• How to play audio through a bluetooth headset in Windows 7.

  I recently did an in-place upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 RTM. For the most part, things have went brilliantly. The only issue I've been facing is regarding my bluetooth headset, a Dell BH200. The laptop is an Inspiron 1720. I can get Windows 7 to pair with the headset, and even get the bluetooth settings to show that there is stereo audio available. The problem is that the bluetooth headset never shows up in my sound output devices list. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the bluetooth drivers from Dell, tried turning on/off all of the features of the headset, removing the bluetooth driver and letting windows redetect and install but nothing has worked so far. I guess I should mention that the headset worked fine in Vista. Anyone have any ideas?

  I picked up some infiniband cards off ebay for development/testing purposes. I was hoping that there would be some drivers available under windows 7, but it doesn't seem to be recognised by the OFED software which would seem to contain windows drivers.   I'm thinking of migrating a Desktop machine (Windows XP) to a VM solution (VirtualBox or MS Virtual PC). The reason is that I need a new hardware anyways and I don't want to (cannot properly) reinstall all the "business" apps on there. So my plan goes as follows: I'll pull an image of the machine and restore it to a Virtual Machine using Acronis Universal Restore or some other tool that can restore to dissimilar hardware. (The process is largely irrelevant for this question I think.) Once I have this virtual machine properly running I'll move it to a new PC. So the question now is. Are there any caveats wrt. to Windows (XP?) being installed in a VM and the VM machine being moved around on different host computers? Can anything break in the OS inside the VM? Will there be troubles wrt. to Windows activation?

  I upgraded my PC to 4 GB RAM and I get only 3 GB. Windows 7 32-Bit consider that I've 4 GB RAM but didn't use more than 3 GB. Someone told me that MS Windows 32-bit doesn't support RAM larger than 3 GB. So please is there any way to make my OS "Windows 7 32-Bit" support more than 3 GB RAM ? *`Note: I can't move to 64-bit because I've many program doesn't work with a 64-bit OS. Edit:: I tried what Mr. Wonsungi advised me but whenever I check this option: Enable support for 4 GB of RAM I get the following error: 'Cannot access to the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E88DCCE0-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31}.' There is no "CLSID" in my registry, I don't know why!.

• How can I make the icon font color on a windows 7 prof desktop work?

  I have C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Scenes\img25.jpg as wallpaper (I think it's a standard windows wallpaper.) The desktop icon font color is white. It cannot be read without heavy eye pain. I want it to be black. I couldn't change the icon font color in advanced properties (ie the good old window color settings dialog) for aero for windows 7 professional x32. I've heard that the icon font color should change automatically to suit my needs, it doesn't work as advertised in my scenario. How could I fix it and rescue my eyes from popping out?   I'm thinking of changing to a new laptop that only comes with a 256gb SSD. It's not tons of room, but not inadequate either. One thing I have on my HD at the moment that takes up a lot of room but is rarely used is a partition with a bootable version of Windows 7 (I'm on a mac). Would it be possible to install a bootable copy of Windows 7 onto a flash drive? I was thinking of using a 64gb Sandisk Cruzer USB 2.0, so that when I need to dip into Windows every now and again I could just plug in the flash drive.

You can change your lock screen for your user account like so: Hit the Windows key. Right click your user name in the upper right hand corner, choose Change Account Picture. Click Lock Screen, choose a new picture. However, if you then connect to the computer where you've done this from another computer via RDP, using the same account, the physical machine you've connected to will display the "default" user lock screen - a stylized Space Needle / Seattle picture. It's not a bad picture, but I'd like to change it.

• Is it possible to upgrade HTC HD2 to Windows Mobile 7? [closed]

  I have HD2 over one year and I have to say it was pretty wrong purchase. Both HTC HW and MS OS (Windows Mobile 6.5) are somehow crappy. I had several crashes wich resulted in hard reset (no flashing and almost no additionally installed applications) and phone was under repair two times (2x replaced motherboard and 1x replaced dislay). After these reapirs at least HW works pretty well but OS is still bad. I would like to upgrade the phone to Windows Mobile 7. I'm not looking for some flashing (I already saw some guides). I'm ready to pay for upgrade to have it legal. Is it possible? Buying new phone just to have SW upgrade is ridiculous. Btw. My primary phone is iPhone 4 and I think on iPhone 3GS it is possible to upgrade OS iOS 4 so I would like to see similar possibility with Windows Mobile.

• How do I connect a laptop running Windows 7 to an Android phone using WiFi Direct?

  From where I am sitting, Windows 7 does not appear to support WiFi Direct connections to Android mobile devices. Specifically, turning on WiFi Direct on my Samsung Galaxy S II does not make the device visible as a potential WiFi network connection. Windows 8 is said to support WiFi Direct, but I have no desire to upgrade at this time. I have successfully set up ad hoc WiFi connections between the S II and my laptop before, but as you may be aware, these are not the same as WiFi Direct. Before posting this question, I searched [ "Windows 7" "WiFi Direct" ] and variations thereof, and dutifully slogged through dozens of lame or irrelevant responses on various forums, badly made YouTube videos, and probable Trojan horse distribution sites. If someone out there knows how to do this, it's buried in the noise.

