• how to change document root to public_html from root directory

  For testing I hosted my website on free server from 000webhost.com They have a directory structure:- (root folder) \ (public folder) \public_html this directory structure enables to keep all the library files in root folder and all public data in \public_html, so I developed my website accordingly, and my final structure looked like:- / /include(this folder contains library files) /logs(log files) /public_html /public_html/index.php /public_html/home.php /public_html/and other public files on 000webhost makes only public_folder available to be accessed via url and my url looked neat and clean like www.xample.com/index.php or www.example.com/home.php but after completion of development I moved website to shared host purchased from go-daddy.com, now they do not have any such kind of directory permission, all the files are kept in root folder and are accessible via url also url has become like:- www.example.com/public_html/home.php or www.example.com/public_html/index.php How should I redirect url request to public_html folder again so as to make library file unavailable to public access and make url neat and clean.

• Apple iOS Apps and caching at the edge proxy

  Our network contains a growing number of iOS devices, all of which with very similar configurations. All Internet access is via a transparent proxy. We've found that iOS updates and some free apps cache fine on the proxy, but any paid apps fail to cache properly (as they seem to be encrypted to the Apple ID (?)). I'm just wondering if there's any way forward with this where we could cache the paid apps so that they are purchased n times, but downloaded from the proxy cache instead of from the Internet each time. Bandwidth caps aside, the download direct from the Internet slows everything down for everyone, regardless of fairness queueing and related 'fixes'. I know this is quite unlikely, but I figured there's nothing to lose and everything to gain before I look into other solutions (eg, QoS).

• How to learn the math behind the code?

  I am a 12 year old who has recently gotten into programming. (Although I know that the number of books you have read does not determine your programming competency or ability, just to paint a "map" of where I am in terms of the content I know...) I've finished the books: Python 3 For Absolute Beginners Pro Python Python Standard Library by Example Beautiful Code Agile Web Development With Rails and am about halfway into Programming Ruby. I have written many small programs (One that finds which files have been updated and deleted in a directory, one that compares multiple players' fantasy baseball value, and some text based games, and many more). Obviously, as I'm not some sort of child prodigy, I can't take a formal Computer Science course until high school. I really want to learn computer science to increase my knowledge about the code, and the how the code runs. I've really become interested in the math part after reading the source code for Python's random module. Is there a place where I can learn CS, or programming math online for free, at a level that would be at least partially understandable to a person my age?

  I have been given 10 old eMAC computers to donate to a local primary school. I am a PC person but I have volunteered to set these up with some kind of office suite. The specs are: 700MHz G4 640MB RAM (should be enough for anyone!) OS-X 10.3 40GB hard disc with 30GB free space I'd like a recommendataion for an office suite that will work on these old boxes. I have tried Open Office, both the latest version and 2.4.3 for PPC with no luck. Yes, I do have X11 installed.

• The current state of a MERGE Destination for SSIS

  Hugo Tap asked me on Twitter earlier today whether or not there existed a SSIS Dataflow Destination component that enabled one to MERGE data into a table rather than INSERT it. Its a common request so I thought it might be useful to summarise the current state of play as regards a MERGE destination for SSIS. Firstly, there is no MERGE destination component in the box; that is, when you install SSIS no MERGE Destination will be available. That being said the SSIS team have made available a MERGE destination component via Codeplex which you can get from http://sqlsrvintegrationsrv.codeplex.com/releases/view/19048. I have never used it so cannot vouch for its usefulness although judging by some of the reviews you might not want to set your expectations too high. Your mileage may vary.   In the past it has occurred to me that a built-in way to provide MERGE from the SSIS pipeline would be highly valuable. I assume that this would have to be provided by the database into which you were merging hence in March 2010 I submitted the following two requests to Connect: BULK MERGE (111 votes at the time of writing) [SSIS] BULK MERGE Destination (15 votes) If you think these would be useful feel free to vote them up and add a comment. • Domain and TS migration

  The migration steps outlined by Microsoft in the ts migration seem to deal with moving TS to a different server on the same domain and call for adding the licensing service to another system, move the licenses and then put TS on whatever server you want. However with migrating the domain as well I don't have any place to move the TS server to. So my thought was to simply re-activate my licenses on the new server using the same method as a new TS setup. My question is essentially will this work the way I think it will or will the MS activation clearing house deny the new server? Is there a procedure to follow that "deactivates" the licenses on a server so that the clearing house knows there are some free? (FWIW I can look up the license information through the eopen website and have access to the original license doc.)

