  • Recommendations of a high volume log event viewer in a Java enviroment

    - by Thorbjørn Ravn Andersen
    I am in a situation where I would like to accept a LOT of log events controlled by me - notably the logging agent I am preparing for slf4j - and then analyze them interactively. I am not as such interested in a facility that presents formatted log files, but one that can accept log events as objects and allow me to sort and display on e.g. threads and timelines etc. Chainsaw could maybe be an option but is currently not compatible with logback which I use for technical reasons. Is there any project with stand alone viewers or embedded in an IDE which would be suitable for this kind of log handling. I am aware that I am approaching what might be suitable for a profiler, so if there is a profiler projekt suitable for this kind of data acquisition and display where I can feed the event pipe, I would like to hear about it). Thanks for all feedback Update 2009-03-19: I have found that there is not a log viewer which allows me to see what I would like (a visual display of events with coordinates determined by day and time, etc), so I have decided to create a very terse XML format derived from the log4j XMLLayout adapted to be as readable as possible while still being valid XML-snippets, and then use the Microsoft LogParser to extract the information I need for postprocessing in other tools.

  • Java How to call method of grand parents?

    - by Arkaha
    Let's assume I have 3 classes A, B and C, each one extending the previous one. How do I call the code in A.myMethod() from C.myMethod() if B also implements myMethod? class A { public void myMethod() { // some stuff for A } } class B extends A { public void myMethod() { // some stuff for B //and than calling A stuff super.myMethod(); } } class C extends B { public void myMethod() { // some stuff for C // i don't need stuff from b, but i need call stuff from A // something like: super.super.myMethod(); ?? how to call A.myMethod(); ?? } }

  • Example of ==, equals and hashcode in java

    - by Abhishek Jain
    Given this: String s1= new String("abc"); String s2= new String("abc"); String s3 ="abc"; System.out.println(s1==s3); System.out.println(s1==s2); System.out.println(s1.equals(s2)); System.out.println(s1.equals(s3)); System.out.println(s1.hashCode()); System.out.println(s2.hashCode()); System.out.println(s3.hashCode()); Output is: false false true true 96354 96354 96354 Here == is giving false for each object but hashcode for each String object is same. Why is it so?

  • Java special characters

    - by Binaryrespawn
    Hi all, this must be quite simple but I am having great difficulty. You see I am trying to find a string within another string as follows. e = input.indexOf("-->"); s = input.indexOf("<!--"); input = input.replace(input.substring(s, e + 3), " "); The integers e and s are returning -1 in that it was not found and this is causing the replace method to fail. The test string I am using is "Chartered Certified<!--lol--> Accountants (ACCA)". I tried to creat a new string object and pass in the string as an argument as follows e=input.indexOf(new String("<!--")); This yielded the same result. Any ideas ?

  • JAVA Casting error

    - by user1612725
    Im creating a program that uses Dijksrtras algorithm, im using nodes that represent cities on an imported map, and you can create edges between two cities on the map. My problem is every edge has a "weight" where it will represent distance in minutes and i have a function where i want to see the distance between the two edges. But i keep getting the error "Cannot cast from Stad to Edge" at the line Edge<Stad> selectedEdge = (Edge) fvf.visaFörbLista.getSelectedValue(); where "Stad" represents the city and "Edge" an edge. FormVisaförbindelse fvf = new FormVisaförbindelse(); for(;;){ try{ int svar = showConfirmDialog(null, fvf, "Ändra Förbindelser", JOptionPane.OK_CANCEL_OPTION); if (svar != YES_OPTION) return; if (fvf.visaFörbLista.isSelectionEmpty() == true){ showMessageDialog(mainMethod.this, "En Förbindelse måste valjas.","Fel!", ERROR_MESSAGE); return; } Edge<Stad> selectedEdge = (Edge) fvf.visaFörbLista.getSelectedValue(); FormÄndraförbindelse faf = new FormÄndraförbindelse(); faf.setförbNamn(selectedEdge.getNamn()); for(;;){ try{ int svar2 = showConfirmDialog(mainMethod.this, faf, "Ändra Förbindelse", OK_CANCEL_OPTION); if (svar2 != YES_OPTION) return; selectedEdge.setVikt(faf.getförbTid()); List<Edge<Stad>> edges = lg.getEdgesBetween(sB, sA); for (Edge<Stad> edge : edges){ if (edge.getNamn()==selectedEdge.getNamn()){ edge.setVikt(faf.getförbTid()); } } return; } catch(NumberFormatException e){ showMessageDialog(mainMethod.this, "Ogiltig inmatning.","Fel!", ERROR_MESSAGE); }

