  • ASP.NET validation not executing in a JavaScript showModalDialog call

    I currently open a pop up window from my parent page using using a JavaScript .showModalDialog function. The pop up window contains some ASP.NET validation controls which do not display when the user clicks the ASP.NET button to submit the form. If there is an error on the page, the validation message(s) do not display, the record is not updated on the server side and the pop window closes. (The asp.net validation controls do not stop the pop up window from doing a server postback) Has anyone expereinced this behavior before and is there any way to prevent it?   • Sync Vs. Async Sockets Performance in C#

    Everything that I read about sockets in .NET says that the asynchronous pattern gives better performance (especially with the new SocketAsyncEventArgs which saves on the allocation). I think this makes sense if we're talking about a server with many client connections where its not possible to allocate one thread per connection. Then I can see the advantage of using the ThreadPool threads and getting async callbacks on them. But in my app, I'm the client and I just need to listen to one server sending market tick data over one tcp connection. Right now, I create a single thread, set the priority to Highest, and call Socket.Receive() with it. My thread blocks on this call and wakes up once new data arrives. If I were to switch this to an async pattern so that I get a callback when there's new data, I see two issues The threadpool threads will have default priority so it seems they will be strictly worse than my own thread which has Highest priority. I'll still have to send everything through a single thread at some point. Say that I get N callbacks at almost the same time on N different threadpool threads notifying me that there's new data. The N byte arrays that they deliver can't be processed on the threadpool threads because there's no guarantee that they represent N unique market data messages because TCP is stream based. I'll have to lock and put the bytes into an array anyway and signal some other thread that can process what's in the array. So I'm not sure what having N threadpool threads is buying me. Am I thinking about this wrong? Is there a reason to use the Async patter in my specific case of one client connected to one server?

  • Android strange behavior with listview and custom cursor adapter

    I have a problem with a list view and a custom cursor adapter and I just can't seem to figure out what is wrong with my code. Basically, in my activity I call initalize() that does a bunch of stuff to handle getting the proper data and initializing the listview. On first run of the activity you can see from the images that one of the items is missing from the list. If I go to another activity and go back to this activity the item that was missing shows up. I believe it has something to do with setContentView(R.layout.parent). If I move that to my initialize() then the item never shows up even when returning from another activity. So, for some reason, returning from another activity bypasses setContentView(R.layout.parent) and everything works fine. I know it's impossible for me to bypass setContentView(R.layout.parent) so I need to figure out what the problem is. Also, I did not include the layout because it is nothing more then two textviews. Also, the images I have attached do not show that the missing item is the last one on the list.   • Custom Facelets components and attributes defined in taglib

    Defining custom components in Facelets is easy and quick but there's one thing I can't figure out. Is it possible with Facelets to define what attributes my custom component has? I.e: I've created a component which is used in such a way: <blue:modalWindow id="editFeesWizard" width="500" height="440" title="Wizard"> and is defined in taglib.xml as follows: <!DOCTYPE facelet-taglib PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Facelet Taglib 1.0//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/facelet-taglib_1_0.dtd"> <facelet-taglib> <namespace>http://blue/</namespace> <tag> <tag-name>modalWindow</tag-name> <source>components/modalWindow.xhtml</source> </tag> </facelet-taglib> Taglib doesn't contain any information on component attributes (id, width, height, title) and IDE cannot therefore check my syntax nor can it suggest attributes while I'm typing.     I want the properties section of the Castle config to be included from another file. I.e: <castle> <include uri="file://properties.config" /> </castle> The properties.config would then look like: <properties> <smtp>10.10.10.10</smtp> <username>john</username> </properties> I can get the include to work for components but not for properties. If I try to do this with properties I get an exception thrown. Is this a limitation of Castle?

  • Can I tell Castle Windsor to create a component in a separate AppDomain?

    I've created a multi-threaded service that uses Castle Windsor to create components to run on separate threads. I Resolve an component by name with parameters for each thread. I'm running into concurrency problems with a 3rd party library used by the components. I suspect that isolating those components in separate AppDomains will resolve the problem.   • Can you access registers from python functions in vim

    It seems vims python sripting is designed to edit buffer and files rather than work nicely with vims registers. You can use some of the vim packages commands to get access to the registers but its not pretty. My solution for creating a vim function using python that uses a register is something like this. function printUnnamedRegister() python >> EOF print vim.eval('@@') EOF Setting registers may also be possible using something like function setUnnamedRegsiter() python >> EOF s = "Some \"crazy\" string\nwith interesting characters" vim.command('let @@="%s"' % myescapefn(s) ) EOF However this feels a bit cumbersome and I'm not sure exactly what myescapefn should be. So I've never been able to get the setting version to work properly.   • Telerik RadAlert back button cache problem

    Hi, I'm sure you have had this one before so if you could point me to something similar.... I have a server side creation of a RadAlert window using the usual Sys.Application.remove_load and add_load procedure however the alert keeps popping up as it seems to be caching when the user hits the back button after it has been activated. I have tried to put a onclick event on a button to clear the function using remove_load before it moves to the next page however it still doesn't seem to clear it. Its used in validation so if a user inputs failed validation it pops up. If they then go and enter correct validation it then moves onto the next page. If they then use back button this is where it pops up again. Any ideas?   • Building a Drupal Newsletter Module for handling Newsletter Articles

