  • Getting types of the attributes in an ActiveRecord object

    - by Michael Neale
    I would like to know if it is possible to get the types (as known by AR - eg in the migration script and database) programmatically (I know the data exists in there somewhere). For example, I can deal with all the attribute names: ar.attribute_names.each { |name| puts name } .attributes just returns a mapping of the names to their current values (eg no type info if the field isn't set). Some places I have seen it with the type information: in script/console, type the name of an AR entity: >> Driver => Driver(id: integer, name: string, created_at: datetime, updated_at: datetime) So clearly it knows the types. Also, there is .column_for_attribute, which takes an attr name and returns a column object - which has the type buried in the underlying database column object, but it doesn't appear to be a clean way to get it. I would also be interested in if there is a way that is friendly for the new "ActiveModel" that is coming (rails3) and is decoupled from database specifics (but perhaps type info will not be part of it, I can't seem to find out if it is). Thanks.

  • Facebook FQL Question

    - by Michael
    I'm trying to use the Facebook Javascript API to run FQL queries, and it works fine if I try and get users by username or uid, but doesn't work when I'm searching by name. function get_username() { var name = prompt("Enter name: ") FB.api( { method: 'fql.query', query: 'SELECT username FROM user WHERE name in "'+name+'"' }, function(response) { var x = response[0].username alert('Username is ' + x); } ); } I realize that this will probably return multiple users, but I can't figure out how to tell if it's returning multiple users or no users at all, it seems to freeze after trying to get response[0].username. I'm probably making a beginner mistake but any ideas?

  • C# Sockets Buffer Overflow No Error

    - by Michael Covelli
    I have one thread that is receiving data over a socket like this: while (sock.Connected) { // Receive Data (Block if no data) recvn = sock.Receive(recvb, 0, rlen, SocketFlags.None, out serr); if (recvn <= 0 || sock == null || !sock.Connected) { OnError("Error In Receive, recvn <= 0 || sock == null || !sock.Connected"); return; } else if (serr != SocketError.Success) { OnError("Error In Receive, serr = " + serr); return; } // Copy Data Into Tokenizer tknz.Read(recvb, recvn); // Parse Data while (tknz.MoveToNext()) { try { ParseMessageAndRaiseEvents(tknz.Buffer(), tknz.Length); } catch (System.Exception ex) { string BadMessage = ByteArrayToStringClean(tknz.Buffer(), tknz.Length); string msg = string.Format("Exception in MDWrapper Parsing Message, Ex = {0}, Msg = {1}", ex.Message, BadMessage); OnError(msg); } } } And I kept seeing occasional errors in my parsing function indicating that the message wasn't valid. At first, I thought that my tokenizer class was broken. But after logging all the incoming bytes to the tokenizer, it turns out that the raw bytes in recvb weren't a valid message. I didn't think that corrupted data like this was possible with a tcp data stream. I figured it had to be some type of buffer overflow so I set sock.ReceiveBufferSize = 1024 * 1024 * 8; and the parsing error never, ever occurs in testing (it happens often enough to replicate if I don't change the ReceiveBufferSize). But my question is: why wasn't I seeing an exception or an error state or something if the socket's internal buffer was overflowing before I changed this buffer size?

  • Simple form not working anymore, since adding jquery tablesorter on same page

    - by Michael
    Hi, I'm using jquery and tablesorter plugin to sort a table in a php-page, which works flawless. Further I have this form in it: <form name="newrs" id="newrs" action="edit.php" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="POST" onSubmit=""> <input class="btn" id="bbtnNew" name="button" type="submit" value="New Recordset" /> </form> But since I added the jquery/tablesorter functionality, the form doesn't work anymore. (If I click on submit, nothing happens. What causes this behaviour? And how can I overcome this? Thanks in advance for your suggestions! .... Initializing the tablesorter with this code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $("#myTable").tablesorter( { sortList: [ [4,1] ] , widgets: ['zebra'] } ); } ); </script>

  • Ajax Minifier Visual Studio include all javascript files

    - by Michael
    I am using the Ajax Minifier http://www.ajaxprojects.com/ajax/tutorialdetails.php?itemid=766 and have embedded it in the csproj file for use in Visual Studio 2008 (not the free version). I have two folders, Content and Scripts, directly under the root of the project. Also, the Content folder has subfolders, and would like to include all of these as well (if I have to manually add each subfolder that is fine as well). Currently, my csproj file looks like this (and is included within the Project tags as instructed). There are no build errors, the files simply do not get minified. (I've enabled Project - View All files) <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\Microsoft\MicrosoftAjax\ajaxmin.tasks" /> <Target Name="AfterBuild"> <ItemGroup> <JS Include="Scripts\*.js" Exclude="Scripts\*.min.js;"/> <JS Include="Content\**\*.js" Exclude="Content\**\*.min.js;"/> </ItemGroup> <AjaxMin SourceFiles="@(JS)" SourceExtensionPattern="\.js$" TargetExtension=".min.js" /> </Target> How would I edit the csproj file in order to include these folders?

