• Multiple threads modifying a collection in Java??

  Hi, The project I am working on requires a whole bunch of queries towards a database. In principle there are two types of queries I am using: read from excel file, check for a couple of parameters and do a query for hits in the database. These hits are then registered as a series of custom classes. Any hit may (and most likely will) occur more than once so this part of the code checks and updates the occurrence in a custom list implementation that extends ArrayList. for each hit found, do a detail query and parse the output, so that the classes created in (I) get detailed info. I figured I would use multiple threads to optimize time-wise. However I can't really come up with a good way to solve the problem that occurs with the collection these items are stored in. To elaborate a little bit; throughout the execution objects are supposed to be modified by both (I) and (II). I deliberately didn't c/p any code, as it would be big chunks of code to make any sense.. • Correct password for ssh key rejected when ssh-d into machine

  When I am logged into my machine directly, I can do all git operations, and when prompted for a password, the password is accepted. When I ssh into the same box and run git operations on the same repos, the password is rejected. • Deselect dates in ASP.NET Calendar Control

  I'm trying to select and de-select dates on a C# Web Calendar control. The problem I have is that I can select or deselect dates except when there is only a single date selected. Clicking on it does not trigger the selection changed event, so Ineed to do something on the dayrender event but I'm not sure what or how. Edit: Added the Pre_Render event code. This seems to work now, however it seems a little bit erratic,e.g. select date A : OK Select date B :OK deselect them both: OK select date A: Does not work, need to select it twice deselect date A : Ok Select Date C: dates A and c are selected @John Yes, I am aware that the control is part of the .NET 2.0 framework and nothing to do with C# per se.   Is there an XPath way of recovering directly one specific attribute of preceding sibling nodes of an XML node using an XPath query? In the following example, I would like to retrieve the values of the alt attribute of each img nodes that precede the div element marked with the id=marker. <content> <img alt="1" src="file.gif" /> <img alt="2" src="file.gif" /> <img alt="3" src="file.gif" /> <img alt="4" src="file.gif" /> <div id='marker'></div> </content> For this example, I want to retrieve the values 1 2 3 4. I use the following XPath query //div[@id='marker']/preceding-sibling::img in order to retrieve the node list I want <img alt="1" src="file.gif"/> <img alt="2" src="file.gif"/> <img alt="3" src="file.gif"/> <img alt="4" src="file.gif"/> As it is a node list I can then iterate on the nodes to retrieve the attribute value I am looking for, but is there an XPath way of doing it? I would have expected to be able to write something like: //div[@id='marker']/preceding-sibling::img@alt or //div[@id='marker']/preceding-sibling@alt::img but I don't even know if it is possible once you have used an XPath Axe like preceding-sibling.

• Drupal Views api, add simple argument handler

  Background: I have a complex search form that stores the query and it's hash in a cache. Once the cache is set, I redirect to something like /searchresults/e6c86fadc7e4b7a2d068932efc9cc358 where that big long string on the end is the md5 hash of my query. I need to make a new argument for views to know what the hash is good for. The reason for all this hastle is because my original search form is way to complex and has way to many arguments to consider putting them all into the path and expecting to do the filtering with the normal views arguments. Now for my question. I have been reading views 2 documentation but not figuring out how to accomplish this custom argument. It doesn't seem to me like this should be as hard as it seems to me like it must be. Leaving aside any knowledge of the veiws api, it would seem that all I need is a callback function that will take the argument from the path as it's only argument and return a list of node id's to filter to. Can anyone point me to a solution or give me some example code? Thanks for your help! You guys are great. PS. I am pretty sure that my design is the best I can come up with, lets don't get off my question and into cross checking my design logic if we can help it.

