• Installing gcc on AIX 5.3

  we have a development AIX 5.3 on PowerPC CPU having the standard CC compiler. I downloaded the gcc 4.2.4, unpacked it and tried to install it seems there is something missing; untar takes around 15 minutes and ends with an error trying to create a directory starting with @ sign. and in the gcc folder itself, I can't find a configure or a Makefile to install any hint on how to do so?

  On Windows Server 2008, is there an easy way to modify security permissions for multiple files at once (as with Windows Server 2003)? Right-click menu - properties does not provide a "Security" tab if more than one file/directory is selected (i.e. ctrl-click multiple files). Is there really a valid security reason for changing this in Windows Server 2008?

• MySQL Master-Master replication generating thousands of log files

  Today, I checked the /var/lib/mysql/ directory of a server in a master-master replication setup and noticed there were about 3,600 slave-relay.00xxxx files in there (where "xxxx" is an incrementing integer). They appear to be binary log files and don't take up much space (only about 42K), but are they an indication that something is wrong? They range in date from August until today with about 25 per day. • Windows XP SP3 client printer error over AD

  I have Windows Server 2008r2 and a Windows XP SP3 client machine in Active Directory. My problem is that I've installed the printer on the windows server and shared it, the permissions are right, but when i try to connect to that printer from the windows xp client, it throws the following errer: "You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer". Again, the permissions are right. I think I'm missing something that I couldn't find on the web. :( please help!

• Create a zip file that doesn't create a folder when opened, Mac OS X

  I am wondering if there is any way of easily creating a zip file that contains a bunch of files. However, when I double-click to open this zip file, I do not want it to create a subdirectory with the same name as the zip file, I just want all of the files to be extracted into the directory where the zip files is stored. Is there a certain flag I can add in terminal to do this, or any program that does this. Thanks for your help!

• How to record a "macro" that saves web pages as PDF in OSX

  I frequently save pages as PDF from Chrome on OSX. The page is apple-P then click the PDF button and the "Save as PDF.." menu item. I always use the pre-filled filename and save in the default directory. Is it possible to save this as an automator script? If that is possible I woulld sure like to add this as a button on Chrome somewhere so I can just "save this for reading later" Thanks for any help.

• Helicon ISAPI_REWRITE for masking folder

  Hello, I would like to use the ISAPI_REWRITE module to rewrite a url: www.site.com/app/ to www.site.com So that the user doesn't see the folder where the application is... the reason why isn't important, but essentially I need to mask this folder due to an IIS structure change. Any help would be appreciated. I need to remap any requested file in the app directory and any related subdirectory to the main URL. Thanks.

That is, the puppet manifest is in my Vagrant directory on the host machine, and vagrant is invoking puppet -- there is no puppet server. The thing is, my workflow is: while(not working as desired) { vagrant destroy amend manifest vagrant up } ... and this means quite a lot of waiting around. What's a better way to work?

• Lock ups, crashing, transferring files using TrueCrypt with iSCSI

  I have looked into this error and it seems that it hasn't been discussed yet - or at least I can't find any information relating. I'm having issues transferring files, usually larger files over a couple of hundred MB. Here is the setup: QNAP 410 as iSCSI Target with multiple LUNs. (CRC is turned on (Data Digest and Header Digest) Server 2003 with iSCSI Initiator version 2.08 - build 3825 (I'm copying files from anothe machine to shares on Server 2003 = into TrueCrypt volume ergo onto the NAS) I have mounted the LUN and formatted it with TrueCrypt using NTFS (Full format, not a quick one). What happens is some files, mainly RAR/Compressed files, appear as if they copy but fail. I've tested this in a number of ways and can repeat the process every time. So I thought to check transfer over iSCSI without TrueCrypt in between, a plain NTFS format - no problem at all. So it would seem TrueCrypt is at least part of the problem here. I haven't tried copying directly from the server yet, I will try that. I also haven't tried it without CRC but fail to see how that would affect this. I will update with my findings later. In the meantime does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? Thanks for your time. Update: I copied a set of files, the ones I was having issues with, to the server then from there I copied those into two places within the TrueCrypt volume (Mounted on the NAS). A seperate directory create in the root of the volume The same initial directory I was using in the first instance Both worked fine. So it now seems clear that this is a link between TrueCrypt, iSCSI and Windows Shares. I say this because I originally setup the whole system using TrueCrypt volume files, not iSCSI. I changed it as it didn't suit my requirements - day wasted as well. While I had this setup though I copied my entire file set to the volume files and all files copied without error - over the network, from a pc, to the server where TrueCrypt had the volume files mounted from the NAS. I didn't bother turning off CRC on the iSCSI system as I highly doubt that is the cause in light of this finding. So any ideas?

• How to install grub into an .img file?

  I did the following: created an empty .img file with dd associated it to /dev/loop0 with losetup created a partition in it with fdisk formatted such partition with mke2fs copied a custom GNU/Linux system into that partition Now I'd like to make the .img file bootable by installing grub into its MBR and /boot directory. My goal is to load the .img file with qemu. It would be better if grub2 is used instead of grub legacy. Thanks.

  I am trying to install the ATLAS BLAS library which recommends that I turn if CPU throttling to do the install. How do I check if my CPU throttling is ON or OFF? I tried the suggestion of Code: ./cpufreq-selector -g performance in the /usr/bin directory as suggested elsewhere in the forum but there was no output and the control returned back to the user.   As the title reads, I'm about to download and install URL Rewrite Go Live extension on my Windows Server 2008 R2 dedicated server, and I need to find out which version of URL Rewrite I should be downloading, x64 or x86. The information that came with the server when I started to rent it said it was 64-bit but when I look at my C: directory I have two Program Files directories, one titled "Program Files" and the other "Program Files (86)" - so this has confused me somewhat. NO cdrom (I dont know how to mount it the iso file is on USB device), I transferd the ISO and unzip the ISO in a directory I run: "pkgadd -d /export/michel/SOLARIS_10/PRODUCT SUNi1cs" == process datastream failed ... errno=2.
