• Does DB2 have an "insert or update" statement?

  From my code (Java) I want to ensure that a row exists in the database (DB2) after my code is executed. My code now does a select and if no result is returned it does an insert. I really don't like this code since it exposes me to concurrency issuses when running in a multi-threaded environment. What I would like to do is to put this logic in DB2 instead of in my Java code. Does DB2 have an "insert-or-update" statement? Or anything like it that I can use? For example: insertupdate into mytable values ('myid') Another way of doing it would probably be to allways do the insert and catch "SQL-code -803 primary key already exists", but I would like to avoid that if possible.

• MySQL: Is it faster to use inserts and updates instead of insert on duplicate key update?

  I have a cron job that updates a large number of rows in a database. Some of the rows are new and therefore inserted and some are updates of existing ones and therefore update. I use insert on duplicate key update for the whole data and get it done in one call. But- I actually know which rows are new and which are updated so I can also do inserts and updates seperately. Will seperating the inserts and updates have advantage in terms of performance? What are the mechanics behind this ? Thanks!

  A similar question has been asked, but since it always depends, I'm asking for my specific situation separately. I have a web-site page that shows some data that comes from a database, and to generate the data from that database I have to do some fairly complex multiple joins queries. The data is being updated once a day (nightly). I would like to pre-generate the data for the said view to speed up the page access. For that I am creating a table that contains exact data I need. Question: for my situation, is it reasonable to do complete table wipe followed by insert? or should I do update,insert? SQL wise seems like DELETE + INSERT will be easier (it is single SQL expression). EDIT: RDBMS: MS SQL Server 2008 Ent

  Syntax question: I am using the code below to call a query in Access VBA strSQL = "INSERT INTO tblLoanDetails ([ServerName]) VALUES ('Test') WHERE [ID]=3" Call CurrentDb.Execute(strSQL) And i am getting a runtime error of "3067: Query must contain atleast one table or query." the insert statement string looks like this (Threw the var into a text box): INSERT INTO tblLoanDetails ([ServerName]) VALUES ('Test') WHERE [ID]=3 I also tried adding a semi-colon to the end but with no luck. I also double checked to make sure my table is called tblLoanDetails and my Column names are ServerName, and ID Appreciate any help.

I've got an issue regarding last_insert_id, because for both situations (php & sql) it returns 0. YES: I've set a PRIMARY & UNIQUE field with AUTO_INCREMENT value YES: i've done some inserting before NO: Making double query with INSERT AND SELECT LAST... doesn't work. • SQL Server INSERT ... SELECT Statement won't parse

  I am getting the following error message with SQL Server 2005 Msg 120, Level 15, State 1, Procedure usp_AttributeActivitiesForDateRange, Line 18 The select list for the INSERT statement contains fewer items than the insert list. The number of SELECT values must match the number of INSERT columns. I have copy and pasted the select list and insert list into excel and verified there are the same number of items in each list. Both tables an additional primary key field with is not listed in either the insert statement or select list. I am not sure if that is relevant, but suspicious it may be. Edit MySQL Data This may be the coolest feature so far; users will be able to edit the data in a MySQL table using MS Excel in a very friendly and intuitive way.  Edit Data supports inserting new rows, deleting existing rows and updating existing data as easy as playing with data in an Excel’s spreadsheet and pushing changes back to the server.  Also this version contains the following bug fixes: Enabled the following checkboxes in the Append Data's Advanced Options dialog and added code in the Append Data dialog to use the checkboxes as follows: Automatically store the column mapping for the given table     If checked the current mapping will be stored automatically after clicking the Append button if the append operation is successful and there is no mapping for the current connection.schema.table already; the new mapping is stored with a proposed name of Mapping. Fixed problem that prevented MySQL for Excel from loading when Display settings in Windows 7 is set to Adjust to Best Performance (Oracle bug 14521405 - UNHANDLED EXCEPTION IS THROWN WHEN LOADING MYSQL FOR EXCEL). Fixed code that renames the auto-generated Primary Key column when the Table name changes since it was not detecting if a column with the same name already existed in the table. The column duplication was not actually happening, it looked that way because the automatically generated PK column was not detecting a column had that same name. Fixed code in Export Data dialog to always set an empty string instead of null to the MySQLDataColumn properties that stores MySQL data types (MySQLDataType, RowsFrom1stDataType and RowsFrom2ndDataType). Added code to display a warning and color red a column which Data Type has not been set by the user or has been manually cleared. Added code to output to the application log exception messages consistently in all places where exceptions are catched.   Firstly, my machines aren't compromised any person suggesting such will be DV'd. The security logs on some of my networks client machines (all Windows Xp Sp3) get filled with these useless error messages. Security Failure Audit Detailed Tracking Event ID: 861 User: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE The Windows Firewall has detected an application listening for incoming traffic. Name: - Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe Process identifier: 976 User account: NETWORK SERVICE User domain: NT AUTHORITY Service: Yes RPC server: No IP version: IPv4 IP protocol: UDP Port number: 55035 Allowed: No User notified: No It's always on various random ports of UDP so setting up a port exception isn't really an option. It's always from svchost or lsass both of which are running services from DLLs. One of the most offending processes seems to the be DnsCache. I have in my global policy under AT < Network < Network Connection < Widnows Firewall < Domain Profile (I haven't changed any standard profile options do both need configured? To allow remote administration and desktop exceptions and have a custom program exception list that has %SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe:*:enabled:svchost (Windows won't allow you to add this exception on a local machine but it let me have it on here in the global policy it just doesn't seem to do anything) %SystemRoot%\system32\lsass.exe:*enabled:lsass (I think this one ended all of my LSASS messages) %SystemRoot%\system32\dnsrslvr.dll:*:enabled:dnscache (I tried adding the dll itself to the exception list, this didn't seem to do anything) Is there really any other options left other than disabling the Windows Firewall entirely, disabling auditing entirely or just changing the event viewer to just auto overwrite when needed? I'd much rather fix the problem and get rid of these entries ever being created instead of just trying to cover up the problem.

