• Why can't I open a JBoss vfs:/ URL?

  We are upgrading our application from JBoss 4 to JBoss 6. A couple of pieces of our application get delivered to the client in an unusual way: jars are looked up inside of our application and sent to the client from a servlet, where the client extracts them in order to run certain support functions. In JBoss 4 we would look these jars up with the classloader and find a jar:// URL which would be used to read the jar and send its contents to the client. In JBoss 6 when we perform the lookup we get a vfs:/ URL. I understand that this is from the org.jboss.vfs package. Unfortunately when I call openStream() on this URL and read from the stream, I immediately get an EOF (read() returns -1). What gives? Why can't I read the resource this URL refers to? I've tried trying to access the underlying VFS packages to open the file through the JBoss VFS API, but most of the API appears to be private, and I couldn't find a routine to translate from a vfs:/ URL to a VFS VirtualFile object, so I couldn't get anywhere. I can try to find the file on disk within JBoss, but that approach sounds very failure prone on upgrade. Our old approach was to use Java Web Start to distribute the jars to the client and then look them up within Java Web Start's cache to extract them. But that broke on every minor upgrade of Java because the layout of the cache changed.

• Problem with ScriptManager when trying to email rendered contents of ASP.NET page

  I recently added a Telerik control to an ascx that is included in an aspx page. This page has a "Send email" button, which when clicked will email the user the rendered output of the page. The Telerik control I added requires a ScriptManager, so I added that to the ascx. However, now the email button won't work. I get the following error: The control with ID 'myIdHere' requires a ScriptManager on the page. The ScriptManager must appear before any controls that need it. I know the script manager exists because the page works fine when I go that url, it is only failing when it tries to email the rendered output. Here's a code snippet, any ideas as to whether there is a problem with scriptmanager when doing this sort of thing? • Populate table fields on query execution

  I'm trying to build an ASP site that populates a Table based on the results of a selection in a ListBox. In order to do this, I've created a GridView table inside a div element. Currently the default behavior is to show all the items in the specified table in sortable order. However, I'd like to refine this further to allow for display of matches based on the results from the ListBox selection, but am not sure how to execute this. • Looking for an email template engine for end-users ...

  We have a number of customers that we have to send monthly invoices too. Right now, I'm managing a codebase that does SQL queries against our customer database and billing database and places that data into emails - and sends it. I grow weary of maintaining this every time we want to include a new promotion or change our customer service phone numbers. So, I'm looking for a replacement to move more of this into the hands of those requesting the changes. In my ideal world, I need : A WYSIWYG (man, does anyone even say that anymore?) email editor that generates templates based upon the output from a Database Query. The ability to drag and drop various fields from the database query into the email template. Display of sample email results with the database query. Web application, preferably not requiring IIS. Involve as little code as possible for the end-user, but allow basic functionality (i.e. arrays/for loops) Either comes with it's own email delivery engine, or writes output in a way that I can easily write a Python script to deliver the email. Support for generic Database Connectors. (I need MSSQL and MySQL) F/OSS So ... can anyone suggest a project like this, or some tools that'd be useful for rolling my own? (My current alternative idea is using something like ERB or Tenjin, having them write the code, but not having live-preview for the editor would suck...)

  I am trying to create a preview window for my texteditor in my blog page. I need to send the content to the server to clean up the text entered before I can preview it on the preview window. • Server side aggregation using Spring MVC Controllers

  Hi! We have a web site with multiple pages each with lot of AJAX calls. All the Ajax calls go to a data proxy layer written in Spring 3 MVC application. In order to reduce the load on the server we are planning to aggregate calls on the client and send to the proxy layer. For ex: we have two calls /controller1/action1 and /controller2/action2 in different controllers. I want to write an aggregate controller and call it from the client instead of making two calls to the individual controllers. Something like /aggregatecontroller/aggregate (and we will post the information regarding which calls are being aggregated and required parameters). Is there any way we can call another controller/action from a controller/action and get output? The flow will be something like this: a. Call /aggregatecontroller/aggregate with info regd call1 and call2 b. aggregate action understands that it needs to aggregate call1 and call2 c. it calls /controller1/action1 and gets the response d. it calls /controller2/action2 and gets the response e. it merges both in a json response and sends it back to browser. Please let me know if you have any suggestion regd how to do this or if you think there is a better approach to do the server side aggregation. Thanks for your time.

