• Delphi disable warnings fails

  I have the following code in a Delphi 2007 application: function TBaseCriteriaObject.RecursiveCount( ObjType: TBaseCriteriaObjectClass): integer; var CurObj: TBaseCriteriaObject; begin result := 0; {$WARNINGS OFF} for CurObj in RecursiveChildren(ObjType) do Inc(Result); {$WARNINGS ON} end; Which produces this warning: [DCC Warning] BaseCriteriaObject.pas(255): H2077 Value assigned to 'CurObj' never used I understand the warning but don't want to change the code, so how do I get rid of the warning because {$WARNINGS OFF} does not seem to work in this case?

• Microsoft Robotics Studio in Ubuntu, with Wine ?

  I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and I am a bit of a robotics enthusiast. I have used KiKS (in MATLAB for simulating Khepera robots), MobotSim (in Windows, simulates a point like robot using a BASIC editor) and Player/Stage (with C/C++ on Ubuntu 9.04). My question, can MS Robotics Studio be installed in Ubuntu Linux using Wine (I am using 1.1.31) ? Has anyone done it ? Any other way to install MS Robotics Studio in Unix (Any flavour) ? • Stop duplicate icmp echo replies when bridging to a dummy interface?

  I recently configured a bridge br0 with members as eth0 (real if) and dummy0 (dummy.ko if). When I ping this machine, I receive duplicate replies as: # ping SERVERA PING SERVERA.domain.local (192.168.100.115) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from SERVERA.domain.local (192.168.100.115): icmp_seq=1 ttl=62 time=113 ms 64 bytes from SERVERA.domain.local (192.168.100.115): icmp_seq=1 ttl=62 time=114 ms (DUP!) 64 bytes from SERVERA.domain.local (192.168.100.115): icmp_seq=2 ttl=62 time=113 ms 64 bytes from SERVERA.domain.local (192.168.100.115): icmp_seq=2 ttl=62 time=113 ms (DUP!) I've read that this could be due to the ARP table of a switch, but I can't find any info directly related to bridges, just bonds. I have a feeling my problem lay in the stack on linux, not the switch, but am opened to any suggestions. The system is running centos6/el6 kernel 2.6.32-71.29.1.el6.i686. How do I stop ICMP echo replies from being sent in duplicate when dealing with a bridge interface/bridged interfaces? I still received duplicate icmp echo replies... in fact I received a random amount: http://pastebin.com/2LNs0GM8 The same thing doesn't happen on a few other hosts on the same switch, so it has to do with the linux box itself. I'll likely end up rebuilding it next week. Then... you know... this same thing will occur again. [edit3] Guess what? I rebuilt the box, and I'm still receiving duplicate ICMP echo replies. Must be the network infrastructure, although the ARP tables do not contain multiple entries. [edit4] How ridiculous. The machine was a network probe, so I was (ingress and egress) mirroring an uplink port to a node that was the NIC. So, the flow (must have) gone like this: ICMP echo request comes in through the mirrored uplink port. (the real) ICMP echo request is received by the NIC (the mirrored) ICMP echo request is received by the NIC ICMP echo reply is sent for both. I'm ashamed of myself, but now I know. It was suggested on #networking to either isolate the mirrored traffic to an interface that does not have IP enabled, or tag the mirrored packets with dot1q.

• Office Interop addins installer?

  I have three C# Solutions in Visual Stuido 2008, one each for Word, Excel and PowerPoint using interop to hook various events. In each Solution, I have exactly one class, the one created by default when using File - New - Project - Visual C# - Office - 2007. Now that I have my addins working properly, it's time to create an installer. I understand that I may also have to distribute the PIAs. I would like my installer to register itself such that it can be uninstalled via the normal Add/Remove Programs mechanism. My organization is somewhat standardized around WiX for creating installers, but I'm open to any suggestions. How do I produce an MSI or EXE capable of installing my addins? GUI/wizard for the installer is not necessary. I'm happy to RTFM - so far all the tutorials I've found only explain how to create the project and do some of the coding. Maybe I'm using the wrong search terms? Thanks in advance for any help!

• Creating a custom Publishing Portal Web site in SharePoint 2010

  Custom Web sites built on SharePoint are cropping up everywhere (just visit topsharepoint.com to see). With that said, my question pertains to creating a fully customized, branded site using SharePoint as the CMS as depicted by many of the topsharepoint.com sites. I understand the concept of creating the custom master master page(s) (SharePoint 2010 even includes a minimal.master to start). The problems I have are: What site template does one use? In 2007 the recommended front-facing Web site site collection template was the Publishing Portal. Is this still the case? What navigation do you use? Do you leverage the OOB navigation? If so, how do you style it extensively? How do you keep the on-page editing capabilities within the new site template? Are there any online tutorials are walk-throughs that address all of these issues? I have been searching, but it's really sparse out there.

• Default content editor in list form doesn't allow image alignment

  I need to be able to adjust the alignment of an image in an "Enhanced Rich Text Field" in an announcements list in MOSS 2007. However, the default content editor in the edit form for the list doesn't provide a way to do that. What's the fastest way for me to make sure users can align images? My first thought was to customize the DispForm.aspx and EditForm.aspx pages, but they just have the ListForm web part in the content region and as far as I know, you can't customize the ListForm web part from the designer.

• Why ping another innet machine from MacBook get netgate's ip address?

