The hash function is based on the .NET Framework GetHash method for object types. This is based on the .NET Object.GetHashCode() method, which unfortunately differs between x86 and x64 systems. For that reason we now default to the CRC32 option. CRC32 - Using a standard 32-bit cyclic redundancy check (CRC), this provides a more open implementation. The component is provided as an MSI file, however to complete the installation, you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox by hand. This process has been described in detail in the related FAQ entry for How do I install a task or transform component?, just select Checksum from the SSIS Data Flow Items list in the Choose Toolbox Items window.   I've been reading: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuCloudInfrastructure It's fascinating stuff, but documentation seems a bit sparse. Where I work, we have this aging, clunky VMWare ESXi setup for all our internal servers. I'd really like to read up on possible migration or just information on Orchestra, integration with Juju, etc that isn't a bunch of loosely connected blog posts. :p This is concerning 11.10 and, presumably, 12.04. To make this less vague, specifically documentation on: Orchestra - features, comparisons, videos, etc Integrating Juju with Orchestra - I'm familiar with using Juju for deploying on AWS, but that wiki page glances over connecting it to orchestra Building a private cloud - Advantages, using/deploying Openstack, etc Working with internal networks - Configuring DMZs, setting rules, etc Any recommended books would be appreciated too. I didn't intend for this to be a 'do all my homework for me! LMGTFY' post, I'm just hungry for information and haven't found a good repository of knowledge for much of this.

• ADF Mobile Application in the Apple AppStore

  Hi, everyone: I would like to announce that there is now an iPhone App in the Apple AppStore that's built using Oracle ADF Mobile.  This app is the Hudson Mobile Monitor application for the iPhone, which allows you to monitor build status for the Hudson Continuous Integration server.  By default it points to the production instance of the Hudson CI server hosted at Oracle.  One of the key goals for ADF Mobile in general is to ensure an application built using ADF Mobile is compliant with Apple iOS SDK terms.  We designed the framework to ensure applications can go through the approval process - of course there are still things that can be done which would cause issues during the approval process, and we will be publishing more best practices in the coming articles. • Is there a better approach in migrating SIT SVN to UAT SVN?

  In web development, given a same piece of source code, and being deploy to SIT (system integration testing) SVN/WAS and UAT (user acceptance testing) SVN/WAS. Please take note that I am using Jenkins to build everything. I have already ensured the transition from SIT SVN to UAT SVN are sync by doing manual diff on the 2 directory. Usually I will ensure the SIT WAS is working fine then only deploy to UAT WAS. But now there is a problem show up in UAT WAS and it is working fine in SIT WAS. I am suspecting there is a migration fault happened between SIT SVN to UAT SVN. In such a given scenario, is there a better approach to handle this problem?

• Allow sudo on specific file from active directory group

  I have an Ubuntu Server 12.04 box that has active directory integration running on it. I want to allow a certain active directory group access to execute a script as sudo. I want to do something like this: %programmers ALL=NOPASSWD: /usr/local/bin/createSambaShare.php When I log in with my active directory user and issue groups I do not see the group programmers, but I am a part of the programmers group within active directory. I've set up the group under the Unix attributes tab and given it an id of 1000 and added my user to it. My first thought was that I needed to add the group to the Ubuntu box. When I tried to do that, it told me that the programmers group already existed. What am I missing here?

• Isolated Unit Tests and Fine Grained Failures

  One of the reasons often given to write unit tests which mock out all dependencies and are thus completely isolated is to ensure that when a bug exists, only the unit tests for that bug will fail. (Obviously, an integration tests may fail as well). That way you can readily determine where the bug is. But I don't understand why this is a useful property. If my code were undergoing spontaneous failures, I could see why its useful to readily identify the failure point. But if I have a failing test its either because I just wrote the test or because I just modified the code under test. In either case, I already know which unit contains a bug. What is the useful in ensuring that a test only fails due to bugs in the unit under test? I don't see how it gives me any more precision in identifying the bug than I already had.

  My supervisor is allowing my team to dip our toes in the water of working from home. Considering a recent aquisition of another company is requiring some employees to love this new idea which will hack up to an hour off their commute into work every morning, I really want this to succeed. In order to make it a success, we need good tools to make our lives a lot easier. We currently are set up with OpenVPN, and Team Foundation Server 2010 with SharePoint 2010, and use Live Messenger (for SharePoint integration and easier remote desktop) for IM. These are just what we use (and they are currently working well) , but you can suggest other products. So, what are some great tools that will helps us collaborate, communicate, and generally work together when we're hours apart?

  I'm new to Stripes. I worked on MVC frameworks like Struts 1.x and 2.x. When I started learning, its features are awesome and very lightweight; it has in-depth validations and offers easy integration with other frameworks too. There are no configurations and everything is simplified with annotations. I don't understand why Stripes is not popular compared with other Java web frameworks like Struts or JSF? I didn't find any drawbacks in Stripes. Any ideas why?

• How to retrieve old facebook/XMPP messages as well as new with kopete?

  I have been considering using Kopete to use Facebook chat instead of logging on to Facebook with a web browser. That way, I can integrate messages with my KDE desktop better. The problem is, when I open Kopete, I am unable to see messages that I recieved in Facebook while Kopete was not opened. I can only see messages that I sent or received when Kopete was open. The same thing happens in Outlook.com (which is a website that connects to Facebook), Pidgin software, and other instant messaging tools. So my question is, how can I receive these messages with a desktop chat application in KDE, such as Kopete? Facebook has made their API publicly available to developers, and KDE has its own Facebook integration plugin. So it would seem achievable.

• What's a good tool for Scrum Project Management in game development? [closed]

  I'm looking for an efficient, easy-to-learn tool for Scrum project management not for proffesional use but to use it in my thesis concerning the use of Scrum in game development. Basically I want to visualize a production process of a hypothetical game. Some fragments of the production process should be really detailed to make my point, so basically user stories, tasks, burndown charts etc. are a must. I'm using Scrum, Kanban and some Lean practices for eliminating waste. I also want to use Extreme Programming practices in this production process including TDD and Continuous Integration. I have zero experience in proffesional project management so I need something that's fairly simple to use for a newb like me. Anyone can recommend a tool like that? For now I was thinking about TargetProcess and ScrumWorks. Thanks.