• RequestBuilder timeouts and browser connection limits per domain.

  This is specifically about GWT's RequestBuilder, but should apply to general XHR as well. My company is having me build a near realtime chat application over HTTP. Yes, I do realize there are better ways to do chat aplications, but this is what they want. Eventually we want it working on the iPad/iPhone as well so flash is out, which rules out websockets and comet as well, I think? Anyway, I'm running into issues were I've set GWT's RequestBuilder timeout to 10 seconds and we get very random and sporadic timeouts. We've got error handling and emailing on the server side and never get any errors, which suggests the underlying XHR request that RequestBuilder is built on, never gets to the server and times out after 10 seconds. We're using these request to poll the server for new messages rather often and also for sending new messages to the server and also polling (less frequently) for other parts of application. What I'm afraid of is that we're running into the browsers limit on concurrent connections to the same domain (2 for IE by default?). Now my question is - If I construct a RequestBuilder and call it's send() method and the browser blocks it from sending until one of the 2 connections per domain is free, does the timeout still start while the request is being blocked or will it not start until the browser actually releases the underlying XHR? I hope that's clear, if not please let me know and I'll try to explain more.

• Need advanced mod_rewrite assistance

  This is driving me bananas. I have tried multiple fixes, and have even found a generator (generateit.net/mod-rewrite/) to create my .htaccess files, but I cannot get this to work. The .htaccess file is being read - if I put garbage characters in, I get a 500 server error. Also, mod rewrite was working in a simpler format, but the client wants even more SEO, so here I am. My intention: Take the url of brinkofdesign.com/portfolio/123/456/some_seo_text.html and send it to brinkofdesign.com/brink_portfolio.php?catid=123&locationid=456. The full contents of my .htaccess file are: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^portfolio([^/]*)/([^/]*)/([^/]*)\.html$ /portfolio_brink.php?catid=$1&locationid=$2&page=$3 [NC,L] RewriteRule ^(.*)blog(.+)([0-9+])(.+).html$ blog.php?blogid=$3 [NC,L] RewriteRule ^blog.xml$ blogfeed.php The blog and blogfeed parts work fine. If it matters, I do have an actual portfolio.php page - could this be breaking it? There is no actual /portfolio/ folder - this is just part of the SEO nme. Also, the host is 1and1.com. Real life tests: brinkofdesign.com/portfolio/1/1/birmingham_al_corporate_branding.html loads my actual portfolio.php page - which is supposed to be a landing page for the portfolio, as opposed to the brink_portfolio.php page, which is my detail record page. No variables are passed (echoing out the contents of the $_GET array gives an empty array). Typing in an non SEO link like brinkofdesign.com/brink_portfolio.php?catid=1&locationid=1 does work correctly. Gurus, please help me!

• Why Is Apache Giving 403?

  I am getting 403 Errors from Apache when I send too many, 12, synchronous HTTP Posts via a desktop app I am building in XCode / Objective-C. The 12 POST requests are just a few kb each and go out instantly one after the other and the Apache Error Log shows... client denied by server configuration: /the-path/the-file.php Apache 2.0 PHP 5 and I have this same setup working fine on my local machine. The error is coming from a VPS with my host, which runs very fast and smooth and has plenty of resources. To debug I threw a sleep(1); function (stalls script execution by 1 second) into the php file and that fixed it. This makes me think that I am breaking some limit for too many requests for a single IP in a certain amount of time. I have googled and combed PHP ini and Apache configs, but I cannot find what that directive/setting might be. I should mention that the although it varies the first 4 or 5 POSTS usually work then it starts returning the 403 error intermittently after that. Just really acting like its bogging down. Any ideas?

  Hello, I need help dealing with an array in my java program. in my first class, "test", I set 4 variables and then send them to my other class (test2). arr[i] = new test2(id, fname, lname, case); at that point, variables are set and then I want to return those variables. So in the test2 class, I have a method that strictly returns one of those variables public int getId(){ return id; } I understand this is a little stupid, but professor gets what professor wants I guess. What I want to do now is in my main method in "test" I want to retrieve that variable and sort the array based on that int. Unfortunately, I have to create my own sort function, but I think this would work for what I want to do. for(j = 0; j < arr.length; j++){ int indexMin =j; for(i = j; i < arr.length;i++){ if(arr[i] < arr[indexMin]){ indexMin = i; } } int tmp = arr[j]; arr[j] = arr[indexMin]; arr[indexMin] = tmp; } I appreciate any help anyone could provide. • Is it possible to spoof or reuse VIEWSTATE or detect if it is protected from modification?

