• Why does my CLR function keep disappearing

  Hi there. I am a rookie to SQL and here is my questions. I have some CLR sql functions and procedures. When I deploy the 1st one, everything is fine. But after the 2nd one deployed, the first one will disappear. Anyone can help me out? Thanks a lot Actually, I simply create a new SQL project in VS, adding a new function or stored procedure, click deploy, and I can see the new function in my SQL instance. Then I close that project and open a new one, repeat the above steps, OK, the 2nd function is there i my instance but the 1st one disappeared or be replaced and no longer queryable for use. Thank you for your reply. All these clr functions and procedures are in the same instance of the database.

• Unable to Connect to Management Studio Server

  I have a nasty situation. I am using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express edition locally on my pc for testing, and once tested I upload database changes to a remote server. I have a situation where I deleted the Default Database on my local machine, and instead of searching hard enough to find an answer to that problem, I uninstalled and reinstalled Management Studio. Since then Management Studio has not been able to connect to the server. Is there any help (or hope for me for that matter), out there?????   I was playing around with some code and realized that it is possible to overwrite the argument to a t-sql function. i.e., create function someFn(@date date) as begin if @date is null set @date = getdate() will set @date to be today's date if the argument was null. This appears only to make any sense if t-sql is treating their arguments as references not values. I realized that I don't actually know what the t-sql rules are for cases like this and was hoping someone could elaborate what is going on here. (I don't ever recall seeing any value vs. reference discussion with respect to t-sql code for that matter actually..)

  Here is my problem: I export a database A_DB using "export" function of Phppgadmin. The dump file A_dump.sql includes both the database structure and data. Then I try to create another blank database B_DB, and import A_dump.sql into it. Every time I do that, the transaction failed with no error reported: SQL error: In statement: Is there some logs that I can find in phppgadmin that would allow me to investigate this problem?   I am working on an enterprise level product that is designed around SQL Server Express and specifically its features (views, concurrent users, stored procedures, CASE and IF statements). Though we don't use any advanced SQL Server features, the database size limit of 4GB in the Express edition may up being a limitation. A work-around is that customers can move to more full-featured versions of SQL Server. The problem is that SQL Server Express deployment is not easy, and the installer size is huge. This is a major drawback for someone looking to try our product. You don't want end-users to not buy a product because the download is huge. Does anyone have any recommendations of a database that has a smaller footprint but all the features of Express and which can be migrated to express?

  Hi there, I'm building a CMS for my own needs, and finished planning my database layout. Basically I am abstracting all possible data-models into "sections" and all entries into one table. The final layout is as follows: Database diagram: I have yet to be allowed to post images, so here is a link to a diagram of my database. Entries (section_entries) are children of their section (sections). I save all edits to the entries in a new revision (section_entries_revisions), and also track revisions on the sections (section_revisions), in order to match the values of a revision, to the fields of the section that existed when the entry-revision was made. The section-revisions can have a number of fields (section_revision_fields) that define the attributes of entries in the section. There is a many-to-many relationship between the fields (section_revision_fields) and the entry-revisions (section_entry_revisions), that stores the values of the attributes defined by the section revision. Feel free to ask questions if the diagram is confusing. Now, this is the most complex SQL I've ever worked with, and the task of fetching my data is a little daunting. Basically what i want help with, is fetching an entry, when the only known variables are; section_id, section_entry_id. The query should fetch the most recent revision of that entry, and the section_revision model corresponding to section_revision_id in the section_entry_revisions table. It should also fetch the values of the fields in the section-revision. I was hoping for a query result, where there would be as many rows as fields in the section. Each row would contain the information of the entry and the section, and then information for one of the fields (e.g. each row corresponding to a field and it's value). I tried to explain the best I could. Again, feel free to ask questions if my description somehow lacking. I hope someone is up for the challenge. Best regards. :-)

  In F#, there's the NativePtr module, but it seems to only support 32 bit offsets for its’ add/get/set functions, just like System.IntPtr does. Is there a way to add a 64 bit offset to a native pointer (nativeptr<'a) in F#? Of course I could convert all addresses to 64 bit integers, do normal integer operations and then convert the result again to nativeptr<'a, but this would cost additional add and imul instructions. I really want the AGUs to perform the address calculations. For instance, using unsafe in C# you could do something like void* ptr = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(...).ToPointer(); int64 offset = ...; T* newAddr = (T*)ptr + offset; // T has to be an unmanaged type Well actually you can't, because there is no "unmanaged" constraint for type parameters, but at least you can do general pointer arithmetic in a non-generic way. In F# we finally got the unmanaged constraint; but how do I do the pointer arithmetic?

• BIDS Helper 1.6 Beta Release (now with SQL 2012 support!)

