  • Move Global.asax to iHttpModule when using ASP.NET MVC

    I have successfully created an iHttpModule to replace my Global.asax file in many Web Forms applications. But in looking at the Global.asax file in my MVC application, the methods are totally different. I'm wondering if it is still possible to create this same thing in an MVC app. I know it's not necessary and the Global.asax works just fine. I suppose I just want to have nothing but the web.config in the root directory of my application. Also, I am putting all of my classes in a separate class library project instead of a folder in my MVC application. Not sure if this makes a difference or not.

    I have two tables Customer and CustomerPhone. Customer usually has multiple phone numbers, so when i run select statement on customer 101, i will get multiple records due to the multiple phone numbers. As you see below all the "Phone" and "Fax" field belongs to CustomerPhone table. These are considered as two records in the CustomerPhone table whereas the rest of fields relate to Customer table which is a single record. What should i do to fill Phone and Fax field in this case? Should i run select statement on CustomerPhone first and then run select statement on Customer?

  • Sizing issues while adding a .Net UserControl to a TabPage

    I have a complex Windows Forms GUI program that has a lot of automated control generation and manipulation. One thing that I need to be able to do is add a custom UserControl to a newly instatiated TabPage. However, when my code does this I get automatic resizing events that cause the formatting to get ugly. Without detailing all of the different Containers that could possibly be involved, the basic issue is this: At a certain point in the code I create a new tab page: TabPage tempTabPage = new TabPage("A New Tab Page"); Then I set it to a certain size that I want it to maintain: tempTabPage.Width = 1008; tempTabPage.Height = 621; Then I add it to a TabControl: tabControl.TabPages.Add(tempTabPage); Then I create a user control that I want to appear in the newly added TabPage: CustomView customView = new CustomView("A new custom control"); Here is where the problem comes in. At this point both the tempTabPage and the customView are the same size with no padding or margin and they are the size I want them to be. I now try to add this new custom UserControl to the tab page like this: tempTabPage.Controls.Add(customView); When making this call the customView and it's children controls get resized to be larger and so parts of the customView are hidden. Can anyone give me any direction on what to look for or what could be causing this kind of issue? Thanks ahead of time.

    Hi people I got a social networking site that is running live right now.The first time I launched my site I let requiresuniqueemail=false set-up on my web.config inorder for me to create dummy accounts for testing purposes and to start up the site you know.However the site is kind of stable right now w/ almost 5k members.So I would like to set-up the requiresuniqueemail to true so that users cannot reuse their existing email address and for me to make it sure that there will be unique email ad for each site user.I know the site got like 100 users with the same email address.My question is what could be the problem I'm going to face if I do this right now(requiresuniqueemail="true") and how to do this efficiently(without errors and if possible sitewide say in the global assax)?I tested and I already got an error if I logout an account.Like say a user try to click log-out this code runs: Dim d As DateTime = DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(-1 * Membership.UserIsOnlineTimeWindow) Dim theuser As MembershipUser = Membership.GetUser() theuser.LastActivityDate = d Membership.UpdateUser(theuser) If Not Cache(Page.User.Identity.Name.ToLower() + "currentstatus") Is Nothing Then Cache.Remove(Page.User.Identity.Name.ToLower() + "currentstatus") End If Then an exception occured on updateuser() function saying System.Configuration.Provider.ProviderException: The E-mail supplied is invalid.     Hi I want to create contact form with SSL I have anonymous webapplication and won't be any login usecase, so whole webapplication must work via http:// but when user go to contact form, it must work via https:// I know how to do the redirect to https:// programatically, I've been searching how to configure SSL on IIS but it seems to not be the case?? I don't wont whole webappliation to work via https, only my contact form - how to do that and how o onfigure that? The data from my form will be passed to database, but it is not important here.

As you can see above, the GigBinder tests to see that the user has typed in an integer into the textbox with id "StartDate.Hour". If not, a model error is added to the modelstate using AddModelError. Since the gigs property gigs.StartDate.Hour is strongly typed, I cannot set its value to, for example, "TEST" if the user has typed this into the forms textbox. Hence, I cant set the value of gigs.StartDate.Hour since the user has entered a string rather than an integer. Since the Add Action returns the view and passes the model (return View(gig);) if the modelstate is invalid, when the form is re-displayed with validation mssages, the value "TEST" is not displayed in the textbox. Instead, it will be the default value of gig.StartDate.Hour. How do I get round this problem? I really stuck!

