• Checkboxes will not check in IE7 using Javascript, and yet no errors

  Okay I'm totally confused on this one. I have a script that receives a bunch of values from a JSON object and creates a bunch of checkboxes and either checks or unchecks a these checkboxes based on their values. This script treats me like a woman treats me... "If you don't know what's wrong, then I'm not going to tell you..." The script works correctly in IE8, Firefox3, etc... etc... However... In IE7 the script fails to check off the checkboxes. It displays no errors and from what I can tell, the script runs just fine. • What git branching models actually work - the final question

  In our company we have successfully deployed git and we are currently using a simple trunk/release/hotfixes branching model. However, this has it's problems, I have some key issues of confusion in the community which would be awesome to have answered here. Maybe my hopes for an Alexander stroke are too great, quite possibly I'll decompose this question into more manageable issues, but here's my first shot. Workflows / branching models - below are the three main descriptions of this I have seen, but they are partially contradicting each other or don't go far enough to sort out the subsequent issues we've run into (as described below). Thus our team so far defaults to not so great solutions. Are you doing something better? gitworkflows(7) Manual Page (nvie) A successful Git branching model (reinh) A Git Workflow for Agile Teams Merging vs rebasing (tangled vs sequential history) - the bids on this are as confusing as it gets. Should one pull --rebase or wait with merging back to the mainline until your task is finished? Personally I lean towards merging since this preserves a visual illustration of on which base a task was started and finished, and I even prefer merge --no-ff for this purpose. It has other drawbacks however. Also many haven't realized the useful property of merging - that it isn't commutative (merging a topic branch into master does not mean merging master into the topic branch). I am looking for a natural workflow - sometimes mistakes happen because our procedures don't capture a specific situation with simple rules. For example a fix needed for earlier releases should of course be based sufficiently downstream to be possible to merge upstream into all branches necessary (is the usage of these terms clear enough?). However it happens that a fix makes it into the master before the developer realizes it should have been placed further downstream, and if that is already pushed (even worse, merged or something based on it) then the option remaining is cherry-picking, with it's associated perils... What simple rules like such do you use? Also in this is included the awkwardness of one topic branch necessarily excluding other topic branches (assuming they are branched from a common baseline). Developers don't want to finish a feature to start another one feeling like the code they just wrote is not there anymore How to avoid creating merge conflicts (due to cherry-pick)? What seems like a sure way to create a merge conflict is to cherry-pick between branches, they can never be merged again? Would applying the same commit in revert (how to do this?) in either branch possibly solve this situation? This is one reason I do not dare to push for a largely merge-based workflow. How to decompose into topical branches? - We realize that it would be awesome to assemble a finished integration from topic branches, but often work by our developers is not clearly defined (sometimes as simple as "poking around") and if some code has already gone into a "misc" topic, it can not be taken out of there again, according to the question above? How do you work with defining/approving/graduating/releasing your topic branches? Proper procedures like code review and graduating would of course be lovely, but we simply cannot keep things untangled enough to manage this - any suggestions? integration branches, illustration please? • Remote JMS connection still using localhost

  I have a created a JMS Connection Factory on a remote glassfish server and want to use that server from a java client app on my local machine. I have the following configuration to get the context and connection factory: Properties env = new Properties(); env.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial", "com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialInitContextFactory"); env.setProperty("java.naming.factory.url.pkgs", "com.sun.enterprise.naming"); env.setProperty("java.naming.factory.state", "com.sun.corba.ee.impl.presentation.rmi.JNDIStateFactoryImpl"); env.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost", JMS_SERVER_NAME); env.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort", "3700"); initialContext = new InitialContext(env); TopicConnectionFactory topicConnectionFactory = (TopicConnectionFactory) initialContext.lookup("jms/MyConnectionFactory"); topicConnection = topicConnectionFactory.createTopicConnection(); topicConnection.start(); This seems to work and when I delete the ConnectionFactory from the glassfish server I get a exception indicating that is can't find jms/MyConnectionFactory as expected. However when I subsequently use my topicConnection to get a topic it tries to connect to localhost:7676 (this fails as I am not running glassfish locally). If I dynamically create a topic: TopicSession pubSession = topicConnection.createTopicSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE); Topic topic = pubSession.createTopic(topicName); TopicPublisher publisher = pubSession.createPublisher(topic); Message mapMessage = pubSession.createTextMessage(message); publisher.publish(mapMessage); and the glassfish server is not running locally I get the same connection refused however, if I start my local glassfish server the topics are created locally and I can see them in the glassfish admin console. In case you ask I do not have jms/MyConnectionFactory on my local glassfish instance, it is only available on the remote server. I can't see what I am doing wrong here and why it is trying to use localhost at all. Any ideas? Cheers, James

• How can I "git log" only code published to trunk?

  At my workplace we have a "master" trunk branch that represents published code. To make a change, I check out a working copy, create a topic branch, commit to the topic branch, merge the topic branch into master, and push. For small changes, I might commit directly to master, then push. My problem is that when I use "git log", I don't care about my topic branches in my local working copy. I only want to see the changes to the master branch on the remote, shared git server. What's more, if I use --stat or -p or one of their friends, I want to see the files and changes associated with the merge commit to master, not associated to their original branch commits (which, like I said, I don't want to see at all). How do I go about doing this?

I'm assuming I'm overcomplicating this though nothing I've tried seems to work. Each topic in my forum can have related topic IDs stored in a seperate table. A post ID is also stored in this table, as that specific post references why they are considered related.   In a simple LightsOut game, when I click on a light I need to toggle the image on a button. I'm doing this with Tkinter, so I thought I'd just check and see what image is currently on the button (either 'on.gif' or 'off.gif') and set it to the other one, like this: def click(self,x,y): if self.buttons[x][y].image == self.on: self.buttons[x][y].config(image=self.off) self.buttons[x][y].image == self.off else: self.buttons[x][y].config(image=self.on) self.buttons[x][y].image == self.on This ends up always being True - I can turn a lgiht off, but never turn it back on. Did some research, realized that I should probably be using cmp: def click(self,x,y): if cmp(self.buttons[x][y].image,self.on) == 0: self.buttons[x][y].config(image=self.off) self.buttons[x][y].image == self.off else: self.buttons[x][y].config(image=self.on) self.buttons[x][y].image == self.on But that gave me the exact same result. Both self.on and self.off are PhotoImage objects. Aside from keeping a separate set of lists which tracks what type of light is in each position and redrawing them every click, is there a way to directly compare two PhotoImage objects like this?

  I could swear that just a couple of months ago I downloaded a copy of the Java 1.5 SE JDK and I did not have to give them information on my first born. Today, I had to go through the register-and-we-will-send-you-a-link-someday dance. I have not received the link yet, so I thought I would ask about it here. What is special about the Java 5 JDK? I can get 6 just by clicking, is this a stick to get us to migrate to Java 6? Am I just not remembering doing this before? What marketing genius thought this would be a value add for Java? "If we make them sweat for the JDK they won't just delete it willy-nilly the next time?" Does everyone picture the people designing systems like this as mustache twirling Snidely Whiplash clones like I do? Did I just miss the link for the Secret Squirrel route to the download page? Finally, I am in the U.S. so I should not have to worry about export restrictions. Any thoughts?

  Hi all, How can I achieve the following result in cakephp: In my application a Topic is related to category, category is related to city and city is finally related to state in other words: topic belongs to category, category belongs to city , city belongs to state.. Now in the Topic controller's index action I want to find out all the topics and it's city and state. How can I do this. I can easily do this using a custom query ($this-Model-query() function ) but then I will be facing pagination difficulties.