• SQL server peformance, virtual memory usage

  Hello, I have a very large DB used mostly for analytics. The performance overall is very sluggish. I just noticed that when running the query below, the amount of virtual memory used greatly exceeds the amount of physical memory available. Currently, physical memory is 10GB (10238 MB) whereas the virtual memory returns significantly more - 8388607 MB. That seems really wrong, but I'm at a bit of a loss on how to proceed. • Best way to store and deliver files on a CMS

  Hi all.. First of all, this isn't another question about storing images on DB vs file system. I'm already storing the images on the file system. I'm just struggling to find a better way to show them to all my users. I' currently using this system. I generate a random filename using md5(uniqueid()), the problem that I'm facing, is that the image is then presented with a link like this: <img src="/_Media/0027a0af636c57b75472b224d432c09c.jpg" /> As you can see this isn't the prettiest way to show a image ( or a file ), and the name doesn't say anything about the image. I've been working with a CMS system at work, that stores all uploaded files on a single table, to access that image it uses something like this: <img src="../getattachment/94173104-e03c-499b-b41c-b25ae05a8ee1/Menu-1/Escritorios.aspx?width=175&height=175" /> As you can see the path to the image, now has a meaning compared to the other one, the problem is that this put's a big strain in the DB, for example, in the last site I made, I have an area that has around 60 images, to show the 60 images, I would have to do at least 60 individual query's to the database, besides the other query's to retrieve the various content on the page. I think you understand my dilemma, has anyone gone trough this problem, that can give me some pointers on how to solve this? Thanks..

• How to deal with "partial" dates (2010-00-00) from MySQL in Django?

  In one of my Django projects that use MySQL as the database, I need to have a date fields that accept also "partial" dates like only year (YYYY) and year and month (YYYY-MM) plus normal date (YYYY-MM-DD). The date field in MySQL can deal with that by accepting 00 for the month and the day. So 2010-00-00 is valid in MySQL and it represent 2010. Same thing for 2010-05-00 that represent May 2010. So I started to create a PartialDateField to support this feature. But I hit a wall because, by default, and Django use the default, MySQLdb, the python driver to MySQL, return a datetime.date object for a date field AND datetime.date() support only real date. So it's possible to modify the converter for the date field used by MySQLdb and return only a string in this format 'YYYY-MM-DD'. Unfortunately the converter use by MySQLdb is set at the connection level so it's use for all MySQL date fields. But Django DateField rely on the fact that the database return a datetime.date object, so if I change the converter to return a string, Django is not happy at all. Someone have an idea or advice to solve this problem? How to create a PartialDateField in Django ? EDIT Also I should add that I already thought of 2 solutions, create 3 integer fields for year, month and day (as mention by Alison R.) or use a varchar field to keep date as string in this format YYYY-MM-DD. But in both solutions, if I'm not wrong, I will loose the special properties of a date field like doing query of this kind on them: Get all entries after this date. I can probably re-implement this functionality on the client side but that will not be a valid solution in my case because the database can be query from other systems (mysql client, MS Access, etc.)

• How should child views of UIScrollView report their bounds for contentSize?

  I'm looking more for advice on the correct design for a view. What I have is a UIScrollView that contains one or more custom Views I have created. My problem is, who reports to the scrollview what it's contentSize should be? I have the following: UIView +-UIScrollView +-CustomView 1 with dynamic height depending on data +-CustomView 2 with dynamic Height depending on data The UIViewController creates new instances of the custom views with data and then adds them as subviews to the UIScrollView. The problem I'm having is how to set the value of the scrollview's contentSize? Right now, I'm not doing that and the contents of the scrollview are clipped with no scrolling possible. Should the custom view call [parent setContentSize:] in its drawRect:? Should the UIViewController query the custom view after creation to get its bounds and then call setContentSize? Should I subclass the UIScrollView to override addSubView to query each subview's height? Is there something else I'm missing? I hope I explained that properly. I'm new to this and still getting a handle on things.

• Reporting Services keeps erasing my dataset parameters

  I'm using a web service and every time I change something on the dataset, it erases all my parameters. The weird thing is, I can execute the web service call from the data tab and it prompts for all my parameters, but if I click to edit the data the list is empty or if I try to preview the report it blows up because parameters are missing. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there is a way to prevent this behavior. Here is a copy of the dataset, not that I think it matters. This has to be the most annoying bug (if its a bug) ever. I can't even execute the dataset from the designer without it erasing my parameter list. When you have about 10 parameters and you are making all kinds of changes to a new report, it becomes very tedious to be constantly re-typing the same list over and over. • PDO Database Connections Problem

