    I'm getting the following error when I access my webservice localhost/MyService/MyService.svc The SSL settings for the service 'SslRequireCert' does not match those of the IIS 'Ssl, SslNegotiateCert'. I've following the web.config examples as specified in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms731074.aspx Here is my wcf server web.config: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <configuration xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0"> <appSettings /> <system.web> <identity impersonate="false" /> <roleManager enabled="true" /> <authentication mode="Windows" /> <customErrors mode="Off" /> <webServices> <protocols> <add name="HttpGet" /> <add name="HttpPost" /> </protocols> </webServices> </system.web> <system.webServer> <directoryBrowse enabled="true" /> <validation validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false" /> <security> <authorization> <remove users="*" roles="" verbs="" /> <add accessType="Allow" users="*" roles="" /> </authorization> </security> </system.webServer> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="AspNetSqlProviderService" behaviorConfiguration="MyServiceBehavior"> <endpoint binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="Interface1" bindingConfiguration="CertificateWithTransportWSHttpBinding" /> <endpoint binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="Interface2" bindingConfiguration="CertificateWithTransportWSHttpBinding" /> <endpoint address="mex" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="CertificateWithTransportWSHttpBinding" name="Metadata_Exchange" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="MyServiceBehavior"> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="True" /> <serviceMetadata /> <serviceCredentials> <clientCertificate> <authentication trustedStoreLocation="LocalMachine" revocationMode="Online"/> </clientCertificate> </serviceCredentials> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="CertificateWithTransportWSHttpBinding"> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType="Certificate" /> </security> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> I've configured IIS as follows: https binding added using self signed certificate Under SSL settings, require SSL and accept client certificates is checked The self signed certificate has been added to the Local Computer Trusted Root CA. I can browse and execute the .asmx service definition, but the .svc gives me the error described above.

  • SQL SERVER – What is Spatial Database? – Developing with SQL Server Spatial and Deep Dive into Spati

    - by pinaldave
What is Spatial Database? A spatial database is a database that is optimized to store and query data related to objects in space, including points, lines and polygons. While typical databases can understand various numeric and character types of data, additional functionality needs to be added for databases to process spatial data types. (Source: Wikipedia) Today I will be talking about the same subject at Microsoft TechEd India. If you want to learn about how to spatial aspect of data and how to integrate them with SQL Server this is the perfect session for you. Spatial is very special concept of SQL Server and I really like how it is implemented in SQL Server. In general Performance Tuning and Query Optimization is something I always have enjoyed in my professional life. Index are my best friends and many time, by implementing and many time by removing I have improved the performance of the system. In this session, I will be talking about Index along with Spatial Data. As Spatial Database is very interesting concept, I will cover super short but very interesting 10 quick slides about this subject. I will make sure in very first 20 mins, you will understand following topics Introduction to Spatial Database One line definition Understanding Spatial Indexing Index Internals Query/Performance Tuning Query Hinting/Cost Analysis Spatial Index Catalog Views Performance Troubleshooting Finding Optimal Index using Spatial Index SP Common Errors Index Maintenance This slides decks will be followed by around 30 mins demo which will have story of geometry, geography, index internals and performance tuning. If you are interested in learning how GIS works and how SQL Server out of the box supports this wonderful tools, you will really like how the story is told. I am sure all people who attend the event will know how the Bangalore is positioned on the map of India. I will take example of Bangalore and Hyderabad and demonstrate how index can improve the performance. Well there are lots of story to tell in the session, and I will be opening this session with the beautiful script of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus created by Michael J. Swart. I will also demonstrate few real life scenario where I will be talking about Spatial Database and its usage. Do not miss this session. At the end of session there will be book awarded to best participant. My session details: Session 3: Developing with SQL Server Spatial and Deep Dive into Spatial Indexing Date: April 14, 2010 Time: 5:00pm-6:00pm Microsoft SQL Server 2008 delivers new spatial data types that enable you to consume, use, and extend location-based data through spatial-enabled applications. Attend this session to learn how to use spatial functionality in next version of SQL Server to build and optimize spatial queries. This session outlines the new geography data type to store geodetic spatial data and perform operations on it, use the new geometry data type to store planar spatial data and perform operations on it, take advantage of new spatial indexes for high performance queries, use the new spatial results tab to quickly and easily view spatial query results directly from within Management Studio, extend spatial data capabilities by building or integrating location-enabled applications through support for spatial standards and specifications and much more. • Is an 'if password == XXXXXXX' enough for minimum security?