  I am upgrading a SAP Java instance and am getting the error shown in the log below. There are not backup profile files in the profiles directory. The string _u does not exist in the default, start or instance profile for instance SCS01. Please can you suggest what the issue might be? • MySQL ODBC + SSL with only the SSL Cipher option?

  Does anybody know how I can have an SSL encrypted connection over MySQL ODBC without the cert options? So I asked my web host to setup a MySQL+SSL connection so that we can access our website's database via ODBC or MySQL Query Browser (or the likes). I am able to get an encrypted connection with the standard mysql client and MySQL Query Browser, but I can't get the ODBC connection to work. Looking for a little help... The way they set it up is a little different from the way I have read about on the interweb. The host didn't setup a cert, or at least I don't think so - I don't need to specify any cert options in my connection. I just need to specify the ssl cipher. Here is how I connect with the mysql client: mysql -h myhost.com -u myuser --ssl-cipher=3DES -p That works to get an encrypted connection. At least I am pretty sure it works because when I run mysql> \s I get SSL: Cipher in use is EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA Also, when I put EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA into the SSL Cipher field of MySQL Query Browser (without specifying any other SSL options) it connects just fine. But then when I try to do the same thing with my MySQL ODBC 3.5.1 and 5.1 I get a generic error. Here is the error from the 5.1 Driver. • Create image (EBS AMI) takes forever - possibly caused MySQL Server to break?

  I'm trying to create an EBS AMI from my running EC2 instance to reuse my LAMP fully configured (for my needs). I got my website up and running yesterday on this EC2 instance my MySQL was working fine until this morning (it's not that difficult to install LAMP thanks to yum so I can't see how I could go wrong with this; having said that, it's always difficult for one to realise his own errors) I have seen "Loading, please wait ..." for a few hours now. How do I know whether this is completed or its progress? Shortly after I tried to create the AMI image from my EC2 instance, I encountered database connection error can't connect to local mysql server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' I was able to restart mysqld at first. But database connection was down again. This time, I could not restart mysqld anymore. It shows MySQL Daemon failed to start. Could my attempt to create the AMI by any chance cause the MySQL server to reboot or corrupt? I did a lot of searched and have done the following although I think I shouldn't have to do any workaround for MySQL server to work here chown -R mysql.mysql /var/lib/mysql/ I also found this workaround but I'm very reluctant to follow due to my belief and the fact I would need to understand this problem first. I made programdata folder visible, deleted mysql folder that's there. Windows 7 doesn't have a very good 'grep' equivalent that I could use. I tried using powershell to find any hidden files but it requires digital signatures which I do not know how to create. Besides windows restore, is there any other way I can force my old 'invisible' mysql 5.1.40 to disappear? I want to try and install mysql via other ways, I'm not sure how to use cmake though to compile the code.

So I do not see the mistake.

• MySQL open files limit

  This question is similar to set open_files_limit, but there was no good answer. I need to increase my table_open_cache, but first I need to increase the open_files_limit. I set the option in /etc/mysql/my.cnf: open-files-limit = 8192 This worked fine in my previous install (Ubuntu 8.04), but now in Ubuntu 10.04, when I start the server up, open_files_limit is reported to be 1710. That seems like a pretty random number for the limit to be clipped to. Anyway, I tried getting around it by adding a line like this in /etc/security/limits.conf: mysql hard nofile 8192 I also tried adding this to the pre-start script in mysql's upstart config (/etc/init/mysql.conf): ulimit -n 8192 Obviously neither of those things worked. So where is the hoop that has been added between Ubuntu 8.04 and 10.04 through which I must jump in order to actually increase the open files limit?

  I am far from a DBA and have a question. Recently I installed MySQL. On my machine C:\ is a 50GB partition of two mirrored 10k SAS drives. The remaining space on those drives is allocated to D:. I also have a SSD mounted as E:. When I installed MySQL, I installed it to E:\ assuming that that is where the database information would be held since I had installed it there. I am now seeing C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\data\peq, peq being the name of my main database. Is my database being stored in C:\ and if so, how do I fix it to store the DB on the SSD?

• Command-line access to remote MySQL server

  I administer a website on a remote, shared host. My web host offers MySQL, and I am able to access this from my Mac OS X computer using a GUI program, Sequel Pro. That works great. But I want to script some queries, and Sequel Pro is not scriptable. What should I do? I've read about tunneling to mysql via SSH. I have shell access to the server, with an SSH key on my Mac, so ssh [email protected] -p 7978 gets me in. Should tunneling the MySQL port 3306 work? Like this? ssh [email protected] -L 3306:127.0.0.1:3306 (It "times out" after a minute.) Do I need to install mysql on my Mac?
