• Issues with MIPS interrupt for tv remote simulator

  Hello I am writing a program for class to simulate a tv remote in a MIPS/SPIM enviroment. The functions of the program itself are unimportant as they worked fine before the interrupt so I left them all out. The gaol is basically to get a input from the keyboard by means of interupt, store it in $s7 and process it. • UITableView : crash when adding a section footer view in empty section

  Hi everyone, This is the first time I ask a question here, but I have to say this site has been a tremendous help for me over the last couple months (iphone-dev-wise), and I thank you for that. However, I didn't find any solution for this problem I'm having: I have a UITableView with 2 sections, and no rows when the app is launched for the first time. The user can fill the sections later on as he wishes (the content is not relevant here). The UITableView looks good when filled with rows, but looks pretty ugly when there is none (the 2 header sections are stuck together with no white space in between). That is why I'd like to add a nice "No row" view in between when there is no row. • problem with sIFR 3 not displaying in IE just getting XXX

  I am having a problem with sIFR 3 not displaying in IE. I get 3 larges black XXX in IE yet it displays fine in Firefox. I have checked i do have the most recent version of flash installed correctly.   I'm trying to create an html table for order logs for customers. But the problem is evaluating ViewData.Model.Orders.Count() literally takes about 10 minutes. I've tried with the ViewData.Model.Orders.Count property instead, and the results are the same - takes forever. I've also tried calling _repository.GetOrders().ByCustomerID(custID).Count() directly from the view and that executes perfectly within a few ms. Can anybody see any reason why using the LazyList to get a simple count would take so long? It seems like its trying to iterate through the list when getting a simple count.

