  • Windows Domain Controller: Create a test environment from a production environment

    I need to create a working test environment of a domain we have. I need to have all the data from the production environment in the test environment. What is the best way to go about doing this? Here are some ideas I have but I am not sure if there is a better/recommended way of doing this. Use Vmware converter to create a VM of one of the production DCs create a VM and promo it on the real domain and move the vm to my test environment. use some kind of backup utility to backup the domain info and restore it to my vm I created. Thanks in advance for any help!

  • MS Office 2013 and Asian languages

    I've got a Win7 computer with Office 2013 installed. System language is German. When switching input language to Thai I can type in the system dialog boxes (like start buttno app finder), but can't type in MS Word (pressing the keys on the keyboard does nothing on the screen, the cursor doesn't move). The weirdest thing here is: if I use numeric keypad and type any number after that the keyboard starts working in Word for a few characters. Japanese and Nepal input languages work fine. Does anyone know any way to troubleshoot? Thank you!

    6.4.2 Is there separation of duties between personnel assigned to the development/test environments and those assigned to the production environment? What does the separation of duties here mean? Is it in the sense of http://www.sans.edu/research/security-laboratory/article/it-separation-duties or something else? The formulation "between test and production environment" is really confusing me, it looks like they mean that one should have different sysadmins for test and production? Or do they just mean that developers shouldn't have access to production? thanks.

  • Vertical alignment problem in textbox in MS Word 2007

    Hi, I pardon as its not a programming question at all. But if anybody can answer this it will be usefull for me. In MS word 2007 I drew a textbox and entered some text. Then I right clicked on textbox and went to format shape Then went to TextBox tab and reduced the top internal margin to 0.1 cm. But still it seems there is too much space at the top inside the textbox. I am not able to position the text exactly at the vertical middle of textbox. If I choose the auto-rezide option in format Shape, the textBox size is increases automatically but the text remains exactly at vertical and horizontal middle of textbox. but anyhow I need the textbox to be small. This is very minor but annoying problem. Can anybody help?

  • Tools to test multicast routing

    I am looking for a good simple tool that runs on a standard OS (Windows or Linux) that I can used to test that multicast is being passed properly by a router. I have been asked by a client to enable multicast routing on a Linux box acting as their router since their phone system requires multicast to for a few features. Since I am not physically near the client I don't really have the ability to experiment with the various methods for setting up multicast routing on Linux. I can setup a router at my desk that is identical to what is deployed on their network, but I don't know of any good simple tools that I can use to generate or listen for multicast traffic. The one mulicast tool I have found is mcast.exe tool which is part of the Windows 2000/2003 resource kit. From what I have read online it seems that mcast.exe does not work across a router, and only works on the local network, so that doesn't seem to be useful for me to test multicast routing. So what do tool(s) do you use to test that multicast routing is properly setup?

  • How to warehouse data that is not needed from MS SQL server

    I have been asked to truncate a large table in MS SQL Server 2008. The data is not needed but might be needed once every two years. It will NEVER have to be changed, only viewed. The question is, since I don't need the data on a day-to-day basis, what do I do with it to protect and back it up? Please keep in mind that I will need to have it accessible maybe once every two years, and it is FINE for us if the recovery process takes a few hours. The entire table is about 3 million rows and I need to truncate it to about 1 million rows.

My Client need a script or any solution, if he has two Database, One Test DB in which he tests his data on test portal and if he find it appropriate he can use those changes to be done in main DB to display on Live site.. Fior this he needs the solution to record or track all updation/deletion/insertion, so that he can do the same in main DB if found appropriate, NOTE: we have only one server, no separate server, hence binary log replication doesnt seems to be working for my case..

  • How to run MS C++ 6.0 on Windows 7

    I have MS Windows C++ version 6.0 on XP. I'd like to move it to a Windows 7 platform but when I try to install it there I get some garbage about it not being compatible, proceed at your own risk etc. When I proceed, it (not surprisingly) doesn't work. Is there a way to convince these Microsoft tools to play nice with each other? I have Win7 home edition, but I would be willing to upgrade to Win7 Pro IF I knew it would work under the "XP emulation" mode. Failing both those options, what is the least expensive "upgrade" path for C++? I don't need a bunch of other junk, just the C++ compiler. The goal is to retire my XP system since currently the only reason I keep it is to compile C++ programs that eventually are run under Win7. Thanks, Hotei

I am able to connect my router which running on FreeBSD OS, also other CentOS server with MYSQL are able to me over SSH.     Hello, I am a programmer, trying to launch my first website.. through different helpful posts in sf and others, I setup an account with Linode and set up a slice (Debian, Apache, ..etc). I have a Drupal site under development, and like to have a test site in the Linode server as well. Now, I like to have a site setup with the following requirement. What is the best way to setup and protect the test site along with the actual (production) site?. Is virtual host is the answer? To protect the test site, is .htaccess authentication sufficient to prevent access from public and robots? I also modifying the theme, database contents etc, so having two sites under one drupal installation may not be good idea . what do u suggest? thanks in advance. bsreekanth.

