  Has anyone had any luck getting Windows Live mail to sync with a Palm Pre with WebOS 1.1? I have tried the manual setup options setting up the pop3 incoming server on port 995 with SSL encryption and the smtp out going server on both ports 25 and 587 with TTL encryption. It acts like it is connected, but it just keeps wanting to refresh and never shows anything in the inbox.

  Can anyone recommend (free) Thesaurus software for Windows XP (that isn't WordWeb)? It has to work with British English. I want to install standalone software that gives me easy access (right click, keyboard shortcut or something) to alternatives to the selected word when I'm writing, whether it's an email, a text doc in notepad, on an internet forum or whatever. I've tried WordWeb but found it pretty horrible - I want something that acts more like the Thesaurus in MS Word, giving a dozen or so decent alternatives to the selected word.

• Command aliases in DOS?

  How can I make command aliases in DOS like I would with bash? I found out about doskey in a forum thread, so I can do something like: doskey ls=dir /b ...and now the command ls acts a little more like ls on Unix. (I type ls so often in DOS, it isn't funny.) But how do I get this to stick between sessions? It goes away the next time I open cmd.exe. (Is there something like .bash_profile?)

• Google Chrome Interferes with Copy and Paste in Excel

  I have got a following problem: Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) function in Excel 2010 does not work (or acts weirdly) is I have Google Chrome opened at the same time. This issue is Excel-specific meaning that in Word or Powerpoint copy/paste works fine. It is also Chrome- and CoolNovo-specific as the copy/paste in Excel does not interfere with other internet browsers. Any suggestions? Cheers, Dan

  I have 2 Domain Controllers / DNS servers on Windows 2012, their IPs are 10.0.1.10 and 10.0.1.11 Another server acts as the DHCP server for clients, and sets their primary and secondary DNS to the IP addresses of the previously mentioned domain controllers / DNS servers. However I cannot resolve internet domain names, presumably as they are not hosted on the DNS servers. So my question is what do I have to do on my setup to resolve external domains? Thank you! This worked fine in 2007 but now in Office 2010, whilst the show is still launched correctly from the index button, Powerpoint reopens on top of it, so now the show is hidden behind the Powerpoint startup page.   Hi, I've a Virtual Private Server with Windows 2003 and root access. This server mainly acts as a web hosting machine (IIS, Apache). Additionally it is used as a mail server. Is it possible to isolate a mailserver (for example HMailServer) by using VMware Server on Windows 2003 in order to avoid potential viruses moving from the guest into the host system? • ls hangs after NFS server reboot

  I've got server A and server B. B acts as an nfs server, A mounts from B. Both are running on EC2. Sometimes I have to shut down B and start a new instance (identical instance). After B is back up, trying to do anything inside the mounted directory on A (ls for example) just hangs. I'm trying to set up a cron that checks the status of the mount, and remounts if anything is wrong. Is there any way to check the status of a mount?

  The tmux attach command acts more like a combination of screen -r and screen -x -- first it trys to attach to the most recently detached session, and then if none is available it will attach to a currently attached session. I want to emulate the behavior of screen -R: first try to attach to a detached session, then start a new session if there were no detached sessions. What is the best way to achieve this in tmux?

  I am using Word 2007 and am trying to use the combo: Ctrl + mouse scroll To zoom in and out of the doc. This function works fine in other programs (like google-chrome) Is there a place to fix this ? edit: I found out that when I scroll the mouse FAST the desired effect happens. I would like it to also work with slower scrolling. The thing is also that on any other program - the scrolling acts as normal. (so this is not a system wide preference)

• VMware guest eats 100% cpu

  I have a Windows 7 x64 guest that acts very strange - the VM is very slow and taskmgr will consume 50% (with 2 cores) or up to 99% (single) of the CPU when everything else is idle. Host is Windows 7 x64 with VMware Workstation 7.0.1 VMware tools are installed the same VM, when running on another PC with VMware Server 2.0 will work OK (CPU at ~0% when idle) I've tried (with no effects) enabled/disabled 3d selected 1 or 2 cores adjusted memory (1gb/500mb) adjusted the bios mem.hotadd = "FALSE" disabled page trimming Windows 7 x86 guests on the same machine do not have this problem.

• Two python distributions, sudo picking the wrong one

  I'm back to Linux after an over 10 year abstinence (fool me thinks). And a little rusty in the sys admin department. I'm faced with an issue with my python distribution. I'm using Python 2.7, but based on the Anaconda flavour. I followed the standard guidance but recently I discovered an issue that I'm not sure how to fix. Under sudo, the standard Python as comes with Ubuntu is provided. Under my user account python points to the Anaconda version: dhk@localhost:~/home/$which python /opt/anaconda/bin/python dhk@localhost:~/home/$sudo which python /usr/bin/python This is an issue as using sudo pip [anything] usually acts on the wrong directory, yet I cannot use it without sudo.

• Google Talk Plugin in GMail on MacBook 2,1

  I'd like to use the chat section in GMail to make phone calls. I've downloaded and installed the Google Talk plugin, and it acts like it knows what it's doing. But when I try to make calls, the internal laptop mic doesn't work at all (i.e., no one on the other end can hear me). In the GMail chat settings, I've tried selecting "Default Device" for the microphone, as well as "Internal Audio Analog Stereo." No matter which setting I try, none seem to work. As I said at the top, this is only a problem in Ubuntu; it works just fine in OSX and Windows (which means that yes, my Google Voice account is properly configured). Here are my tech specs: Ubuntu 10.10 Kernel Linux 2.6.35-24-generic Gnome 2.32.0 Google Chrome 8.0.552.237 Google Talk Plugin (google-talkplugin) 1.8.0.0-1 MacBook (2,1) w/ internal microphone Any help will be greatly appreciated! • How can architects work with self-organizing Scrum teams?

  An organization with a number of agile Scrum teams also has a small group of people appointed as "enterprise architects". The EA group acts as control and gatekeeper for quality and adherence to decisions. This leads to overlaps between the team decision and EA decisions. For instance, the team might want to use library X or want to use REST instead of SOAP, but the EA does not approve of that. Now, this can lead to frustration when team decisions are overruled. Taken far enough, it can potentially lead to a situation where the EA people "grabs" all power and the team ends up feeling demotivated and not very agile at all. The Scrum guides has this to say about it: Self-organizing: No one (not even the Scrum Master) tells the Development Team how to turn Product Backlog into Increments of potentially releasable functionality. Is that reasonable? Should the EA team be disbanded? Should the teams refuse or simply comply?