  Hello. How do I make sure that the textview is shown and the keyboard is not obscuring the textview, while in landscape. Using UICatalog I created a TextViewController which works. In it there are two methods for calling the keyboard and making sure that textView is positioned above the keyboard. his just works great in Portrait mode. I got the Landscape mode working, but on the textView is still being put to the top of the iPhone to compensate for the keyboard in portrait mode. I changed the methods for showing the keyboards.   I am trying to select rows from a table where one of the (NVARCHAR) columns is within a numeric range. SELECT ID, Value FROM Data WHERE ISNUMERIC(Value) = 1 AND CONVERT(FLOAT, Value) < 66.6 Unfortunately as part of the SQL spec the AND clauses don't have to short circuit (and don't on MSSQL Server EE 2008). More info: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/789231/is-the-sql-where-clause-short-circuit-evaluated My next attempt was to try this to see if I could achieve delayed evaluation of the CONVERT SELECT ID, Value FROM Data WHERE (CASE WHEN ISNUMERIC(Value) = 1 THEN CONVERT(FLOAT, Value) < 66.6 ELSE 0 END) but I cannot seem to use a < (or any comparison) with the result of a CONVERT. It fails with the error Incorrect syntax near '<'. I can get away with SELECT ID, CONVERT(FLOAT, Value) AS Value FROM Data WHERE ISNUMERIC(Value) = 1 So the obvious solution is to wrap the whole select statement in another SELECT and WHERE and return the converted values from the inner select and filter in there where of the outer select. Unfortunately this is where my Linq-to-sql problem comes in. I am filtering not only by one range but potentialy by many, or just by the existance of the record (there are some date range selects and comparisons I've left out.) Essentially I would like to be able to generate something like this: SELECT ID, TypeID, Value FROM Data WHERE (TypeID = 4 AND ISNUMERIC(Value) AND CONVERT(Float, Value) < 66.6) OR (TypeID = 8 AND ISNUMERIC(Value) AND CONVERT(Float, Value) > 99) OR (TypeID = 9) (With some other clauses in each of those where options.) This clearly doesn't work if I filter out the non-ISNUMERIC values in an inner select. As I mentioned I am using Linq-to-sql (and PredicateBulider) to build up these queries but unfortunately Datas.Where(x => ISNUMERIC(x.Value) ? Convert.ToDouble(x.Value) < 66.6 : false) Gets converted to this which fails the initial problem.   I've been fighting left and right with rails 3 and bundler. There are a few gems out there that don't work properly if the rails application hasn't been loaded yet. factory_girl and shoulda are both examples, even on the rails3 branch. Taking shoulda as an example, when trying to run rake test:units I get the following error: DEPRECATION WARNING: RAILS_ROOT is deprecated! Use Rails.root instead. Obviously the rails app has yet to be initialized. With Rails3 using Bundler now, there's been some hubub over on the Bundler side about being able to specify an order in which the gems are required, but I'm not sure whether or not this would solve the problem at hand. Ultimately my questions is this: When exactly does the environment.rb file (which actually initializes the application) get pulled in? Is there any harm to bumping up when the app is initialized and have it happen before the Bundler.require line in config/application.rb? I've tried to hack bundler to specify the order myself, and have the rails gem pulled in first, but it doesn't appear to me that requiring the rails gem actually initializes the application.   Hey, I'm having some difficulty with CSS and IE6 compatibility. URL: http://bit.ly/dlX7cS Problem #1: I put a background image on the fieldset around Canada and United States. In IE6 and IE7, the background bleeds above the border-top of the fieldset. So, I found a fix. Also, any suggestion on where I can download working copy of IE6? Problem #2: I have a Google Map embedded using iframe. The width of that iframe is 515px. In Firefox, Chrome, IE7 -- that is the correct alignment. But in IE6, it gets <br/> underneath the Just Energy paragraph beside it. It doesn't fit. I have to change width to 513px for it to fit. Uhm, anyone know where those 2px of difference happen? Each sub-Content has a parent Package, which may or may not be the same Package as the top Content (ie a many-to-one relationship for Content to Package). The relationships are required to be ManyToOne (Package to Content) and ManyToMany (Content to sub-Contents) but for the case I am currently testing each sub-Content only relates to one Package or Content. The problem is that when I delete a Package and flush the session, I get a Hibernate error stating that I'm violating a foreign key constraint on table subcontents, with a particular content_id still referenced from table subcontents. I've tried specifically (recursively) deleting the Contents before deleting the Package but I get the same error. Is there a reason why this entity tree is not being deleted properly? EDIT: After reading answers/comments I realised that a Content cannot have multiple Packages, and a sub-Content cannot have multiple parent-Contents, so I have modified the annotations from ManyToOne and ManyToMany to OneToOne and OneToMany. Unfortunately that did not fix the problem. I have also added the bi-directional link from Content back to the parent Package which I left out of the simplified code.

I have a basic version of this query implemented, but it's inefficient and slow. One way I know I can improve it is by condensing the many individual queries I'm using to assemble the objects into bulk queries. I just learned that was possible. But I'm also thinking about a more extensive redesign that utilizes memcache. The main problem is that I can't query the datastore by location because GAE won't allow multiple numerical comparison statements (<,<=,=,) in one query. I'm already using one for date, and I'd need TWO to check both latitude and longitude, so it's a no go. Currently, my algorithm looks like this: 1.) Query by date and select 2.) Use destination function from geopy's distance module to find the max and min latitude and longitudes for supplied distance 3.) Loop through results and remove all with lat/lng outside max/min 4.) Loop through again and use distance function to check exact distance, because step 2 will include some areas outside the radius. Remove results outside supplied distance (is this 2/3/4 combination inefficent?) 5.) Assemble many-to-many lists and attach to objects (this is where I need to switch to bulk operations) 6.) Return to client Here's my plan for using memcache.. let me know if I'm way out in left field on this as I have no prior experience with memcache or server caching in general. -Keep a list in the cache filled with "geo objects" that represent all my data. These have five properties: latitude, longitude, event_id, event_type (in anticipation of expanding beyond tournaments), and start_date. This list will be sorted by date. -Also keep a dict of pointers in the cache which represent the start and end indices in the cache for all the date ranges my app uses (next week, 2 weeks, month, 3 months, 6 months, year, 2 years). -Have a scheduled task that updates the pointers daily at 12am. -Add new inserts to the cache as well as the datastore; update pointers. Using this design, the algorithm would now look like: 1.) Use pointers to slice off appropriate chunk of list based on supplied date. 2-4.) Same as above algorithm, except with geo objects 5.) Use bulk operation to select full tournaments using remaining geo objects' event_ids 6.) Assemble many-to-manys 7.) Return to client Thoughts on this approach? • XCode linking error when targeting armv7.

