• Networked Parallel Port in Linux / KVM / QEMU

  What I want to use is the "-parallel" tcp or udp option from KVM / QEMU, but I don't seem to find any server for this client. I don't serve a printer but a hardware dongle. I checked ser2net, which does provide "/dev/lp0" sharing, but it doesn't seem to work for KVM / QEMU. I suspect KVM / QEMU requires "/dev/parport0". I did rmmod lp, modprobe ppdev, linked ser2net to parport0, but it didn't work out. Perhaps ser2net is not suited for this. I tried socat as well, and I tried netcat. No success. Does anyone know any KVM / QEMU compatible parallel port server? Or did any of netcat, socat or ser2net work for you?

• DYNDNS setup with TightVNC on Windows Server 2008 R2

  Hey all, i seem to be having a problem with getting ports to forward on my Windows Server 2008 R2 PC. I already set all my port forwarding for 5900/5800 on my router for my PC's IP address (192.168.1.22) but when i try to use the TightVNC PFPortChecker on port 5900 it tells me its not opened! I can not even connect to my DYNDNS server name (xxxxxxx.dyndns.org). As a side note, i am running Windows XP SP3 within a VirtaulBox inside Windows Server 2008 R2 but running the PFPortChecker in Windows 2008 R2 brings the same results as it does in the VM. I also added them to the Windows Firewall Advanced Security form to add those inbound ports for full access. What could i possibly be missing? Thanks for your time! David

  I've been using utorrent to download and upload torrents for a long time. Recently someone told me that I need to open port(s) for utorrent from my modem settings for better downloading and uploading performance. Is it true? If yes, how can I do that? My utorrent version: 2.0 and the port used for incoming connections: 61829. My modem: Yaksu S200 ADSL router modem and I can reach its settings via web interface. I looked at the settings but they seem a bit complicated to me. Other info you may need to know: I have dynamic IP. I'm using Win7 x64.

• How can I connect JConsole to WebLogic using the WL SSL Listen Port

  I would like to be able to use JConsole on remote WebLogic servers via the multiplexer port on SSL. Is it possible this without doing any configuration changes WebLogic? Only by adding some jars (e.g. wljmxclient.jar) or parameters to JConsole. I've tried with variations of the following command without success: $JAVA_HOME/bin/jconsole -J-Djava.class.path=$JAVA_HOME/lib/jconsole.jar:\ $JAVA_HOME/lib/tools.jar:$WL_HOME/server/lib/wljmxclient.jar \ -J-Djmx.remote.protocol.provider.pkgs=weblogic.management.remote -debug \ service:jmx:rmi:///jndi/iiop://server_name:7441/jmxrmi I think that one of the problem is that the SSL is not enabled in JConsole.

  I have a web server running pleks and get attacked a lot every day. I configured a firewall, and there are some predefined services such as www, and ftp, etc. I am planning to block all the ports except for the www port and the PLESK port. When I need ftp or ssh access for example i will open the ports in PLESK and then start to work. Is this a good thing to do or are there some downsides on doing this. There are some ports I am not sure of, such as SMTP,POP3,IMAP, DNS. Can i close these ports or is there no need to do so.

• Multiple VLAN on one switch port

  I have a HP ProCurve 1810G-8 which I currently use as a normal switch between 3 servers and a firewall. 2 of the servers are ESXi hosts, and one is a Nexentastor box with 2 iSCSI target LUNs. As the iSCSI traffic is on the same LAN as all other traffic, I would like to switch this to use a SAN for iSCSI traffic and the LAN for all other traffic. The Nexentastor box only has 2 NICs, and as such, with a physical arrangement, I presume that one must be plugged into the SAN VLAN and one on the LAN VLAN ports of the switch. Is there a way to have multiple VLANs over the same port? e.g. the Nexentsator box has 2 NICs, both plugged into the switch, both ports with access to both of the VLANs?

  I am having trouble getting multiple IP addresses on the untrust port. I have tried a few different methods, but can't seem to get it to work. Does anyone have a good tutorial that is not easily found or if possible can type up the steps? I don't mind trying to do it through ssh, but would prefer web interface. • Work firewall blocking Gmail IMAP port

  My work has a very over protective firewall. We use Google Apps for our email and so can access the web interface just fine. I use my laptop at work however (MacBook connected via WiFi through my AirPort Express), and prefer to use Sparrow to check my email. The problem is that our firewall blocks whatever port Gmail's IMAP server uses. I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to work around this. I'm guessing I'll need to use an SSH tunnel or VPN, but I'm looking for specific instructions. I'd prefer to only route the IMAP stuff around the firewall as opposed to using a VPN full time. I have two computers at home (one PC, one Mac Mini) that are always on and could probably act as a server if needed.

