• creating ports and initiating communication between client and server

  what i need is a server that listens to 5060 port , when the client sends data to that port the server should open up another port ( any port after 1250 i believe ) and forward the clients data to that port keeping 5060 idle so it can perform the same function for the next client so basically i need the server to a) open up multiple ports one for each client b) get the voice data from the client and be able to send voice data to that client i m looking into the hardware specs and other such details of the scenario so i dont have time to make such a program myself if theres a code that i can run directly ( both server and client side ) on visual studio .net 2010 that will perform these tasks then that would be extremely helpful thanks alot in advance

• Newbie programmer looking for a fun, small project (pref. C++/Python)

  Hello everyone, I have some experience in Scheme and C++ (read: a semester of each) I know the very basics of Python (used it for physics simulations with the Visual Python module). Can you recommend me some fun and small (i.e. don't take much time) projects on either Python or C++? I have no real preferences, just that it is fun :P Thanks for your time! PS: I've tried projecteuler and python challenge. Euler is good, but more about math than coding, and py challenge just didn't work for me.

• Suggestions for a C++ IDE?

  I know this is is a shifty question and really isn't easy to answer, but bare with me. For a while now I have been using Eclipse and doing Java programming. Now that I reach a point where I'm comfortable in Java, I wish to move on back into C++ and actually make something more than a single class that prints to terminal; and work in OpenGL :). So I wonder if anybody has a recomendation of IDE's that resemble or are as fluid as Eclipse? I am aware that Eclipse has a C++ plugin, but it really doesn't feel user friendly (at least to a pampered java programmer!). I have (I think I still have it?) a copy of Visual Studio 2005, but want to see if anyone has any better ideas. Thanks ~Aedon

• Good code visualization / refactoring tools for C++?

  I've found myself coming across a lot of reasonably large, complicated codebases at work recently which I've been asked to either review or refactor or both. This can be extremely time consuming when the code is highly concurrent, makes heavy use of templates (particularly static polymorphism) and has logic that depends on callbacks/signals/condition variables/etc. Are there any good visualization tools for C++ period, and of those are there any that actually play well with "advanced" C++ features? Anything would probably be better than my approach now, which is basically pen+paper or stepping through the debugger. The debugger method can be good for following a particular code path, but isn't great for seeing the big picture you really need when doing serious refactoring. EDIT: I should mention that Visual Studio plugins aren't going to be a lot of help to me, since our stuff is mostly Linux-only.

• Reuse C++ Header files

  Guys, I have a Visual C++ solution with 2 projects AlgorithmA & AlgorithmB and both share a common header file RunAlgo.h with the class declaration. Each project in the solution has its own unique implementation for the header file. I am trying to compile a DLL out of the common header file RunAlgo.h and add reference to this DLL in the projects AlgorithmA & AlgorithmB. I have then included separate RunAlgo.cpp definition file in both my projects. The problem is that I am getting linker errors while compiling the new DLL project which has only the header file. So, the question is Can a header file with only class declaration be compiled into a DLL (Similar to class library containing an Interface in C#)? For the above scenario, is there a better approach to reuse the common Header file among projects? Should the above method work (re-check my code?)

• How to deploy a c# application while including third party DLL's?

  To start with, I don't know much of deployment. I hope my question makes sense. I need to install/deploy a c# application to a number of desktops. It needs a third-party DLL : a c++ library ("lpsolve55.dll", for those interested, it is a free MIP/LP solver, see lpsolve.sourceforge.net/5.5/). I use it in my code in the following way: [DllImport("lpsolve55.dll", SetLastError = true)] public static extern bool add_column(int lp, double[] column); For testing, I have manually copied the .dll file to to project\bin\release, it works fine. My question: I will need an installer for the application, which will manage that the .dll will install as well. I am considering clickonce deployment since I am using visual studio express (2008), but any not too expensive solution will do. What would you advice?

  Hi! Can someone please tell me a GUI framework (for Windows. doesn't need to be cross platform) that allows me to specify the design of the UI elements very precisely? For example, the Windows and UI elements of Adobe products look different than other Windows applications. • Operating System Widget Side Project

  I want to start on a side project and here's my idea: Whenever the user's mouse is pressed down, I want a small ring around the cursor to show up. I'm mainly doing this to learn more about programming and get myself to think outside of work related materials. • Is my program taking too much time to execute?

When I step into the loop, the code works well, but when I execute it, the console is always there. It is as if the program is still running. Could it be that the program takes time to execute? • Windows azure deployment

  I just built a simple hello world windows azure service containing just one web role, I used visual studio 2008 and Windows azure tools for VS 1.2 I am pretty new to this and I have been trying to deploy an application all afternoon now. I'm in australia and deploying in the region Asia anywhere. I have pretty much followed the info provided on MSDN and it says uploaded 95% then after about ten minutes the deployment disappears. I have tried using the old windows azure developer portal and 30minutes later I can not access the service and it's status is either busy or stopped. I have the introductory offer for an extra small compute instance on the subscription I am deploying to. Can anyone with experience with windows azure elaborate on the subject of deploying apps and the status on my application, I am very keen to get into the platform and this issue has just about spoiled my weekend.

• "Use windows xp style dpi scaling" disables automatic auto-hide of taskbar on W7. Workaround?

