• Assigning a material in Blender with a script

  Question: How do you assign a material with a script to an object in blender? Info: I have this script to import a proprietary model type of mine that is basically a star map with object consisting of a single vertex. in order to make them look like stars and be visible they are all going to have a halo material assigned to them. I'm figuring out how to make this material and give it the values just fine, but I can't seem to get it to assign. I tried the most obvious thing which was: objectName.setMaterial(materialName) but that did nothing. and when i would take an object that had a material and call the getMaterial function on it, it would return nothing. there is something I'm missing here, can some one shed some light on it?   A colleague once said that God is killing a kitten every time I write a for-loop. When asked how to avoid for-loops, his answer was to use a functional language. However, if you are stuck with a non-functional language, say C#, what techniques are there to avoid for-loops or to get rid of them by refactoring? With lambda expressions and LINQ perhaps? If so, how? Questions So the question boils down to: Why are for-loops bad? Or, in what context are for-loops to avoid and why? Can you provide C# code examples of how it looks before, i.e. with a loop, and afterwards without a loop?

• listview tile layout problem (vb.net)

  hi guys, I have a listview which displays (eventually) an album cover of an itunes play list with the album name under it. the problem I am having is that I cannot get the album art (currently a blank square) ABOVE the album name. It always is on the side... how do I do it? • Can not start an desktop application in C#'s Process

  I try to pragrammatically run applications such as notepad.exe and Calc.exe with the following codes. I can see the application is activated in Process Exprorer but the application UI does not appear on the screen. I got this info inside the process p - "Process must exit before requested information can be determined" and the exitcode are 1200, 5084, etc. What is wrong? Thanks! • Passing Results from SQL to Google Maps API in CodeIgniter

  I'm hoping to use google maps on my site. My addresses are stored in a db. I’m pulling up a page where the information is all dynamic. For example: mysite.com/site/business/5 (where 5 is the id of the business). When our application bills a customer, it would be nice to have that information recorded automatically in QB rather than logging in to QB Online to fill in the info. Is there a way to accomplish this using Quickbook's APIs? The Intuit developer information is very confusing; it is mainly oriented towards extending the desktop version of Quickbooks or developing apps to publish in Intuit's app store. Have you successfully created a web or other service-side app that was able to pull data to or from QB Online?

• killing a separate thread having a socket

  Hi All I have a separate thread ListenerThread having a socket listening to info broadcasted by some remote server. This is created at the constructor of one class I need to develop. Because of requirements, once the separate thread is started I need to avoid any blocking function on the main thread. Once it comes to the point of calling the destructor of my class I cannot perform a join on the listener thread so the only thing I can do is to KILL it. My questions are: what happens to the network resoruces allocated by the function passed to the thead? Is the socket closed properly or there might be something pending? ( most worried about this ) is this procedure fast enough i.e. is the thread killed so that interrupt immediately ? I am working with Linux ...what command or what can I check to ensure that there is no networking resource left pending or that something went wrong for the Operating system I thank you very much for your help Regards MNSTN NOTE: I am using boost::thread in C++

  Following situation: I'm developing an windows mobile application using the sdk 6. Target machine is a nautiz x7. To improve the error reporting I want to catch the structured exceptions (SEH) and do a stack backtrace to store some information for analysis. So far I have the information where the exception was thrown (windows core.dll) and I can backtrace the return adresses thru the stack. But what I want to know is, which instruction in my code caused the exception? Does anyone know how to use the available exception and context information to get the appropriate function/instruction address? Unfortunately windows mobile 6 sdk for pocketpc does not support all the helper functions to do stackwalks or mini dumps.

  Is it possible to cancel a UIView animation while it is in progress? Or would I have to drop to the CA level? i.e. I've done something like this (maybe setting an end animation action too): [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:duration]; [UIView setAnimationCurve: UIViewAnimationCurveLinear]; // other animation properties // set view properties [UIView commitAnimations]; But before the animation completes and I get the animation ended event, I want to cancel it (cut it short). • View plain text files with different background colors in Mac OSX, for different programming languag

  Hi, I work with Mac OS X Leopard. I usually have 5 or 10 text files opened at the same time with different programming languages; one for a bash script, another for a python one, etc. When I use exposé all of them look the same, so it is difficult to select them. I wonder how could I work with just plain text files in OSX, so when they are opened in an editor the background color changes or some other thign, so when using exposé it is clear to me which window belongs to what language. I thought about inserting some kind of info to the last line of each document, and then creat some applescript that converts it to RTF or someother text document which includes color in bacjground, so then it is opened with textmate or someother app. Do you know a better approach for this? • Can you open an SPSite object while being within a different site collection?