  I have +- 5yrs old pc runnig windows 7 and I've been getting blue screen recently. I had win 8 and I got a lof of erros with ram memory, so I reinstalled back to Win 7. (I have 2x 2 GB RAM) To make a better image of my errors - I get them while writing email, installing nvidia driver, sound driver, running RAM test. I got a log of my last error, could anyone tell me what is it? Should I get new RAM memories?   I saw a similar question for linux, but nothing for windows. I'm getting a new 1TB drive for my dev box @ work. The OS will be Windows 7 Pro with 8GB of RAM and just the single 1TB drive. Backups are not a concern, and I won't be storing large multimedia files. I want the fastest possible performance for general windows usage and for compilation. I will defrag nightly with a smart defragger liker perfectdisk. Should I just go with a single partition, or is there some way I can lay things out for the best performance?

  As per subject. I've found some ways of scripting printer creation on Windows print servers using WMI, but it looks like WMI doesn't support clustered print servers (or clustered servers at all). The scripts in C:\Windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts are useless because, they are not cluster-aware and end up creating the printers on the active cluster node (just like using WMI). The only tool I found that was able to work on a clustered print server is printui.exe (shortcut for rundll32 printui.dll, PrintUIEntry), but it can't create TCP printing ports: it can only add printers if the port already exists. How can I completely script printer creation (including TCP printing ports!) on a clustered Windows Server 2008 R2 print server?

• How can I stop ntbackup requiring my new password every time I'm forced to change my Windows passwor

  I have a scheduled job that runs each night using ntbackup which copies a folder on my HDD to a network share. The problem is that every time I'm required to change my Windows password I have to remember to change it in ntbackup aswell, otherwise the backup fails silently i.e. I get no warning that the backup isn't being done. Is there a way to schedule this job so it will automatically pick up my new Windows password, or somehow not be tied to my main login? My user account type is Debugger, not full Administrator, so I'm not sure if that would restrict me in any way, e.g. still forcing a four-weekly password change on a dedicated user account for this. The PC runs XP SP2 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 domain.

• Recommendations for a cloud/hosted server environment that can run different Windows VMs?

  I currently have a colocated Win 2008 server that I use for hosting different windows VMs for testing: Win 2008, Win XP, Vista, Win7, Win 2000. I'd like to ditch the server and use something like Amazone AWS but the key thing is I need to be able to launch VMs for these different windows versions. AWS doesn't allow this currently. Can anyone recommend somewhere that I could use? The main reasons I want to get away from my own server are: administration: backup, windows updates, etc space: disk limitations mean I can't have all the VMs I want. I'd like to be able to pay for space incrementally. I'll typically only run 1-3 at a time but want lots of snapshots of different machines.

• What's the best tool to use to automatically backup selected folders from Windows to my external hard drive?

  I have a 1TB external hard drive and I'd like to periodically schedule backups of my "Libraries" in Windows to the external drive. I'd prefer if it could detect what files have changed and periodically transfer them to the drive instead of I having to do it manually. Is there a way in Windows 7 to do this automatically?   If Windows XP "welcome screen" is disabled (manually or by joining a domain) an ordinary window is used to log-in (like it was in Windows 2000). This window is styled with default Windows XP "Luna" theme (blue window title, etc). All theme customizations (including turning them off at all to use plain Win2000/98 window style) are normally applied after a user logs-in. How can I alter this? • Office 2010 & Windows 7 - 'File' is currently in use. Try again later

  The issue: when saving a document from either Word, Excel or PowerPoint 2010, every so often it will show the message 'file' is currently in use. Try again later. We started our rollout of Windows 7 beginning of this year, and this issue was infrequent, but is now affecting enough people to be a problem. Usually, if you clear the alert, then save again, it works fine, though only in Word or Excel. Annoyingly, PowerPoint has a bad habit of changing the file to read-only after the error. So the only choice is to save to a new file name. The issue seems to only happen to files in the user's My Documents, which is a redirection folder from their HomeShare. The HomeShares are spread across 3 different file servers, 2 Windows 2003 and 1 Windows 2008 R2. Has anyone seen this issue and know how to fix it?

  I'm using 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 64 bit – dual boot on the same computer. Connecting to the same wireless network. And it turns out that on Windows I get a more stable and stronger signal than on Ubuntu. To my knowledge there's a router which serves as a gateway and then there's a cable connected to the router which goes further to ISP, so the results for both OS should be the same. I've tested the issue on both OSs at various times and it gave me the same result. The question is why? Why Ubuntu networking is worse than that of Windows?

  1) I just found a really interesting program that allows me to use a USB drive as a windows login key. It is called Rohos Logon Key. IF I remobve my USB drive/key from the PC then I can have the PC lock or hibernate or any other option, I have been looking for such a solution for many years but never knew one existed until this and it works much better then I imagined. I do have a couple minor issues though (im using Windows 7 pro). When I remove and then re-insert my USB key, windows prompts me with this dialog here... Generally when I get this I just click on "Continue without scanning" however I am looking for a solution to just make it not even show this at all, is it possible to disable it from showing? 2) I also get this dialog as well when I insert USB drives/key... Would it be possible to not show this as well or have it pick an option by default or anything really?

  I keep getting the error code 80072EFE and windows is not installing 11 important updates. Also .NET framework 3.5 is not getting installed it keeps saying that its not able to download. My internet connection is working fine and I am able to browse over the entire internet. I have not changed any of the settings and I am running on Windows 8. The error code I get for .NET is 0x800F0906. Windows live essential are also not getting downloaded. Is there some issue with the Microsoft servers these days?

I was wondering if there are any good, reasonable secure alternatives to poptop that in can install on our new Ubuntu server as a way to get VPN access from Windows clients (XP and 7) to get remote access into our Intranet. We only use the VPN to access files located inside the network; we do not need to use it as a proxy/gateway. I've looked into openVPN but it seemed way too complicated and I would prefer something built into Windows. A Windows 7 only solution is OK.
