• Lightweight PHP library alternative to common MVC frameworks

  Hi hi, I'm looking for a easy to learn php library to use for my coming web app project. I've recently finished a web app with fully handwritten raw php code and it's absolutely hard to be done again for another project. even though I have the recent project code snippets to be used again, but due to their non-structural arrangement (not object oriented), i have no passion to use 'em again. I have no experience with common frameworks like ZF, CakePhp, CodeIgniter, so I think to get my hands on a multipurpose OO library for my web app and the framework learning will be the next step! any suggestion? UPDATE: Many thanks guys, I have not enough time to get through the depth of every lib or framework you have kindly introduced. Since I'm going one step further I'm going to use ZF as famous framework which could provide me more job opportunities perhaps. thankssss :)

• How to read a file byte by byte in Python and how to print a bytelist as a binary?

  Hi, I'm trying to read a file byte by byte, but I'm not sure how to do that. I'm trying to do it like that: file = open(filename, 'rb') while 1: byte = file.read(8) # Do something... So does that make the variable byte to contain 8 next bits at the beginning of every loop? It doesn't matter what those bytes really are. The only thing that matters is that I need to read a file in 8-bit stacks. EDIT: Also I collect those bytes in a list and I would like to print them so that they don't print out as ASCII characters, but as raw bytes i.e. when I print that bytelist it gives the result as ['10010101', '00011100', .... ]

• Why does Silverlight provides webcam and microphone support without any encoding API?

  In the list of new features in Silverlight 4 you will find following: Webcam and microphone to allow sharing of video and audio for instance for chat or customer service applications. Silverlight captures an audio stream as raw pcm. So how would you realize for example audio/video chat or client/server audio recording application without any encoding on the client side, where there is no APIs in Silverlight available? Much less in a Silverlight you cannot use an unmanaged dll. You can use a com automation (a new feature of the Silverlight 4, I think only for Windows) but only if it was already installed on the client side (do you know any encoding COM servers that are installed with the windows). Otherwise, how would you deploy a custom COM server within you Silverlight application? The only way I found is either to deploy a command-line encoding and use it with COM AutomationFactory.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") or to implement an encoding to use it in your own AudioSink.

  Is there a way to get the defered type of a class template parameter ? template <class TPtr> struct foo { typedef TPtr ptr_type; typedef ??? element_type; /* shall be the type of a deferred TPtr*/ }; so foo<const char*>::element_type results in const char, and foo<std::vector<int>::iterator_type>::element_type results in int. i am aware of that i can use the value_type typedef for c++ iterators (like std::vector<int>::iterator_type::value_type), but raw pointers havent got a value_type typedef, so i am out of luck there.

• Python Daemon Subprocess not working at boot

  I am attempting to write a python daemon that will launch at boot. The goal of the script is to receive a job from our gearman load balancing server and complete the job. I am using the python-daemon module from pypi (http://pypi.python.org/pypi/python-daemon/). The nature of the job that it is completing is converting images in the orf (olympus raw image format) to jpeg. In order to accomplish this an outside program is used, ufraw in this case. The problem comes in when I start the daemon at boot, if I launch from the shell it runs perfectly and completes the work. When it starts at boot it is unable to launch the subprocess command. commandString = '/usr/bin/ufraw-batch --interpolation=four-color --wb=camera --compression=100 --output="' + outfile + '" --out-type=jpg --overwrite "' + infile + '"' args = shlex.split(commandString) process = subprocess.Popen(args).wait() I am not sure what I am doing wrong.   Trying to convert output from a rest_client GET to the characters that are represented with escape sequences. Input: ..."sub_id":"\u0d9c\u8138\u8134\u3f30\u8139\u2b71"... (which I put in 'all_subs') Match: m = /sub_id\"\:\"([^\"]+)\"/.match(all_subs.to_str) [1] Print: puts m.force_encoding("UTF-8").unpack('U*').pack('U*') But it just comes out the same way I put it in. ie, "\u0d9c\u8138\u8134\u3f30\u8139\u2b71" However, if I convert a raw string of it: puts "\u0d9c\u8138\u8134\u3f30\u8139\u2b71".unpack('U*').pack('U*') The output is perfect as "??????"