  Hey Everyone, Over a year ago I created my own database classes which use PDO, and handle all preparing, executing, and closing connections. These classes have been working great up until now. There are two different database severs I am grabbing from, MySQL, and MS SQL Express. I am retrieving an employee id from the MySQL server and using it to get that employees information from the MS SQL server. There are about 11k records coming from the MySQL server and my program is only making it through 1200 before crashing with an error like the following. Connection failed (odbc:Driver=FreeTDS;Servername=MSSQLExpress;Database=SMDINC) Class (PDOException) SQLSTATE[08001] SQLDriverConnect: 0 [unixODBC][FreeTDS][SQL Server]Unable to connect to data source It seems like the program is not able to connect to the data source, but it is running the exact same query about 30 times before this and having no problem. Also, I have thoroughly checked all of the data coming into the query and it all looks fine. I believe the issue may be that there are to many connections being created, but I have tried to close all connections in many different places, and nothing seems to be fixing the problem. Any debugging help, or suggestions would be appreciated! Craig Metrolis

I have tried stripping off the query portion of the URL with: String nohtml = sb.toString().replaceAll("\\<.*?>",""); where sb is a Stringbulder, but it doesn't seem to strip off the whole query substring. In an unrelated question, I'd like to use threads here because I must retrieve many URLs; how can I create a multi-thread client to improve the speed?

• SSIS - How do I use a resultset as input in a SQL task and get data types right?

  I am trying to merge records from an Oracle database table to my local SQL table. I have a variable for the package that is an Object, called OWell. I have a data flow task that gets the Oracle data as a SQL statment (select well_id, well_name from OWell order by Well_ID), and then a conversion task to convert well_id from a DT_STR of length 15 to a DT_WSTR; and convert well_name from a DT_STR of length 15 to DT_WSTR of length 50. That is then stored in the recordset OWell. The reason for the conversions is the table that I want to add records to has an identity field: SSIS shows well_id as a DT_WSTR of length 15, well_name a DT_WSTR of length 50. I then have a SQL task that connects to the local database and attempts to add records that are not there yet. I've tried various things: using the OWell as a result set and referring to it in my SQL statement. Currently, I have the ResultSet set to None, and the following SQL statment: Insert into WELL (WELL_ID, WELL_NAME) Select OWELL_ID, OWELL_NAME from OWell where OWELL_ID not in (select WELL.WELL_ID from WELL) For Parameter Mapping, I have Paramater 0, called OWell_ID, from my variable User::OWell. Parameter 1, called OWell_Name is from the same variable. Both are set to VARCHAR, although I've also tried NVARCHAR. I do not have a Result set. I am getting the following error: Error: 0xC002F210 at Insert records to FLEDG, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "Insert into WELL (WELL_ID, WELL_NAME) Select OWELL..." failed with the following error: "An error occurred while extracting the result into a variable of type (DBTYPE_STR)". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. I don't think it's a data type issue, but rather that I somehow am not using the resultset properly. How, exactly, am I supposed to refer to that recordset in my SQL task, so that I can use the two recordset fields and add records that are missing?

  Hello, I am learning asp.net but I'm finding some problems. My doubt is how to make a list of titles of news contained in a database. And in this list, each of the titles when clicked is redirected to a page where you will be able to view the news in full (Title, Body, Author ..). What I got: - A database containing a table with the news, every news is associated with an identification code (ex: "ID"). - A page where you will make the listing. (Ex: site / listofnews.aspx) - I have a page that uses the method "querystring" to know what is the primarykey the news. (Ex: site/shownews.aspx?ID=12345, where "12345" is the primarykey of the news. Once it knows what is the primarykey of the news in the database, it loads each of the fields of the page (news.aspx) with the news, this part is working ok. - The data is retrieve using the Linq, so I receive a List of "News", the class "News" as ID, Title, Body, Author.. My doubt is how to make the listing clickable. • Escaping colons in hibernate createSQLQuery

  I am confused on how I can create an SQL statement containing colons. I am trying to create a view and I am using (notice the double colons): create view MyView as ( SELECT tableA.colA as colA, tableB.colB as colB, round(tableB.colD / 1024)::numeric, 2) as calcValue, FROM tableA, tableB WHERE tableA.colC = 'someValue' ); This is a postgres query and I am forced to use the double colons (::) in order to correctly run the statement. I then pass the above statement through: s.createSQLQuery(myQuery).executeUpdate(); and I get a: Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.exception.DataException: \ could not execute native bulk manipulation query at org.hibernate.exception.SQLStateConverter.convert(\ SQLStateConverter.java:102) ... more stacktrace... with an output of my above statement changed as (notice the question mark): create view MyView as ( SELECT tableA.colA as colA, tableB.colB as colB, round(tableB.colD / 1024)?, 2) as calcValue, FROM tableA, tableB WHERE tableA.colC = 'someValue' ); Obviously, hibernate confuses my colons with named parameters. Is there a way to escape the colons (a google suggestion that mentions that a single colon is escaped as a double colon does NOT work) or another way of running this statement? Thanks.

