  • High Tq values for HAProxy

    I just took over administration of a new environment. A known issue is that the environment is known for high response times (20+ seconds), so I figured I'd turn on haproxy logging and see what is going on. I figured I'd see slow load times in the app servers, but I'm actually seeing high Tq values in HAProxy. The HAProxy is on EC2 and is NOT behind ELB. Not all the Tq's are high (1+ seconds), but a good percentage of them are (approx 35%). Normally when I see this behavior, I'd expect there to be network issues, but this is an incredibly high percentage of visitors to be having an issue like this, so I'm wondering if anybody has seen this or have any hints on diagnosing if the issue could possibly be on this box?

  • Unable to configure DD-WRT SNMP monitoring with Zabbix

    Installed Zabbix on Ubuntu but not sure what setting I missed. Base on my concept, I would like to using SNMP to monitoring DD-WRT router which it using SNMP service. I did enable to SNMP service at DD-WRT router page. And also created a host at Zabbix with included DD-WRT template. After I done it I still unable to get any connection/information at Zabbix which mean the router doesn't communicate with Zabbix.   • Lighttpd 403 Errors on HTML and PHP pages

    I installed lighttpd on CentOS 5.5 64-bit. Everything seems fine and running except I cannot get past 403 errors on both HTML and PHP pages. I have used CHMOD and CHOWN, changed ownership in the config file, done everything possible and have been stuck for 2 days. Appreciate any help, and here's hoping to a stupid error on my part.     So, I'm a bit of an IIS7 n00b but I've used most of the old IIS systems going back to 3. I'm trying to turn on dynamic compression and it's working, mostly. It doesn't work for my ADO.Net Data Service (Astoria) requests, batched or not. I found the freb tracing which was really helpful. And what I come up with unbatched requests is that it returns Reason Code 12, NO_MATCHING_CONTENT_TYPE. OK, so I don't have the matching mime type specified, that's easy. And this suggestion http://alestic.com/2009/09/ec2-consistent-snapshot I tried using command line + crontab (the command line works, but crontab for some reason, doesn't) But I'm still pretty lost, all I want is an automated, rolling backup of my amazon EC2 (EBS) data (by rolling I mean keep 3-4 weeks back, but delete old snapshots as new ones come for cost control) And as things usually go, if there is something that is hard and painful, someone creates a solution for it. My question is simple, is there a way using a tool like Puppet to do it without a painful learning curve? (or via other tools like http://ylastic.com) If yes, how?

    Tomcat beginner question that I hope will help many. Could someone explain how TomCat hot deploy is supposed to work. We have a currently deployed 'TomCatTest', and we want to fix a small bug in 'TomCatTest' with no downtime for users. We are using the Tomcat Manager console, and just trying to upload a file there.   • Apache 301 redirect

    I have inherited a server with a couple of domains on it. The website was reworked within the last two years and I am trying to oblige a request by staff to get a redirect to work properly (if it can given the default structure). So right now on the server I have a redirect that takes every 301 and dumps it onto the front page of the website. RedirectMatch /(.) http://www.example.com This has worked well for most of the old URL's coming in from various websites containing the old liking structure. However, now a staff member wants a single URL which is somewhat widely used to be redirected to it's proper place. Redirect /new/research/Exp_Rese_Disc/Asia/example.shtml http://example.com/asia/ Is this possible without killing the all encompassing 301 redirect? To have a general RedirectMatch /(.) redirect as well as a singular redirect? As of right now it is not seeming to let me. Any ideas, thoughts or examples are much appreciated.

This error occurs with one DB2 database and not with another (I'm almost sure the problem is in DB2 server side configuration), and I didn't found the difference between the two databases.   • Using nginx + wordpress with all wordpress files in a subdirectory

    My setup I am running nginx 0.7.67 on Debian Lenny as a webserver, not as a reverse proxy. I am using php5-fpm to handle my PHP requests, which works fine. My aim I would like to have a wordpress installation that is layed out as described here clean wordpress subversion installation. I would like to have a clean wordpress installation without cluttering my server root directory with all the wordpress files. That means that my wordpress installation would be in /wordpress and my themes and plugins inside /wordpress-content. The important point however is that if you navigate to my domain www.example.com then you would be taken directly to the wordpress blog, without having to specify the subdirectory where wordpress lives. I found a how-to at the nginx site installing wordpress but unfortunately this is for moving the entire wordpress directory instead of redirecting the traffic to it.   • Windows XP update not working