    - by Morgan Herlocker
If I create a login for an app that has middle to low security risk (in other words, its not a banking app or anything), is it acceptable for me to verify a password entered by the user by just saying something like: if(enteredPassword == verifiedPassword) SendToRestrictedArea(); else DisplayPasswordUnknownMessage(); It seems to easy to be effective, but I certainly would not mind if that was all that was required. Is a simple check on username/password combo enough? Update: The particular project happens to be a web service, the verification is entirely server side, and it is not open-source. Does the domain change how you would deal with this?

  • What is a better language to use when building a database: Visual C# or Visual Basic (VB.net)? [on hold]

    - by user3413537
I'm building a GUI and a database which is using SQL as a server (internal database not a web application). Which language is more of a "right tool" when it comes to building a not very structurally complicated database? What are the advantages and disadvantages of Visual C# / VB.net? I've been reading a lot of stuff online and they said that VB.net is not as capable and it doesn't have as much support as Visual C#, and it seems that VB.net is on a decline in terms of popularity.

  • What sort of security method is this called (if it has a name)?

    - by loosebruce
I have thought of a way of securing access to an application interacting with another application. Using this method Application 1 - "What is the sum of 1+1?" Application 2 - "3" Application 1 - "Access granted" Is this method used a lot, does it have a classification in the programming world? The advantages for me of using this is that I do not have to spend more effort implementing security keys/certificates. Any unauthorized machine trying to interpret it would give the correct result and identify itself as untrusted. What sort of weaknesses are there to doing this?

  • How do you off load work from the database?

    - by TheLQ
In at least the web development field, web servers are everywhere but are backed by very few database servers. As web servers get hit with requests they execute large queries on the database, putting the server under heavy load. While web servers are very easy to scale, db servers are much harder (at least from what I know), making them a precious resource. One way I've heard from some answers here to take load off the database is to offload the work to the web server. Easy, until you realize that now you've got a ton of traffic internally as a web server tries to run SELECT TOP 3000 (presumably to crunch the results on its own), which still slows things down. What are other ways to take load off the database?

  • Should I close database connections after use in PHP?

    - by Sprottenwels
I wonder if I should close any unnecessary database connection inside of my PHP scripts. I am aware of the fact that database connections are closed implicitly when the block stops executing and 'manually' closing the connections could kinda bloat the codebase with unnecessary code. But shouldn't I do so in order to make by code as readable and as easy understandable as possible, while also preventing several possible issues during run time? Also, if I would do, would it be enough to unset() my database object?

  • My very first serious project and I'm concerned about security.

    - by ilhan
I'm making a small social networking web site for a specific university's students (where I study) and I'm concerned about security (access to the database). What should I do? What I have to check for last time until I went online? (Yeah, Facebook Facebook. Facebook don't have that community sense. You cannot find all your department mates on Facebook. You cannot see all foreign students on Facebook. You cannot hide your identity on Facebook while commenting, etc etc. Just please don't compare it with Facebook, we had a great local social network until it went public . * ))

  • For an ORM supporting data validation, should constraints be enforced in the database as well?