We're wondering if providing a music streaming server internally would help on bandwidth. How legal is that?   Tonight is the peak of the Geminid Meteor shower, if you don’t mind braving the cold and have a spot relatively free from light pollution to stretch out in you’ll be able to enjoy one of the more brilliant and busy meteor showers of the year. Sky and Telescope magazine reports on the Geminid Meteor shower: If it’s clear late Thursday night, December 13th, 2012, keep a lookout high overhead for the shooting stars of the Geminid meteor shower. The Geminids are usually one of the two best meteor showers of the year, often beating out the Perseids of August. And this year there’s no moonlight to interfere. Under a clear, dark sky, you may see at least one Geminid per minute on average from roughly 10 p.m. Thursday until dawn Friday morning.   I have some questions about my web server. Its a LAMP web server running centos 5.5 and php5, mysql5. The server gets hundreds (maybe thousand) of concurrent users during peak hours. I'm trying to optimize a little and understand "top". From what I can see: all 16GB of my ram have been used up? does that mean that my server needs more memory? My swap is only 2GB, should it be increased? usually during peak hours my server load average first number is about 2.5-3. What could I do to optimize the server so that the load average even during peak doesn't go above 1? In the past I was told a good working server should stay under 1 load, is this still true? • How to convert a MKV video to a less CPU intensive video format?

  I have a couple of videos at 1920x800 that use the MKV format (4.7 GB). A friend of mine has an old PC that has some problems playing them; the CPU is working at nearly 100%. Is it possible to convert these videos to a less CPU intensive video format? The final size is not a problem, it can also double or more.   I need to provide the recommended amount of RAM and disc space (divided in two partitions) so the customer can create an appropriate virtual machine to run Oracle. All I could find in the documentation was a brief listing with minimum RAM and typical/advanced install types. The virtual machine will run latest Oracle Standard Edition One (11g release 2 so far) under Windows Server 2008 x64 and will host a reasonably low traffic web application. How much RAM and disc must I ask for in order to be safe? (Feel free to ask for further details if I've omitted something relevant.) Update: Rough estimations: Database size: 10 MB after installation Growth rate: +3MB per day on average Size of database 'active' data: (not sure of what this means, there's not actual archive so I guess all data is current) Amount of data written per second in peak hours: a few KB Number of client sessions: 3 or 4 at most Frequency and response size of most heavy requests: some reports make heavy table JOINS that need up to 20 seconds to complete but they won't return more than a few thousand rows with plain text. The app also handles BLOBs (typical size from 50KB to 200KB)

• Video/Animated GIF advanced frame editor?

  What sort of application could I use for example if I had a 5 minute video or an animated GIF with 50 frames, and I wanted to basically Photoshop replace an object, say a person's head, with another image for all those 50 frames? Is there some sort of smart tool that can do this or do I have to edit every single frame by hand? I wouldn't mind there being a tool where I can paste the image in every frame automatically, and switch from frame to frame adjusting the position of it, I just need something efficient. I've tried using Photoshop's import video into image sequence and tried editing with the animation toolbar at the bottom, but it's not quite what I want. I don't care if it's free software or not, I'm primarily using Linux but I have VirtualBox Windows XP if there's an excellent application that's not available otherwise.

  Suppose a hacker launches a new Linux distro with firefox provided with it. Now a browser contains the certificates of the root certification authorities of PKI. Because firefox is a free browser anyone can package it with fake root certificates. Thus a fake root certificate would contain a the certification authority that is not actually certified. Can this be used to authenticate some websites. How? Many existing linux distros are mirrored by people. They can easily package software containing certificates that can lead to such attacks. Is the above possible? Has such an attack taken place before?
