• Error connecting to the application.

  Hi guys, let me explain you the current scenario. We have a asp.net application on framework 2 running on intranet(Windows 2003 Server and Sql Server 2000). Now we have a xp machine where we installed and configured IIS with a virtual directory pointing on the local Xp machine and this machine is connected to our intranet. We have copied the same application files of the server to this XP machine. But the thing is the connection string/database of the application is pointing towards the intranet server. The problem is when we try to run the application on the XP machine we get this error : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Is this query related or concerned with this site or stackoverflow ?

  consider a disk with a sector size of 512 bytes, 2000 tracks/surface, 50 sectors/track, 5 doubled sided platters, average seek time is 10 msec. Assume a block size of 1024-byte is selected. Assume a file that contains 100,000 records of 100-byte each is to be stored on the disk, and NONE of the reocd can be spanned 2 blocks. How many blocks are needed to store the entire file?? If the file is arranged sequentially on disk, how many surfaces are required?? Now, i have calculated that 10,000 blocks are needed to store 100,000 records. But i am not sure how to find out the answer of the surfaces required. I only calculated the capacity of track is 25KB and capacity of surface is 50,000 KB But I don't know how to calculate the number of surfaces... Could anyone help me how to get the answer? • Switching to Chrome from IE

  Hi, I work in IT at a school and we recently updated our database software, however the web access that the teachers use to do registration does not work too well with Internet Explorer 7 and we're thinking about switching to chrome (mostly due to me hating IE in general) but the problem we have is that users are unable to migrate their bookmarks over from IE due to account restrictions, is there any way to get this working? A bit of info about the system if it could be helpful; Almost all the client PCs are running Win XP SP2. My colleagues machines are running Windows 7, I use OS X Snow Leopard and most of out servers are running windows server 2003 (with the exception of 2 one on 2000 server and another on 2008 R2). The Active Directory Controller is running Windows Server 2003

  My site receives a lot of traffic for 2 hours during the day (2000 hits per minute). The rest of the day receives less traffic(500e hits per minute). I have been experimenting with the MaxClients and MaxSpareServers values but I still get some downtime during peek hours. How can I calculate the best values for my configuration based on the amount of ram that I have ?   I've installed Corsair Vengeance CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10, 2x8GB, DDR3-1600, PC3-12800, CL10, DIMM and my BIOS picks up that there is 16GB, Windows says there is 16GB, CPU-z says there is 16GB. But it only says I can use 4.99GB out of 16GB. Motherboard is P55-GD65 (MS-7583) Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 1066/1333/1600*/2000*/2133* (OC) DRAM, 16GB Max Windows (Above screenshot specifies that I am on a System type: 64-bit OS) CPU-z Microsoft says that the physical memory limit on a 64 bit win7 professional operating system is 192GB. • Excel 2010 -Excel cannot complete this task with available resources

  Getting this error when trying to sort a document (Excel cannot complete this task with available resources). Document isn't particularly large, about 4,000 lines. Can't seem to figure out why this would start on this. I can sort this same file fine on everything back to Excel 2000 on older crappy computers. Computer is running Win 7 x64, 16 Gb RAM, and another 16 Gb of virtual. There's no possible way that all of the memory is actually getting exhausted when I can perform this on an older XP machine with 512 Mb of RAM, unless 2010's memory usage is inconceivably poorly designed. I found a few posts on forums stating that there might be a security update related bug. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Domain account credentials fails to start scheduled tasks

  I have 2 Windows 2000 servers in a domain 'DC', which run numerous windows scheduled tasks under the 'DC\Task-User' account. These tasks are and have been running successfully in the past couple of years without any account/password modifications. Yesterday, the tasks went to 'Could not start' status. Myself having an admin account, was able to run these tasks with my credentials. Today, I ran the tasks again under the DC\Task-User account and they seem to be running fine without any issues. This has happened in the past too. I'm not into networking so don't know much about the underlying problem. Has this something to do with a Domain controller account authentication? Any pointers will be great!

• Is IPv6 multicast routable over the Internet?

  As I understand it, public IPv6 addresses allocated by the IANA will have the prefix 2000::/3. These ip addresses will be routable through the Internet. IPv6 multicast addresses on the other side are prefixed FF00::/8. So my understanding is that the ipv6 multicast addresses won't be routable through the internet. I am right? If so, is there any way to do one-to-many ip routing over the Internet in IPv6? Thanks!

The shortest length line discovered where this occurs is 317 chars while the longest line is way over 2000 chars. • < key triggers sticky alt on Windows 7

  When using a code editor like Notepad++ or Eclipse I'm experiencing a rather annoying problem: each time I type the < key the keyboard latches into some unexpected mode whereby the subsequent keypress behaves as if the alt key were being held down. The only way to return to normal mode is to hit the escape key twice immediately after I type a < character. The keyboard is a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 and the OS is Windows 7. Does anyone have any idea what I should do to stop this behaviour? Thanks

• Cant Add Columns to a AD Task pad except for the top level of the domain

  We are working on Active Directory taskpads application for user management in our organization and facing stange issue. When we create a taskpad, and when we are at top level of the domain, i can click view - Add/Remove Columns and add "Pre Windows Name" (and lots of other properties) to the taskpad as columns, but when i just go 1 level down , i can only see "Operating System" and "Service Pack" ; why is it happening , isnt "Domain Admins" supposed to god access to all the things in AD domain , atleast of objects they own? It is important to have "Pre Windows 2000" Name as a column begause with out that our "Shell Command" task wont show up in taskpads, since its bound to parameter "Col<9" (which is pre qindows name). Please do let me know if any additions questions to clarify my problem.

