  • Strange permission errors with Windows Server 2008

    I just don't know a better way to describe my issue that is driving me nuts. I am trying to establish a test domain with virtual machines on a box that has Win7 with VMwware workstation installed. The purpouse with this domain will be so that we can try and test different situations before they go into the production network. I build a VM with WinSrv2008R2 and I am using that VM as a template to make other servers for the domain by making clones of it. Now I raise a DC with one clone and a member server with another clone - I add the server to the domain. I am following a standard procedure as always (it is not my first domain). Then I make an admin account and I am adding the admin to be a member of the Domain and Enterprise Admins group. That admin is admin with full priviledges on the DC.. no problem there. But on the other server has ... somewhat half the privileges and I cant log in via RDP. I tryed with another account. Same issues. For example (with half the privileges): I can't open the Even Viewer if I go via Start - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer. But I can open the Even Viewer via the server manager. You can notice this on the image below. I mean WTF??? I am going crazy, I haven't experienced anything similar in my three years of expertise. I already lost 3 days troubleshooting this. Could this be related with the cloning? Perhaps if I make fresh installs of WinSrv2008 there won't be any problems? I've had raised test domains as VMs on other occasions before, and there weren't any problems then. This is VMware Workstation 8. I've made clones before, on Workstation 7 it didn't had any problems. Anyone has any ideas? UPDATE: This is the info from the event log when I try to access via RDP: An account failed to log on.   • Trouble with Debian Lenny and Sphinx

    I've very basic understanding of linux systems, but I've a server which was setup a while ago to host some web apps. Recently I decided to test out and implement Sphinx but unfortunately I cant get the install to work. I'm running a Debian Lenny distro and when I try to install sphinx it says - checking MySQL include files... configure: error: missing include files. ****************************************************************************** ERROR: cannot find MySQL include files. Check that you do have MySQL include files installed. The package name is typically 'mysql-devel'. If include files are installed on your system, but you are still getting this message, you should do one of the following: 1) either specify includes location explicitly, using --with-mysql-includes; 2) or specify MySQL installation root location explicitly, using --with-mysql; 3) or make sure that the path to 'mysql_config' program is listed in your PATH environment variable. To disable MySQL support, use --without-mysql option. ****************************************************************************** I do have mysql 5.1 installed but I can't find the include files, AND one more thing..     I have a domain controller running on Windows 2008 Server R2 and users login to application servers on which Windows 2003 Server SP2 is installed. I have applied a Group Policy to clean temporary internet files on exit i.e to delete all temporary internet files when users close the browser. But the group policy doesn't seem to work as user profile size keeps on increasing and the major space is occupied by temporary internet files therefore increasing the disk usage. How can i enforce automatic deletion of temporary internet files?

  • Why Can't SSMS Access The Documents Folder in Windows 7?

    I have a database backup located in my Windows 7 Documents folder (c:\Users\Aaron\Documents...), and I'm trying to restore it using SQL Server Management Studio. However, the program is unable to access anything within the Users\Aaron directory using its non-standard file selection dialog, even when run as an Administrator. I'm brand new to Windows 7... Is there some sort of security setting that I need to trigger to give programs access to these files?

  • Java works under Firefox but not under Internet Explorer

    Java works under Firefox but not under IE. Java applet activated in security settings, activated in add-ons, activated in advanced tab; that's the advice they usually give in forums... I've also deleted my temporary internet files, reinstalled IE8 and it is also set as the default java for IE through the control panel. IE version: 8.0.6001.18702 Java version: 1.7.0_03. Windows XP SP3. Any advice? Thanks :)

  • IE8 Refuses to run Javascript from Local Hard Drive

    I have a problem that just started at work recently and the network manager is certain he did not change anything with the group policy. Anyways, here is a detailed description of the problem. My machine is Windows XP SP3, and I use IE8 to browse. We have McAffee anti-virus software that I am unable to configure. I use the following file to test... <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Javascript Test</title> </head> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> document.write("<h1>PASS</h1>"); </script> <noscript> <h1>FAIL</h1> </noscript> </body> </html> When I open this file from the C: drive, it fails every time. If I execute it anywhere else (local/remote web server or on a mapped network drive), it works just fine. When I am simply browsing the Internet, Javascript on web sites works just fine. It is only failing on files running from my C: drive. Additionally, I have had a couple other programmers in the department try this file on their C: drive, and it works fine for them. So I don't believe it is a group policy thing. I need to fix this because I do extensive testing from my C: drive, and I am accustomed to doing so. I don't want to get into the habit of moving files to a different drive just to test. Things I have tried: Enabled "Allow Active Content to Run Files on My Computer" in Options | Advanced | Security Enabled "Allow Active Scripting" in Options | Security | Custom Level Verified that "Script" was not checked as disabled in Developer Toolbar Added localhost to Trusted Sites in Options Disabled McAffee completely (momentarily, with help from network admin) Used an older DOCTYPE in my test HTML page Re-installed IE8 completely Ran regsvr32 on the JScript.dll Slammed keyboard I am sure that there is a setting somewhere that will fix this problem, possibly in the registry. I would not be surprised if it was related to the developer toolbar. At this point I do not know where else to look. Can anyone help me resolve this problem? EDIT: Regardless of the bounty, this issue is still ongoing.

    The only way I know how to open the Select Users, Computers, Service Accounts or Groups is by right clicking on a folder and selecting Properties - Security Tab - Edit - Advanced. Below is a screen shot of the window I want to access: Is there any other way to view the full list (Find Now)? I am writing documentation and I want the user to check if a user exists before creating it. I would ideally like them to access this via control panel or similar.

    I have Jira installed as a service on my Ubuntu VPS on 8080. I've successfully used ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse to point http://jira.mydomain.com to http://mydomain.com:8080 However, after login, the URL in the browser is changed to http://mydomain.com:8080/Dashboard.... Is there anyway to keep the http://jira.mydomain.com even after login, and throughout the whole user experience? Thanks, Sam