    - by Ramnique Singh
I have always applied constraints at the database level in addition to my (ActiveRecord) models. But I've been wondering if this is really required? A little background I recently had to unit test a basic automated timestamp generation method for a model. Normally, the test would create an instance of the model and save it without validation. But there are other required fields that aren't nullable at the in the table definition, meaning I cant save the instance even if I skip the ActiveRecord validation. So I'm thinking if I should remove such constraints from the db itself, and let the ORM handle them? Possible advantages if I skip constraints in db, imo - Can modify a validation rule in the model, without having to migrate the database. Can skip validation in testing. Possible disadvantage? If its possible that ORM validation fails or is bypassed, howsoever, the database does not check for constraints. What do you think? EDIT In this case, I'm using the Yii Framework, which generates the model from the database, hence database rules are generated also (though I could always write them post-generation myself too).

  • Migrate database from SQL Server Standard to SQL Server Express for DotNetNuke

    - by Bjørn
Hello, we have an old server that we want to dedicate fully as a public webserver (hosting a few DotNetNuke sites), and for this purpose we would like to install SQL Server Express (probably 2008) on the server and thus have both the Database server and the Web Server on the machine. But: The databases for the webserver are hosted on a SQL Server 2005 Standard today. So the question is: Is it possible to move a database from a Standard Server to an Express Server?

Just wondering if it is worth to purchase tools like Sentrigo ( http://www.mcafee.com/us/about/sentrigo.aspx ) ? Does anyone have experience of using database scanner? Also, I'd like to know if there is any limitation on it. We already conducting internal OS and web scan on regular basis, by the way.

  • Which SQL database should I run?

    - by Chris Salij
I'm creating my first website from hand-coded scratch (just used WordPress and Drupal before) and I'm at the point where I'm setting up my database for the site. However my host has given me 4 options to choose from in the database department. MS SQL Server 2005 MySQL PostgreSQL MySQL 5 Which should I go for? From what I understand PostgreSQL is meant for smaller databases with high access times. Though to be honost I'm not quite sure.

  • Database Snapshots of Mirrored databases affect performance of Principal database?

    - by yrushka
I have 2 servers set in Mirroring High-safety. One is Principal and another in Mirror. Currently I have 2 snapshots of a Production database (100 GB size) created on Principal server (for no_lock purpose of massive select processes) and 2 snapshots on the mirror server for the same database for reporting purposes. I know snapshots reduce performance of source databases but I am not sure if snapshots from mirror server have any impact on principal server's performance. thanks,

  • Remote access to Microsoft Dynamics NAV (C/Side) with native non-SQL database

    - by Joannes Vermorel
I am facing a company that have a fairly recent Microsoft Dynamics NAV (C/Side) setup that comes with a non-SQL storage system called the native database server. I would need to be remotely connect to this database, and perform what would equate to SQL queries with very modest needs (no join, no complex filtering). I am rather ignorant of this technology, does someone knows to how make remote queries to this ERP?

  • Exchange: encrypted mail database?

    - by Matt
For an Microsoft Exchange server, is it possible to encrypt the email database such that the sysadmin cannot see the emails? In other words, the admin would be responsible for all aspects of running the Windows server and Exchange process, but would not be able to see the contents of any one email (except those sent to him, obviously). Only another individual (e.g. company owner) would be able to see all emails contained in the database.

I would like to know if i have a web with a huge Database and throw expensive (in time)reports , the best way to do this is with one database for the web and a replicated one for reports, or only one for both, i'm worried that users can throw reports for 5 or more years because they need that information and the web crashes because of this.

  • Adding a second table in a database

    - by MB
Hi everyone. I used the code provided by the NoteExample from the developers doc to create a database. Now I want to add a second table to store different data. I simply "copied" the given code, but when I try to insert into the new table I get an error saying: "0ERROR/Database(370): android.database.sqlite.SQLiteException: no such table: routes: , while compiling: INSERT INTO routes(line, arrival, duration, start) VALUES(?, ?, ?, ?);" Can someone please take quick look at my DbAdapter class and give me a hint or a solution? I really don't see any problem. my code compiles without any errors.. thanks in advance!
