  • Using awk to return only certain chunks of data

    I'm not 100% certain how to phrase my question simply, so I apologize if this has been answered somewhere and I was just unable to find it. What I have are debug logs with authentication packets in them along with a bunch of other output. I need to search through about 2 million lines of logs to find every packet that contains a certain mac address. The packets look something like this (slightly censored): -----------------[ header ]----------------- Event: Authd-Response (1900) Sequence: -54 Timestamp: 1969-12-31 19:30:00 (0) ---------------[ attributes ]--------------- Auth-Result = Auth-Accept Service-Profile-SID = 53 Service-Profile-SID = 49 RADIUS-Access-Accept-Attr/WiMAX-Capability = 0x(numbers) Session-Timeout = 3600 Service-Profile-SID = 4 Service-Profile-SID = 29 Chargeable-User-Identity = "(Numbers)" User-Password = "(the MAC address I'm looking for)" -------------------------------------------- However there are about 10 different possible types with different possible lengths. They all start with the header line and end with the all-dashes line. I've had success using awk to get the code blocks themselves using this: awk '/-----------------\[ header \]-----------------/,/--------------------------------------------/' filename.txt But I was hoping to be able to use it to return only the packets which contain the MAC address that I need. I've been trying to figure this out for a few days now and I'm pretty stuck. I could try and write a bash script, but I could swear that I've used awk to do something like this before...

Why 2? Why not 3? how does one decide this factor ? IF it is language dependent I would like to know this for Java.

  • Mysql: create index on 1.4 billion records

    I have a table with 1.4 billion records. The table structure is as follows: CREATE TABLE text_page ( text VARCHAR(255), page_id INT UNSIGNED ) ENGINE=MYISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=ascii The requirement is to create an index over the column text. The table size is about 34G. I have tried to create the index by the following statement: ALTER TABLE text_page ADD KEY ix_text (text) After 10 hours' waiting I finally give up this approach. Is there any workable solution on this problem? UPDATE: the table is unlikely to be updated or inserted or deleted. The reason why to create index on the column text is because this kind of sql query would be frequently executed: SELECT page_id FROM text_page WHERE text = ?

  • CoreData is saving model without the save: method being called

    I have a list of items with a plus button in the navigation bar that opens up a modal window containing a table of the models attributes, that displays a form when the table items are clicked (pretty standard form style). For some reason if I click the plus button to open the form to create a new model, then immediately click the done button, the person model is saved. The action linked to the done button does nothing but call on a delegate method notifying the personListViewController to close the window. The apple docs do state that the model is not saved after calling the insertNewObjectForEntityName: ... Simply creating a managed object does not cause it to be saved to a persistent store. The managed object context acts as a scratchpad. I am at a lost to why this is happening, but every time I click the done button I have a new blank item in the original tableView.   • Best datastructure for frequently queried list of objects

    Hello, I have a list of objects say, List. The Entity class has an equals method,on few attributes ( business rule ) to differentiate one Entity object from the other. The task that we usually carry out on this list is to remove all the duplicates something like this : List<Entity> noDuplicates = new ArrayList<Entity>(); for(Entity entity: lstEntities) { int indexOf = noDuplicates.indexOf(entity); if(indexOf >= 0 ) { noDuplicates.get(indexOf).merge(entity); } else { noDuplicates.add(entity); } } Now, the problem that I have been observing is that this part of the code, is slowing down considerably as soon as the list has objects more than 10000.I understand arraylist is doing a o(N) search. Is there a faster alternative, using HashMap is not an option, because the entity's uniqueness is built upon 4 of its attributes together, it would be tedious to put in the key itself into the map ? will sorted set help in faster querying ?     Hopefully this is a pretty simple question for someone to answer. I have a drop down list control that I need to pull the value from in the code behind of the page, modify it and redisplay it. The modifying and redisplaying I've got no problem with, it's grabing the value from the drop down control. Examples in C# would be appreciated as this web app I've been handed is already coded that way. I'm pretty new to .Net so be gentle and I already did some searching via Google and a little bit on the site here, but couldn't find anything that stood out as being the direction to go in to do this.

  • persist values/variables from page to page

    Hello, I'm wondering if there's another solution to my problem, that's considered more the Sharepoint way. FIrstly, my site is an Internet site, not Intranet. The problem is, all I'm trying to do is save values/variables from page to page in Sharepoint. I know the issue with Session Variables, but this seems to be the only way I can see to accomplish this. I know there are webparts that can store this value, but am I wrong in thinking this won't be persisted from page to page? Basically, I'll be extending the Content Query Web Part to dynamically filter it's results based off of a variable/value. The user chooses their 'area' from a dropdown, and the CQWP in the site will change and query results based off of this value (It will be a provincial structure as it is a Canadian site, so if someone chooses the province 'Ontario', this value is saved in a global variable, and these extended CQWP that are throughout the site, will get this value, and query lists flagged as Ontario). Is Session variables the only solution? Thanks everyone!