• GUI Control For Audio Presentation

  I need GUI control for audio file presentation. The language is not very important but it should run on windows platform. I should be able to :- load the file play the sound put and move markers across the audio bar. it would be nice if it can load itself from RTP wireshark captures (and not wav files). An example may be seen in audacity (may be someone even had an experience extracting it from there). Writing nyquist scripts in audacity is not a good option because I have to operate on RTP captures and not on raw sound samples. Another example of such control is wireshark RTP analyzer. Any advise?

• Ideas for building vulnerabilities into your site?

  I'm trying to create a programming challenge that would require developers to hack into the MVC site I create. The idea is obviously to teach them about preventing these types of attacks. The current idea I have is to build multiple vulnerabilities into the site - but the second vulnerability would require the first to be completed, etc. So I was thinking the first could be a sql injection attack, the second would require a modified GET request, etc. Exploiting the final vulnerability would reveal a specific piece of information which is proof that you have completed the entire challenge. This will not be deployed on a public site - it's simply a learning tool for developers at my company. I'm not looking for MVC-specific vulnerabilities - I'm simply using MVC because it allows me to work with the 'raw' HTML. Any ideas on the different vulnerabilities I can use?

• What is the fastest way to display an image in QT on X11 without OpenGL?

  I need to display a raw image in a QT widget. I'm running X11 on a framebuffer, so OpenGL is not available. Both the image and the framebuffer are in the same format - RGB565, but I can change it to any other format if needed. I don't need blending or scaling. I just need to display pixels as is. I'm using QPainter::drawImage, but it converts QImage to QPixmap and this conversion seems to be very slow. Also it is backed by Xrender and I think there is unnecessary overhead required to support blending in Xrender which I don't really need Is there any better way? If it is not available in QT, I can use Xlib or any other library or protocol. I can modify the driver, X server or anything else.

• Align table columns HTML

  I finally was able to align the columns in the tables of a page of my website. Though I found the solution I don't understand it. This is a fiddle I prepared. If you delete display: block from the CSS the columns are centered perfectly. The fact is that I don't understand what that instruction is causing problems, doesn't it means that elements are displayed as block elements? Shouldn't it cause the elements (the raw in particular) to fill an entire line? Thanks for your explanation

• Babel Django Off By 1 Cent

  I ran into a problem today while using BabelDjango and thought I would ask if anyone has ran into anything similar. I was using the tags in my templates, {% load babel %} and then {{amount_owed|currencyfmt:"USD"}} which returned the amount_owed minus one-cent. I thought maybe the returned value was 9.949999 which should still be $9.95 but when I returned the raw value it returned "9.95". However when I formatted it using the babel tags the rsult was off by one-cent. My 9.95 returned "$9.94" Anyone have any advice where to look to troubleshoot this problem?   Possible Duplicate: Allen Holub wrote “You should never use get/set functions”, is he correct? Is there a good, no, a very good reason, to go through all the trouble of using getters and setters for object-oriented languages? What's wrong with just using a direct reference to a property or method? Is there some kind of "semantical coverup" that people don't want to talk about in polite company? Was I just too tired and fell asleep when someone walked out and said "Thou Shalt Write Copious Amounts of Code to Obtain Getters and Setters"? Follow-up after a year: It seems to be a common occurrence with Java, less so with Python. I'm beginning to wonder if this is more of a cultural phenomena (related to the limitations of the language) rather than "sage advice". The -1 question score is complete for-the-lulz as far as I am concerned. It's interesting that there are specific questions that are downvoted, not because they are "bad questions", but rather, because they hit someone's raw nerve.