• Was Windows 95 an Operating System?

  This question maybe a bit historical, but we didn't have Superuser at the time. Around 2000 when I was starting my Computer science degree, a subject was Operating systems. The teacher asked us to list a few OS. I said Windows 95. I was immediately shot down. Windows 95 wasn't on OS, as it used DOS to boot up. The actual OS was DOS, Win 95 was just a graphical wrapper around it. I pointed that all trade magazines called Win95 an OS, but was told that they were run by laymen, and as a professional, I should know better. DOS was the only OS from Microsoft, at least till Win2K came out later that year. So 12 years on, I'm still not sure. Could Win 95 be considered an OS?

  Hello, I have a pretty big problem. My son just moved back to work for me in my firm. We set his computer up and installed Outlook03 connected to an Exchange 2000 server. All emails work, (internal/external) but I cannot for the life of me get his outlook to see the public shared calendar. Please let me know if you need any more info. OS is XP SP3, Office03 is SP3.   We have a Windows 2008 R2 server which is replacing an old Windows Storage Server. The datastore is attached via iSCSI so I do not need to transfer any data. The iSCSI connection is setup on the new machine, and now I'm wondering: How should I transfer the shares and permissions? • Central Storage for windows user accounts homedirs .. hardware/software needed?

  We have ~120+ users in our network, and are endeavoring to centralize logon authentication and home directory storage server-side. Most of the users are Windows 2000/XP machines, and a few running Mac OS X. Ideally the solution will be open-source-- can this all be managed from a Linux server running LDAP and Samba? Or would a hacked-NAS Box with a FreeNAS or similar suffice? Or is Micro$oft's Active Directory really the preference here. Is it viable to store PST files on this server for users to read from and write to? They are very large ~1.5gb. We have no mail server (or money) capable of Exchange or IMAP, only an old POP3. What kind of hardware horsepower and network architecture should we have for this kind of thing?

  I have a macro that copies data from one cell to another and uses a VLOOKUP formula, among other things. My spreadsheet contains nearly 2000 rows. When I run it in Excel 2003, Excel starts to slow down as the macro processes rows 500 and above. It gets even worse when it reaches the 1000th row. It takes more than 5 hours to complete.   Hi, I have Virtual PC 2007 installed on my Windows 7 machine. Before anyone asks, I have installed VPC 2007 because my machine does not support the new Virtual PC for Windows 7. Everythings working fine, except for the drag and drop file feature. On my old Windows XP machine the drag and drop feature works fine, but on Windows 7, nothing happens. I just get the "no drop" cursor. I HAVE installed Virtual Machine Additions and have run Virtual PC under XP Compatability, but still nothing. The Virtual Machines I have tried draging and dropping files onto on are: Windows 2000 Windows XP Windows 98 and as I said they all have Virtual Machine Additions on them. Whats going on? How can I get the drag and drop feature working? I did see this question, but it still doesn't answer my question.

  Exactly what it says on the Tin. I have a dual-socket, socket-F motherboard in which I am looking to put two high-end quad-core Opterons, but the 2000 series are nearly double the price of the 8000 series on eBay. Can I just drop in a pair of 8000 series processors and be done with it, or are there processor-critical motherboard features that would be present on a quad(+)-socket motherboard that don’t exist on a dual-socket motherboard? • SQL Server 2005 transactional replication break before a configured number of retries

  We have a SQL Server 2000 Standard database with some tables being replicated (continuous transactional replication) to dozens of SQL Server 2005 Express and MSDE computers. The step 2 of the replication agent job (Run agent) is configured by default to retry every 1 minute for 10 times if some problem ocurr. Because the client machines get shut down at night (they are POS machines), we changed the number of retries to 5760 (4 days), so replication would not be broken at night and would not need to be restarted manually. But the problem is that every other day we have at least one machine with broken replication, with this error: The process could not connect to Subscriber 'POS986'. NOTE: The step was retried the requested number of times (5760) without succeeding. The step failed. It seems that SQL Server is not respecting the number of retries or the interval between retries as we configured. PS: I have restarted the replication job after changing the number of retries from 10 to 5760.

• How to prevent Excel rounding numbers or adding redundant 0's?

  I have a column of numbers that appear like this: but the actual value of the shown cell is 20130.153334 Other values have a different number of decimal places. I don't want to add redundant 0's, so I can't just specify a particular number of decimal places to display. I really just want to treat the values as text. I have already changed the format of the cell to Text, as the description for Text is: "Text format cells are treated as text even when a number is in the cell. The cell is displayed exactly as entered.". However, it clearly isn't being displayed exactly as entered! Strangely, if I hit F2 on the cell to go into edit mode, then hit enter, it is then displayed correctly. I can't do this manually for 2000+ records though! How can I prevent the numbers being rounded?

• Computer Software Needed

  A friend started my website with Frontpage 2000 in Oct04. I used it until 09 and started to use Kompozer. I am starting to have difficulty updating my picture pages. Some pictures never show up or show up as X. I'm not sure what the problem is. I haven't been able to figure out how to upload files to Filezilla either. Is there a software program similar to Frontpage and Kompozer that will allow me to do weekly updates/addition to my picture pages without recreating the whole page? I dabbled with Web Builder 8-Easy WebEditor-Expression Web and Pagebreeze.