Currently, I have a method that accepts two parameters and each parameter value is stored in first and second hashmap. I have to iterate first hash then second to get values. I think there must be a good way to do it but I don't know :( P.S: there could be some errors in above code as this is just an example to explain my problem. Each iterator is a method in original program and accept one parameter. I couldn't copy past real time functions as they are HUGE !

  • two android threads and not synchronized data

    i have a (perhaps stupid) question: im using 2 threads, one is writing floats and one is reading this floats permanently. my question is, what could happen worse when i dont synchronize them? it would be no problem if some of the values would not be correct because they switch just a little every write operation. im running the application this way at the moment and dont have any problems so i want to know what could happen worse? a read/write conflict would cause a number like 12345 which is written to 54321 and red at the same time appear for example as 54345 ? or could happen something worse? (i dont want to use synchronization to keep the code as fast as possible)

I've tried using a recursive CTE to generate this, however maybe a cursor would be better? or maybe a set of recursive functions will do the trick? Fast? only point where I to some extent agree but cannot understand the same upper limits n for each for-loops -- perhaps he supposed it circular why does the code take O(mlog(n)) to proceed in time as finite structure? The term finite may be wrong, explicit?

  • Rogue PropertyChanged notifications from ViewModel

    The following simple program is causing me a Databinding headache. I'm new to this which is why I suspect it has a simple answer. Basically, I have two text boxes bound to the same property myString. I have not set up the ViewModel (simply a class with one property, myString) to provide any notifications to the View for when myString is changed, so even although both text boxes operate a two way binding there should be no way that the text boxes update when myString is changed, am I right? Except... In most circumstances this is true - I use the 'change value' button at the bottom of the window to change the value of myString to whatever the user types into the adjacent text box, and the two text boxes at the top, even although they are bound to myString, do not change. Fine. However, if I edit the text in TextBox1, thus changing the value of myString (although only when the text box loses focus due to the default UpdateSourceTrigger property, see reference), TextBox2 should NOT update as it shouldn't receive any updates that myString has changed. However, as soon as TextBox1 loses focus (say click inside TextBox2) TextBox2 is updated with the new value of myString. My best guess so far is that because the TextBoxes are bound to the same property, something to do with TextBox1 updating myString gives TextBox2 a notification that it has changed. Very confusing as I haven't used INotifyPropertyChanged or anything like that. To clarify, I am not asking how to fix this. I know I could just change the binding mode to a oneway option. I am wondering if anyone can come up with an explanation for this strange behaviour?   • Rendering maps from raw SVG data in Java

    In an application of mine I have to display locations and great circle paths in a map which is rendered to PNG and then displayed on the web. For this I simply use a world map (NASA's Blue Marbel in fact) scaled to various "zoom levels" as base image and only display the a part of it matching the final image size and fitting all items to be displayed. Straight forward so far. Now I came across Wikipedia's awesome blank SVG maps which contain all the country codes for easy reference and I was wondering whether it was possible to use those to have more customized colors and to highliht countries etc. So I did a bit of googling and was looking for Java libraries which would enable me to load the blank SVG map to memory allows for easy reference/selection of certain paths do manipulations of coloring, stroke widths etc render to a buffered image as the background for the great-circle paths/nodes What I came across quite often was Batik, but it looks like a really heavy framework and I'm not quite sure whether it is what I'm looking for. I have recently played around with Raphaël a bit and I like the way it handles working with vector graphics in code. If the Java framework for my purpose would feature a similar interface, that would be a nice-to-have. Any recommendations what toolset would be approriate for my purposes?

But the local variables are a bit wonky. My question is, why wouldn't these be the same? The second call seems to produce a more compact and better aligned stack. Looking at the ASM is unenlightening (at least to me), as the variable addresses are still aliased there. So I guess this is really a question about the assembler itself allocates the stack to local variables. I realise that any specific answer is likely to be platform specific. I'm more interested in a general explanation unless this quirk really is platform specific. For the record though, I'm compiling with VS2010 on a 64bit Intel machine.

  • When HDD becomes full, how to create a symbolic link to the data store on another disk?

    I have a Linux Ubuntu machine which has an X GB hard disk. There is folder, say, /opt/software/data. The disk /dev/sda1 is almost full and I have attached another disk at /dev/sda2 which is mounted at /hdd2. Is it possible for me to link the folders /opt/software/data with /hdd2/software/data so, that every file get stored in the /hdd2/software/data but may be referred from the /opt/software/data? I can't do a reinstall of the software that creates this data, to change the default location of storage.

    Hi, In order to Unit-Test a feature, I need to fake DateTime.Now. Something like: SupposeNowIs(new DateTime(..)); I can either use a third library that does it, or write my own little class. What do you recommand? Do you know any good library for this purpose? How would you fake time in C#? By changing DateTime.Now? (I suppose it's read only?). Thank you!
