• ansi-c fscanf problem

  hi i read the file as follows fscanf(fp,"%f %f %f",&*(p1+i), &*(p2+i), &*(p3+i)); my file's lines consists of three floating point numbers... the problem i have is that in the file let's say i have some floating points with let's say maximum of two digits after the dot. but when i ask c to print those values using different formatting, for example %lf,%.2lf,%.4lf... it starts to play with the digits... my only concern is this, if i have let's say 1343.23 in the file, then will c use this value exactly as it is in computations or it will play with the digits after the dot. if it will play, then how is it possible to make it so that it uses floating point numbers exactly as they are? for example in last case even if i ask it to print that value using %.10lf i would expect it to print only 1343.2300000000.? thanks a lot!

  I guess this would be a DevExpress mask, but here is what I have: var dlEdit = new DevExpress.XtraEditors.Repository.RepositoryItemTextEdit(); dlEdit.Mask.MaskType = MaskType.RegEx; dlEdit.Mask.EditMask = "\\d{1,10}"; I'm trying to get a number that can be up to 10 digits in length that WILL accept leading 0's, as it is now it will show the leading 0's (ex. 0032421243) until the field is clicked off in which case it removes them. I tried a numeric masktype but same thing only it wouldn't let me enter the 0's to start with at all. I thought this would be my answer but this custom type isn't. Can someone point me in the right direction for what I need? Maybe a different type of mask or something?

  I have been asked to research the advantages/disadvantages the two application servers, but am new to the space and am having a terrible time finding an unbiased comparison of the two platforms. I understand that this is a broad question and I hate that I can't give a very specific use case (other than it will be an implementation in an organization with out a full time admin dedicated to management and it will be running in a mixed environment against JD Edwards/Oracle and SQLServer). Does anyone know of any (recently published) content that does a reasonable comparison or can any offer any insight into which might be the better choice and why. • Visual Studio 2008 macro only works from the Macro IDE, not the Macro Explorer

  Edit: Creating a new module in the same VSMacros project fixed the problem. The following macro only works if I open the Macro IDE from Visual Studio and run the macro from there. It'd be much more useful if I could just right click the macro from the Macro Explorer from my Visual Studio instance. I must be doing something obviously wrong, but I've never worked with VS macros before. The MessageBox does not appear in either case. • Missing Java error on conditional expression?

  With methods test1() and test2(), I get a Type Mismatch Error: Cannot convert from null to int, which is correct; but why am I not getting the same in method test3()? How does Java evaluates the conditional expression differently in that case? (obviusly, a NullPointerException will rise in runtime). • Best approch for creating Base control

  Hi, I am looking for a solution for this scenario - I need to implement a feature to allow user to add various controls to canvas(WPF, custom and third party ) and then select any one of them and modify some properties in property grid(changes needs to be reflected in UI). I don't want to expose all the properties of any control only some of them(relevant to end user); apart from this there are some properties which will be common for all controls e.g. Title, Value(Value will be bound to some property of a control, say Text of TextBox and Content of Label) etc. I am thinking of putting all the common proeprties at one place. Things I am confused aout - How to create such base class, whether to use UserControl or Custom Control for this? How will the binding work between Control, base class proeprties and PropertyGrid? What type of object will I expose to property grid? Any idea on what approch should be followed in this case, any kind of input will really be helpful.

• Saving State Dynamic UserControls...Help!

  I have page with a LinkButton on it that when clicked, I'd like to add a Usercontrol to the page. I need to be able to add/remove as many controls as the user would like. The Usercontrol consists of three dropdownlists. The first dropdownlist has it's auotpostback property set to true and hooks up the OnSelectedIndexChanged event that when fired will load the remaining two dropdownlists with the appropriate values. My problem is that no matter where I put the code in the host page, the usercontrol is not being loaded properly. I know I have to recreate the usercontrols on every postback and I've created a method that is being executed in the hosting pages OnPreInit method. I'm still getting the following error: The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases.   Okay so I am having this problem. I write up a script to be run in cygwin on Windows. I've tried a bunch of basic example scripts in case it was my scripts problem. I am trying to work on a project for my class, but I can't seem to figure out why it won't read it. I followed the book with no triumph then resorted to these examples on the web that do not seem to work for me either. • Difference between implementing an interface and applying an attribute in C#

