  • Android & Web: What is the equivalent style for the web?

    - by Legend
I am quite impressed by the workflow I follow when developing Android applications: Define a layout in an xml file and then write all the code in a code-behind style. Is there an equivalent style for the web? I mean, with a predefined list of widgets that can be defined using a markup language and then control them using code? I have come across Google's Web Toolkit that does something like this but I'd like to hear what other's think as well.

  • how to store assembly in memory

    - by da cheng
Hi, I have a question about how to store the assembly language in memory, when I compile the C-code in assembly, and run by "step", I can see the address of each instruction, but is there a way to change the start address of the code in the memory? Second question is, can I break the assembly code into two? I am curious about how the machine store the assembly code. BTW, I am working on a MACBOOK Pro, duo core. Thank you. -da

  • Let's improve Visual Studio 2010

    - by Knowing me knowing you
I wonder if some of you would like the idea to collect in this place features/improvements we would like to see most in visual studio, vote for them and then send them (these with the most votes) to VS Team. Maybe some of them would make their way into another release of VS. Looking forward to see what you're thinking about it.

  • Way to know if two partitions are in one physical hard disk without WMI?

    - by Alon
Hey. I have those partitions (in Windows) for example: Hard Disk 1 - Partition C, Partition D Hard Disk 2 - Partition E Is there any way in a program language to know if for example partition C and partition D are in one physical hard disk without WMI? I don't want to use WMI because it's slow - for this example, it took for me 0.5 seconds. I need it to be fast. Thank you.

  • C struct memory layout?

    - by Eonil
I have C# background. Very newbie to low level language like C. In C#, memory layout by compiler by default, and I have to specify some special attribute to override this behavior for exact layout. As I know, C does not re-align by default. But I heard there's a little re-aligning behavior which very hard to find. Can I know about C's memory layout behavior? (what should be re-aligned and not)

  • accessing SQL syntax reference in mysql workbench

    - by dcompiled
Finding it a little bit tedious migrating to the new Mysql Workbench (5.2.22) even though it has many more features than the older GUI tools. Right now I'm confused why I can't find an SQL reference when I open the Doc Library. Is there a way to access this info within the workbench, I'd prefer not to have to open a browser to access reference info on the web.

  • cmd line SQL server 2008 express install

    - by Balaram
hi, I am trying to install SQL server 2008 express on windows 7 64 bit machine using the following command: Setup.exe /qs /Action=Install /Features=SQL /InstanceName=XXX /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="Builtin\Administrators" /SQLSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" I can not access the database and get "access denied" error. I narrowed down the issue to the /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="Builtin\Administrators" parameter not working. When I change this parameter value to currnet user or try manual install it works Any idea is appreciated.

  • Accessing Erlang business layer via REST

    - by Polyn
For a college project i'm thinking of implementing the business layer in Erlang and then accessing it via multiple front-ends using REST. I would like to avail of OTP features like distributed applications, etc. My question is how do I expose gen_server calls/casts to other applications? Obviously I could make RPC calls via language specific "bridges" like OTP.net or JInterface, but I want a consistent way to access it like REST.

  • Project Implementation estimates with TDD

    - by panzerschreck
Are there any guidelines when quoting estimates for projects/tasks involving TDD? For example, when compared to normal development of a task taking 1 day to complete, how much more should a TDD driven task take? 50% more time or 70% more time? Are there any statistics available, assuming the developer is well versed with the language and the test framework?

  • I've heard that LaTeX is Turing complete. Are there any programs written in LaTeX?

    - by ire_and_curses
It's possible to do interesting things with what would ordinarily be thought of as typesetting languages. For example, you can construct the Mandelbrot set using postscript. It is suggested in this MathOverflow question that LaTeX may be Turing-complete. This implies the ability to write arbitrary programs (although it may not be easy!). Does anyone know of any concrete example of such a program in LaTeX, which does something highly unusual with the language?

I would like code like this: (define-struct thing (a b c)) (define th (make-thing 1 2 3)) to print something like this: (make-thing 1 2 3) when I type "th" into either the DrScheme or MzScheme repl. I am using the language "pretty big" in DrScheme with output style set to "constructor". This is what I get in DrScheme: (make-thing ...) (i literally get the three dots) In MzScheme: #<thing>
