  • How to determine the Window size in IE for a window to be opened from the COM API?

    I'm using the IE control embedded in an application. Works as advertised. When a user opens a new browser window I intercept the NewWindow2 event and force it into a new tab. However for a certain class of windows I want to allow a popup. Most notably a few windows legacy applications that use popup windows instead of Ajax for Date or Name pickers. How can I figure out that a window was requested by JavaScript window.open(...) or with a specific size? Thx for helping.

Nothing works, even tried Ctrl+Alt+Del and mouse does not respond, leaving me only one option of hard reboot. I changed my monitor recently. Don't know whether it is the cause of the problem.     In the OpenSocial Data specificaiton 1.0 for a Person object (social profile data) it includes the use of a generic called Plural-Field. The spec can be found at: http://opensocial-resources.googlecode.com/svn/spec/1.0/Social-Data.xml#Person In the 1.0 data specification there is no XSD and no examples showing the use of this generic Plural-Field. After puzzeling the spec for some time I think I might understand the user of this generic. I was hoping that someone could confirm or correct my understanding. For example the accounts field is a generic Plural-Field<Account> while the activities field is Plural-Field <string>.   • USB to IDE/SATA adapter

    I have an old IDE HDD that I am trying to pull files off of. I am using a USD to IDE/SATA adapter. I plug in the power and adapter plugs into the drive and it fires up. I plug the USB plug into my XP laptop and it installs the drivers. I can see USB Mass Storage Device under Device Manager. My problem is I can't see the drive in either Windows Explorer or under Disk Management under Computer Management. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Do I have to slave the old hdd? Do I have to make BIOS changes?

    Hi I am trying to implement the java logging in my application. I want to use two handlers. A file handler and my own console handler. Both of my handlers work fine. My logging is send to a file and to the console . My logging is also sent to the default console handler, which i do not want. If you run my code you will see extra two line sent to the console. I don't want to use de default console handler. Does anyone know how to disable the default console handler. I only want to use the two hadlers i have created. I'd like to ensure that we deliver it using technology that is easy for end developers to implement and not tied to any particular platform, rather than using technology that is unpopular/incompatible with developers. The kind of requests we expect are mainly to retrieve search results (not many parameters), but down the like we'd like to be able to provide catalogue lookups and the like, which may be more complex. Bearing this in mind, what is the preferred means of doing this?

  • General Address Parser for Freeform Text

    We have a program that displays map data (think Google Maps, but with much more interactivity and custom layers for our clients). We allow navigation via a set of combo boxes that prefill certain fields with a bunch of data (ie: Country: Canada, the Province field is filled in. Select Ontario, and a list of Counties/Regions is filled in. Select a county/region, and a city is filled in, etc...). While this guarantees accurate addresses, it's a pain for the users if they don't know where a street address or a city are located (ie, which county/region is kitchener in?). So we are looking at trying to do an address parser with a freeform text field. The user could enter something like this (similar to Google Maps, Bing Maps, etc...): 22 Main St, Kitchener, On And we could compartmentalize it into sections and do lookups on the data and get to the point they are looking for (or suggest alternatives). The problem with this is that how do we properly compartmentalize information? How do we break up the sections and find possible matches? I'm guessing we wouldn't be guaranteed that the user would enter data in a format we always expected (obviously). A follow up to this would be how to present the data if we don't find an exact match (or find multiple exact matches... two cities with the same street name in different counties, for example). We have a ton of data available in the mapping data (mapinfo tab format mostly). So we can do quick scans of street names, cities, states, etc. But I'm not sure about the best way to go about approaching this problem. Sure, using Google Maps would be nice, bue most of our clients are in closed in networks where outside access is not usually allowed and most aren't willing to rely on google maps (since it doesn't contain as much information as they need, such as custom map layers). They could, obviously, go to google and get the proper location then move to our software, but this would time consuming and speed of the process can be quite important.

  • dd clone hard drive: Input/Output Error though "chkdsk" says OK

    Hi, I've used dd to clone hard drives before using 'dd' and a live cd, but have run into a problem. The issue: dd fails with an "Input/Output Error" on /dev/sda3 , even though windows "check disk" (chkdsk) says it's ok. Context: Trying to replace my laptop hard drive w/ a faster one of the same size Laptop has NTFS on a 320gb hard drive Booting into knoppix Knoppix recognizes 'original' drive (/dev/sda) I am using a usb connection for ‘new' drive (irrelevant, but just an fyi) Knoppix recognizes the usb drive as /dev/sdb Using dd, as follows: dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb "dd" gives the I/O error above at 82Gb (out of 320Gb) I then tried checking each partition as follows and found it failed on /dev/sda3: dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/dev/null dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/null dd if=/dev/sda3 of=/dev/null I have ran windows xp chkdsk on the offending drive in both "find only" and "find and fix" mode and it reports no errors Question How can I find and fix the error on my original hard drive partition (i.e. /dev/sda3) so that dd reads it successfully?

    I have BitDefender IS 2008 installed on my PC. In the last few days I have noticed the taskbar icon grumbling 1 issue requires your attention The Real-Time File Scanning is disabled and no amount of clicking "Fix" solved this issue. I have tried umpteen reboots and what have you. I really don't want to uninstall and re-install BitDefender (unless there's no other way out). How do I clear away the notification message?

    I have a development setup from this tutorial: http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2009/10/27/build-your-own-dev-server-with-virtualbox/ But what I can't figure out is how to share a folder on my Ubuntu virtualized machine with the host Win7. I want to use a Windows text editor to edit code that's on my Ubuntu server. I've tried using the Shared Folders setting, adding "/var/www" but it says that the path is not absolute. When I click on "other", it only allows me to browse folders on my Win7 host. Both the host and guest are 64-bit OS. Thanks in advance!