  • Windows media player control with .NET

    What I want to do is to read media files (pics and videos) from a directory and display them one by one using the WMP control (AxWMPLib.AxWindowsMediaPlayer). In its older version it was enough to check the file's duration to distinguish images from videos, the new one randomly shows movies' duration properly or as zero. Does anyone know any other way of finding out what file is being proceeded withouth checking its extension (as a file can have an extension of .abc or so)? I'll be very grateful for any help. (Sorry for my lousy English.)

  • How to build a simulation of a login hardware token in .Net

    Hi, i have a hardware token for remote login to some citrix environment. When i click the button on the device, i get an id and i can use that to login to the citrix farm. I can click the button as much as i like, and every time a new code gets generated, and they all work. Now i want to secure my private website likewise, but not with the hardware token, but with a 'token app' on my phone. So i run an app on my phone, generate a key, and use that to (partly) authenticate myself on the server. But here's the point: i don't know how it works! How can i generate 1, 2 or 100 keys at one time which i can see (on the server) are all valid, but without the server and the phone app having contact (the hardware token also is an 'offline' solution). Can you help me with a hint how i would do this? This is what i thought of so far: the phone app and the server app know (hardcoded) the same encryption key. The phone app encrypts the current time. The server app decrypts the string to the current time and if the diff between that time and the actual server time is less than 10 minutes it's an ok. Difficult for other users to fake a key, but encryption gives such nasty strings to enter, and the hardware token gives me nice things like 'H554TU8' And this is probably not how the real hardware token works, because the server and the phone app must 'know' the same encryption key. I have created a external project that contains the default and the es-Es resx files. i have mark it as PublicResXFileCodeGenerator to be able to access it from another dll. on my view i have this test <%=localization.Common.title.ToString() % when i'm run the application i always get this error "Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "localization.Common.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "localization" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed." i have read some this related to ddl signing... but i don't now if this is the problem.

  • Render asp.net repeater as-and-when chunks of html is ready (streaming)

    The problem is to render huge reports. Basically we have lots of data that get rendered in html reports (mostly using repeater or gridview). As it so happens, the data started out small and now we have tons of it. There are lots of such reports already built so total rewrite is not an option. Heck, the business is not even letting us page the data. Now server memory is shooting up each time we try to render some reports. So the question is - is there some way we can bind data to repeater and have it stream html to browser as and when chunks are ready? That way we hope to not bring all that data into app server at once. I'm thinking we'll use a datareader or something to get parts of data and render it to browser. Any pointers, links, ideas?

    Hello, I have a deployed web application project that references my Utility.dll class library. I want to make a change to the Utlity.dll and roll only that .dll out. The problem is that when I do that, I get the following error when I try to launch my site: Could not load file or assembly 'Utility, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3766481cef20a9d1' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) Is there a setting I can change so I don't have to roll out the entire web application project - only the Utlity.dll? Thanks!

    Hello, I really would like to write an app or apps for iPhone / iPad. I've never done this so far because most of my work has been in windows environment. I recently got an i7 with windows 7 and love it, and this is what I am using to do development on currently. I would love to try out writing a simple App on a mac for either an iPhone or iPad. The question I had was are there any developers using a macbook to do windows based programming as well as writing apps? And what is their setups like? (example: using bootcamp) Most importantly, is it recommended based on the experience they had doing so? any problems / performance issue?     Hello, I have a jQuery-Script to accomplish the following tasks: if a gridview in my form contains a row with a certain id, it has to be marked red. a confirm dialogue has to pop up to ask the user if he wants to do this or that. Only after using the box, it becomes red. How would I get the row to be turned red at once? Another of my problems is that the confirm box denies my page to be scrolled down. But I would like to do this if the gridview is longer than the entire page.

When the user clicks the submit button, it POSTs to a Login action in the AccountController. <% Html.BeginForm("Login", "Account", FormMethod.Post); %> In that action, it tests for Username/Password validity and if invalid, sends the user back to the Login page with a message that the credentials were bad. ModelState is lost. } But here's the problem: the ValidationSummary is always blank because we're losing the Model when we RedirectToAction. How do I send the user to the action on a different controller without a Redirect?
