• QLogic QLE8152 won't link up with a fiber loop

  I have a Dell R710 running Debian Linux 6.0 (Squeeze). I installed a QLogic QLE8152 CNA in the PCI-E riser today and I have been trying to get the CNA's ethernet layer to come up after I put a fiber loop on it; I also scoped it with a light meter, and the SFP+ transceiver is getting the correct amount of light. The whole time I have been working on this problem, the lights on the CNA are blinking green at a rate of about 1 flash every 3 seconds. When I plug the fiber into a Juniper EX4500 10GE in a rack next to it, the Juniper's link stays down as well. I have to confess that this is my first wrangling with a CNA, so perhaps I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, but here is what I have found so far... First the basics... • HttpRuntime.Cache scavenging default behavior?

  When adding items using the default insert method Insert(key, value) and as such using the default behavior of HttpRuntime.Cache, when does the scavenging take place? The limit on the application pool that hosts my application is 0 (unlimited)... but I see no way to find out how big the cache can get before scavenging occurs? The problem is I am caching a potentially very large amount of data but I have limited memory on the server and I want to avoid recycling of the app pool. I am asking in the context of IIS6 and IIS7. Thank you.

  Using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and a VB.NET project; I have some code which i cannot step into. The Immediate Window shows the message "Stepping over method without symbols 'Some.Namespace.Here'" How can i make sure the method always has symbols?! I need to step into every line of code. I am pressing F8 (which is "Step Into" in VS2008, from memory i think it used to be F11 in VS2005). This debugger stuff has always confused me: At the Solution level Property Pages i see a configuration dropdown with 4 values: Active (Debug), Debug, Release, All Configurations. - currently set to "Active (Debug)" At the Project level, i see a configuration dropdown with 2 values: Debug, Release. - currently set to "Debug"

• Audio recording error kAudioQueueErr_CannotStart on iPhone OS 3.0

  I'm working on a couple different iphone apps that both record and play sounds concurrently. Think multitrack mixing... play one sound a save it then listen to that sound while recording the next sound to another file. My mechanism for this has been to start up two different audio queues, one for recording, and one for playing. This was working A-OK until the release of OS 3.0... Since then, however, the following happens: If I start the recording queue first, it supposedly starts fine, but the call to AudioQueueStart for the playback queue returns kAudioQueueErr_CannotStart. If I start the playback queue first, it also supposedly starts fine, but the call to AudioQueueStart for the record queue returns the same error, kAudioQueueErr_CannotStart. Anyone have any luck debugging this error? Seems like maybe the two queues are stomping on each other's memory or something? The official description is: "The audio queue has encountered a problem and cannot start." Not super helpful... Jeremy

• Django ORM: Ordering w/ aggregate functions — None special treatment

  Hi, I'm doing query like that: SomeObject.objects.annotate(something=Avg('something')).order_by(something).all() Now, I normally have an aggregate field in my model that I use with Django signals to keep in sync, however in this case perfomance isn't an issue so I thought I'd keep it simple and just use subqueries. This approach, however, presented an unexpected issue: It all works grate if aggregate function results are like this: [5.0, 4.0, 6.0 … (etc, just numbers)] However if you mix in some Nones than it's being ordered like this: [None, 5.0, 4.0 …] The issue is that None has higher value than any number, while it should have value at most of 0. I'm using PostgreSQL and haven't tested w/ other DBs. I haven't actually checked what query is generated etc. I worked it around by just sorting in memory: sorted(…, key=lambda _:_.avg_rating if _.avg_rating is not None else 0) So I'm just curious if you know a way to do it w/ just Django ORM. Perhaps .where? or something… Kind regards

• ORA-01019 error only as an administrator

  I'm having a strange problem. I've installed the Oracle 10g client on a terminal server running Windows Server 2008R2. When I try to connect to Oracle, using, say, Toad, I receive the error "ORA-01019 unable to allocate memory in the user side". But this only happens if I'm logged in as an administrator. If I connect as a normal user, I can connect without issue. Also -- if a normal user is connected, I can then connect without a problem as an administrator. Any thoughts?

• Cross-platform embedded database/key-value store for C#

  I'm looking for a fast, embeddable key/value store with cursor semantics over key collections (or a simple embeddable DB) that I can use in .NET and mono. Need it to be open-source, would prefer an MIT or Apache style license over a GPL license. Not opposed to a library that needs bindings to be written, as long as binaries are available for both windows and linux. Options considered: SQLite - has bindings and native implementation, but single-threaded and not all that fast Embedded InnoDB - no .NET bindings i can find and it's GPLv2 Berkley DB - no .NET bindings i can find Tokyo Cabinet - no .NET bindings i can find and problematic to build on windows MadCow Memory-mapped data structures - GPLv2 Is there an option better than the above that i'm missing, or bindings for the above i don't know about?