The code would need to trigger on emails sent to a specific domain, connect to a database, check for an email related to the email sent, and Carbon-copy that email to the related email. What I'm trying to do: When [email protected] gets an email, his auditor [email protected] gets CC'd. Jack is in a MSSQL DB table related to his auditor's email.     I have a questionnaire that users complete. It is in Excel. After users complete the questionnaire I would like to be able to generate a Word document that contains their answers. For example "The answer to your question was [answer from Excel Questionnaire cell A49 ]" I have seen that this is possible with Sharepoint. However, I don't have Sharepoint.   • Terminal Services - MS Access Frequently "Not Responding"

    Exposition: We use a program built in MS Access that I serve via Terminal Services. I just installed a new TS Server with a Quad Core 2.6GHz Xeon, 8GB RAM, and 4 SATA drives in a RAID 0. In installed Server 2008 R2 (64bit obviously). It's only role is TS. The problem: With just a few sessions (under 10), I start getting frequent Not Responding messages in each session. When it happens, the users aren't doing anything particularly taxing, just form navigation and simple insert queries. I can live with some stalls, but it is visually jarring in WS08 because the screen goes gray, and it presents a dialog offering to wait or close with some other options. Questions: Any suggestions for improving performance and reducing hangs? Is it possible to disable the dialog (always wait) and screen graying?

    We are trying to test the ethernet phy on our linux box for data loss. As of now we just establish a tftp connection to a server to upload and download a file. Whenever a mismatch occurs, it is reported as failure. This is not a very nice test, as any mismatch might have been caused by the network itself and not a phy problem.     Many users like to use e-mail address in the format "[user]+[tag]@[domain]" to facilitate local filtering of incoming messages. The semantics of that is that the message should be delivered to the mailbox belonging to "user"; the user would advertise his/her address with different tags to different potential senders and would then be able to filter incoming messages according to sender (and also to track who got the e-mail address from where). The question is: is it possible to get MS Exchange (2007) to deliver messages in this format properly? If so, how exactly? Internet searches seem to imply it is not a possibility...

    Is it possible to do an "insert" statement through linked servers. I know it is possible by using MSDTC...but does this work between MS SQL and MYSQL? Any help would be greatly appreciated. As of right now...I can update and select between the 2 databases but it gives me an error when I try to run an insert statement.     In MS Word, by default, you can use: Ctrl+F4 to close Word Ctrl+W to close the current document Is it possible to make Word close when you close the last open document? For instance, in Chrome, if you keep hitting Ctrl+W you'll eventually close the last tab, which will also close Chrome. I'd like the same functionality with Word (and the other Office products) where I can just keep closing documents until I close the last one, at which point the application closes. Unfortunately, Ctrl+W doesn't close Word, even when there are no documents open.

    hello everyone, I picked up a new server to do some testing and need of a little help in setting up my environment at home. Here is what I would like to do: The test server will be used to test new code and configurations for a SaaS product. I would like from my laptop to enter www.acme.com and have it hit the server. The server is connected to a wireless router. I have windows server 2008 with IIS running on an an IP of 192.168.1.4. What is the best way to set this up? I want to hit the test server for www.acme.com and not go out to the internet. Do i need to mess with the LMHosts file? Thanks for the help. Im sure its easy but have never done this before.

  • MS SQL 2000 and SSL Certificate

    I'm trying to set up a MS SQL 2000 server to use an already existing SSL certificate installed on the server. I verified that the certificate shows up in the Personal/Certificate folder of the account that is running the MSSQLSERVER service using the Certificate MMC snap-in. I also verified that the certificate for the CA is installed under the Trusted Root Certificate Authorities. Additionally, to make sure that it is using this specific certificate I created a Certificate registry value of type REG_BINARY in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib and I set it to the certificates thumbprint like it mentions in: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/276553 Finally, I opened up the Server Network Utility, checked Force protocol encryption, clicked OK, and restarted the MSSQLSERVER service. Unfortunately, it fails to start and looking at the event log it's failing with: 19015: Encryption requested but no valid certificate was found. SQL Server terminating. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Where did I go wrong?

  • cannot connect to MS FTP 7.5 on Windows 2008 on Amazon EC2 instance

    I have just installed the MS FTP 7.5 upgrade on my Windows 2008 Server (Service Pack 2) running on an Amazon EC2 instance. In the FTP Firewall Support settings for the server in IIS Manager I have set up the passive port range 45001 - 45005 and also set the External Firewall IP address to match the assigned Amazon Elastic IP address. Using the AWS Console I changed the Security Group for the server to allow access to the server through ports 21 and 45001 through 45005. Using an FTP client (either the command line FTP client or Windows Explorer) on the Amazon server I can connect to the FTP server but I cannot connect with an external FTP client. When I checked to see which ports were open on the server using Shields Up it shows that port 21 is open but ports 45001 to 45005 are closed. I assume I'm missing something. Any help greatly appreciated.