  This might be a stupid question but Ill ask anyway, I was reading "OOP Demystified: A Self-Teaching Guide by Jim Keogh and Mario Giannini" chapter 11 which covers interfaces. The examples in this book are C++. I noticed that C++ uses ISerializable to make a class serializable which you would implement where as in C# you just attribute the class with the [Serializable] attribute. What is the key difference here? Is it that with an interface you must provide the implementation where as if you attribute something the compiler will work out the implementation for you? I guess that with the [Serializable] attribute the .Net framework uses reflection to make the serialized object from the actual object. That said is it possible in that case to have an [Disposable] attribute or using my theory above the framework wont know how to actually dispose of an object hence you have to do it yourself? Would be grateful for a clarification. Thanks.

I am using the following statement: INSERT INTO LOCAL.TABLE_1 ( COL1, COL2) SELECT COL1, COL2 FROM REMOTE.TABLE1@dblink s WHERE COL1 IN ( SELECT COL1 FROM WORKING_TABLE) When I run the statement the following is what gets run against the remote server on the DB Link: SELECT /*+ OPAQUE_TRANSFORM */ "COL1", "COL2" FROM "REMOTE"."TABLE1" "S" If I run the select only and do not do the insert into the following is run: SELECT /*+ */ "A1"."COL1" , "A1"."COL2" FROM "REMOTE"."TABLE1" "A1" WHERE "A1"."COL1" = ANY ( SELECT "A2"."COL1" FROM "LOCAL"."TABLE1"@! "A2") The issue is in the insert case the enitre table is being pulled across the dblink and then limited localy which takes a fair bit of time given the table size. Is there any reason adding the insert would change the behavior in this manner?

  I'm looking for a MySQL equivalent of what str_replace is for PHP. I want to replace all instances of one word with another, I want to run a query that will replace all "apples" with "oranges". The reason why: UPDATE fruits SET name='oranges' WHERE name='apples'; isn't going to work for my situation, is because I often times have multiple words in a table row separated by commas like: "apples, pears, pineapples". In this case I want just apples to be replaced by oranges and pear and pineapples to stay in tact. Is there any way to do this?

  I am trying to persist an Entity with a @Lob annotated String field. The content of that fiels if bigger than the 40k buffer size limit. The first problem I had was related to the setString method used internally by the JPA implementation (Hibernate in my case) and the Oracle JDBC Driver. This problem was solved adding <property name="hibernate.connection.SetBigStringTryClob" value="true"/> to my persistence.xml file. Then, the error changed to a ORA-22835 error (the buffer is too small). ¿Is there any way that JPA solves this problem without going to a low-level implementation? ¿Any suggestions?

I imagine it first sends the commands to the databases and then waits for the databases to respond before sending them a message to apply the command sent earlier. However when execution is stopped abruptly when sending those apply messages we could still end up with a database that has applied the command and one that has not. Can anyone shed some light on this? Edit: I guess what Im asking is can I rely on TransactionScope to guarantee data integrity when writing to multiple databases in case of a power outage or a sudden shutdown.   That is, in Mercurial, if Peter cloned from me by hg clone c:\mycode into his e:\code let's say there is a file code.txt and it contains the text the code is 7 Now, when I change it to the code is 11 and hg commit, then he can get my code using hg pull and hg update. Now his version says the code is 11 But if I decide the change was wrong and hg rollback, then my repository should have the 7 version, while the working directory should have the 11 version. So when Peter does an hg pull and hg update, he should be sync'ed up to my current repository, which is the 7, but I found that it is not the case -- he still gets the 11 version. Why is that? Can he get the rolled back code (the 7)? Does Git behave the same way too?

• Why Do Browsers Leak Memory?

  A colleague and I were speaking about browsers (using browser control in a project), and it appears as plain as day that all browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE, Opera) display the same characteristic or side-effect from their usage and that being 'Leaking Memory'. Can someone explain why that is the case? Surely as with any form of code, there should be proper garbage collection? PS. I've read about some defensive patterns on why this can happen from a developer's perspective. I am aware of an article Crockford wrote on IE; but why is the problem symptomatic of every browser?
