  hopefully the question doesn't sound stupid, but there are lots of examples out there of achieving certain things in javascript/dom using jQuery. Using jQuery is not always an option (or even a want) which can make understanding the examples of javascript solutions written in jQuery hard. Is there an easy way to convert jQuery code to regular javascript? I guess without having to access or understand the jQuery source code... edit (future readers): pretend there is a logical reason why jQuery isn't available!

• VS2010 Database Compare. How do you create a *.DBSchema extensioned file?

  I'd like to take a snapshot of my database, make some changes and then use the db compare functionality to identify the changes, and who knows, maybe even generate scripts to make the change. I'd like to avoid having to backup the current db and restore it as a separate db just to have a "before" snapshot. I'm guessing I shouldn't have to. Obsviously, I'm clueless about db projects and am looking to be pointed in the right direction. ty!

• How can a button click method find out which item is selected in a ListView?

  I have a single screen with a bank of buttons below a ListView. Entries on the ListView light up in orange when I scroll so I assume that are selected. When I then press the "Delete" button I want the onClickListener to remove the currently selected entry. But getSelectedItemPosition() always gives me -1. If I can't hope to use the GUI controls in this way, please give me another way of getting the same result. I have even tried setting the onClickListener of the List View to store the index before the button is pressed (in case pressing the button unselects the entry) but even that is always -1 it seems.   I have a report where I need to filter out records where there is a duplicate contract number within the same station but a different date. It is not considered a duplicate value becuase of the different date. I then need to summarize the costs and count the contracts but even if i suppress the "duplicate fields" it will summarize the value. I want to select the record with the most current date.   In PHP you can create form elements with names like: category[1] category[2] or even category[junk] category[test] When the form is posted, category is automatically turned into a nice dictionary like: category[1] => "the input value", category[2] => "the other input value" Is there a way to do that in Django? request.POST.getlist isn't quite right, because it simply returns a list, not a dictionary. I need the keys too.

Compiler handles such convertions as errors and won't compile furthermore. It occurs only when I compile using Dev-C++ IDE, but when I compile the same code (using the compiler which Dev-C++ uses) such errors (even warnings) do not appears. How to mute errors of such types?

  i have this in the superview: mySubView = [[MySubView alloc] init]; [self addSubview:mySubView]; [mySubView release]; then at some point later, in the sub view, this: [self removeFromSuperview]; when i debug it, i notice that the dealloc for the subview is never called, even though i'm fairly sure the reference count should be 0. any ideas why this might be? thanks.

  I would like to start a System.Threading.Timer in my application when it launches (maybe deploy is the correct word). I have seen that you can use Application_Start() but this is only fired once the first request comes to the application. I need the timer to start as soon as the application is running so that it can check for work to process even if a user is not interacting with the site. How can I get the application to start the timer once it is up and running?

  In Solaris, gcc gives me implicit declaration of function `getopt' when compiling #include <unistd.h> #include <stdlib.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { getopt(1,argv,""); return 0; } The man page for getopt says something about including unistd.h or stdio.h, however even though I'm inluding both I still get this warning. Is this normal? Is using functions that aren't explicitly declared common in Unix development?

  My problem is the following: I have a 2-minute long WAV file, and my aim is to insert another WAV file (7 seconds long), at a certain point in the first WAV file (say, 0:48), essentially combining the two WAVs, using python. Unfortunately I haven't been able to figure out how to do that, and was wondering if there was some obvious solution that I was missing, or if it is even feasible to do with python.