One question, which is as simple as it sounds: If you have a process Pid1 on machine m1 and a billion million messages are sent to Pid1, are messages handled in parallel by that process (I get the impression no) and is there any guarantee of order when processing messages? ie. Received in order sent? Coming from the whole C/Thread pools/Shared State background ... I want to get this concrete. I understand distributing an application, but want to ensure the 'raw bones' are what I expect before building processes and distributing workload. Also, am I right in thinking the whole world is currently flicking through Erlang texts ;)

• Benefit of outputting JSON as opposed to plain HTML

  Hey guys, Just wondering which is best here. I want to output data from a table in my DB then put a lot of this data into a html table on the fly on my page. Im working with Java on the server side. Basically I pull the results form the DB and have the raw data..just what next? There is a chance I may want to take data from multiple tables in order to combine it into one table for my site. I retrieve the results of the query from the DB, now do i create a text from it in the form of json which i can parse as json using jquery upon the return of the object to my browser?(kind of a sub question of this question: Is just using a stringbuilder the correct way to make a json object to output?) Or.. Should i build the HTML as a string and output that to the browser instead? Which is better and why? Thanks in advance!

  I'm working on HTML drum machine, and I`ve met some performance issues, rhythm start to break if BPM is higher than 110 but I'm expecting to make it work on BPM over 180. I guess that it can be related with format or codec of audio files, however it also maybe that my code is not very optimised (as I can see from JS CPU profiling it's not). So I'm expecting you guys give me some code review or some hints on optimisation. Although all similar projects I've found on internet didn't work good and maybe it's just restrictions of Audio API. • Getting the location from a WebClient on a HTTP 302 Redirect?

  I have a URL that returns a HTTP 302 redirect, and I would like to get the URL it redirects to. The problem is that System.Net.WebClient seems to actually follow it, which is bad. HttpWebRequest seems to do the same. Is there a way to make a simple HTTP Request and get back the target Location without the WebClient following it? I'm tempted to do raw socket communication as HTTP is simple enough, but the site uses HTTPS and I don't want to do the Handshaking. At the end, I don't care which class I use, I just don't want it to follow HTTP 302 Redirects :)

  I am using nothing but raw Socket IO. There isn't one HttpURLConnection nor any http client libs in my project. • Are there .NET Framework methods to parse an email (MIME)?

  Is there a class or set of functions built into the .NET Framework (3.5+) to parse raw emails (MIME documents)? I am not looking for anything fancy or a separate library, it needs to be built-in. I'm going to be using this in some unit tests and need only grab the main headers of interest (To, From, Subject) along with the body (which in this case will always be text and therefore no MIME trees or boundaries). I've written several MIME parsers in the past and if there isn't anything readily available, I'll just put together something from regular expressions. It would be great to be able to do something like: MailMessage msg = MailMessage.Parse(text); Thoughts?

• Advice on embedding video content via CMS - what format?

  Hi, if I set up the facility for people to embed video content on their site via their CMS (using TinyMCE editor), is there any reliable cross platform video format that should be used? From what I can find online, the only reliable way to embed and stream video is using FLV. Other formats seem to have caveats, e.g codecs required or quicktime updates required. Ideally I'd like to avoid this type of situation. If it is the case that FLV is the preferred option, then that involves asking people to encode their video content to FLV before uploading, so there is an extra step required here (unless I can set up the encoding in the back end, but this might take a while to process depending on the size of the video). Does anyone have any additional advice on this? The types of video i'd imagine people will be working with is raw camera footage, so i need to figure out the easiest and most reliable way of getting the footage on to a web page.

  I am working on python and biopython right now. I have a file upload form and whatever file is uploaded suppose(abc.fasta) then i want to pass same name in execute (abc.fasta) function parameter and display function parameter (abc.aln). Right now i am changing file name manually, but i want to have it automatically. Workflow goes like this. ----If submit is not true then display only header and form part --- if submit is true then call execute() and get file name from form input --- Then display the save file result in the same page. What's the commonly accepted idiom to work around this, if there is one?

  The classical C program is something like: int main() { fprintf(stderr, "hello world\n"); } a classical OpenGL program is: open up a window setup ortho view draw a colored triangle Now, I want to do the most basic thing for sound in Linux. I want to: 1) open up speakers 2) send a bunch of data, meant to be interpreted at 40Khz, 3) have pseakers play said data no midi, no instruments, ... just playing back raw data What is the easiest way to do this in a C program? [and what libraries; what's the equiv to OpenGL for sound?] Thanks!
