  MySQL is one of the most popular database language and I have been recently working with it a lot. Data have no barrier and every database have their own place. I have been working with MySQL for quite a while and just like SQL Server, I often find lots of people asking me if I have a tutorial which can teach them MySQL from the beginning. • 12.04 Unity 3D Not working where as Unity 2D works fine

  I updated from 11.10 to 12.04 using the distribution upgrade, after that I couldn't log into using the Unity 3D desktop after logging in I would either never get unity's launcher or I would get the launcher and once I tried to do anything the windows lost their decoration and nothing would respond. If I use Unity 2D it works fine and in fact I'm using it to type this. • How To Disable Control Panel in Windows 7

  If you have a shared computer that your family and friends can access, you might not want them to mess around in the Control Panel, and luckily with a simple tweak you can disable it. Disable Control Panel with Group Policy Note: This process uses Local Group Policy Editor which is not available in Home versions of Windows 7. Skip down below for the registry hack version that works on Home editions as well. First type gpedit.msc into the Search box in the Start menu and hit Enter. When Local Group Policy Editor opens, navigate to User Configuration \ Administrative Templates then select Control Panel in the left Column. In the right column double-click on Prohibit access to the Control Panel. In the next window, select Enable, click OK, then close out of Local Group Policy Editor. After the Control Panel is disabled, you’ll notice it’s no longer listed in the Start Menu. If the user tries to type Control Panel into the Search box in the Start menu, they will get the following message indicating it’s restricted. Disable Control Panel with a Registry Tweak You can also tweak the Registry to disable Control Panel. This will work with all versions of Windows 7, Vista, and XP. Making changes in the Registry is not recommended for beginners and you should create a Restore Point, or backup the Registry before making any changes. Type regedit into the Search box in the Start menu and hit Enter. In Registry Editor navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer. Then right-click in the right pane and create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name the value NoControlPanel. Then right-click on the new Value and click Modify…   In the Value data field change the value to “1” then click OK. Close out of Registry Editor and restart the machine to complete the process. When you get back from reboot, you’ll notice Control Panel is no longer listed in the Start menu. If a user tries to access it by typing Control Panel into the Search box in the Start menu… They will get the following message indicating it is restricted, just like if you were to disable it via Group Policy. If you want to re-enable the Control Panel, go back into the Registry and change the NoControlPanel value back to “0” then reboot the computer. This comes in handy if you have inexperienced users working on your machine and don’t want them messing with Control Panel settings. • Wired PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse do not work in 12.04 Live CD or after fresh 12.04 install - Foxconn D270S Atom Motherboard

  My Wired PS/2 keyboard and mouse do not work in 12.04, either in a fresh install or from the Live CD. A USB keyboard and mouse will work. The PS/2 keyboard and mouse will work using the same hardware and a fresh 10.04 Ubuntu install or a fresh Windows 7 install. The motherboard is a Foxconn D270S Atom based motherboard. This problem is specific to this motherboard and Ubuntu 12.04. So far I've tried running in the fresh 12.04 install: sudo apt-get install sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade After the apt-get upgraded the first time, I now get to the point where there are 0 items to be upgraded. Rebooted and still no PS/2 keyboard/mouse. I've also tried adding the following lines to GRUB at boot time (the PS/2 keyboard works in GRUB) acpi=noirq acpi=off Neither setting made any difference. The motherboard is a Foxconn D270S Atom based motherboard. Even more interestingly, 12.04 recognizes the same PS/2 keyboard and mouse on a separate Gigabyte AM3+ based motherboard. I only have this problem on this particular motherboard with Ubuntu 12.04. Any help would be appreciated. I bought this low-power motherboard specifically for the task of running Ubuntu 12.04 for the next five years... Update... I dug out an old PS/2 mouse that does not use a PS/2 to USB adapter but is directly wired for PS/2. Still no PS/2 keyboard or mouse after reboot. Again, I only have this problem with this motherboard and 12.04 Ubuntu. Other motherboards work fine with 12.04 and this motherboard works fine with 10.04. Update 2... I installed the 12.04 Server version. The text-based installer recognized the keyboard without issue, but after the first boot into the installed OS, the PS/2 keyboard would no longer respond. I tried installing Gnome on the Server install and the PS/2 mouse and keyboard don't work in Gnome either. I Opened bug #995570 for this issue

• ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM Unit Tests not compiling

