• How can I recover my ext4 ubuntu partition from my windows parition?

  I dual boot windows and ubuntu 10.04. I accidentally did an rm -r * in my home directory and deleted a bunch of files and folders that I need to recover. How can I recover these files from my windows xp partition? If there's isn't a way to do this from windows, what's the best way to do it in ubuntu? I'd prefer a graphical interface if that's possible. I appreciate the help.

  Hi all, I am using Apache Ant to generate Javadoc for my program which has many projects(or modules). However, I just want to generate Javadoc for Interfaces ONLY and I do not know how to check if a file is a class or interface in Ant. Someone suggested me that I should use and specify a list of files to exclude or include. However, there are hundreds of files in my program and specifying a list of class files to exclude is impossible. Does anyone have some ideas, please?

• .NET: Split web application into multiple DLLs?

  Is it possible to compile some code-behind (.cs) files (eg. all .cs file under a particular folder) into one DLL, and the rest into another DLL? We have some common codes and pages (aspx + cs files) that we want to use across many websites. We want this to compile into a DLL (eg. Common.dll). The rest of the files will be website-specific, unique to each website and should compile into another DLL (eg. Website3.dll) This is so that if we make changes to a common code-behind, we can just publish Common.dll onto all our websites. Is that possible using VS Web Developer Express 2008? Thanks in advance. EDIT: We are already using a class library, but not for pages (aspx+cs)

• Moving multiple folders all at once in Outlook

  Constantly at my shop, we are moving Outlook (or other email program) files between computers or Windows Installations, and sometimes, people have HUNDREDS of folders. Is there a quick way to move ALL the folders from multiple data files (*.PST) into one single file, without dragging each and every folder? No, I don't want to move the Inbox folder into the other Inbox folder for the quick move, I want something simple like selecting all folders and moving that way. Does such a method exist in any version of Outlook?

• Is .gitignore not working or I have misunderstood it?

  I am very new to git. I have a .gitignore in the my working folder. *.jpg *.gif *.png system/* */Zend/* .idea/*.* Well, I did git init and then git add *. At this it worked fine and ignored the above files. But when I did some changes, ran the same command it puts the ignored files into staging area. The reason why I am using git add * is because I work on many files and adding each file would be a overkill. Update: Here are messages when I run git add * second time.. #new file: application/vendors/Zend/XmlRpc/Value/String.php #new file: application/vendors/Zend/XmlRpc/Value/Struct.php ... The list is too long.

• Classic ASP and MVC side-by-side, different projects?

  I've tried asking this in a few different ways, but let's give it another shot (as I've yet to receive an answer and this is driving me nuts!) I have a very large classic ASP 3.0 application (~350K lines) that I want to start migrating to ASP.NET MVC. I'd like to keep the old ASP files in a separate project from the MVC stuff. Ideas on how to debug these? Should I just dump the files in the same folder and create two different projects ( a WAP and an MVC app) that reference the relevant files and folders required by each? This should work, but does anyone have a better idea? I need the ability to migrate small parts of the application individually as this will probably take a year or two to complete.

  I have been working on the mobile version of my rails application.I am using the approach of using the same controller and rendering a mobile view when the request is from a mobile device. I am using jquery mobile in mobile views. For mobile views I did not use any layout for the views because it is the same as loading the required files in each view. In this approach, Every request essentially loads all of the required js,css files which i feel is making the mobile site to load slowly.   Batch file search and replace using wildcards I have a html (txt) file I am using as a template or sourcefile to create further html files.  Filename = pg_0001.htm and it contains a line of code thus: pg_0001.jpg I want to parse the pg_0001.htm sourcefile, increment and replace the jpeg string, like this:  "pg_0002.jpg", and then output the edited htm file to a new filename pg_0002.htm I then take each newly created file (pg_0002.htm, pg_0003.htm etc) as the sourcefile and repeat the processing until I have reached my target goal (let's say 100 newly created htm files containing code to display the corresponding jpeg. It must be done this way (fileX.htm containing fileX.jpg) because there is other javascript that uses these incremented filenames as function input. I used to know how to write incrementing batch files many years ago but I'm old & very rusty now.  Can anyone please help me do this?  Many thanks in advance. regards Harry

• In ASP.NET MVC (3.0/Razor), do you prefer multiple views, or conditionals within views? Why?