  I've loaded an XML file as NSData into memory and parse over the elements using NSXMLParser. Although it works, it's a very ugly and hard to maintain code since there are about 150 different elements to parse. I know there are nice third-party solutions, but I want to keep it with the iPhone SDK for purpose of practice and fun. So I thought: Why not convert that XML file into an NSDictionary? Having this, I could use fast enumeration to go over the elements. Or is it just the same amount of ugly code needed to parse and process an XML right away with NSXMLParser? Would I build up an NSDictionary for every found node in the XML and create a huge one, containing the whole structure and data? Or is there an even simpler way?

• Is Interop.Domino dll thread safe ?

  Hi , I am using Interop.Domino dll version 1.2 in c# application, and using multithreading to access multiple NSF file at same time by creating new session for each thread created (Max 5 threads at a time). For the large NSF files, I was getting the Notes error like memory segment overflow. To overcome this problem, i used Marshal.ReleaseComObject(object) to release the necessary Notesdocument, and NotesView object where ever possible. Now, the issues is like, i am able to access 2 NSF files but the rest threads are going in dll exceptions as few Notes object are getting null. Kindly provide me some help.... Thanks for help.

• Embedded file system and sqlite

  I'm working on an embedded project that has no file system, and our kludge of a database has ballooned in functionality. It's now so inefficient, we can't stand it any longer. I'm trying to figure out if there's built-in support for a flat file system in SQLite. I've dug around http://sqlite.org for a while now, but haven't found anything specifically covering it. Has anyone found a supported implementation written in C? It seems like such a straightforward request, but I can't find anything written about it. We have plenty of memory available. In a perfect world, I'd like to just set aside a large portion of it, pass the FS a pointer, then let the FS/SQLite library just use what it wants.

  I have an ExpressionEngine site at http://example.com and a WordPress blog at http://example.com/blog ...the problem is, any WP pages that don't map directly to an index.php end up being handled by ExpressionEngine, which results in a 404. For example, http://example.com/blog and http://example.com/blog/wp-admin both work fine as they both directly use an index.php in those folders, but http://example.com/blog/category/tag/something gets handled by ExpressionEngine. So how can I modify the ExpressionEngine .htaccess file to tell it to ignore anything in the /blog directory? • How to change stack size for a .NET program?

  I have a program that does recursive calls for 2 billion times and the stack overflow. I make changes, and then it still need 40K resursive calls. So I need probably serveral MB stack memory. I heard the stack size is default to 1MB. I tried search online. Some one said to go properties -linker .........in visual studio, but I cannot find it. Does anybody knows how to increase it? Also I am wondering if I can set it somewhere in my C# program? P.S. I am using 32-bit winXP and 64bit win7.

I would now like to serialize the same object to Json, preferably using the Newtonsoft Json.Net library. I'd like to go directly from the .Net object in memory to a Json string (without serializing to Xml first). I do not wish to add any Json attributes to the class, but instead would like for the Json serializer use the existing Xml attributes.   Hi I'm getting a strange error when building my WCF RIA Services Silverlight project in VS2008. In the output I have this message: C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\Silverlight\v3.0\Microsoft.Ria.Client.targets(261,5): error : Failed to write the generated contents of 'C:\projects\[Path_To_Silverlight_Project]\Generated_Code\Analytics.Web.g.cs' to Visual Studio. ...and Visual Studio opens a dialog while building with the following: An editor or project is attempting to save a file that is modified in memory. Saving files during a build is dangerous and may result in incorrect build outputs in the future. Continue with save? The other members on my team seems to be doing just fine, but I can't get past this point (I can if I click 'Continue' which then generate the file just fine but I'm reluclant to do so). There must be some setup or similar that I'm missing here... PS: I'm currently on WinXP and WCF RIA Service beta

• How to quickly determine whether a file is an image file using iPhone/iPad SDK

  If I have a (potentially largish) file on disk, and I want to determine quickly whether UIImage will be able to load it. I don't necessarily trust the file extension to be reliable; I need to look at the actual data. I can (of course) load it into a UIImage, but that's relatively slow and rather memory intensive. I'd rather just peek at the first chunk of the file and make a decision. What's the fastest, most efficient way to go about this that is still fairly reliable? (Ideally, it'd be an Apple-provided API, but I didn't turn one up in my searches.) A 99.9% solution is good enough; I'm willing to have false positives in rare cases, such as when an image file has been truncated.

  ok. I have a really odd and mind boggling problem. I have two class files, both of which are NSObject inheritors. The series of code is as follows CustomClass *obj; obj = [[CustomClass alloc] init]; [myArray addObject:obj]; <--------Immediately after this line if I hover over the array it shows it as having 1 object that is out of scope. If I hover over both objects they both have what look to be initialized memory locations so I really have no idea what is going on here. Thanks in advance.

• Reuse another ASP.NET session (set Session ID)

  My problem is that when I open web application from Outlook in a separate IE window, the ASP.NET session is lost. This is (as described in several places) because in-memory cookie is lost. So it goes like this: User works with ASP.NET web application in Outlook, and this stores some info in ASP.NET session User clicks Print to open new IE window with print-ready data The new window has different ASP.NET session ID and can't access old data. I think, maybe, if I pass ASP.NET session ID to new IE window, I can somehow "attach" to that session? Tell ASP.NET that this is the one that I need to be current?