  Question ASP and ASP.NET web applications use a value called VIEWSTATE in forms. From what I understand, this is used to persist some kind of state on the client between requests to the web server. I have never worked with ASP or ASP.NET and need some help with two questions (and some sub-questions): 1) Is it possible to programmatically spoof/construct a VIEWSTATE for a form? Clarification: can a program look at a form and from that construct the contents of the base64-encoded VIEWSTATE value? 1 a) Or can it always just be left out? 1 b) Can an old VIEWSTATE for a particular form be reused in a later invocation of the same form, or would it just be luck if that worked? 2) I gather from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms972976.aspx#viewstate_topic12 that it is possible to turn on security so that the VIEWSTATE becomes secure from spoofing. Is it possible for a program to detect that a VIEWSTATE is safeguarded in such a way? 2 a) Is there a one-to-one mapping between the occurrence of EVENTVALIDATION values and secure VIEWSTATEs? Regarding 1) and 2), if yes, can I have a hint about how I would do that? For 2) I am thinking I could base64-decode the value and search for a string that always is found in unencrypted VIEWSTATEs. "First:"? Something else? Background I have made a small tool for detecting and exploiting so called CSRF vulnerabilities. I use it to quickly make proof of concepts of such vulnerabilities that I send to the affected site owners. • Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer data output is damaged

  I use Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer to generate .xls file and it works fine until I have to deal with a large amount of data. On certain stage it just writes some nonsense chars and quits filling certain columns. However some columns are field up to the end (generally numeric data) I'm not quite sure how the xls document is formed: row by row, or col by col... Also it is obviously not an error in a string, because when i cut out some data, the error appears a little bit further. • NMEA data received but empty. Is there any secret?

  I have a tablet "Futjitsu Stylistic Q550". It's running on Windows 7 (not Phone!). It has a built-in GPS-receiver "Sierra Wireless". I need to parse NMEA data from COM-port. I can do it but it's always empty! Like "$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53". I've tried standing on open space a long time (so my Android device had located me via GPS for a long time) but NMEA data still empty. So I suppose that GPS is off. But I don't know how to figure it out. I've tried send to COM port $PARAM,START,0*61 but no changes. I've tried to insert SIM-card into the device, as it was suggested on one forum but result was the same. Well is it possible that GPS is idle or something or it's just not working? And if it is idle or off how can I enable it? And.. That looks strange but GSV enumerates satellites but everyone of them has still no data e.g.: $GPGSV,4,1,16,32,,,,11,,,,23,,,*78

• Loop elements with Jquery and call Omniture s.tl() function to track

  Hi, i have a page with a list of items. Each item has a print now link (a.printMe) to print each item. At the end of the list, there's a print all link (a.printAll) to print all items. I want to track number of times an item was printed. If a.printAll link is clicked, then i will send all the item's tracking value to Omniture. I added tracking string into individual item's a.printMe href attribute and track with the following functions: $('a.printMe').click(function() { var value = $(this).attr('href'); track(value); }); $('a.printAll').click(function() { $('a.printMe').each(function() { this.click(); }); // works in IE only. I finally got the above to work in IE but not Firefox. Anyone encounter this before?

What can I do to get such an empty XML? I tried adding the nillable=true annotation to the elements however, this returns me an XML with the xsi:nil="true" which then causes my unmarshaller to ignore this. How do I achieve this?

I should add this is all within the expires_in time frame so its not that the access_token has expired

I'm not well versed in this so I'm not sure why it's doing this. When the program starts uploading a file it checks to see if it's logged in and if not, it calls the login method. In that method is this block of code. if (this.resultCode != 230) { this.sendCommand("PASS " + password); if (!(this.resultCode == 230 || this.resultCode == 202)) { this.cleanup(); throw new FtpException(this.result.Substring(4)); } } On the line that says this.sendCommand("PASS"... it goes into this code. private void sendCommand(String command) { if (this.verboseDebugging) Debug.WriteLine(command, "FtpClient"); Byte[] cmdBytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes((command + "\r\n").ToCharArray()); clientSocket.Send(cmdBytes, cmdBytes.Length, 0); this.readResponse(); } If I let the program run, it times out. However if I step through it into the sendCommand method it executes fine. Does anyone know why it would work fine when I step through it? Nothing on our end has changed and I've been told nothing on the client's end has changed so I'm stumped. Thanks.

