  • How do you run the previous command in emacs shell?

    I am in terminal mode on Ubuntu, and I'm running emacs with 2 buffers open, one is a ruby file, and the other is a shell (opened by typing M-x shell ), and when I switch to the shell buffer, I want to run the same command that I ran before. I would normally just hit the up arrow in a terminal window, but in emacs, it simply puts the cursor up one line. Does anyone know of keystroke to run the previous shell command from within an emacs shell?

  • How can I transfer metadata from several flac files to aac (m4a) files?

    Suppose I have two folders, dir1 and dir2, with deveral files in each of them, and all the files in dir1 are named like "ExampleFileName.flac" and all the files in dir2 are named as "ExampleFileName.m4a" - basically their names are the same except the extension. What I need to do is transfer all of the metadata for each of the files somehow - even though their codecs are different. It would be great if I can do this via command line, but anything is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Why is a network ID not needed to connect to an IP address?

    I know how IP basically works, and knows that an IP address composed of a network ID portion and a host ID portion, but when I type a IP address, say 8.8.8.8 into the web browser, I didn't supply any subnet mask information. So, how does the browser know where the dividing line is between the network ID and host ID? Since 8.8.8.8 may mean 8.8.8.8/8, 8.8.8.8/24 etc. In a nutshell, the IP address I supplied is ambiguous.

    I would like to change the default gateway for the wired ethernet port on my laptop- the DHCP server is giving the wrong one. I would like it to revert to the existing config on a reboot. I would prefer a command line way of doing it - so I can easily repeat the command as needed. Do I need ipconfig or route - both of which confuse me.

The most documentation I've found is this line from mysql.com: If you are running under Linux and Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is enabled, make sure you have disabled SELinux protection for the mysqld process. wow ... that's really helpful.

But we found out the forced and automatic check still occurs on the underlying real disks, lets say sdb1 and sdc1. How can we switch that off?

    I have antivirus service (Kaspersky) that occasionally becomes unresponsive to the normal stop/stop gui interface provided by said vendor. I would like to find a way to kill the service for a restart without rebooting, however all attempts I have tried result in failure with an 'Access is Denied' error.     I have data of the following format that I want to input into LibreOffice calc data | num | num | num | num For some reason Libreoffice does not think the string "3214 " is a number by default (trailing white space). I want to replace '(\s)*|' with '|' where \s stands for space and * for the Kleene star operation. And do this at multiple places in each line (all matches). I tried: sed -i 's/(\s)*|/|/' DataStats0914.txt But it has no effect.