  We noticed that on W7 with DPI set to 125% or to 100% with ("Use windows xp style dpi scaling") turned off, our fullscreen mode (which sets the client rect of our window = desktop rect of the main monitor) no longer hides the task bar like it does for other settings. (The setting can be found in the Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display section after clicking on the "Set custom text size (DPI)" link) I found the following interesting article: http://www.mathies.com/weblog/?p=908 So I set out to try to work around the bug in other means than manually hiding/restoring the taskbar visibility but so far I've failed and currently believe it's a bug in W7 (and possibly vista). The following applications also fail to work properly in fullscreen mode (the taskbar is still visible): * Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 * Microsoft Word 2007 * Adobe Reader 9.1.3 These apps work (probably by hiding the task bar through the WIN32 API): * Powerpoint Slide Show I also tried creating a brand new MFC-based app and use its "SetFullScreenMode()" functionality but it fails in the same way as all other apps on the list. • EntityFramwork System.OutOfMemoryException on 100MB upload

• I have a problem implementing states in my Flex app, please help!

  Hey guys, I'm trying to work out how to use states in my Flex app. I've created two states, State1 and Stage 2. Both are based off the base state. I've created a few visual elements for State1, and given each of them includeIn="State1". But when I'm in design mode and click on State2, these elements are still visible? Why is that? If I try to delete them while State2 is selected, all that happens is RemoveChild is added to the State2 tag. Is this how I'm supposed to do it? Thanks for reading!

  hi, I would like to create an addin for microsoft outlook, and am using the visual studio tools to do so. However I am really struggling to get my head around the use of interfaces within the VSTO environment - the resources on MSDN show many useful looking interfaces, but I am unsure how to use these interfaces to access data. For example I am trying to add a new folder into an IMAP account but am finding it very difficult to work out how to get outlook to do so. Can anyone recommend any good resources for learning how to use VSTO (I have VSTO for dummies, but it doesn't cover the level of detail I need, I have been using MSDN, but I have found it doesnt offer much information on how to use the interfaces etc.) thanks.

• Can the Sequence of RecordSets in a Multiple RecordSet ADO.Net resultset be determined, controlled?

  I am using code similar to this Support / KB article to return multiple recordsets to my C# program. But I don't want C# code to be dependant on the physical sequence of the recordsets returned, in order to do it's job. So my question is, "Is there a way to determine which set of records from a multiplerecordset resultset am I currently processing?" I know I could probably decipher this indirectly by looking for a unique column name or something per resultset, but I think/hope there is a better way. P.S. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Pro & SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.

  I teach a sort of "lite" C++ programming course to novices ("lite" meaning no pointers, no classes, just plain old C, plus references and STL string and vectors). Students have no previous experience in programming, so I believe that using an interactive debugger would help them understand program flow, variables, and recursion. The course is taught in Linux. Teaching them to use gdb is just overkill (they will not use nor understand most features). I just need something simple but easy to use: to see at which line the program is now, what is in the stack (local variables, previous calls, etc.). I look something similar to old Turbo Pascal or Turbo C++ Borland's debugger, or Visual Studio debugger. Thank you,

• Differing form size between XP and 7

  I am developing a C# WinForms app on my XP dev machine with Visual C# Express 2008. I set the form to have a size of my liking with Width and Height on the designer and all looks good. I also set these dimensions to the MaximumSize property. Deploying the app to another XP machine, and the app looks like it does on my dev. However, in testing the app on a Win7 machine, the form has both horizontal and vertical scrollbars applied. I assume that this is due to the changed non-client size of the form, as determined by Win7. I can resize the window, but I would like it to be displayed correctly to begin with. So, my question is: What is the best way to correctly maintain a form size client area across OS'es? Thanks all.

• Why does placing this html within form tags change the layout?

  I'm using this free Web Template - EliteCircle and have just incorporated it into a master page. The master page wraps the html in: <form id="form1" runat="server"> //master page html </form> The template almost comes out fine except the entire page is surrounded by a think white border (default CSS behavior for form?) and the footer background is half white on the very bottom. I wouldn't expect the form with id=form1 to change anything in the layout. There is nothing in the [CSS][2] with that id. When I remove the form tags from the master page (just to check) the layout is perfect, no problems. Any ideas? • Why does Windows Explorer search freeze when I have an unrelated program paused in a debugger

  While debugging my program, whether it's an ASP.NET application or a .NET console EXE and I have the debugger paused at a breakpoint I try to find a file in Windows Explorer. Either pressing WinKey+F or selecting search from the context menu freezes Windows Explorer - until I resume the program being debugged. My program has nothing to do with Windows Explorer! In fact, this happens in Visual Studio 2008 even with the simplest console EXE (WriteLine and ReadLine). I can't repro it with this simple EXE in WinDbg, but it does happen in with WinDb debugging an ASP.NET app. Why does this happen and how do I fix it? It's bloody annoying, especially when you don't realise what's going on. This is on Windows XP x64 SP2, running a .NET 3.5 application.

  Hello all, I've never burnt a visual studio program to a CD before. I've made a setup project with all my program files, and it works fine. Do I simply need to burn the following installer files onto the CD and give it to someone? The installer is a folder containing: -DotNetFX35 (Folder): Contains .net requirements for my program. -WIndowsInstaller3_1 (Folder): WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe -setup.exe -My Installer.msi Sorry for the seemingly easy question. • new with exception with Microsoft

  As I'm coding for both Windows and Linux, I have a whole host of problems. Microsoft Visual C++ has no stdint header, but for that I wrote my own. Now I found out that MS C++'s new operator does not throw an exception, so I want to fix this a quickly as possible. I know I can define a Macro with Parameters in Parenthesis, can I define a macro that replaces MyClass x = new MyClass(); with #ifdef MSC_VER if(!(MyClass x = new MyClass()) { throw new std::bad_alloc(); } #else MyClass x = new MyClass(); #endif (or something equivalent), AND works in BOTH MS C++ and G++ ? Or alternatively if that is not possible, a batch file to run over the Code to do this? I have become rather dependent on this exception being thrown.