  I have three machine in my home network connected by a wireless router. One is server installed linux at 192.168.1.1, another is Thinkpad with MS Windows XP at 192.168.1.2, last one is MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.3 at 192.168.1.3. When I ping the Linux Server from Thinkpad (MS Windows XP) I can get the correct ip address, but when I ping it from Mac I get the global address of my router, like 61.135.181.175. Could you tell me why this happen? And how do I get same ping result on Mac and Windows. Thanks

• ado.net slow updating large tables

  The problem: 100,000+ name & address records in an access table (2003). Need to iterate through the table & update detail with the output from a 3rd party dll. I currently use ado, and it works at an acceptable speed (less than 5 minutes on a network share). We will soon need to update to access 2007 and its 'non jet' accdb format to maintain compatability with clients. I've tried using ado.net datsets, but updating the records takes hours! We process 5-10 of these tables per day - so this cannot be a solution. Any ideas on the fastest way to update individual records using ado.net? Surely we didn't take such a hugh backward step with ado.net? Any help would be appreciated.

  I have a few MP4s that i want to upload to my flickr account but they have a maximum size of 500mb as mine is only about 550 i was planing to simply split them in half then upload them, but i want to make sure all the meta data is included but it does not seem to be. • Delphi / MySql : Problems escaping strings

  N00b here, having problems escaping strings. I used the QuotedStr() function - shouldn't that be enough. Unfortunately, the string that I am trying to quote is rather messy, but I will post it here in case anyone wants to paste it into WinMerge or KDiff3, etc. I am trying to store an entire Delphi form into the database, rather than into a .DFM file. It has only one field, a TEdit edit box. • .NET Excel Interop - Why aren't my Footers displaying in my printed output file?

  I'm working with C# and Office 2007's Excel Interop API. I'm opening an Excel file, applying some formatting and then sending it to the printer. I've got a problem, though. The Footer text doesn't appear to be printing. If I check the PageSetup.RightFooter property, I can see the expected Page Number in the Footer. That Page Number doesn't appear anywhere on the printed output sheet. When I print using Excel, though, they appear. Does anyone know why my Footer text is not appearing? Here's my code.   Based on this http://servergrrl.blogspot.com/2008/02/how-to-use-wss-30-to-search-more-than.html blog, I've created a domain account for testing and sets the permission at the side level as well as Document Library to allow specific user (DOMAIN/TestUser1) allow accessing this folder. Now, it's interesting that the user can see the document by drilling though BUT it won't be able to search and the document couldn't find it. But if I tested with the site owner (both primary and secondary), it works nicely. What did I do wrong then? It must be related on permission but I cound't work out what it is. BTW ... I am using WSS not MOSS 2007. Thanks

  In Delphi 2007 and later, the global variable UseLatestCommonDialogs causes TOpenDialog to use the new Vista-style dialog on Windows Vista and 7. That's cool. Unfortunately, the Vista-style dialog does not seem to support the ofHideReadOnly option of TOpenDialog. The read-only checkbox never appears regardless whether this option is set to True or False. How can I make TOpenDialog show a read-only checkbox on the Vista-style dialog? TOpenTextFileDialog adds a combo box to the dialog regardless of whether it's Vista-style or not. It should be possible to add a read-only checkbox in the same way, but I can't figure out how to do it, even when looking at the source for TOpenTextFileDialog.

  I'd like to write a .NET application in F# to automate some of the processing of my e-mails. For example, when an order comes in my program might compute a new htpasswd from the e-mail's contents, upload it to our web server and reply to the customer with login details. How do people do this? I've tried Outlook 2007 automation but it just prompts the user for security and my attempts to get it to stop doing this have failed so I cannot automate anything with it. Is there a .NET-friendly e-mail client I can use more easily? This has been so tedious that I'm seriously considering writing my own .NET-friendly e-mail client...

The solution below works fine but I am specifically looking for a way to lookup manager of the user who created the holiday request list item in the workflow. • Problem with datagridvieew in vb.net

  I'm trying to add a datagridview in vb.net, but it does not allow me to change the connection string or the database that should be imported to connect to it. The only thing that I'm seeing is the previous ms sql database that I connected with datagridview and everytime I click the new connection, the window closes and it leaves me with the datagridview with the previous connection that I have. And its not applicable because, now I want to connect it with mysql. Not ms sql. Its some sort of a cache like feature in vb.net, how do I get rid of it. so that I can add the new connection for mysql? Do I need to reinstall visual studio 2008?

• Prevent Django from redirecting to add trailing slash

  UPDATED: Sorry, it looks like it's Apache that's rewriting it for some reason, not Django. I'll investigate further and post my findings. I need to add a /xmlrpc.php to my Byteflow installation to handle an application that is written for PHP blog engines and uses this hardcoded path. For some reason Byteflow appends a slash to this URL using a 301 Moved Permanently redirect, which breaks the application. It does not do so for the /robots.txt that is configured in a similar way. Relevant lines from the project urls.py: url(r'^xmlrpc.php$', 'django_xmlrpc.views.xmlrpc_handler'), url(r'^robots.txt$', include('robots.urls')), I read that the behavior was changed in the Django codebase in commit 6852 (in 2007) to prevent redirects being done for urls that have been explicitly configured not to contain any trailing slashes. I'm using Django 1.1. I assume that once I have fixed this problem, I should be able to use this application with Byteflow, because the application uses the MetaWeblog XML-RPC API. Any clue?

• Why OpenGL ES texture mapping is very slow?

  I have an Android application that displays VGA (640x480) frames using OpenGL ES. The application reads each frame from a movie file and updates the texture accordingly. My problem is that, it is taking almost 30 ms. to draw each frame using OpenGL. Similar test using the Canvas/drawBitmap was around 6 ms on the same device. I'm following the same OpenGL calls that VLC Media Player is using, so I'm assuming that those are optimized for this purpose. I just wanted to hear your thoughts and ideas about it?