  I found something weird this time when it came to ASP.NET MVC 2 release. A very handful of people ‘made noise’ about the release.. at least on the asp.net blog site, usually there’s a big ‘WOOHAA… <something> is released’, kind of a thing. Hmm… but here’s the reason I’m writing this post. I’m not sure how many of you read the release notes before downloading the version.. I did, I did, I did. Now there’s a ‘Known issues’ section in the document and I’m quoting the text as is from this section: Unit test project does not contain reference to ASP.NET MVC 2 project: If the Solution Explorer window is hidden in Visual Studio, when you create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 Web application project and you select the option Yes, create a unit test project in the Create Unit Test Project dialog box, the unit test project is created but does not have a reference to the associated ASP.NET MVC 2 project. When you build the solution, Visual Studio will display compilation errors and the unit tests will not run. There are two workarounds. The first workaround is to make sure that the Solution Explorer is displayed when you create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 Web application project. If you prefer to keep Solution Explorer hidden, the second workaround is to manually add a project reference from the unit test project to the ASP.NET MVC 2 project. This definitely looks like a bug to me and see below for a visual: At the top right corner you’ll see that the Solution Explorer is set to auto hide and there’s no reference for the TestMvc2 project and that is the reason we get compilation errors without even writing a single line of code. Last year they were affected by a virus that destroyed the registry and all their RAC environments were "OUT OF ORDER", the result, thousand people on vacation for a day.They were distrustful about Linux and after came an agreement to migrate their Enterprise Manager from Windows to Linux (OMS and Repository).   There are currently two packages tagged on the Umbraco forum that can be used to add a twitter feed to your website. • ASP.NET Connections Fall 2011 Slides and Code

  Thanks everyone who came to my talks at ASP.NET Connections in Las Vegas!  There was a definite theme to my talks this year…taking advantage of JavaScript to build a rich presentation layer. I gave the following three talks: JsRender Templates – Originally, I was scheduled to give a talk on jQuery Templates.  However, jQuery Templates has been deprecated and JsRender is the new technology which replaces jQuery Templates. In the talk, I give plenty of code samples of using JsRender.  You can download the slides and code samples RIGHT HERE   HTML5 – In this talk, I focused on the features of HTML5 which are the most interesting to developers building database-driven Web applications. In particular, I discussed Web Sockets,  Web workers, Web Storage, Indexed DB, and the Offline Application Cache. All of these features are supported by Safari, Chrome, and Firefox today and they will be supported by Internet Explorer 10. • What code smell best describes this code?

  Suppose you have this code in a class: private DataContext _context; public Customer[] GetCustomers() { GetContext(); return _context.Customers.ToArray(); } public Order[] GetOrders() { GetContext(); return _context.Customers.ToArray(); } // For the sake of this example, a new DataContext is *required* // for every public method call private void GetContext() { if (_context != null) { _context.Dispose(); } _context = new DataContext(); } This code isn't thread-safe - if two calls to GetOrders/GetCustomers are made at the same time from different threads, they may end up using the same context, or the context could be disposed while being used. Even if this bug didn't exist, however, it still "smells" like bad code. A much better design would be for GetContext to always return a new instance of DataContext and to get rid of the private field, and to dispose of the instance when done. Changing from an inappropriate private field to a local variable feels like a better solution. I've looked over the code smell lists and can't find one that describes this. In the past I've thought of it as temporal coupling, but the Wikipedia description suggests that's not the term: Temporal coupling When two actions are bundled together into one module just because they happen to occur at the same time. This page discusses temporal coupling, but the example is the public API of a class, while my question is about the internal design. Does this smell have a name? Or is it simply "buggy code"?

• No HDMI Audio with GeForce 9600GT and nForce board

  I've been trying to get HDMI with sound working for the last few days, and I'm a little bit out of ideas. • Crop, Edit, and Print Photos in Windows 7 Media Center