• Virtualmin Configuration

  I am trying to get Virtualmin setup and have reached a point where my noobish sysadmin skills aren't getting the job done. This is the message I get now when I try and refresh the configuration of Virtualmin. BIND DNS server is installed, and the system is configured to use it. However, the default master DNS server XXXXXX is not a fully qualified domain name. Sendmail is only accepting SMTP connections on the following ports : 127.0.0.1 port smtp. Email from other systems on the Internet will not be accepted. This can be changed in the Sendmail Mail Server module. Please advise what I need to do to get Sendmail configured properly. Thanks!

• Nginx Restart Issues

  All of the sudden when restarting Nginx I get the following error: Restarting nginx: [alert]: could not open error log file: open() "/var/log/nginx/error.log" failed (13: Permission denied) 2011/02/16 17:20:58 [warn] 23925#0: the "user" directive makes sense only if the master process runs with super-user privileges, ignored in /etc/nginx/nginx.conf:1 the configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf syntax is ok 2011/02/16 17:20:58 [emerg] 23925#0: open() "/var/run/nginx.pid" failed (13: Permission denied) configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed On the front end part of the site loads but some files such as the CSS in particular are not loading. They exist on the server but when loading the resources directly in Chrome they say "Oops this page can't be found." I set a special group and user to run my apache files using suexec for my domain files. I think the nginx are owned by root however which I'm assuming is the problem but which nginx file ownerships would I change?

WHERE name = ?"; the select statement is -- rs = stmt1.executeQuery("SELECT hIx FROM libra.smalldb for update"); rs0 = stmt2.executeQuery("SELECT name,aff FROM libra.smalldb"); the second statement is because i need those fields as well.   I am receiving the following error when trying to use the latest puppetlabs-apache module from github (https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-apache): Error: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Error 400 on SERVER: Invalid parameter identifier at /etc/puppet/environments/apache_update/modules/apache/manifests/mod.pp:40 on node zordon.mydomain.com Warning: Not using cache on failed catalog Error: Could not retrieve catalog; skipping run My node config looks like: node 'zordon.mydomain.com' { include template::common include template::puppetagent include template::lamp User::Create sudo::conf { 'joe': priority = 60, content = 'joe ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL', require = User::Create['joe'], } } The template::lamp class is what uses apache module: class template::lamp { include myfirewall Firewall Firewall class { 'apache': } class { 'apache::mod::php': } class { 'apache::mod::ssl': } class { 'mysql::server': } } It looks like serverfault markup is getting garbled on Puppet realize statements. The User::Create and Firewall lines are just realizing a user and 2 firewall rules. I have verified that the /var/lib/puppet/lib/puppet/type/a2mod.rb type has the identifier parameter and it is the same MD5 as the server. I am using Puppet 3.0.1 on both agent and master. Any idea what may cause this?

  I'm using a code-first approach of using the Entity Framework. When I first run the application it will try to create the database matching my MVC models. However, it doesn't have permission to create it I think. I get the following error: CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. What user is trying to access the SqlServer and how can I add it's permissions to let it work? • Handle row deletion in UITableViewController

  Hello, I hava a UINavigationController. The first level is a UITableViewController, the second level just shows details on one of the items of the table view. In this detail view, I can delete the item. It deletes the underlying managed object. When I pop back to the view, I have a crash. I understand why, it's because I didn't update the cached array that contains the data. I looked at several tutorials and I don't exactly understand how am I supposed to handle deletion. Maybe I don't understand exactly where I should fetch the objects in the model. Should I do a query for every cellForRowAtIndexPath and take the item in the result at position indexPath.row? It doesn't look efficient. Should I check for changes somewhere and recache the whole query in an array. I would think CoreData would provide something more natural but I couldn't find it so far. Also, if I hard code values (e.g. :y = 1), it will render the chart properly. However, any database query will not render the chart properly. So I'm not sure exactly what the issue is.
