  • Using NHibernate to insert/update using a SQL server-side DEFAULT value

    Several of our database tables contain LastModifiedDate columns. We would like these to stay synchronized based on a single time-source. Our best time-source, in this case, is the SQL Server itself since there is only one database server but multiple application servers which could potentially be off sync. I would like to be able to use NHibernate, but have it use either GETUTCDATE() or DEFAULT for the column value when updating or inserting rows on these tables. Thoughts?

    I have an iPad app that I would like to make Universal, however this seems alarmingly difficult. I've changed things around so that I support both builds, but when building, I get lots of errors about using UIPopOvers. Here're my questions: Why does UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() not compile or register on 3.1.3? Can I conditionally have variables in a class definition based on UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM()? If not, should I make two different view controllers? Thanks!

    Hi, I'm creating an interactive e-book for the iPad. This book will contain multiple pages that will consist of a lot of animations (frame and motion animations), transitions,... I was wondering what my development options are, should I use OpenGL, Quartz,...? I've use UIImageView.animationImages before and found that it had really bad performance.     I am playing with DxScene and VxScene: http://www.ksdev.com/dxscene/index.html It looks very nice and powerful: 3d accelerated vector graphics, cross plaform, nice effects, many 2d GUI controls (vector based), good scaling, transparency, rotating (x, y, z), 3d models, etc. Even with many effects, the CPU stays very low (0%)! http://www.ksdev.com/dxscene/snapshot/screen0.jpeg But can it be seen as a good WPF alternative for Delphi? And does anyone use it instead of normal Delphi VCL?

  • What's an appropriate HTTP status code to return by a REST API service for a validation failure?

    I'm currently returning 401 Unauthorized whenever I encounter a validation failure in my Django/Piston based REST API application. Having had a look at the HTTP Status Code Registry I'm not convinced that this is an appropriate code for a validation failure, what do y'all recommend? 400 Bad Request 401 Unauthorized 403 Forbidden 405 Method Not Allowed 406 Not Acceptable 412 Precondition Failed 417 Expectation Failed 422 Unprocessable Entity 424 Failed Dependency Update: "Validation failure" above means an application level data validation failure ie. incorrectly specified datetime, bogus email address etc.