  • Niceforms and jQuery events

    - by Michael Edwards
    Our design agency has supplied HTML that uses NiceForms. The problem I am having is that this mucks up jQuery event binding. I have the following code: keys = $("#key input"); $(keys).each(function(){ $(this).change(function() { console.log("hi"); } } If I disable NiceForms this code works but with Niceforms enabled it doesn't. How do I get around this problem?

  • "wait_fences: failed to receive reply: 10004003"?

    - by Michael
    I get this cryptic error the first time (and only the first time) my view is loaded due to the following line of code: - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [textField becomeFirstResponder]; } There is a noticeable (~3 – 4 second, even on the simulator) delay due to this that makes my app feel unresponsive. Does anyone know how to fix this? I can't find any documentation on it on Apple's site, or any solutions here or on Google. Strangely, the opposite situation happens if I put the line in -viewDidAppear: instead of -viewWillAppear:; that is, instead of printing the error only the first time the keyboard is shown and never again, the error is not printed the first time but every time after. This is causing a major headache for me.

  • Binding a TreeView with ContextMenu in Xaml

    - by Michael Stoll
    I'm pretty new to Xaml and need some advise. A TreeView should be bound to a hierarchical object structure. The TreeView should have a context menu, which is specific for each object type. I've tried the following: <TreeView> <TreeView.Resources> <DataTemplate x:Key="RoomTemplate"> <TreeViewItem Header="{Binding Name}"> <TreeViewItem.ContextMenu> <ContextMenu> <MenuItem Header="Open" /> <MenuItem Header="Remove" /> </ContextMenu> </TreeViewItem.ContextMenu> </TreeViewItem> </DataTemplate> </TreeView.Resources> <TreeViewItem Header="{Binding Name}" Name="tviRoot" IsExpanded="True" > <TreeViewItem Header="Rooms" ItemsSource="{Binding Rooms}" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource RoomTemplate}"> <TreeViewItem.ContextMenu> <ContextMenu> <MenuItem Header="Add room"></MenuItem> </ContextMenu> </TreeViewItem.ContextMenu> </TreeViewItem> </TreeViewItem> But with this markup the behavior is as intended, but the child items (the rooms) are indented too much. Anyway all the bining samples I could find use TextBlock instead of TreeViewItem in the DataTemplate, but wonder how to integrate the ContextMenu there.

  • Creating Drill-Down Detail UITableView from JSON NSDictionary

    - by Michael Robinson
    I'm have a load of trouble finding out how to do this, I want to show this in a UITableDetailView (Drill-Down style) with each item in a different cell. All of the things I've read all show how to load a single image on the detail instead of showing as a UITableView. Does the dictionary have to have "children" in order to load correctly? Here is the code for the first view creating *dict from the JSON rowsArray. I guess what I'm looking for is what to put in the FollowingDetailViewController.m to see the rest of *dict contents, so when selecting a row, it loads the rest of the *dict. I have rowsArray coming back as follows: '{ loginName = Johnson; memberid = 39; name = Kris; age = ;}, etc,etc... Thanks, // SET UP TABLE & CELLS - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } NSDictionary *dict = [rowsArray objectAtIndex: indexPath.row]; cell.textLabel.text = [dict objectForKey:@"name"]; cell.detailTextLabel.text = [dict objectForKey:@"loginName"]; cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator; return cell; } - (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewDidAppear:animated]; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; //GET JSON FROM WEBSERVICES: NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://10.0.1.8/~imac/iphone/jsontest.php"]; NSString *jsonreturn = [[NSString alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url]; NSData *jsonData = [jsonreturn dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF32BigEndianStringEncoding]; NSError *error = nil; NSDictionary * dict = [[CJSONDeserializer deserializer] deserializeAsDictionary:jsonData error:&error]; if (dict) { rowsArray = [dict objectForKey:@"member"]; [rowsArray retain]; } [jsonreturn release]; } //GO TO DETAIL VIEW: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { FollowingDetailViewController *aFollowDetail = [[FollowingDetailViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"FollowingDetailView" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:aFollowDetail animated:YES]; }