    I have a problem with XP updating. It hangs when I try to search for updates on the website. But the automatic updates still work. And it's running IE6, so I'm trying to update to IE8, hoping that will fix the problems with the website. But when installing IE8 it just hangs at Installing Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP And if I try to install it manually, it hangs when installing the updates for IE8. So looking at these logs, is there anything going wrong with the update process?     I have an Hudson build working on IIS 6.0 with reverse proxy (IIRF). In general it works but 2 errors are displayed in Hudson in the main configuration page called "Manage Hudson" (only if I connect through the reverse proxy): Your container doesn't use UTF-8 to decode URLs. If you use non-ASCII characters as a job name etc, this will cause problems. See Containers and Tomcat i18n for more details.     We're currently using Ubuntu 10.04 and based on the PCI Compliance results, we're told to upgrade our OpenSSL. I attempted to do this using this reference: http://sandilands.info/sgordon/upgrade-latest-version-openssl-on-ubuntu and http://www.lunarforums.com/dedicated_web_hosting_at_lunarpages/upgrading_openssl-t35015.0.html Unfortunately, they didn't work for me. And when I attempted to remove the old version prior to installation, it looks like it broke a few thins in the system. The article from Steve Gordon seemed like it would work for me, but when I ran the openssl version command, it still read that it was the old version. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what I should do. Fix: After following the steps from Steven Gordon, make sure you restart apache and / or restart your computer (I did both, but I'm sure a simple restart will fix it right up).

  • Hardware selection for Linux machine

    Hi, I am building a new box, and planning to install Ubuntu 9-04 or Ubuntu 9-10 on it. I am wary of the hardware selection because in the past I struggled with lack of drivers or driver incompatibility with the network card and video card, etc. The last time I built a Linux box was 2007, and I have not kept up to date with the changes since. One notable difference is that I can no longer find motherboards with nVidia chip sets.     So I'm trying to just hash some passwords in postgresql, and the only hashing solution that I've found for postgresql is part of the pgcrytpo package ( http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.3/static/pgcrypto.html ) that is supposed to be in postgresql-contrib ( http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.3/static/contrib.html ). So I installed postgresql-contrib, (sudo apt-get install postgresql-contrib), restarted my server (as a simple way to restart postgresql). However, I still don't have access to any of the functions for hashing that are supposed to be in postgresql-contrib, e.g.: ninjawars=# select crypt('global salt' || 'new password' || 'user created date', gen_salt('sha256')); ERROR: function gen_salt(unknown) does not exist ninjawars=# select digest('test', 'sha256') from players limit 1; ERROR: function digest(unknown, unknown) does not exist ninjawars=# select hmac('test', 'sha256') from players limit 1; ERROR: function hmac(unknown, unknown) does not exist So how can I hash passwords in postgresql, on ubuntu?

  • Why does my motherboard go through an endless reboot cycle when 8 GB of memory is attempted vs 6 GB?

    I never got an answer in my googling to this about a year ago and have an extra stick of memory I'd like to be able to use. When is inserted the computer starts, and then reboots immediately in an endless reboot cycle. As soon as the 4th stick is removed, the computer works fine. Right now I have 6 GB of my 8 GB installed. Is there a solution that I am missing to enabling this motherboard to actually boot up with all 8 GB (it supports it). Right now it won't even boot up to BIOS with the 4 sticks... only 3?   • xcopy and timeouts

    Related to this question and this answer http://serverfault.com/questions/48839/backup-on-disc-using-truecrypt-corruption-problem/50829#50829 I want to copy the backup to my HD. However the timeout seems to be a problem. I see many single files then i see File creation error - Data error (cyclic redundancy check). and its currently trying to copy the next file. When i click my computer i see nothing and it also locks up for some seconds (30 maybe) So TrueCrypt is not a good solution if i must be able to copy files back from a volume with a corrupted sector? (answer in other thread please). Is there any way for me to change the timeout?     I've updated my question to coincide with my progress I am attempting to configure WAMP on my development machine. I would like to use it in conjunction with DD-WRT's DNSMasq feature to access multiple virtual hosts via aliases (dev1.local,dev2.local,etc.) over my local wireless network. For simplicity sake I'd still like to setup DNSMasq to connect via aliases. I have followed the following tutorial http://www.question-defense.com/2008/12/29/add-static-dns-entries-to-dd-wrt-router-firmware And the aliases load on my development machine, but I can not access via the aliases on my mobile devices connected to the local network. I can however access via IPs. Thanks for any help you can provide

    I have a small LAN of some 30 users in it with proxy auto configuration enabled and working. Two of them are requesting wpad.dat file too rapidly at a pace of 30 times per second. 10.1.14.246 - - [02/Jun/2014:09:07:18 +0200] "GET /wpad.dat HTTP/1.1" 302 302 10.1.14.141 - - [02/Jun/2014:09:07:18 +0200] "GET /wpad.dat HTTP/1.1" 302 302 I don't know whether this is a problem from performance perspective, (the server is powerful enough to handle this) but the problem is it clogs up the access_log file. It grows about 1GB per week. Clients run Win7Pro. What could cause this behavior? What can be done to stop it? I have shortened log rotate window as a temporary workaround to prevent /var fill up. Thanks beforehand for your support.
