  • Highlight DIV and dim the rest on mouseover

    - by Darren Sweeney
    I have a page full of DIVs which contain images. When I mouse over an image I can highlight it or add a shadow to accent it easily by adding class etc but is there a way to dim every other image instead. DIVs are loaded into DOM and I would like the DIV currently hovered over to retain 100% or 1 opacity and the rest of the DIVs on the page to fade to say 70% or 0.7 when one DIV is highlighted. Is this possible?

  • removing contents of div using Jquery "empty" doesn't work

    - by Andrew
    I'm trying to remove contents of particular div which are basically list items and a heading by using jquery empty so that I could replace with new contents. What happens when I run the code is, the whole div element blinked and flash the replaced content and then the old one reappear. Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong? Here's an excerpt of my code - <pre> $("#msg_tab").bind("click",function(){ $("#sidebar1").remove(); var html="<ul><li><h2>test</h2><ul><li><a href='#'>Compose New Message</a></li><li><a href='#'>Inbox</a></li><li><a href='#'>Outbox</a></li><li><a href='#'>Unread</a></li><li><a href='#'>Archive</a></li></ul></li></ul>"; $("#sidebar1").append(html); }); <div id="sidebar1" class="sidebar"> <ul> <li> <h2>Messages</h2> <ul> <li><a href="#">Compose New Message</a></li> <li><a href="#">Inbox</a></li> <li><a href="#">Outbox</a></li> <li><a href="#">Unread</a></li> <li><a href="#">Archive</a></li> </ul> </li> </ul> </div> Another question is, how do I write multiple line html code string in javascript so that java would recognize as a string value? Placing forward slash at the end is ok when the string is not a html code but, in html code, I can't figure out how to escape forward slash from ending tags.I've tried escaping it with backward slash but doesn't work. I would be appreciated if anyone could shed a light on this matter as well.

  • color letters in a div

    - by Growler
    I've created a palindrome checker. I want to take it one step further and show the letters being compared as it is being checked. HTML: <p id="typing"></p> <input type="text" id="textBox" onkeyup="pal(this.value);" value="" /> <div id="response"></div> <hr> <div id="palindromeRun"></div> JS: To do this, I run the recursive check... Then if it is a palindrome, I run colorLetters(), which I'm trying to highlight in green each letter as it is being checked. Right now it is just rewriting palindromeRun's HTML with the first letter. I know this is because of the way I'm resetting its HTML. I don't know how to just grab the first and last letter, change only those letters' css, then increment i and j on the next setTimeout loop. var timeout2 = null; function pal (input) { var str = input.replace(/\s/g, ''); var str2 = str.replace(/\W/, ''); if (checkPal(str2, 0, str2.length-1)) { $("#textBox").css({"color" : "green"}); $("#response").html(input + " is a palindrome"); $("#palindromeRun").html(input); colorLetters(str2, 0, str2.length-1); } else { $("#textBox").css({"color" : "red"}); $("#response").html(input + " is not a palindrome"); } if (input.length <= 0) { $("#response").html(""); $("#textBox").css({"color" : "black"}); } } function checkPal (input, i, j) { if (input.length <= 1) { return false; } if (i === j || ((j-i) == 1 && input.charAt(i) === input.charAt(j))) { return true; } else { if (input.charAt(i).toLowerCase() === input.charAt(j).toLowerCase()) { return checkPal(input, ++i, --j); } else { return false; } } } function colorLetters(myinput, i, j) { if (timeout2 == null) { timeout2 = setTimeout(function () { console.log("called"); var firstLetter = $("#palindromeRun").html(myinput.charAt(i)) var secondLetter = $("#palindromeRun").html(myinput.charAt(j)) $(firstLetter).css({"color" : "red"}); $(secondLetter).css({"color" : "green"}); i++; j++; timeout2=null; }, 1000); } } Secondary: If possible, I'd just like to have it colors the letters as the user is typing... I realize this will require a setTimeout on each keyup, but also am not sure how to write this.

