  • Matplotlib not showing up in Mac OSX

    Hi, I am running Mac OSX 10.5.8. I installed matplotlib using macports. I get some examples from the matplotlib gallery like this one, without modification: http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/examples/api/unicode_minus.html I run it, get no error, but the picture does not show up. In Linux Ubuntu I get it. Do you know what could be wrong here? Thanks

  • Javascript table construction bug using JQuery in Firefox on Mac OSX

    I'm using some code to build up tables using JQuery, but in Firefox 3.5.3 on Mac OSX, the table cells all appear on separate lines by themselves, instead of in their respective rows. Chrome 5.0.342.7 beta on OSX correctly produces the table, as does Safari 4.0.5. Here is a minimal reproduction case: <html> <body> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { var b = $('body'); b.append("<table>"); for (var i = 0; i < 3; ++i) { b.append("<tr>"); for (var j = 0; j < 3; ++j) b.append("<td>x</td>"); b.append("</tr>"); } b.append("</table>"); }); </script> </body> </html> In Chrome and Safari, I get this correct output: x x x x x x x x x but Firefox produces: x x x x x x x x x Note that if I manually create that exact table without using Javascript (i.e. direct into the HTML) then the table appears correctly in Firefox. Also, if I change the JS to append then entire table in one call then it also works -- the only time it doesn't work is if you append it part-by-part as I have done before. My question is: is this to be expected, or should I report this as a bug to Firefox? I'm pretty sure this is a Firefox bug, but I'm a bit of a newbie to JS and web development in general, so perhaps there's something I'm missing? P.S. obviously there are easy ways to get around this -- that's not my concern. See above.

  • Apache 2 Virtual Hosts no working on OSX 10.6

    This is my first MacBook and I'm trying to get virtual hosts up and running so as it's going to be my dev machine. I've got apache/php/mysql running fine, the problem is that what ever address I go to I just get one of the virtual hosts I've setup. I can't even get to the root site anymore. I had phpmyadmin setup on http://localhost/pma but now that comes up with an error. If I take out the vhosts config file it seems to work again.     Hi I got this error: Timexxxx In 'CFPasteboardCopyData', file /SourceCache/CF/CF-550.13/AppServices.subproj/CFPasteboard.c, line 1951, during lock, spin lock 0x15457a0c8 has value 0xf0000000, which is neither locked nor unlocked. The memory has been smashed. My Mac freezes except the mouse and keyboard. What is happening and how can I prevent this from happening in the future?

  • Pecl complies .so extensions for OSX built-in PHP and not MAMP

    I've installed the sphinx binaries and libraries and am now trying to install the PECL sphinx module. My system is running OS X 10.6 with MAMP 1.8.2 installed. I try to install sphinx using the following command: sudo pecl install sphinx The PECL command outputs the following: running: phpize Configuring for: PHP Api Version: 20090626 Zend Module Api No: 20090626 Zend Extension Api No: 220090626 The versions above don't match the versions listed when doing a phpinfo(). It seems that PECL is trying to complie against the built-in version of PHP. If I ignore the errors and continue the it will successfully compile and place the sphinx.so file in: /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/sphinx.so when in fact it should be: /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/ I've tried copying the sphinx.so file to the MAMP extensions dir but when I restart apache PHP displays the following warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/sphinx.so I think this is because MAMP is 32bit and the built-in PHP is 64bit so PECL complies for 64bit. I might be completely wrong but I did read this when I goggled on the topic. Does anyone know how to get PECL to map to the MAMP version of PHP instead of the built-in version?

    I'm trying to add a new keyboard layout for a non admin user on my mac. I had thought that the keyboard layout would be applied for all users when I added it to mine but alas no. I cannot get into the Users\\library\keyboard layouts folder, as it won't let me (but I'm an admin FFS!) I even went into 'get info' and set it to 'everyone read and write' but it still tells me that I don't have permission How on earth can I update the other user's keyboard layout folder?

