  • vmware problems - networking - no packet response

    XP is my host. Ubuntu is my Guest in VMware. When I do the following commands, I should get SMTP respones but now get no response. I use wireshark to analayze it.   • Choose relayhost based on the postfix smtpd instance

    I'd like to setup a postfix host (using RHEL 5.4's default postfix, which is version 2.3) with the following characteristics: an SMTP listener listens on 10.0.0.1:25 and relays all e-mails to 10.0.0.1:2525 an SMTP listener listens on 10.0.0.1:2525 and relays all e-mails to 10.0.0.2:25 Basically the challenge here is to use two different relayhosts for the different SMTP listeners. Is it possible? Is there a better solution to achieve similar behavior?

  • Convert Ubuntu 10.04 into a server?

    Hello, I have Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Desktop version installed and am interested in running it as a server. I have already installed Apache, PHP, and MySQL. I am completely new to server administration. Would somebody please point me in a good direction to setting this up? I am sure there are numerous tutorials online, but I just can't seem to find one.   • Is CSF overkill?

    My server runs just my own sites (vBulletin forums - which are always patched with security fixes) and Rails sites using the latest version) so do I really need CSF? (http://configserver.com/cp/csf.html) Or is it unnecessary for this kind of server set-up? I have already done the usual (disable SSH login, pub-key auth, very strong passwords everywhere else etc) It was often recommended by users over at the cPanel forums - but I guess most of them are hosts there.

  • What options do I need to pass to compile something to /usr/lib64?

    I'm trying to install a newer version of libevent than is on my machine, so I can install memcached. However, the install for memcached complains that the libevent library isn't in /usr/lib64 and that it isn't 64bit. What options do I need to pass to ./configure to get it to compile as 64bit and/or into the /usr/lib64 directory? This is what I have at the moment: CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2" CXX=gcc CXXFLAGS="-O2" \ CC=gcc CXX=gcc \ ./configure --prefix=/usr Thanks!

  • Record keyboard/mouse macros for games

    I want to record a keyboard/mouse macro for automatically playing repetitive flash games. The programs I'm familiar with xnee/gnee/pnee and xmacro don't work under Ubuntu 10.04. (Xnee gives "Xnee failed due to bad data received from RECORD extension" for version 3.02, which is a known issue which I haven't found a solution for, and xmacro just plain doesn't work...) Are there any other methods I could use besides these two programs? Thanks

  • What's the appropriate way to upgrade Apache in RHEL?

    The version of Apache shipped in RHEL 5.4 is very old. A feature I need only shipped recently. It seems Apache upstream only ships tarballs, and omits binary packages. Obviously I could build from source, but what's the canonical way to upgrade a single package like this? Is it common procedure to drop a newer tarball in the existing SPEC, or does someone already do all this with an eye towards RHEL?

  • windows 7 internet speed significantly slower than ubuntu

    i have windows 7 x64 and ubuntu 10.04 installed on my machine. while i download at ~15 MiB/sec in ubuntu (reaches almost at an instant), it takes almost a minute or two for win7 to reach that speed while downloading -say- a film. also the connection becomes unresponsive for some time periods in win7. i experienced this in several win7 installations (x64 prof. always, same version).

    I just generated a certificate with a CN and two subject alternative names (3 differents fqdn) and i always get a handshake failure, whatever the ssl version i use: 14177:error:1407F0E5:SSL routines:SSL2_WRITE:ssl handshake failure:s2_pkt.c:428: 14176:error:1409E0E5:SSL routines:SSL3_WRITE_BYTES:ssl handshake failure:s3_pkt.c:530: I'm now asking myself if IIS 5 on win2000 does really support those certificates, any ideas ? I now have the difficulty of retrieving the data from the disks. All I have available are 2 Windows machines, one of which has sufficient free space to hold the data from the NAS. What would be the quickest and easiest way to retrieve the data from the disks?

  • Alienware m15x (older model) BSOD investigation

    A frined of mine asked me to help him with an Alienware m15x laptop that had a little service history. It was bought in june 2008, serviced in january 2009 for a random fps drop problem, Alienware returned it saying nothing was wrong. The laptop still had hiccups, but after juggling a few drivers and settings, the fps drops weren't as noticeable. Eventually it died in Sept. 2009. It would not boot up locking itself on a white/gray screen. (i think it was overheating .. clocking in 100 degrees Celsius). So back to Alienware it went. They replaced the GPU and all was fine. Up until these blue screens started showing up. One other thing that was updated was the HDD and a Windows 7 reinstall, in August. From then on it seems to have started its BSOD. Could this be the culprit? Why? 0_o The original Windows was Vista but it was upgraded with a digital download/purchase of Windows 7 Home Premium and activated after installing windows. No errors on the old HDD, just on the latest installation. LE:Due note that now the old HDD is used to see if issues re-occur. So please, I am in need of someone who can interpret these windows dump files: Minidump I may have come to some conflicting conclusions. So if someone can clarify each dump/date and the probable cause/error it had; and a final conclusion or solution, we would be very grateful.   • Is there a plugin for photoshop that lets me write right to left text?

    I know there is a ME version of Photoshop, but I've seen a lot of plugins that do Arabic text on regular Photoshop (which include right to left text). What I'm looking for is just the right to left thing, without all the Arabic support. Is there any out there? Basically, typing typing "HELLO" should yield "OLLEH" exactly. Individual characters should not be reversed.

Instead, I want to create another virtual disk, and add it in a new LVM volume, which would include the existing disk, and this new one, in a seamless single mount point. We are using VMware vServer 4, under Lab Manager and Virtual Centre. Does SuSE support LVM in version 10 ? Thanks :-)

    Here is what happened: At first, I upgraded Mozilla Firefox browser to it's latest version. Then, I realized that all my bookmarks in Google Chrome were gone. In my panic, I imported the bookmarks of Firefox to Google Chrome just in case they were transferred, but they weren't. Then, I searched over my computer to find the bookmarks location of Chrome and I found the two relevant files Bookmarks Bookmarks.bak but they were updated too. What else can I do to restore my bookmarks?

  • Differences between Fedora servers

    I'm using Amazon EC2 and trying to choose a machine image (AMI) for my project. It seems all their LAMP AMIs are Fedora Core 4, but this seems like quite an old version, considering the current release is apparently Fedora 12, and < 10 releases are no longer supported. My question is how significantly different are the early fedora releases- is it crazy to be on versions 4 or even 8? (I realize this is probably a broad question)

  • VirtualBox OSE: Install Guest OS On Headless Host Via VNC?

    I've remotely installed VirtualBox OSE on my Gentoo box at home. I have everything set up and ready for the OS. However all the documentation I've read seems to say that you can only use the PUEL version in order to get remote access during installs - does anyone know if it's possible to do similar with the OSE but using VNC? Links to documentation or tutorials would be welcome, apparently my Google-Fu is failing me, if it's out there. Thanks.