  • jQuery slideToggle - when div is toggled it pushes content out of viewable area (IE)

    - by Chris
    This is an annoying ocurrance in IE when I use the jQuery slideToggle effect. Without the div being open, page looks normal. The minute I toggle the div open, it extends past the current content, overtop of the footer, and out of the viewable browser area (Even after scrolling all the way down). This feature seems to work just fine in firefox. Do I need an additional hack or CSS to make it work in IE8?

  • Jquery: Incrimentation for each set of elements in more than 1 div

    - by Jack
    I'm making a Jquery slideshow. It lists thumbnails, that when clicked on, reveal the large image as an overlay. To match up the thumbs with the large images I'm adding attributes to each thumbnail and large image. The attributes contain a number which matches each thumb to its corresponding large image. It works when one slideshow is present on a page. But I want it to work if more than one slideshow is present. Here's the code for adding attributes to thumbs and large images: thumbNo = 0; largeNo = 0; $(this + '.slideshow_content .thumbs img').each(function() { thumbNo++; $(this).attr('thumbimage', thumbNo); $(this).attr("title", "Enter image gallery"); }); $(this + '.slideshow_content .image_container .holder img').each(function() { largeNo++; $(this).addClass('largeImage' + largeNo); }); This works. To make the incrementation work when there are two slideshows on a page, I thought I could stick this code in an each function... $('.slideshow').each(function() { thumbNo = 0; largeNo = 0; $(this + '.slideshow_content .thumbs img').each(function() { thumbNo++; $(this).attr('thumbimage', thumbNo); $(this).attr("title", "Enter image gallery"); }); $(this + '.slideshow_content .image_container .holder img').each(function() { largeNo++; $(this).addClass('largeImage' + largeNo); }); }); The problem with this is that the incrimenting operator does not reset for the second slideshow div (.slideshow), so I end up with thumbs in the first .slideshow div being numbered 1,2,3 etc.. and thumbs in the second .slideshow div being numbered 4,5,6 etc. How do I make the numbers in the second .slideshow div reset and start from 1 again? This is really hard to explain concisely. I hope someone gets the gist.

  • Floating an inline element to the right of a div

    - by Rajat
    I want to right-align an inline element to the right of a div. I have seen float="right" applied on a span to right align it but it seems semantically incorrect to me as floats are supposed to move "boxes" or block elements to the right or left of a container element. Is my understanding of Float wrong or is there another way of right-aligning inline elements in a container DIV.

  • jQuery - Set min-height of div

    - by Kenny Bones
    This is probably really easy for most of you. But I'm in need of a small snippet that looks up the current height of a div (the div has a dynamic height based on the content inside it) and then set that value in the css class's min-height value. Basically what this means is that I want this container to have it's min-height to be the exact same value as it's current height. This is probably a quick one :)

  • removeClass doesn't work on the second DIV tag

    - by kwokwai
    Hi all, I am learning JQuery and writing a simple data validation for the two fields in a HTML form: <FORM name="addpost" id="addpost" method="post" action="/add"> <TABLE BORDER=0 width="100%"> <TR> <TD>Topic</TD> <TD> <DIV ID="topic"> <INPUT type=text name="topic" id="topic" size="72" maxlength="108"/> </DIV> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD>Comments</TD> <TD> <DIV ID="topiccontent"> <TEXTAREA rows="12" cols="48" name="content" ID="content"> </TEXTAREA> </DIV> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <INPUT type="submit" value="Send"> </TD> </TR> </TABLE> </FORM> Here is the JQuery script for checking the data input from the form above: $('#addpost').submit(function(){ if($('#topic').val()==""){ $('#topic').addClass('hierror'); return false;} else{$('#topic').removeClass('hierror');} if($('#topiccontent').val()==""){ $('#topiccontent').addClass('hierror'); return false;} else{$('#topiccontent').removeClass('hierror');} }); Here is the CSS for the hierror class: .hierror{border-style:solid; border-width:12px; border-color:#FF0000;} ('#topic').removeClass('hierror') works but ('#topiccontent').removeClass('hierror') doesn't. Could you help me please?
