    Skype got stuck, and Windows was unable to kill the process even when the UI had disappeared. I had to restart the computer to get Skype again working.     Just to note I am not having a problem at the moment, but have had previously so it sparked my curiosity... When a computer locks up suddenly to so caps lock flashes incessantly and the only possibility to restart....how do you troubleshoot what is causing it? On Windows there would be some errors in the event log...on Linux it seems there is no opportunity for anything to be written to the log, making it hard to troubleshoot... In this case, how would you troubleshoot the problem through linux?

    I'm trying to do a nightly backup of a SQL Server 2005 database to get the leanest, smallest file that includes all the table data, stored procedures, views, and functions. I'm downloading and saving this daily in case the server isn't available and I need to just get some data out.     I think the title is pretty self explanatory :) Is it possible, under RHEL (v 5) to install 2 instances of the same packages with 32 bit support for one and 64 bits support for the other one? Obviously, the running host has a 64 bit kernel and has the compatibility libraries required. (in this case, we would need a 64 bits JDK and a 32 bits one).     Hi all, whenever i have an unclean shutdown, which is often due to power failure most of the time i get problems with amavis starting up. The error amavisd Net server pid_file already exists for running process comes when i start it under debug mode, so i always have to delete the amavisd.pid and amavisd.lock files manually before it starts. Is there a way i can stop this from happening or get a way to delete the files during reboot in the case of an unclean shutdown. Thanks

    Although iTunes produces a very good comprehensive listing of all music which can be copied and pasted into excel to give a database of music, unfortunately it does not include"where" information as shown on the "Get Info" summary. As, in my own case, music files are in a number of different locations(drives and folders) I would like to be able to identify, quickly and simply,duplicate tracks as the last column in the excel listing. Is there a way to do this?

  • Eject a bad disk from optical drive

    I have an Alienware computer with one of the optical DVD drives that does not have a manual tray, just a slot to insert the disk. I recently inserted a disk that was apparently bad. It is unreadable does not show up in Windows Explorer. I tried right clicking on the Drive letter and hitting eject, but get an error message that there is no disk in the drive. How do I get the d--ned disk out so I can use the drive?

    I installed a SSD disk in my computer and installed Windows 7 in it. I disabled defragmentation on the disk. Now when I try to partition my other disk I'm getting an error Virtual Disk Manager The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. Well, I'm not willing to enable defragmentation because it makes the lifespan of the SSD shorter. Solutions? Thanks

  • Are EC2 security group changes effective immediately for running instances?

    I have an EC2 instance running, and it belongs to a security group. If I add a new allowed connection to that security group through AWS Management Console, should that change be effective immediately? Or perhaps only after restart of the instance? In my case, I'm trying to allow access to PostgreSQL's default port (tcp 5432 5432 0.0.0.0/0), and I'm not sure if it's the EC2 firewall or PostgreSQL's settings that are refusing the connection.
