Client PC boots, then stick at wallpaper and won't continue to load login dialog (even in safe-mode).
Any suggestions? I'm too new school for this. Haha
Pretty much the entire question is in the title. I've got a powershell script watching a directory for processing, so I'd prefer that the file didn't appear until the upload was complete...presumably FileZilla would write the file to a temp directory until it was complete.
TIA.
So we have a file share that was started 10 years or so ago and it started off with the best intentions. But now it's gotten bloated, there's files in there that nobody know who put them there, it's hard to find information, ect ect. You probably know the problem. So what I'm wondering is what do people do in this situation. Does anyone know of a…
Is it possible to put an anti-glare filter on a touch enabled Netbook without disabling the touch functionality?
If yes, would it also be possible to remove the filter without damaging the screen?
In my case it's an Acer 1420p (the PDC edition). It's a good machine but unfortunately you can also use it as a mirror.
I would like to be able to run task(s) in the background of a shell and not have their output to stdout or stderr cover the command line at the bottom. Frequently I need to run other commands to interact with the background processes and would like to do so from the same shell without having to open up another terminal or using multiplexer to…

So – I just bought the new game Supreme Commander 2. This question is not about the game, but about the online software installation platform that it seems to require. I haven't bought a game in a long time, and I'm puzzled: Apparently, SC2 is a "Steam"-powered game.
When I went to install the game, it asked me to either create a new…
I have a HP edition iPod (20gig) and it is stuck on the "AC Charge" icon with the picture of the wall charger and an outlet. I tried to reset the device and it has been stuck on this icon for quite a while now. I have tried everything I can to try to reset it, and before I stoop to visiting an Apple store I want to see if anyone has…
We are having an issue with Windows Fax Server on Windows Server 2008. Occasionally, the server will get into a state where after adding jobs to the outbox, they will simply remain at the pending status (without any attempt to send them). There is nothing in the event log mentioning a problem. It typically seems to enter the state…
I would like to use my own drives in the Dell PowerVault MD3000i.
Does anyone know if you are able to?
We are looking at different SANs for our VM farm and would rather be able to replace a drive in 10 minutes. This will also reduce the cost of drives significantly.
Also, if anyone has any good experience with other SANs that…
I have a Microsoft Virutal PC hard drive (.vhd format) that's maxed out it's 16 gig hard drive space. What would be the best way to increase this diskspace?
Booting into the machine (windows xp professional) and using the disk management snap in, I can see that the virtual drive has approximately 40 more unused gigs of space.…
We have 3 juniper SRX-100 firewalls, they are configured like so:
FW1 - FW2 - INTERNET - FW3
We would like to create an IPSEC tunnel between FW3 and FW1 passing through FW2 preferably using NAT-T. Is this possible?
FW1 and FW2 have some strict access rules only allowing 1 port connected (it's a DMZ with a server in) so we…
I'm trying to get MySQL to function as a backend for authenticating users on CentOS 6.3. So far I have successfully installed and configured libnss-mysql. I can test this by doing:
# groups testuser
testuser : sftp
Testuser is a member of the sftp group in fact, all MySQL based useraccounts will be hardcoded to it. The…
I realize this has been asked before and I have read as much as I could find on the topic but I still need help with this because there are so many different approaches and the ones I am trying aren't working.

I've got a MacBook laptop in the house, and when Mac OS X copies files over the network, it often brings along hidden "dot-files" with it. For instance, if I copy "SomeUtility.zip", there will also be copied a hidden ".SomeUtility.zip" file. I consider these OS X dot-files as useless turds of data as far as the rest…
I've noticed that some Western Digital hard drives are now sporting 4K sectors, that is, the sectors are larger: 4096 bytes vs. the actual de facto standard of 512 bytes. So:
What's the big deal with 4K sectors? Is it marketing hype, or a real advantage?
Why should somebody building a new PC care, or not, about…
A user was instructed by their software support to upgrade a program and install SQLExpress as part of the installation process.
Since that time, the service has been able to start, citing error 17053, which appears to be an authentication issue.
Here is the error log:

I'm interested in reading PDF-format ebooks on my Apple iPad. I have half a gig of PDFs I want to transfer to it, from my PC. I'm familiar already with loading EPUB-format titles through iBooks – unfortunately, iBooks doesn't read PDFs so I am looking at using a third-party application.

Hello.
I have two instances of SQL Server 2008. One was upgraded from SQL Server 2000 and one was a clean, new install. The instances are running on different nodes of the same cluster, although I have tried having them both on the same node with identical results.
SQL Mail operates perfectly on both…
I was monitoring my JVM running Apache Tomcat 6, running on Windows, and I noticed that every 3 seconds or so the JVM process (C:\Tomcat\bin\tomcat6.exe) is polling to see whether or not
C:\Tomcatcat\java_pid3748.hprof
exists, where 3748 is the Windows process ID.
I haven't seen write to the hprof…
