  • Browser Compatablitiy, Support, Modern Browsers and older Versions.

    This is a question to all web-developers working in the industry more than a few years. Today the server guy at my work told me that his browser didnt render a google font I used on a site properly, so I checked his browser - it was firefox 3.5. (google font Raleway).. This made me think.. I know for some of our sites its a requirement to support IE6 (larger corperate sites) but for the rest (personal sites) should I be looking at developing for all incrments of firefox, chrome, IE and safari???? Does your company still support IE6? Does your company support previous versions of modern browsers or just the latest ones? and finally, has anyone else had this problem with FF 3.5 and Google Hosted font Raleway..(the font displays extra extra thing so the font is almost unreadable) If anyones interested I found a working solution to my font problem here: http://www.jshsolutions.net/google-webfonts-cross-browser-fix-howto/ Sam

    let say i have {3, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1,5,2,7} set of numbers, I need to split the numbers such that sum of subset1 should be equal to sum of subset2 {3,2,7} {1,1,2,1,5,2}. First we should identify whether we can split number(one way might be dividable by 2 without any remainder) and if we can, we should write our algorithm two create s1 and s2 out of s. How to proceed with this approach? I read partition problem in wiki and even in some articles but i am not able to get anything.   • Randomly spawning bitmaps on cnvas

    I need some ideas in order to finish algorithm. I'm randomly placing objects (bitmaps) on canvas without overlapping. Time needed to finish it is my problem. When I need to spawn for example 80% of canvas it takes to long. So i was thinking : I should make some change when the bitmaps take off 50 % of canvas. I want to tell algorithm that it should generate new locations (x,y) where it is free space. My question is : How to render new location (x,y) in place where is free space. In summary: Things I know : object location (x,y) 4 corners (x,y) of object object width, height canvas width, height Any suggestions?

Don't get me wrong grammers are great for telling the speech recognition exactly what words / phrases to look out for, however what if I want it to recognise something i've not given it a heads up about? Or I want to parse a phrase which is half pre-determined command name and half random words? For example.. Scenario A - I say "Google [Oil Spill]" and I want it to open Google with search results for the term in brackets which could be anything. Scenario B - I say "Locate [Manchester]" and I want it to search for Manchester in Google Maps or anything else non pre-determined I want it to know that 'Google' and 'Locate' are commands and what comes after it are parameters (and could be anything). Question : Does anyone know how to mix the use of pre-determined grammers (words the speech recognition should recognise) and words not in its pre-determined grammer?   • Is using build-in sorting considered cheating in practice tests?

    I am using one of the practice online judges where a practice problem is asked and one submits the answer and gets back if it is accepted or not based on test inputs. My question is the following: In one of the practice tests, I needed to sort an array as part of the solution algorithm. If it matters the problem was: find 2 numbers in an array that add up to a specific target. As part of my algorithm I sorted the array, but to do that I used Java's quicksort and not implement sorting as part of the same method. To do that I had to do: java.util.Arrays.sort(array); Since I had to use the fully qualified name I am wondering if this is a kind of "cheating". (I mean perhaps an online judge does not expect this) Is it? In a formal interview (since these tests are practice for interview as I understand) would this be acceptable?