  • Java socketserver: How to handle many incoming connections?

    - by SlappyTheFish
    I am writing a simple multithreaded socketserver and I am wondering how best to handle incoming connections: create a new thread for each new connection. The number of concurrent threads would be limited and waiting connections limited by specifying a backlog add all incoming connections into a queue and have a pool of worker threads that process the queue I am inclined to go for option 2 because I really don't want to refuse any connections, even under high loads, but I am wondering if there are any considerations I should be aware of with accepting effectively unlimited connections?

  • Type conversion between PHP client and Java webservice

    - by a1ex07
    I have a web service implemented as EJB. One of it's methods returns Map<String,String>. On client side I use php : $client = new SoapClient($wsdl,array("cache_wsdl"=>WSDL_CACHE_NONE)); $result = $client->foo($params); Everything works fine, but I would like $result-return to be an associative array. Now it looks like array(10) { [0]=> object(stdClass)#46 (2) { ["key"]=> string(4) "key1" ["value"]=> string(4) "val1" } .... I want array(10) {"key1"=>"value1", "key2"=>"value2", .... } The obvious solution is to iterate through this array and create a new array $arr = array(); foreach ($result->return as $val) $arr[$val->key] = $val->value; But I wonder if there is a better way to get an assosicative array ? Thanks in advance.

  • java - volatile keyword

    - by Tiyoal
    Say I have two threads and an object. One thread assigns the object: public void assign(MyObject o) { myObject = o; } Another thread uses the object: public void use() { myObject.use(); } Does the variable myObject have to be declared as volatile? I am trying to understand when to use volatile and when not, and this is puzzling me. Is it possible that the second thread keeps a reference to an old object in its local memory cache? If not, why not? Thanks a lot.

  • HttpServletResponse XML to Java

    - by Mike
    I am maintaining this servlet that has a HttpServletResponse response that replies back to the client an XML message. I want to take the XML message and convert it to JSON, then send the JSON back. I want to avoid writing my own JSON converter if possible. Does anyone have a good method of doing this? I googled for this: http://pvoss.wordpress.com/2009/02/26/servlet-filter-to-convert-xml-to-json/ , which is exactly what I want but they are using a hacked dom4j jar which doesn't help me.

  • Java: using endpoint to publish webservice to tomcat server

    - by Will
    hi all, i am creating a simple SOAP web service. i am to ensure that it runs on a tomcat web service. im trying to implement this with JAX-WS (see code) my question is: does the Endpoint.publish use the tomcat server to host this or is it a mini glassfish kind of server? should i be extending UnicastRemoveObject or something similiar instead? ideally it would be able to be packaged into a .WAR and dropped in the directory and just work. It doesn't seem to work with my installed tomcat server as is because it says the port is already in use. I'm using Ubuntu karmic with the tomcat6 package installed, it could also be my user doesnt have permissions to publish to the running tomcat on 8080 i hope this question is clear enough sample code: @WebService public class UserAttributes { public static void main(String[] args) { UserAttributes instance = new UserAttributes(); Endpoint.publish("http://localhost:8082/WebServices/userattributes", instance); } public string Hello() { return "Hello World"; } }