• Two Routers - 1 Port Straight to First Router

  At my house we have two Wifi routers one's connected directly to the modem and the other is plugged in down stairs as a second network(Directly connected to the first router) Is there a way that I could make it so that I have the second router have its own network, but have one or two ports that would act as if they were directly connected to the first router? That way I can port forward to devices on the second router. • The best software for users internet usage

  Hi, We are a small business using a Vigor 2820 as the internet router, and we'd like to install a software that could report any internet usage from our users. I already tried the "official" software made by Draytek called "SmartMonitor", but is reliability is a real issue as it doesn't seem to keep capturing packets after working 3 to 6hours (randomly), whereas Wireshark keeps capturing packets after that amount of time. As I'm really fed up with this tool, I'm looking for other solutions but I still want the same features: users statistics, websites ranking, users traffic, ... I already enabled the port mirroring feature, so it would be perfect if you could suggest me a port mirroring-based software (ideally freeware). I thought I had found the good one with Etherscout, but it just doesn't launch. I am even open to a tool that would "just" make some reports based on Wireshark captured files (*.pcap). Name Based - typical tomcat virtual hosting, one HOME instance with many contexts, each as an individual host IP based / port based - multiple instances of tomcat ( how is it with performance and memory consuption?) running on IP aliases (virtual IPs) for one network adapter, usually behind http apache server that can run name based virtual hostings. Otherwise I can't figure out how would I forward requests in iptables/firewall based on IP address, which is just one. How is IP based virtual hosting done as to Tomcat and multiple instances ? I'd like to hear some usage scenarios from your experience. How are you running your applications. Cause there are applications having it's own modified classloader and they are developed in a way to run alone withing a tomcat instance. • Automatically allowing SSH into a machine behind a UPNP router?

  Hi I have a MacBook connecting to the Internet from behind various routers from time to time (home, office, etc). All of the routers support UPNP. I need to allow a co-worker to SSH into the machine, without configuring each router each time to forward port 22 to the MacBook. Is there any way to get the MacBook to use UPNP (or some other method) to automatically configure any supporting router that it is behind to forward port 22 to itself? That would allow the co-worker to SSH into the MacBook but just knowing its external IP, which is easy.

• MySQL port 3306 became filtered when configured with Keepalived on Ubuntu server 12.04 lts

  I'm configuring two load balancer (lb01 & lb02) with keepalived for my two mysql server (db01 & db02) with standard port 3306. There is virtual ip address (192.168.205.10) to access it also act as failover, but somehow the web server in the front can't access this mysql server using vip. Here is my config: Keepalived: Only the mysql part that i added here. We've got DSL through Verizon through a Westell modem/router to the Time Capsule. Done the RTFM thing, and we haven't been able to get it to work.   I can't for the life of me get port forwarding to work on my Fortigate 50B. I followed the setup tips described on this other SF thread with no success. The only specific difference I can find is we are using load balancing through 2 different internet uplinks. Is there any caveat specific to this scenario that I might be missing? If you need any specific additional information please ask because I think I have checked everything: Virtual IP mapping on external interface wan1 ACCEPT all from any on wan1 to the corresponding server on internal No seeming offending firewall rules (any specific pitfalls that I might want to check for?)

• using nmap to guess remote OS and probe service details on a single port only

  I am looking at scanning with nmap a large network in order to identify the OS of devices (-O--osscan-limit) probe for details of a service on a single port (I would have used -sV for all open ports) The problem is that -sV will probe all the ports (which I do not want to do for performance reasons) and I cannot use -p to limit the ports to the one I am interested in as this impacts the OS fingerprinting. I could not find anything in the manual to limit the service probing. Thank you for any ideas (including other approaches outside of nmap, though I would prefer to stick to nmap)

• MRTG: Switch Port Throughput

  I currently have MRTG running in a Debian box. It currently polls a Netgear Switch for the speeds of 7 or so ports and then makes the graphs of them. It currently only records the bits/sec. I would like to set up MRTG to record and display the total amount of data that has gone through the port, not just the speed of it. I am somewhat new to MIBS and SNMP and so I need some help. The switch is a Netgear GS748AT and am not quite sure where to find the MIBS for it, or which MIBS I need to accomplish my task. Any and all help is appreciated!

  Hi, I have just finished setting up a Postfix mail server on a linux (ubuntu) platform. I have it sending and receiving email and it is not an open relay. It also supports secure smtp and imap. Now this is a pretty beginner question but should I be leaving port 25 open? (since secure smtp is preferred). if so then why? Also what about port 587? Also should I require any authentication on either of these ports? Please excuse my ignorance in this area :P