  • iPhone crashing when presenting modal view controller

    - by Michael Waterfall
    Hi there, I'm trying to display a modal view straight after another view has been presented modally (the second is a loading view that appears). - (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewDidAppear:animated]; // Show load LoadViewController *loader = [[LoadViewController alloc] init]; [self presentModalViewController: loader animated:NO]; [loader release]; } But when I do this I get a "Program received signal: "EXC_BAD_ACCESS"." error. I'm totally stumped! The loading view is empty so there's definitely nothing going on in there that's causing the error. Is it something to do with launching 2 views modally in the same event loop or something? Thanks, Mike Edit: Very strange... I have modified it slightly so that the loading view is shown after a tiny delay, and this works fine! So it appears to be something within the same event loop! - (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewDidAppear:animated]; // Show load [self performSelector:@selector(doit) withObject:nil afterDelay:0.1]; } - (void)doit { [self presentModalViewController:loader animated:YES]; }

  • Remote debugging with Eclipse CDT

    - by Michael Harding
    We're using the Eclipse CDT 5 C++ IDE on Windows to develop a C++ application on a remote AIX host. Eclipse CDT has the ability to perform remote debugging using gdbserver. Unfortunately, gdbserver is not supported on AIX. Is anyone familiar with a way to debug remotely using Eclipse CDT without gdbserver? Perhaps using an SSH shell connection to gdb?

  • Weird RecordStore behavior when RecordStoreFullException occurs

    - by Michael P
    Hello everyone! I'm developing a small J2ME application that displays bus stops timetables - they are stored as records in MIDP RecordStores. Sometimes records can not fit a single RecordStore, especially on record update - using setRecord method - a RecordStoreFullException occurs. I catch the exception, and try to write the record to a new RecordStore along with deleting the previous one in the old RecordStore. Everything works fine except of deleting record from RecordStore where the RecordStoreFullException occurs. If I make an attempt to delete record that could not be updated, another Exception of type InvalidRecordIDException is thrown. This is weird and undocumented in MIDP javadoc. I have tested it on Sun WTK 2.5.2, MicroEdition SDK 3.0 and Nokia Series 40 SDK. Furthermore I created a code that reproduces this strange behaviour: RecordStore rms = null; int id = 0; try { rms = RecordStore.openRecordStore("Test", true); byte[] raw = new byte[192*10024]; //Big enough to cause RecordStoreFullException id = rms.addRecord(raw, 0, 160); rms.setRecord(id, raw, 0, raw.length); } catch (Exception e) { try { int count = rms.getNumRecords(); RecordEnumeration en = rms.enumerateRecords(null, null, true); count = en.numRecords(); while(en.hasNextElement()){ System.out.println("NextID: "+en.nextRecordId()); } rms.deleteRecord(id); //this won't work! rms.setRecord(id, new byte[5], 0, 5); //this won't work too! } catch (Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } I added extra enumeration code to produce other weird behavior - when RecordStoreFullException occurs, count variable will be set to 1 (if RMS was empty) by both methods - getNumRecords and numRecords. System.out.println will produce NextID: 0! It is not acceptable because record ID can not be 0! Could someone explain this strange behavior? Sorry for my bad English.

  • Duplicate a collection of entities and persist in Hibernate/JPA

    - by Michael Bavin
    Hi, I want to duplicate a collection of entities in my database. I retreive the collection with: CategoryHistory chNew = new CategoryHistory(); CategoryHistory chLast = (CategoryHistory)em.createQuery("SELECT ch from CategoryHistory ch WHERE ch.date = MAX(date)").getSingleResult; List<Category> categories = chLast.getCategories(); chNew.addCategories(categories)// Should be a copy of the categories: OneToMany Now i want to duplicate a list of 'categories' and persist it with EntityManager. I'm using JPA/Hibernate. UPDATE After knowing how to detach my entities, i need to know what to detach: current code: CategoryHistory chLast = (CategoryHistory)em.createQuery("SELECT ch from CategoryHistory ch WHERE ch.date=(SELECT MAX(date) from CategoryHistory)").getSingleResult(); Set<Category> categories =chLast.getCategories(); //detach org.hibernate.Session session = ((org.hibernate.ejb.EntityManagerImpl) em.getDelegate()).getSession(); session.evict(chLast);//detaches also its child-entities? //set the realations chNew.setCategories(categories); for (Category category : categories) { category.setCategoryHistory(chNew); } //set now create date chNew.setDate(Calendar.getInstance().getTime()); //persist em.persist(chNew); This throws a failed to lazily initialize a collection of role: entities.CategoryHistory.categories, no session or session was closed exception. I think he wants to lazy load the categories again, as i have them detached. What should i do now?