    I'm having issues mounting an NFS share I've made on my Mac host (server) from a Centos VM (client). I'm getting a permission denied error. I have this line in /etc/exports on server: /Users/adam/Sites/ 192.168.1.223(rw) and in /etc/fstab on client: 192.168.1.186:/Users/adam/Sites/ /home/adam/Sites/ nfs rw 0 0 I'm sure this is a simple configuration issue, but I've never set up NFS properly before.   • Improper output in SSH session on OSX using FreeSSHd on Windows with cygwin bash/sh shell

    I am testing out running an SSH server on a local Windows VM. I have installed FreeSSHd and set the command shell to "c:\cygwin\bin\sh --login -i" (bash as well) with "Use new console engine" unchecked.     I'm using the following httpd-vhosts.conf file to host several sites on my MacBook. Apache Configuration The first two virtual sites (v3.local,ss.local) are giving back the following error messages in the Apache error log: [Thu Aug 30 15:12:04 2012] [error] (61)Connection refused: proxy: HTTP: attempt to connect to [fe80::1]:3002 (localhost) failed [Thu Aug 30 15:12:04 2012] [error] ap_proxy_connect_backend disabling worker for (localhost)] The third site test.local works fine without any issues. I can't seem to find out why the first two sites are responding with the listed issue. What could be causing it and how can it be resolved?

  • OSX 10.6 Give Apache2 read&write access to mounted windows share

    On Mac OS X Snow Leopard I'm trying to give the apache2 user _www full rights to a mounted hidden windows server share. I've used Connect to Server with smb://servername/share$ and saved the username/password in the keychain. The domain username used for the mount got full rights to the share on the windows server. It all works this far. I can browse and edit the files in the share from the Mac. However I can't find a way to give the apache2 user _www rights to write to the mounted share. I have a perl script that is supposed to create a file in the mounted folder but only get permission denied. I've tried all kinds of chmod and chown but it doesn't change the permissions of the share. Does anyone know how this can be done please?

    Hi, I need to merge several mp3 tracks into one, I use MAC OS X 10.5. I want to convert all my Harry Potter CDs to my iPod, but not every minute a new track (as it is on the CDs) but chapterwise. Where can I get a free software? Help, please! (I've already tried: Jfuse, but after I had merged a few chapters it said I had to buy it; emicsoft VOB Converter for MAC; File Stitcher; but since they all were shareware, for free they would only let me merge 2 files at once (that would take me days) or half of each file which is useless of course; iTunes advanced settings ("join CD tracks") when importing the CDs, but it would let me only join the complete CD, not chapters...) (Sorry for my English, hope you could understand what I wanted to say)

    When I try to enable the FTP service in the preferences (File Sharing-Options-Share Files and Folders Using FTP) the check box enables and then disables again. The console is giving me the message : 16/04/2010 12:14:20 com.apple.coreservicesd[51] sh: launchctl: command not found This indicates to me that it can't find the launchctl executable launchctl is present in the folder /bin /bin is set in the PATH variable for sh and bash shells and also in the ~/.MacOS/environment.plist How can I fix this so that my preferences can find this so that I can enable the FTP service.

  • Sporadic '.Xauthority not writable, changes will be ignored' going from OSX -> Linux

    Every now and then when users SSH from their OS X (Snow Leopard) workstation to one of our Linux hosts they receive the message: /usr/bin/xauth: ~/.Xauthority not writable, changes will be ignored Of course, their X forwarded applications will not work at this point. However, if they log out and log right back in again they do not get the message and everything works as expected. On their Mac they get their home directory via AFP. The Linux machines get it via NFS. Any ideas on what could be going on here?