  Windows Media Center is a nice application for managing and displaying your personal photos, but you may occasionally need to make some basic edits to your pictures. Today we’ll take a look at how to crop, edit, and print photos right from Windows 7 Media Center. From within the Picture Library in Windows Media Center, choose a photo to work with, right-click and select Picture Details. You can also access this option with a Media Center remote by clicking the “i” button. Note: You’ll notice you have the option to rotate the picture from this menu. It is also available on the next screen.  Rotate a picture Now you’ll see more options on the Picture Details screen. From here you can rotate, Print, or Touch Up, Delete, or Burn a CD/DVD. To rotate the picture, simple select Rotate. Note: If you want your photo saved with the new orientation, you’ll need to select Save from the Touch Up screen that we will look at later in the article.   Each click will rotate the picture 90 degrees clockwise. You’ll see the new orientation of the picture displayed on the Picture Details screen after you have clicked Rotate. Print a picture From the Picture Details screen, select Print. Click Print again. Media Center automatically prints to your default printer, so make sure your desired target printer is set as default. Crop and Edit Photos To edit or crop your photo, select Touch Up. Touch Up options includes, Crop, Contrast, and Red Eye removal. First, we’ll select the Crop button to crop our photo.   You will see a cropping area overlay appear on your photo. Select one of the buttons below to adjust the location, size, and orientation of the area to be cropped. When you’re happy with your selection, click Save. You’ll be prompted to confirm your save. Click Yes to permanently save your edits. You can also apply Contrast or Red Eye adjustments to your photos. There aren’t any advanced settings for these options. You merely toggle the Contrast or Red Eye on or off by selecting the option. Be sure to click Save before exiting to if you’ve made any changes you wish to permanently apply to the photos. This includes rotating the images. While this method is not likely to be replace your favorite image editing software, it does give you the ability to make basic edits and print photos directly from Windows Media Center. With a Media Center remote, you can even do all your edits from the comfort of your recliner. • Best of "The Moth" 2009

  Not wanting to break the tradition (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) below are some blog posts I picked from my blogging last year. • What if &ldquo;Microsoft&rdquo; were in our shoes? About Windows Phone

  This is what I think about Microsoft Windows Phone. If Microsoft were in our shoes looking at various phones available their configurations, memory, front facing cameras etc. Microsoft disappointed the USA customer base again by not getting Nokia Lumia 800. The Past: If we talk few years ago, few business people were on their Blackberry’s and few Gadget lovers were on crappy Windows OS devices. The world was all going right till Apple came with a revolutionary device iPhone, which completely changed our perception towards phone and how great a smartphone can be. It’s not just phone but the whole technology industry. The romantic appealing of the phone and smooth touch and feel of it made everyone to get one of those bad boys. The sales went up for not just Apple for AT&T too. Even though everyone complained about the signal strength of AT&T, everyone wanted to be on it because they have iPhones. All world wanted iPhone back then except Microsoft with few comments on how it is not going to be in market. But it did great and rocked the industry. A few years later with iPhone and Android taking over the smartphone market Microsoft realized that it should be in the game too. Worked on the design of it, and gave us the best Mobile OS ever. Everyone thinks that iOS is a great OS for phones but if you have touched a Windows Phone and use it for real then you will realize the strengths of it. so last year we welcomed Windows Phone 7 The Present : Windows Phone 7 has the fastest growing market. The phones are cheap, you can buy from any carrier out there. The phone became smarter and smarter with the recent update “Mango (7.5)” and with the collaboration with Nokia, Microsoft created a new eco-system for smartphones with the best smartphone hardware and best smartphone software. Everyone in the world was excited about the collaboration. As we fly over cloud 9 imagining about Nokia made Windows Phones we all heard a good news from Nokia “Nokia World”. Nokia showed the world what a best hardware making company can do with Windows Phone 7.5 OS. Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 took the spotlight. Everyone here in USA and all over the world wanted to own a Nokia Lumia 800 because of the design, software, proprietary apps from Nokia (maps, ESPN, drive and music). If USA market had Nokia Lumia 800, then it would have been the best step Microsoft and Nokia had ever made in their history of smartphone market. With all the numbers going to Android and IPhone, its not clear on why Microsoft/Nokia did not release Lumia 800 here in USA. Its unclear if Microsoft had learnt the lesson or not. if it had learnt the lesson I guess Microsoft needs to get the Nokia Lumia 800 to the USA. The Future: This is where we hope we get the best form Microsoft. I was an iPhone user, I used 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4 and then moved to Windows Phone and never felt so happy with my iPhones’. From the day when Nokia announced the partnership with Microsoft and said that they going to come up with a new Nokia windows phone, I was dreaming for my Nokia Phone. but looks like it is not going to happen any time soon. My thoughts about the Market :  Nokia has the biggest market base in the world. Even though people moved to Android or iPhone over the years in other parts of the world like India and China, people still love to use Nokia. Everyone who uses a Windows Phone now will wait for that day when Nokia Lumia comes to the USA but what either or both of the companies should do for a better market share is to make a very aggressive move with the hardware and bet on the devices. I am pretty sure that it will work. everyone here in the USA will like to have a dual core windows phone with front facing camera and all other crazy things that android/apple phones offer.