  I'm working on creating a common navigation experience across two site collections in MOSS 2007. I've looked around for various solutions and haven't found anything that fits. Our navigation is dynamic and driven by a number of factors, including audience targeting. Most of what I've found relates to having static XML and that just won't work for our requirements. What I'm down to at the moment is just getting a navigation item from site collection A while in the context of site collection B. Are there reasons I shouldn't be able to just open a navigation item from site collection A and gets its audience? Certainly there could be permissions problems on my end, or code related issues, or things that are in my control. What I'm wondering is if there's something inherent to SharePoint that would not allow this. Something I don't have control over which would force me to travel a different path.

  I have two tables Publishers and Campaigns, both have similar many-to-many relationships with Countries,Regions,Languages and Categories. more info Publisher2Categories has publisherID and categoryID which are foreign keys to publisherID in Publishers and categoryID in Categories which are identity columns. On other side i have Campaigns2Categories with campaignID and categoryID columns which are foreign keys to campaignID in Campaigns and categoryID in Categories which again are identities. Same goes for Regions, Languages and Countries relationships I pass to query certain publisherID and want to get campaignIDs of Campaigns that have at least one equal to Publisher value from regions, countries, language or categories thanks

• Android MapView High Res tiles?

  I have created a simple map app that shows the local garage sales in my town. It was simple enough to create and I parse out the Google Maps (html) xml doc that the local paper uses on their google maps mashup on their website. I have noticed that the Map Tiles used in the MapView class are not as high-res as the tiles used in the real Android Google Maps app (I have a Droid). I have searched the docs and google, but I cannot find any info on this. Actually, I can't even find anyone mentioning this, which surprises me and makes me think I am missing something simple. Is this a case of Google making the APIs available, but at a lower quality, or am I missing some setting that enables higher quality map tiles?

• Creating a gallery in Rails

  I'm creating a simple site with a gallery. I have a photos model which has a page for each photo with it's info and an image. I'm unsure how to create a gallery from the photo's. The gallery model has_many photos, the photos model has_and_belongs_to_many galleries. I thought of adding a gallery.title field on each photo page so I'd have a list of photo's for each gallery then display them in a view. Is this a good way to make a gallery? (I've looked through the code on some gallery apps on github, but most are outdated are too complicated for my needs.)

• Bypassing Windows Copy design

  I have been trying to figure out a way to streamline copying files from one drive (network or external in my case) to my main system drives. Short of creating a program that I will have to activate each time then choosing all the info in it, I have no really good design to bypass it. I have been wondering if there was a way to intercept a straight-forward windows copy with a program to do it my way. The basic design would be that upon grabbing the copy (actually for this to be efficient, a group of different copies), the program would organize all the separate copies into a single stream of copies. I've been wanting to do this as recently I have been needing to make backups of a lot of data and move it a lot as all my drives seem to be failing the past few months.

I have added a function which I use to get the authors of these articles using only one query (it is described here) But I don't know what to do with the favorites (I'd like to know which of the displayed articles have been favorited by me using less than 10 queries (I want to display 10 articles)). Is it possible?

  I feel this should be easier, or I am missing something obvious. I am trying to use our custom JUL logging library with Jetty. No matter where I put the JAR file for the custom logger, it is not found. I have tried the usual suspects; /lib/, /lib/ext/, /WEB-INF/lib/ and even manually added it to the classpath. 2011-06-29 15:27:34.518::INFO: Started [email protected]:8080 Can't load log handler "net.aw20.logshot.client.LogShotHandler" java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: net.aw20.logshot.client.LogShotHandler java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: net.aw20.logshot.client.LogShotHandler at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:217) I am starting up Jetty using "-jar start.jar" technique. Searching around, I have spotted a couple of threads that talk about this problem, but with no resolution. Or if there was, they didn't answer with their solution. Can anyone help on this front? • Assign multiple Emacs keybindings to a single command?

  I'm giving ErgoEmacs mode a try to see if I can use Emacs more comfortably. Some of its keybindings are fairly intuitive, but in many cases I don't want to outright replace the defaults. For example, in the context of ErgoEmacs' navigation shortcut structure, M-h makes sense as a replacement for C-a--but I want to be able to use both, not just M-h. • Fade animation UITableViewCell

  Hi everyone, I have a UITableViewController that populates a UITableView with some data that I pull off the net. The data for each cell consists also of an image used as background, which I'm downloading in a separated NSOperation added to a NSOperationQueue with a MaxConcurrentOperationCount set to 4. As long as the image is not downloaded I'm showing a generic placeholder which I would like to replace (fading out/fading in) with the downloaded image once it's being successfully downloaded. I'm using the following code placed inside the cellForRowAtIndexPath of the UITableViewController. [UIView beginAnimations:@"fade" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationBeginsFromCurrentState:YES]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:3.0]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut]; cell.placeholderUIImage.alpha = 0.0; cell.backgroundUIImage.alpha = 1.0; [UIView commitAnimations]; This is unfortunately just working randomly for a couple of rows, since for the most the background image is set instantly, as if the animation started on one cell would have been "overwritten" by the next call of beginAnimations.