  For my new web app, I'm debating on using multiple views, or conditionals within views. An example scenario would be showing different info to users who are authenticated vs non-authenticated. This could be handled a couple ways. In the controller, check IsAuthenticated and return a view based on that In the view, check IsAuthenticated and show blocks of info based on that Pros of multiple views: Smaller, less complicated view - next to no logic in the view Pros of single views: less view files to maintain The obvious cons are the opposites of the pros: more files to maintain or more complicated view files. Which do you prefer? Why? Any pros/cons I haven't outlined here? Update: Assume each view uses a layout page and partial views to abstract the obviously repetitive code.

  We're uploading files to a temporary folder in a bucket. After that, we're trying to copy the uploaded files to its actual folder then delete the files in the temporary folder. It doesn't timeout when working with a single file. We're using the ThreeSharp API. • Mercurial - How to stop tracking modified file but keep the first version in repository.

  I create the hg repository with my source tree. I want to keep the first version of some files such as Makefile in the repository and then hg don't see it modified even through I modified it. Original problem is that ./configure usually modifies the Makefile but I don't want the build files to committed in the repository. So I want to keep only first version of configure and Makefile in the repository so that everybody who clone my repository can run ./configure by themself and not bother the repository I tried hg remove or hg forget but those are stop tracking and also delete the files in the next revision of reporitory. .hgignore doesn't do the things too. I think of hg revert everytimes I run ./configure or make but it's not efficient way. Are there any better ways?

• Silverlight Video Player that plays .MP4 & .FLV

  I am currently using the Silverlight 2 Video Player to stream videos. I have been very pleased with it but it only seems to stream .WMV files. Does anyone know if there is a good Silverlight video player that will stream other types of video files, especially .MP4 & .FLV? I would be happy to use Silverlight 3 if necessary. EDIT: Because I like this player and have not found a great option, I am considering encoding files as I receive them so that they will always be streamed later as a .WMV. Unless I determine a good player (I am considering flash at this point), I will have to go down this road.

• Linux - File was deleted and then reappeared when folder was zipped

  Hello, I am using Backtrack 4 Final, which is a Linux distro that is Ubuntu based. I had a directory that contained around 5 files. I deleted one of the files, which sent it to the trash. I then zipped the directory up (now containing 4 files), using this command: zip -r directory.zip directory/ When I then unzipped directory.zip, the file I deleted was in there again. I couldn't believe this, so I zipped up the directory again, and the file reappeared again but this time could not be opened because the operating system said it didn't exist or something. I don't remember the exact error, and I cannot make this happen again. Would anyone happen to know why a file that was deleted from a directory would reappear in that directory after it was zipped up? Thank you.

  I am running NDB mysql. the log files fills up the /var directory. therefore i cant start the ndbd service now. as a temporary fix, i have deleted the log files and again working fine. but again the log files fill up the /var directory. i got plenty of space in other partition. therefore i would like to swap the partition from one directory to /var. here if my input from df -h Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 ext3 54G 2.9G 49G 6% / /dev/cciss/c0d0p1 ext3 99M 14M 81M 14% /boot none tmpfs 1013M 0 1013M 0% /dev/shm /dev/cciss/c0d0p2 ext3 9.7G 9.7G 0 100% /var there are plenty of space in /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00. • gnat programming studio auto fix issues

  hi, I'm using GNAT Programming Studio to update some ada files. I have a style check, which for these old files produces literally thousands of warnings. Helpfully GPS has a little auto fix 'wrench' icon in the locations view, that's great but I don't want to go through and click the wrench ten thousand times. Is there a way to have it correct these errors automatically without me having to click each wrench? They are all right so I want to be changed automatically. I saw some documentation saying you could do it: http://www.adacore.com/wp-content/files/auto_update/gps-docs/Code-Fixing.html But I don't get the auto fix option when I right click. Maybe you need the pro version? I've tried everything I can think of. This would save hours of work, so it's really appreciated if someone could help on this. Thanks!

  Hi all, I am using ASP.NEt MVC . I want to upload .zip files for which I am using html input file upload control on my view. I want only .zip files to be uploaded. I want to check that my .zip contains only two files - both having extensions .txt and one of them having name "start". Can anyone please suggest me about how to check this?
