• iPhone SKD make the iPod controller appear

  Hi all, It's been a while I'm consulting stackoverflow, but this time I didn't find any answer :( My question is quite simple :) On an iPhone/iPod touch, play music. Double tap the home button while the music is playing. You will see appear a popup with the play/pause/next/previous buttons and a volume control. Do you know if it's possible to make this popup appear programmatically ? I mean, I would like to add a button in my app that will display the popup, avoiding the user to double tap the home button (most of them doesn't know this shortcut). Thank you in advance !

• Is html/javascript equivalent to as3/flex?

  Hello my fellow coders, As i notice for a while now (like everybody else in the industry), the RIA market is shifting from AS3/Flex to HTML/Javascript. What i would like to know is? Is html/javascript as powerfull as as3/Flex or are they entirely different. With other words can i build the exact same applictions with HTML(4/5) and Javascript as i can do with AS3/Flex? I'm not looking for the speed comparison? or bashing one technology over the other? I just want to know if is good for me to dive into javascript, JQuery...... PS. • MessageBox.Show not raising HelpRequested event

  I have a form that is showing a MessageBox using MessageBox.Show, and trying to receive events from the Help button on the MessageBox so I can execute my own code. The Microsoft documentation shows how to do this; however, using what is suggested does not work.   I just wanted to poll the community and see which plugins people are currently using to get all of these different technologies running in Eclipse. I saw this thread which mentioned Spket & WPT: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1575617/eclipse-which-plugins-for-html-javascript But I noticed that Spket doesn't seem to have been updated since October of 2009 so I'm wondering if it's still a good tool to use. I'm not sure what would be best for PHP since it seems like some of the tools are disjointed at the moment. For Actionscript I know I can just install the latest Flash Builder plugin and be done. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

• Fastest Way To Format a Plain Text Using Javascript

  I have a huge plain text document, about 700kb which is very big for plain texts and I need to format it on cloud converting it to HTML, but the only things that I need to replace, format to HTML so it can be displayed by the browser, are bold and italic. For bold at the plain text they are like this: Not on bold... **bold text here** not bold here And italic like this: Not italic... *italic text* no italic Just like StackOverflow does for their formatting, but the problem is that I need to make it a lot faster, since the text is so big... One of my ideas was to add a page slide, so I the script just need to format some part of the text, not it all, then after the user changes the page the script would be called again, but the problem is how I can make the code for this all?

The excerpt answer provided by bbum is below: The problem isn't the assignment, it is much more likely that you declared your instance variable to be BOOL *initialBroadcast;. There is no reason to declare the instance variable to be a pointer (at least not unless you really do need a C array of BOOLs).. Remove the * from the declaration. 1.Is there anything wrong in using a pointer variable even when I do not have to maintain an array of BOOLs? 2.I think even if avoiding them a good practice, it is not specific to objective-C and applies to all programming languages which has pointers.   I did a quick search on how to check whether Internet is available or not. Most of them talked about making InterOp calls to wininet.dll. One of the answers pointed towards System.Net.NetworkInformation namespace. Exploring the namespace I found a class Ping which could be used to pinging to our servers from code, and checking whether server is available or not. What I want to ask is how this solution compares to other solutions? All the choices should be unique, so once the option is selected in one combobox, it should be removed from others. • FileInputStream and FileOutputStream to the same file: Is a read() guaranteed to see all write()s that "happened before"?

  I am using a file as a cache for big data. One thread writes to it sequentially, another thread reads it sequentially. Can I be sure that all data that has been written (by write()) in one thread can be read() from another thread, assuming a proper "happens-before" relationship in terms of the Java memory model? Is this behavior documented? EDIT: In my JDK, FileOutputSream does not override flush(), and OutputStream.flush() is empty. That's why I'm wondering... EDIT^2: The streams in question are owned exclusively by a class that I have full control of. Each stream is guaranteed to be accesses by one thread only. My tests show that it works as expected, but I'm still wondering if this is guaranteed and documented. • Simple C++ container class that is thread-safe for writing

  I am writing a multi-threaded program using OpenMP in C++. At one point my program forks into many threads, each of which need to add "jobs" to some container that keeps track of all added jobs. Each job can just be a pointer to some object. Basically, I just need the add pointers to some container from several threads at the same time. Is there a simple solution that performs well? After some googling, I found that STL containers are not thread-safe. Some stackoverflow threads address this question, but none that forms a consensus on a simple solution.

• PHPUnit test for error thrown with wrong argument type

  I'm just starting with PHPUnit and am ok with all assert* methods, but can't figure out how to test for error thrown when the wrong argument is provided to the method - say hinted with array like so: public function(array $list) { } and then tested with null as argument. Could someone please provide an example of how to test for this sort of errors? I've checked quite a few posts on stackoverflow, but couldn't find the answer to this specific issue. I understand that the connect framework provides CSRF middleware, but I am not sure how to implement it in the scope of client-side Ajax post requests. • Java: how to take a screenshot fast

  I am implementing a simple eye tracker, which requires fast screenshoting of what is happening on the screen simultaneously with capturing the video from webcam. The thing is that the way of doing it with Robot, mentioned here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2475303/java-library-for-capturing-active-window-screenshot is extremely slow. By the way, retrieving the video from a webcam works much faster and returns the byte array, which is very fast to be processed. Does anybody know a faster solution? C++ libraries, which can be linked to Java for doing this may help as well. Thank you!

• Line breaks in XML are ignored by the SAX Parser

  I am parsing an XML with some CData that contains line breaks. The parser ignores these line breaks. I am trying to figure out a way to catch these newlines in the characters() method and replace them with a break tag for display purposes. I have tried almost everything under the sun and have been scouring stackoverflow for the past 3 hours. I tried every combination of replacing "\n", "\r\n" and so on with a break tag in the characters() method of the parser. I am absolutely helpless right about now.... and would sincerely appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!!!

• How to align checkboxes and their labels consistently cross-browsers

  This is one of the minor CSS problems that plagues me constantly. How do folks around StackOverflow vertically align checkboxes and their labels consistently cross-browser? Whenever I align them right in Safari (usually using vertical-align: baseline on the input), they're completely off in Firefox and IE. Fix it in Firefox, and Safari and IE are inevitably messed up. I waste time on this every time I code a form. Here's the standard code that I work with: <form> <div> <label><input type="checkbox" /> Label text</label> </div> </form> I usually use Eric Meyer's reset, so form elements are relatively clean of overrides.   Hi I have a view that is not strongly typed. However I have in this view a partial view that is strongly typed. How do I do I pass the model to this strongly typed view? I tried something like public ActionResult Test() { MyData = new Data(); MyData.One = 1; return View("Test",MyData) } In my TestView <% Html.RenderPartial("PartialView",Model); %> This give me a stackoverflow exception. So I am not sure how to pass it on. Of course I don't want to make the test view strongly typed if possible as what happens if I had like 10 strongly typed partial views in that view I would need like some sort of wrapper.

• Alternatives to FastDateFormat for efficient date parsing?

  Well aware of performance and thread issues with SimpleDateFormat, I decided to go with FastDateFormat, until I realized that FastDateFormat is for formatting only, no parsing! Is there an alternative to FastDateFormat, that is ready to use out of the box and much faster than SimpleDateFormat? I believe FastDateFormat is one of the faster ones, so anything that is about as fast would do. Just curious , any idea why FastDateFormat does not support parsing? Doesn't it seriously limit its use? Thanks! EDIT Holy crap, I just left a comment and that literally REMOVED a good answer! This appears a serious bug on stackoverflow!