  I've already spent countless hours puzzling over this, utilizing Google searches and other Stack Overflow questions to no avail. I have an iPhone/iPad universal application, which seems to compile fine when the target is armv6. However, when the device is iPad, I get this warning: warning: building for SDK 'Device - iPhone OS 3.2' requires an armv7 architecture. Oddly enough, the app still runs great on iPad in spite of this warning. However, I do want to do things the "right way" what ever that means in this case. When I switch the target architecture to armv7, I get linking errors: "___restore_vfp_d8_d15_regs", referenced from: *redacted* "___save_vfp_d8_d15_regs", referenced from: *redacted* ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status The "redacted" portions of the errors are references to the static library to which I'm trying to link. Here's what I've tried from the many suggestions online. Each of these were suggested more than once without any explanation, which leads me to believe nobody quite understands this problem: "Never use the drop down menu in the upper left of the XCode window to choose the target. Instead, set this to Base SDK and then the Base SDK to iPhone OS 3.0 in the target configuration. Set the target device to your preferred target (iPad, iPhone OS 3.2 in my situation.)" This yields the error "Library not found for -lcrt1.3.1.o" "Make sure that GCC isn't linking against the wrong version of the standard library. (You'll have to make sure the LIBRARY_SEARCH_PATH doesn't have the wrong path in it.)" My LIBRARY_SEARCH_PATH is already empty, so this doesn't seem relevant. "Try compiling with GCC 4.0 rather than GCC 4.2." I get a syntax error inside a UIKit header file. The error is "Syntax error before 'AT_NAME' token." The line is "UIKIT_EXTERN @interface UILocalizedIndexedCollation : NSObject." Another project compiles just fine with the same target settings, which is really making me question my sanity. Could I be dealing with a corrupt XCode project? If anyone knows what's actually happening and has a reference or doesn't mind explaining it, I would be so very grateful. Cheers!

• Doubt about adopting CI (Hudson) into an existing automated Build Process (phing, svn)

  OUR CURRENT BUILD PROCESS We're a small team of developers (2 to 4 people depending on project) who currently use Phing to deploy code to a staging environment, before going live. We keep our code in a SVN repo, where the trunk holds current active development and, at certain times, we do make branches that we test and then (if successful), tag and export to the staging env. If everything goes well there too, we finally deploy'em in production servers. Actions are highly automated, but always triggered by human intervention. THE DOUBT We'd now like to introduce Continuous Integration (with Hudson) in the process; unfortunately we have a few doubts about activity syncing, since we're afraid that CI could somewhat interfere with our build process and cause certain problems. Considering that an automated CI cycle has a certain frequency of automatically executed actions, we in fact only see 2 possible cases for "integration", each with its own problems: Case A: each CI cycle produces a new branch with its own name; we do use such a name to manually (through phing as it happens now) export the code from the SVN to the staging env. The problem I see here is that (unless specific countermeasures are taken) the number of branches we have can grow out of control (let's suppose we commit often, so that we have a fresh new build/branch every N minutes). Case B: each CI cycle creates a new branch named 'current', for instance, which is tagged with a unique name only when we manually decide to export it to staging; the current branch, at any case is then deleted, as soon as the next CI cycle starts up. The problem we see here is that a new cycle could kick in while someone is tagging/exporting the 'current' branch to staging thus creating an inconsistent build (but maybe here I'm just too pessimist, since I confess I don't know whether SVN offers some built-in protection against this). With all this being said, I was wondering if anyone with similar experiences could be so kind to give us some hints on the subject, since none of the approaches depicted above looks completely satisfing to us. • Dojo extending dojo.dnd.Source, move not happening. Ideas?

