  • Delays in .net app when connecting to oracle db using Oracle.DataAccess

    I have a .net desktop app that connects to an oracle database. At times, there are very noticable delays. I ran a trace on the code, and it was always in the DataReader.Read(). I turned on sql tracing, and found the following, which corresponds to the delays I'm seeing: (2128) [23-MAR-2010 13:00:07:310] nsprecv: reading from transport... (2128) [23-MAR-2010 13:00:07:310] nttrd: entry (2128) [23-MAR-2010 13:00:24:655] nttrd: socket 676 had bytes read=2047 (2128) [23-MAR-2010 13:00:24:655] nttrd: exit (2128) [23-MAR-2010 13:00:24:655] nsprecv: 2047 bytes from transport There's about a 14 second pause in there. I'm pretty sure that there's not a problem in the code, but not sure where to look at next. Is there anyone out there with experience with oracle trace that can explain what's going on?

  • Is it possible to maintain the url while redirecting to a classic asp page from a controller?

    While migrating a site from a classic asp to MVC, I'm having the problem that not all controllers are implemented yet. For those which are not implemented, I'd like to serve the classic asp page (say /product.asp?id=123) while maintaining the nice url /product/123. To accomplish this I implemented a dummy ProductController which returns a RedirectResult to the classic asp url. But that changes the url in the browsers navigation bar. Requirement has it, that the urls should always be a clean (mvc) one, eventhough the page has not yet been fully migrated. If this can't be done using a dummy controller, what would be an alternative option to solve this problem? Thanks in advance!

Ever since I read that for loop works faster than foreach a long time ago I assumed it stood true for all collections, generic collection all arrays etc. I scoured google and found few articles but most of them are inconclusive (read comments on the articles) and open ended.     Hi, I have what would seem like a common problem, but I cannot find an appropriate solution on any forums. I need to FTP an entire directory structure using .NET. I have found several code examples all of which show how you can FTP a single file by creating an FtpWebRequest object. Unfortunately, there is no information on how to deal with several files. Do I simply create a FtpWebRequest object for every single file? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Help with porting thread functionality: Win32 --> .Net

    Hi, I am responsible for porting a class from legacy Win32 code to .Net and I have come across a threading model that I'm not sure how best to implement in .Net. Basically the Win32 has one worker thread, which calls WaitForMultipleObjects() and executes the particular piece of code when a particular object has been triggered. This has a sort of first-come-first-serve effect that I need to emulate in my own code. But I'm not sure how best to do this in .Net. Does anyone have any idea? I see that there is no equivalent of WaitForMultipleObjects() in .Net, only the ThreadPool class, which seems to provide most of what I need, but I'm not sure if it's the best, since I only have four objects total to wait and execute code for.   • Warn user of .NET Framework requirements

    So I have an app (tool) that uses .NET 3.0. When run on a machine that only has .NET 2.0 (like the default Server 2008 R2 install) it crashes miserably. What I've seen so far is that people are using a shunt that will first check the .NET version. Is there a way to build it or add some manifest somehow so that the user is warned of this problem (and hopefully be prompted to install .NET)? I know this can be solved by an installer, but I have requirements that need it to be a standalone executable.

  • DLL configuration file in asp.net site

    Hi, I've made a .net 2.0 librabry project, that results in a dll. I've made an app.config file in my project, with settings used in the dll, with the intention that they can be changed later. I'm attempting to use the dll in an asp.net web application now, so I made the reference to my other project's output, and I see that the dll is copied over to the site's bin folder, and everything works. However, the configuration file is not copied. When I manually copy the app.config and rename it to myDll.config, it has no influence.     I am currently investigating whether to build a windows application using unmanaged C/C++ or in .NET and would like to know of the kind of performance and responsiveness that is capable with a managed C#/.NET GUI app? Not surprisingly it looks like the fastest most responsive applications (e.g. chrome, spotify, etc) are written in unmanaged C/C++.   • Processing SMTP bounces with .net

    Am looking for examples specific to .net/mvc and servers native WinServer08 where problem being addressed is processing a bounced smtp msg so as to bind to an estore transaction and updating account/profile properties. Reading the related questions i find an interesting reference to [VERP]2. Under the heading 'Software that supports VERP i find that IIS is not on the list. Does that mean i need to find a library to integrate into my store's assembly? What resources do I have to pull together to make sure that the webapp is informed when mail bounces? fwiw - i'm working with a very low volume site.