    We're building a module for generating HTML for email newsletters. We've looked into using a few other modules (SimpleNews, MailChimp, among others), but due to various requirements, it'll be easier and better for us to build a custom solution. Being a new Drupal developer, I'm a bit worried about handling this in a "non-Drupal" way. That being said, my plan is to setup a vocabulary with Newsletters as a term and the actual Newsletters as sub-terms, like so: Newsletters (term) - Newsletter A (sub-term) - Newsletter B (sub-term) This has the added benefit of being able to organize where articles were published (besides just on the site.) The question, though, is how to handle the different Newsletter issues. I could go another level deeper in the vocabulary, like so: Newsletters (term) - Newsletter A (sub-term) - Issue - 2010-03-01 - Issue - 2010-03-02 - Newsletter B (sub-term) - Issue - 2010-03-01 - Issue - 2010-03-08 But I'm wondering if this is adding a bit too much complexity. Once I have this taxonomy setup, when the user went to add new newsletters it would also create a node (content type: newsletter), and when he/she went to add new issues, it would also create a node (content type: issue.) Those would then be the landing pages for that content. So, the question is is there a better way for handling this structure? Is this a Drupal-like solution?

    I'm trying to make Cakephp paginate take advantage of the SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS feature in mysql to return a count of total rows while using LIMIT. Hopefully, this can eliminate the double query of paginateCount(), then paginate(). http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/information-functions.html#function_found-rows I've put this in my app_model.php, and it basically works, but it could be done better.     I am using PHP and FPDF to generate a PDF with a list of items. My problem is if the item list goes on to a second or third page, I want to keep the Item Name, Quantity and Description together. Right now, it will go to a second page, but it may split up all of the details for a particular item.     It's clear that a search performance of the generic HashSet<T> class is higher than of the generic List<T> class. Just compare the hash-based key with the linear approach in the List<T> class. However calculating a hash key may itself take some CPU cycles, so for a small amount of items the linear search can be a real alternative to the HashSet<T>. My question: where is the break-even? To simplify the scenario (and to be fair) let's assume that the List<T> class uses the element's Equals() method to identify an item.

    Hello, I am trying to send data to LPT1 port with a C# program, unfortunately with no success.. I am using windows 7 x64. I tried both x86 and x64 (inpoutx64.dll) dll's.. With the x64 dll when I send: Output(888, 255); It just continues the program as everything went ok, but i can't see anything on my multimeter (only the static 0.02V)..   • perl one liner alternative to this bash "chain"?

    Hello everyone: I am trying to comprehend Perl following the way describe in the book "Minimal Perl". I've uploaded all source txt files onto my own server : results folder I got the output from using several bash commands in a "chain" like this: cat run*.txt | grep '^Bank[[:space:]]Balance'| cut -d ':' -f2 | grep -E '\$[0-9]+' I know this is far from the most concise and efficient, but at least it works... As our uni subject now moves onto the Perl part, I'd like to know if there is a way to get the same results in one line? I am trying something like the following code but stuck in the middle: Chenxi Mao@chenxi-a6b123bb /cygdrive/c/eMarket/output $ perl -wlne 'print; if $n=~/^Bank Balance/' syntax error at -e line 1, near "if $n" Execution of -e aborted due to compilation errors.

  • jQuery ajax() returning json object to another function on success causes error

    Hi all: I got stuck in this problem for an hour. I am thinking this is something relates to variable scoping ? Anyway, here is the code : function loadRoutes(from_city) { $.ajax( { url: './ajax/loadRoutes.php', async : true, cache : false, timeout : 10000, type : "POST", dataType: 'json', data : { "from_city" : from_city }, error : function(data) { console.log('error occured when trying to load routes'); }, success : function(data) { console.log('routes loaded successfully.'); $('#upperright').html(""); //reset upperright box to display nothing. return data; //this line ruins all //this section works just fine. $.each(data.feedback, function(i, route) { console.log("route no. :" + i + " to_city : " + route.to_city + " price :" + route.price); doSomethingHere(i); }); } }); } The for each section works just fine inside the success callback region. I can see Firebug console outputs the route ids with no problem at all. For decoupling purpose, I reckon it would be better to just return the data object, which in JSON format, to a variable in the caller function, like this: //ajax load function function findFromCity(continent, x, y) { console.log("clicked on " + continent + ' ' + x + ',' + y); $.ajax( { url: './ajax/findFromCity.php', async : true, cache : false, timeout : 10000, type : "POST", dataType : 'json', data : { "continent" : continent, "x" : x, "y" : y }, error : function(data) { console.log('error occured when trying to find the from city'); }, success : function(data) { var cityname = data.from_city; //only query database if cityname was found if(cityname != 'undefined' && cityname != 'nowhere') { console.log('from city found : ' + cityname); data = loadRoutes(cityname); console.log(data); } } }); } Then all of a sudden, everything stops working! Firebug console reports data object as "undefined"... hasn't that being assigned by the returning object from the method loadRoutes(cityname)? Sorry my overall knowledge on javascript is quite limited, so now I am just like a "copycat" to work on my code in an amateur way.