• Paginating requests to an API

  I'm consuming (via urllib/urllib2) an API that returns XML results. The API always returns the total_hit_count for my query, but only allows me to retrieve results in batches of, say, 100 or 1000. The API stipulates I need to specify a start_pos and end_pos for offsetting this, in order to walk through the results. Say the urllib request looks like "http://someservice?query='test'&start_pos=X&end_pos=Y". If I send an initial 'taster' query with lowest data transfer such as http://someservice?query='test'&start_pos=1&end_pos=1 in order to get back a result of, for conjecture, total_hits = 1234, I'd like to work out an approach to most cleanly request those 1234 results in batches of, again say, 100 or 1000 or... This is what I came up with so far, and it seems to work, but I'd like to know if you would have done things differently or if I could improve upon this: hits_per_page=1000 # or 1000 or 200 or whatever, adjustable total_hits = 1234 # retreived with BSoup from 'taster query' base_url = "http://someservice?query='test'" startdoc_positions = [n for n in range(1, total_hits, hits_per_page)] enddoc_positions = [startdoc_position + hits_per_page - 1 for startdoc_position in startdoc_positions] for start, end in zip(startdoc_positions, enddoc_positions): if end total_hits: end = total_hits print "url to request is:\n ", print "%s&start_pos=%s&end_pos=%s" % (base_url, start, end) p.s. • Javascript XMLHttpRequest Post method

  Hey So I have a question about posting using an XMLHttpRequest. In theory, if I am to post a username and password to an https domain (which I have yet to get working, unfortunately) would the responseText then change to the next website, or should the text fields become filled in? What normally happens is you navigate to this page via browser, enter a username and password, and it uses a POST method when the submit button is clicked, doing some authentication under the hood and returning a different page. I'm not trying to check the credentials as much as I'm trying to get it (the script) to log in so it can access the next page. Granted, the credentials will have to be valid for that. Thanks all.

• Showing Loading screen during REST service request in android app ?

  Currently here is what I am following, As soon as my app is launched, I have to send a request for REST service, It will take little time , so I thought of showing loading screen, In onCreate() of my Activity , first thing will be to show loading screen(progress dialog) , And I kick off the background Activity using AsyncTask , i.e. requesting for REST service and onPostexecute() I close the dialog and then I do setContentView(myxml); and update the UI . Can this approach be improved ? Problem which I faced was , Sometimes , Garbage collector may start(due to various reasons) and my app hangs at loading screen forever , because of Garbage collector , even request for REST service is not sent and because of it some wake up call comes and rest is disaster and Force close. But sometimes even ForceClose doesnot come fast , may be because of GC. so I cannot even go back and stuck in loading screen. Only thing which I can do at that point is to come back HOME. After that If I come back to my app its still loading , so definitely this approach seems to be a bad design. Whats the right approach ?

• Why I can't get all UDP packets?

  My program use UdpClient to try to receive 27 responses from 27 hosts. The size of the response is 10KB. My broadband incoming bandwidth is 150KB/s. The 27 responses are sent from the hosts almost at the same time and for every 10 secs. However, I can only receive 8 - 17 responses each time. The number of responses that I can receive is quite dynamic but within the range. Can anyone tell me why? why can't I receive all? I understand UDP is not reliable. but I tried receiving 5 - 10 responses at the same time, it worked. I guess the network links are not so bad. The code is very simple. ON the 27 hosts, I just use UdpClient to send 10KB to my machine. On my machine, I have one UdpClient receive datagrams. Each time I get a data, I create a thread to handle it (basically handling it means just print out "I received 10KB", but it runs in a thread). listener = new UDPListener(Port); listener.Start(); while (true) { try { UDPContext context = listener.Accept(); ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(new WaitCallback(HandleMessage), context); } catch (Exception) { } } If I reduce the size of the response down to 3KB, the case gets much better that roughly 25 responses can be received. Any more idea? UDP buffer problems???