  • Returning searched results in an array in Java without ArrayList

    - by Crystal
    I started down this path of implementing a simple search in an array for a hw assignment without knowing we could use ArrayList. I realized it had some bugs in it and figured I'd still try to know what my bug is before using ArrayList. I basically have a class where I can add, remove, or search from an array. public class AcmeLoanManager { public void addLoan(Loan h) { int loanId = h.getLoanId(); loanArray[loanId - 1] = h; } public Loan[] getAllLoans() { return loanArray; } public Loan[] findLoans(Person p) { //Loan[] searchedLoanArray = new Loan[10]; // create new array to hold searched values searchedLoanArray = this.getAllLoans(); // fill new array with all values // Looks through only valid array values, and if Person p does not match using Person.equals() // sets that value to null. for (int i = 0; i < searchedLoanArray.length; i++) { if (searchedLoanArray[i] != null) { if (!(searchedLoanArray[i].getClient().equals(p))) { searchedLoanArray[i] = null; } } } return searchedLoanArray; } public void removeLoan(int loanId) { loanArray[loanId - 1] = null; } private Loan[] loanArray = new Loan[10]; private Loan[] searchedLoanArray = new Loan[10]; // separate array to hold values returned from search } When testing this, I thought it worked, but I think I am overwriting my member variable after I do a search. I initially thought that I could create a new Loan[] in the method and return that, but that didn't seem to work. Then I thought I could have two arrays. One that would not change, and the other just for the searched values. But I think I am not understanding something, like shallow vs deep copying???....

  • Java: why can't iterate over an iterator?

    - by noamtm
    I read http://stackoverflow.com/questions/839178/why-is-javas-iterator-not-an-iterable and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27240/why-arent-enumerations-iterable, but I still don't understand why this: void foo(Iterator<X> it) { for (X x : it) { bar(x); baz(x); } } was not made possible. In other words, unless I'm missing something, the above could have been nice and valid syntactic sugar for: void foo(Iterator<X> it) { for (X x; it.hasNext();) { x = it.next(); bar(x); baz(x); } }

  • Detecting incorrect key using AES/GCM in JAVA

    - by 4r1y4n
    I'm using AES to encrypt/decrypt some files in GCM mode using BouncyCastle. While I'm proving wrong key for decryption there is no exception. How should I check that the key is incorrect? my code is this: SecretKeySpec incorrectKey = new SecretKeySpec(keyBytes, "AES"); IvParameterSpec ivSpec = new IvParameterSpec(ivBytes); Cipher cipher = Cipher.getInstance("AES/GCM/NoPadding", "BC"); byte[] block = new byte[1048576]; int i; cipher.init(Cipher.DECRYPT_MODE, incorrectKey, ivSpec); BufferedInputStream fis=new BufferedInputStream(new ProgressMonitorInputStream(null,"Decrypting ...",new FileInputStream("file.enc"))); BufferedOutputStream ro=new BufferedOutputStream(new FileOutputStream("file_org")); CipherOutputStream dcOut = new CipherOutputStream(ro, cipher); while ((i = fis.read(block)) != -1) { dcOut.write(block, 0, i); } dcOut.close(); fis.close(); thanks

  • How to make prevent public key inside jar to be saved using Java code

    - by Abhijith V R
    After signing a jar , we can retrieve the public keys from jar using Certificate[] cert = jarentry.getCertificates(); Once certificate is extracted we can save this to a new keystore as trusted cert. Once this is done , then second user can sign any jar using this certificate , isn't ? I want to distribute content as jars , contents will contain properties files for a application init. I want to make sure that an user is not capable to rebuilding the property files using the certificate he extracted from jarentry. In the code which reads the jar contents i am checking that jar is signed with my certificate only and also checking that jar is not tampered with . But the issue came to my mind that if i am able to extract the cerificate from jar then why don;t a third guy ? Can any one help me in this............
