• VB.net Network Graph code/algorithm

  For a school project we need to visualise a computer network graph. The number of computers with specific properties are read from an XML file, and then a graph should be created. Ad random computers are added and removed. Is there any open source project or algorithm that could help us visualising this in VB.net? Or would you suggest us to switch to java. Update: We eventually switched java and used the Jung libraries because this was easier for us to understand and implement.

• Problem with connectionstring and entityframework

  Hello, I have a database (sql 2008 mdf file), a class library project with an edmx file, created with the wizard. So the connection string is also made by the wizard. This project is on a teamfoundation server. I can use all the wizard made objects when coding. But when i run the program and I try to make an entityContainerName, the program crashes and gives this error: The specified named connection is either not found in the configuration, not intended to be used with the EntityClient provider, or not valid. on this line: public TestEntities() : base("name=TestEntities", "TestEntities") How can I solve this problem or what am I doing wrong?

• Can't compile grails Tomcat plugin

  I'm using Netbeans to build a Grails app, while I have used this fine before on this new computer I can not get even the basic project to compile and run. I am getting errors around compiling the Tomcat plugin. If I uninstall the plugin it and use Jetty instead it will compile but the project isn't set up for Jetty and is missing files. Below is the error I'm getting I'm thinking it is some issue with my classpath but I just don't know where to start any help would be much appreciated. java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/catalina/startup/Tomcat$ExistingStandardWrapper

• Location of various javax.xml.* packages within the Java 6 SDK.

  Alright, so recently I was using Notepad++ for all of my programming needs, but I've started using Eclipse for larger-scale Java projects now. I decided to pick up an old project of mine which used various classes within the "javax.xml.*" namespaces. When I was compiling and running the program with Notepad++ it worked just fine, however Eclipse can't seem to find these packages. My question is this, since I obviously have the classes somewhere within my current installation of JDK 6 (since I had no problems when using Notepad++), where can I find the location of the .JAR file(s) that include these namespaces/classes so that I can add them to my Eclipse project? • Shared WCF client code between .NET and Silverlight apps?

  I'm developing a .NET application that will have both a WinForms and a Silverlight client. Although the majority of code will be in the server, I'll need to have quite a bit of logic in the clients as well, and I would like to keep the client library code the same. From what I could figure out so far, I need to have two different project types, a class library and a Silverlight class library, and link the files from one project to the other. This seems kind of lame, but it works for simple code. My problem, though, is that the code generated by the SVCUtil.exe to access WCF services is different from the code generated by the slsvcutil.exe, and the silverlight code is actually incompatible with the .NET one: I get a bunch of problems with the System.ServiceModel.Channel classes when I try to import the class into .NET. Has anybody done anything similar to this before? What am I doing wrong?

• Metric to measure object-orientedness

  Is there a metric that can assist in determining the object-orientedness of a system or application? I've seen some pretty neat metrics in the .NET Reflector Add-ins codeplex project, but nothing like this yet. If such a metric doesn't exist, would it even be possible or useful? There are the 3 supposed tenets of object-oriented programming: encapsulation, inheritance, and polymorphism; a tool that ranked programs against these might be able to show areas of a C# (or similar) code base where the whole object-oriented ideal was discarded, and perhaps how many bugs are associated with that area versus the rest of the project.

• Using the C Cluster library in Visual C++.

  Right so i'm trying to use a C library in C++, never actually done this before i thought it would be a case of declaring the header includes under a extern "C" and setting the compile as flag to "default" but i'm still getting linker errors and think that the header file might have to be complied as a DLL. I have no idea really. Is it the library that's the problem or is it me? There are some make files in the cluster-1.47\src, but i don't know how or if they relate to "cluster.h".   my project need to migrate from oc4j to jboss. But it seems that default EJB transaction attribute is different between them. For OC4J: If you do not specify any transaction attributes for an EJB method then OC4J uses default transaction attributes. OC4J by default uses Required for CMP 2.0, NotSupported for MDBs and Supports for all other types of EJBs. (refer to official doc) For JBoss: default for all types EJB is Required. (Maybe , refer to un-official site) To migrate my project within less effort, how to config a default global EJB transaction attribute, e.g. Supports, in JBoss Server?

• SQL Server: Primary Key Schema Largely Guid but Sometimes Integer Types...

  OK, this may be a silly question but... I have inherited a project and am tasked with going over the primary key relationships. The project largely uses Guids. I say "largely" because there are examples where tables use integral types to reflect enumerations. For example, dbo.MessageFolder has MessageFolderId of type int to reflect public emum MessageFolderTypes { inbox = 1, sent = 2, trash = 3, etc... } This happens a lot. There are tables with primary keys of type int which is unavoidable because of their reliance on enumerations and tables with primary keys of type Guid which reflect the primary key choice on the part of the previous programmer. Should I care that the PK schema is spotty like this? It doesn't feel right but does it really matter? If this could create a problem, how do I get around it (I really can't move all PKs to type int without serious legwork and I have never heard of enumerations that have guid values)? Thanks.