  Hey all, Ok... I have a simple dojo page with the bare essentials. Three UL's with some LI's in them. The idea si to allow drag-n-drop among them but if any UL goes empty due to the last item being dragged out, I will put up a message to the user to gie them some instructions. In order to do that, I wanted to extend the dojo.dnd.Source dijit and add some intelligence. It seemed easy enough. To keep things simple (I am loading Dojo from a CDN) I am simply declating my extension as opposed to doing full on module load. The problem is this - list1 will happily accept items from lists 2 & 3 who will move or copy as apprriate. However lists 2 & 3 refuce to accept items from list1. It is as if the DND operation is being cancelled, but the debugger does show the dojo.dnd.Source.prototype.onDndDrop.call happening, and the paramaters do look ok to me. Now, the documentation here is really weak, so the example I took some of this from may be way out of date (I am using 1.4). Can anyone fill me in on what might be the issue with my extension dijit? • How much abstraction is too much?

  In an Object Oriented Program: How much abstraction is too much? How much is just right? I have always been a nuts and bolts kind of guy. I understood the concept behind high levels of encapsulation and abstraction, but always felt instinctively that adding too much would just confuse the program. I always tried to shoot for an amount of abstraction that left no empty classes or layers. And where in doubt, instead of adding a new layer to the hierarchy, I would try and fit something into the existing layers. However, recently I've been encountering more highly abstracted systems. Systems where everything that could require a representation later in the hierarchy gets one up front. This leads to a lot of empty layers, which at first seems like bad design. However, on second thought I've come to realize that leaving those empty layers gives you more places to hook into in the future with out much refactoring. It leaves you greater ability to add new functionality on top of the old with out doing nearly as much work to adjust the old. The two risks of this seem to be that you could get the layers you need wrong. In this case one would wind up still needing to do substantial refactoring to extend the code and would still have a ton of never used layers. But depending on how much time you spend coming up with the initial abstractions, the chance of screwing it up, and the time that could be saved later if you get it right - it may still be worth it to try. The other risk I can think of is the risk of over doing it and never needing all the extra layers. But is that really so bad? Are extra class layers really so expensive that it is much of a loss if they are never used? The biggest expense and loss here would be time that is lost up front coming up with the layers. But much of that time still might be saved later when one can work with the abstracted code rather than more low level code. So when is it too much? At what point do the empty layers and extra "might need" abstractions become overkill? How little is too little? Where's the sweet spot? Are there any dependable rules of thumb you've found in the course of your career that help you judge the amount of abstraction needed?

• Admob in iPhone with Tabbar and TableView

  I'm having tab bar with 5 buttons. Out of 5 tabs, 2 are table views which uses navigation controller for showing sub views on click of cell. Above the tab bar, in each view I left some space for ads using "Admob". I'm adding ads using IB. But its giving EXC_BAD_ACCESS when its reaching "adMobAd = [AdMobView requestAdWithDelegate:self];" in AdViewController.m I'm using following lines of code to add views to tab bar view. In my code, I just added ads to LatestNews only. Can some one help me out of this problem. • JQuery Tooltip Plugin from Jorn

  I am thinking someone may have run across this one, but not sure. From a high level, I am trying to roll over a input [type=text] and display a tool tip (with the contained value) using the plugin available at http://bassitance.de. I have to use titles and classes for validation on the specific elements, so I put a blank div to hold the input [type=text] value for the roll over. Issue: It won't hold the value of 2 text boxes at once. Once I put a value in the box on the right, the tooltip on the left goes away. Same thing if I switch it aroun. I can't keep a tooltip on more than one element. • Can't interact with children of an itemRenderer in Flex 4 Gumbo

  I thought this would be pretty easy but I'm running into all sorts of problems with this. I have an ItemRenderer with a an image and two labels. I want to assign separate mouse events to the image and two labels. It seems like the item renderer is treated like a single interactive piece and I haven't found a way to override that. I couldn't even disable the default rollover effect so I had to style the rollOverColor to match my background.