    I'm trying to get the graph-models to work (from django-command extensions) on Snow Leopard. It requires pygraphviz, which I installed via macports.     Hello I have a MacPro that I'm using as a local file server. I mapped a directory on the secondary hard drive of the MacPro as a drive on our local Windows box. It worked fine for about a week and then suddenly stopped working. The windows computer gives the error that it's an invalid username and password however I have checked and double checked to ensure that the user and pass are correct to no avail. Anyone have any ideas on what's going on here?

  • Running Mac OSX 10.6 my users home directory is wrong

    Somehow my home directory on my mac machine has been changed and I'm not sure how to go about changing it back, I'm more of a linux guy and mac has some other mechanism for storing that information. Basically when I log into the machine normally than start a terminal window. I start in the /Users/erik_miller directory, which is my home directory, but when I run some this like cd ~ The machine tries to change to /Users/erik_miller. Yes, the same path with a period on the end. I can change my $HOME environment variable for the session, but the next time I start the machine it reverts. So, I think if I can find where that information is stored I can just change it there and hopefully all will be well.

  • Installing ImageMagick on Mac OSX 10.6

    I just got a new Mac and am trying to setup a local Perl development environment. I'm using MAMP but also need the ImageMagick perl module installed in order to do some of the photo processing our scripts require. I tried installing ImageMagick manually but ran into some issues and after reading online a lot of people reported having issues going this route. The general consensus was to install it using MacPorts instead so I went ahead and installed MacPorts. Unfortunately, MacPorts can't seem to install it successfully either.   • Mac OSX Server 10.6 DNS Issues

    Hi, The server was upgraded from 10.5 from 10.6, during the upgrade the Reverse Zones were lost so I tried to recreate these but found that it's best to delete all zones, definitions and start again. So I've started again and Reverse Zones are appearing but I'm still having issues. I receive the following errors (if they help) 01-Nov-2010 12:52:01.254 client 192.168.1.52#57051: view com.apple.ServerAdmin.DNS.public: query (cache) 'server.dev.home.gateway/A/IN' denied 01-Nov-2010 12:59:24.487 client 192.168.1.52#52858: view com.apple.ServerAdmin.DNS.public: query (cache) 'earth.server.dev.home.gateway/A/IN' denied At the moment I have the following setup in the DNS 1.168.192.in-addr.arpa. Reverse Zone 192.168.1.100 Reverse Mapping MacPro-Server.local. server.dev. Primary Zone server.dev. Machine 192.168.1.100 earth.server.dev. Alias server.dev.

  • Setting up a localhost mail server on Mac OSX

    I asked this over on stackoverflow. They pointed me here. I would love to be able to test php webapps that require emailing registration info etc. on my mac. I downloaded a version of CommuniGate Pro. I need to mail either to an account inside or outside (whichever is best) of the localhost. Again this would be used for testing purposes to verify and debug my code prior to uploading to a hosting service. Any ideas, help and/or examples would be very much appreciated. If it would be easier I could go over to Windows XP. That would just mean setting up wamp and transfering my files over from the mac side via dropbox. I got the local mailserver to work so I can send emails between accounts. However, I cannot seem to get the php code to work. I know that I am missing something. I see where this has been asked before. I want to add that I am using xampp. In Mac OS 10.6.8. I tried changing the php.ini SMTP command to macintosh-3.local. <?php function email($to, $subject, $body, $headers) { $headers = 'MIME-Version: 1.0' .   • Mac OSX server command equivalent for dhclient?

    Is there an MacOS command that makes a dhcp request, and renews the old lease, drops it for a new one, or usefully reports errors or lack of response from a dhcp server? This would both help fix networking on the machine after problems on the network without rebooting and would also be useful to diagnose wider networking problems from a mac. I can not find any command equivalent of dhclient though obviously some component must be serving this purpose. The question is, is that component exposed to a command line interface? I am biased to the command line for these features and may have overlooked settings panels or tools that might solve it using a gui interface. I believe this question is at the heart of this other question: Is there an equivalent command for 'init.d/networking restart' in OS X