  • ASP.NET validation not executing in a JavaScript showModalDialog call

    - by Michael Kniskern
    I currently open a pop up window from my parent page using using a JavaScript .showModalDialog function. The pop up window contains some ASP.NET validation controls which do not display when the user clicks the ASP.NET button to submit the form. If there is an error on the page, the validation message(s) do not display, the record is not updated on the server side and the pop window closes. (The asp.net validation controls do not stop the pop up window from doing a server postback) Has anyone expereinced this behavior before and is there any way to prevent it? Here is my showModalDialong call source code: function OpenChildWindow(id) { var sFeatures = sFeatures="dialogHeight: 525px;"; sFeatures += "dialogWidth: 900px;"; sFeatures += "scroll: yes;"; sFeatures += "status: no;"; sFeatures += "resizeable: no;"; var url = "MyPopUp.aspx?ID=" + id; var childName = "ChildForm"; entryWindow = window.showModalDialog(url, childName, sFeatures); if (entryWindow == true) { window.document.getElementById("<%= btnUpdateParent.ClientID %>").click(); } } Note: When the pop up modal is closed, a ASP.NET button is "clicked" to update an ASP.NET UpdatePanel on the parent to show the changes to the record modified in the pop up window.

  • Can I override task :environment in test_helper.rb to test rake tasks?

    - by Michael Barton
    I have a series of rake tasks in a Rakefile which I'd like to test as part of my specs etc. Each task is defined in the form: task :do_somthing => :environment do # Do something with the database here end Where the :environment task sets up an ActiveRecord/DataMapper database connection and classes. I'm not using this as part of Rails but I have a series of tests which I like to run as part of BDD. This snippet illustrates how I'm trying to test the rake tasks. def setup @rake = Rake::Application.new Rake.application = @rake load File.dirname(__FILE__) + '/../../tasks/do_something.rake' end should "import data" do @rake["do_something"].invoke assert something_in_the_database end So my request for help - is it possible to over-ride the :environment task in my test_helper.rb file so I my rake testing interacts with the my test database, rather than production? I've tried redefining the task in the helper file, but this doesn't work. Any help for a solution would be great, as I've been stuck on this for the past week.

  • Sync Vs. Async Sockets Performance in C#

    - by Michael Covelli
    Everything that I read about sockets in .NET says that the asynchronous pattern gives better performance (especially with the new SocketAsyncEventArgs which saves on the allocation). I think this makes sense if we're talking about a server with many client connections where its not possible to allocate one thread per connection. Then I can see the advantage of using the ThreadPool threads and getting async callbacks on them. But in my app, I'm the client and I just need to listen to one server sending market tick data over one tcp connection. Right now, I create a single thread, set the priority to Highest, and call Socket.Receive() with it. My thread blocks on this call and wakes up once new data arrives. If I were to switch this to an async pattern so that I get a callback when there's new data, I see two issues The threadpool threads will have default priority so it seems they will be strictly worse than my own thread which has Highest priority. I'll still have to send everything through a single thread at some point. Say that I get N callbacks at almost the same time on N different threadpool threads notifying me that there's new data. The N byte arrays that they deliver can't be processed on the threadpool threads because there's no guarantee that they represent N unique market data messages because TCP is stream based. I'll have to lock and put the bytes into an array anyway and signal some other thread that can process what's in the array. So I'm not sure what having N threadpool threads is buying me. Am I thinking about this wrong? Is there a reason to use the Async patter in my specific case of one client connected to one server?

  • Android strange behavior with listview and custom cursor adapter

    - by Michael Little
    I have a problem with a list view and a custom cursor adapter and I just can't seem to figure out what is wrong with my code. Basically, in my activity I call initalize() that does a bunch of stuff to handle getting the proper data and initializing the listview. On first run of the activity you can see from the images that one of the items is missing from the list. If I go to another activity and go back to this activity the item that was missing shows up. I believe it has something to do with setContentView(R.layout.parent). If I move that to my initialize() then the item never shows up even when returning from another activity. So, for some reason, returning from another activity bypasses setContentView(R.layout.parent) and everything works fine. I know it's impossible for me to bypass setContentView(R.layout.parent) so I need to figure out what the problem is. Also, I did not include the layout because it is nothing more then two textviews. Also, the images I have attached do not show that the missing item is the last one on the list. Custom Cursor Adapter: public class CustomCursorAdapter extends SimpleCursorAdapter { private Context context; private int layout; public CustomCursorAdapter (Context context, int layout, Cursor c, String[] from, int[] to) { super(context, layout, c, from, to);