I did a research and found that overriding IDocHostUIHandler::ShowContextMenu in a IE BHO can customized IE context menu. The sample project can be found in Popup blocker project published in codeproject. It works well and is easy to implement. However this approach has a problem. The problem is it will conflict with other add-ons' context menu customization per MSDN. In MSDN Internet Explorer Center forum, there are some discussions about this topic.   I have a project containing files generated from a .g file (antlr 2.7.x). The guy who wrote the whole thing has left me with it. Until now, I did not need to modify the grammar and all was fine. But now, I cannot continue without modifying the grammar (i.e. the .g-file). I have the source code of the used antlr and the visual studio 2005 project. Unfortunately, the lexer and parser files are not generated prior to the build (in fact they are never generated) and that leads to my question: how do I generate these files whenever the grammar file is modified? Or in other words, how do I integrate antlr into visual studio?

  The environment: SVN, Netbeans, Hudson SVN Project A: Builds a library file (foo.jar). The build file is under /dist, which is ignored for svn, the sourcecode is under svn control. SVN Project B: holds all library files. (other SVN projects get all their libraries from here via external svn) Question: I want to commit foo.jar from A into B.   Hi Can somebody fill me in on JavaScript Testing Frameworks? I'm working on a project now and as the JS (Mostly jQuery) libraries grow, it's getting more and more difficult to introduce change or refactor, because I have no way of guaranteeing the accuracy of the code without manually testing everything. I don't really know anything about JavaScript Testing Frameworks, or how they integrate/operate in a .Net project, so I thought I'd ask here. What would a good testing framework be for .Net? What does a JavaScript test look like? (e.g. with NUnit, I have [TestFixture] classes & [Test] methods in a ProjectTests assembly) How do I run a javascript test?   I'm very new to flash and as3 design patterns. But I can read and write as3 quite ok, i've created small widgets with that. I've developed several web sites using php and also python. Now for a educational cd-rom project i'm working on, i've basically designed all templates (A home page, a generic page with navigation and a sidebar - kind of like a wordpress blog). I have all the data for the cdrom on word files, which i intend to place on xml files. My question is what is the best way to start a project like this? What I did Create a project (Window-Based) Add 3 child classes (Window-Based too) Add a Tab Bar Controller to MainWindow.xib For each view under Tab Bar Controller, the 'Class', 'Name', 'Title' and 'NIB Name' are all set to connect to the corresponding class Add @class, IBOutlet are done in AppDelegate.h and AppDelegate.m In didFinishLaunchingWithOptions, I called [window addSubView: tabBarController.view]; Save and Run -- Tab Bar with 3 items can be seen But ... the 3 child views ARE NOT LOADED and SHOWN ... :( Anything that I missed ?   Hello, My solution has a library project which needs a special environment to be built (lots of external libraries and tools)... but it is not vital to our application. We'd like to avoid installing these tools when not necessary (most of our developers work on other parts of code). We have created another project which has the same API, but has an empty implementation and is compilable without those external tools. I'd like to be able to easily switch between those projects and still get all the references in other projects correct. I don't know VS/MSBuild very well, but willing to learn whatever is necessary. Is it possible? I am looking for ideas... We're using Subversion, and solutions involving some hacks inside VCS are also welcome.

  Hi there! I had one Git repository (A) which contains the development of a project until a certain point. Then I lost the USB stick this repo A was on. Luckily I had a backup of the latest commit, so I could create a new repository (B) later where I imported the latest project's state and continue development. Now I recovered that lost USB stick, so I have two Git repositories. I think I just have to rebase repo B onto repo A somehow, but I have no idea how to do that, maybe using fetch/pull and rebase?   do you seriously have to make your own content pipeline project for every single type of file you want to load? Microsoft just seem to be pretending that the iphone doesn't exist (even though they are now paying devs to port between them). I'm trying to port my game from the iphone to winmo7, and I already have a nice asset pipeline set up for exporting textures in the exact format we want (16 bit fmts ect) I just want to be able to open a file and read it, just like I would on any other platform. I have tried System.IO.File.OpenText("atextfile.txt"), but it says that function is "RESTRICTED!!!!" I have tried just adding the txt file to the content project, setting its properties to "content" and "copy always" and then trying to open it doing this.Content.Load("atextfile.txt"); with and without the extension, says it can't find the file.

  hi, I'm trying to call a windows workflow foundation published as a web service from a Silverlight project. When I call it from a console application it works fine because I can add a web reference then I just make an instance of that webservice then I invoke the method I want.   I am trying to use "printf" in my Visual C++ project however it is not working. Using Lazy Foo's tutorial, I set up SDL in my project, but when I play it, printf doesnt do anything. #include "SDL.h" #include <stdio.h> int main( int argc, char* args[] ) { printf("Testing"); return 0; } The output looks like this: The program '[4664] SDL Testing.exe: Native' has exited with code 0 (0x0). And that's about it. What could be wrong?

  I've been working on a Django project using South to track and manage database schema changes. I'm starting a new Java project using Google Web Toolkit and wonder if there is an equivalent tool. For those who don't know, here's what South does: Automatically recognize changes to my Python database models (add/delete columns, tables etc.) Automatically create SQL statements to apply those changes to my database Track the applied schema migrations and apply them in order Allow data migrations using Python code. For example, splitting a name field into a first-name and last-name field using the Python split() function I haven't decided on my Java ORM yet, but Hibernate looks like the most popular. For me, the ability to easily make database schema changes will be an important factor.