  The beta for BIDS Helper 1.6 was just released. We have not updated the version notification just yet as we would like to get some feedback on people's experiences with the SQL 2012 version. So if you are using SQL 2012, go grab it and let us know how you go (you can post a comment on this blog post or on the BIDS Helper site itself). This is the first release that supports SQL 2012 and consequently also the first release that runs in Visual Studio 2010. A big thanks to Greg Galloway for doing the bulk of the work on this release. Please note that if you are doing an xcopy deploy that you will need to unblock the files you download or you will get a cryptic error message. This appears to be caused by a security update to either Visual Studio or the .Net framework – the xcopy deploy instructions have been updated to show you how to do this. • TFS 2010 : Unable to add Project to a collection

  This morning I'm trying to setup Team Foundation Server 2010 to demo for my team. As this is just a demo, I thought I would install it on my Windows 7 machine which also serves as my development machine. My development machine uses Visual Studio 2008 Team Suite. I installed Team Explorer 2008 and then reapplied SP1. Finally I installed and setup TFS 2010. TFS by default gave me administrator privileges. I started up Visual Studios, and connected up to the Collection just fine. However, I'm unable to create a new project and get the follow error message: "TF30172: You are trying to create a team project either without required permissions or with an older version of team Explorer. Contact your project admin..." To check to permissions, I used my home computer which is running Visual Studio 2010. On this machine I was able to connect up to the same TFS instance and create a project no problem. So it looks as though it is a team explorer problem, but everywhere on the web people are saying not only am what I'm trying to do possible, but they have done it themselves. What am I missing to add a project to TFS 2010 under Visual Studio 2008?

• IIS rewrite rule to check for querystring and add it if its not there

  I'm trying to make a IIS URL rewrite rule that appends an URL parameter to the URL. The url parameter is hssc. So, any url that is processed through the server, needs that parameter. Keeping in mind that some urls will have their own params already, and other urls won't, and root urls, etc, sometimes it will need to add ?hssc=1 or &hssc= - so, if I have a URL that is as such: http://www.blah.com should become http://www.blah.com/?hssc=1 http://www.blah.com/index.html should become http://www.blah.com/index.html?hssc=1 http://www.blah.com/?q=5 should become http://www.blah.com/q=5&hssc=1 http://www.blah.com/index.html?q=5 should become http://www.blah.com/index.html?q=5&hssc=1 http://www.blah.com/index.html?q=5&hssc=1 should be left alone I also want it that the URL should not be hidden (as in a backend rewrite behind the scenes). I need the URL to appear in the URL, so when users copy the URL, or bookmark it, the parameter is there. I've set the condition to match it \&hssc|\?hssc - now I just need a way to write the URL, so it appears and keeps the part of the original URL that is already there.

• Ubuntu 10.04 - Add RAID 1 Array?

  I have an existing Ubuntu 10.04 desktop system setup and running on a hard drive (Drive A). I'd like to add 2 more hard drives (Drives B & C, same size) to the system and mount them as a RAID 1 array. How do I do that? I know how to create RAID arrays during the installation, but I don't want to reinstall my system, and I shouldn't have to since my system files will stay on their own drive separate from the RAID array. I've physically added both drives to the system, and formatted them as EXT3 with gparted. Ubuntu's disk utility has a "create raid" option, but it won't let me select any of my drives (it thinks they're all full). I don't mind using mdadm, but I've found several guides that are old, and give conflicting advice. Some say I have to edit an /etc/raidtab file, some say this is done automatically. So what's the current (Ubuntu 10.04) preferred way of adding a RAID 1 to an existing system? It should turn into a raid at boot, and mount itself in /home/myname/files/. Thanks!

• Add and remove letterhead in Word document

  Our company has letterheaded paper (pre-printed paper with our logo on it). Whenever we send something out by mail, we print it on that paper. However, when we send the same document via email, we convert it to a PDF file. Now the problem is: when converting a Word document to PDF, it should contain the letterhead. When printing the same document on paper, it should not (or else the letterhead would be printed twice). Currently, we are using two different Word document templates - one with letterhead, one without. So whenever we want to add or remove the letterhead, we have to create a new document with the other template and copy and paste everything over. Nasty solution. What I'm looking for is some simple way to switch the letterhead on and off. What I've tried so far: Switching the template: There does not seem to be a simple way to switch the template for an existing document. Using a picture watermark: Our letterhead goes all the way to the border of the page. (No printer supports this, of course, but it is fine for export to PDF.) Apparently depending on the current default printer, Word will not allow a borderless watermark, instead shifting the image around. Using the page header: When editing the page header, I can insert pictures at arbitrary positions, which is great. However, I could not find a way (short of macros) to enable/disable just the pictures in the header. (The text should remain there.)
