  • How to connect to the internet through broadband through ALFA USB adapter

    Hi evryone I have question that really make me mad..I search every where and I couldn't find the answer.pleas read the details carefully: I have broadband (Wan mini-port PPPOE) account from a wierless network near from us...I'm receiving the signal with grid and Alfa AWUS036H wireless usb adapter.In all of windows version I can connect through my broadband when I do these steps 1.setup new connection or network 2.connect to the internet 3.setup new broadband connection then I but the ISP name(not Important just to remember my broadband connection) and then i put the username and password then connect. I can find and connect to my wireless networkbut when I make Dsl connection in ubuntu 12.04LTS and I put the username and password I couldn't connect.. I tried this tool"gnome dial up tool" and wouldn't work.. in other way..(how can I connect to broadband connection through ALFA USB adapter??) my wireless network have a servers when i check with winbox: mac adress ip adress server name version router board verson and I connect PPP through them... any answer will help me ..so we could solve this problem. thanks.

  • Laptop works fine with ac adapter, hangs after login screen using battery

    I did an Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop Edition clean install (amd64 version) on a notebook Medion Akoya E1311. With AC adapter everything works fine, but using battery, it hangs after login screen. I can type login, password too, and I can press login button. But then I can see mouse cursor and lower task bar, not upper, and nothing works. The only thing I can do is login on a terminal with ctrl+alt+F1, this is ok. Nothing seems alive on Gnome except mouse cursor. The only thing I did after Ubuntu fresh install was donwloading driver for RTL8191SE from Realtek web, because WiFi didn't work, now works fine, with ac adapter of course. Hardware is a Notebook Medion Akoya E1311 AMD Sempron 210U 1 GB DDR2 ATI RS690M (Radeon X1200 Series) Western Digital 160GB wireless RTL8191SEvB ethernet RTL8101E/RTL8102E

  • Is it possible to load ListPreference items from an adapter?

    I'm setting out to create a settings activity for my app. I've defined a PreferenceActivity with a nice layout including a ListPreference object for the user to select a bluetooth device. I'm having trouble dynamically populating the list. I would like to populate ListPreference with values from an array adapter (which I'll create and populate with relevant bluetooth device names). If this were a spinner View, I could just call setAdapter(). However with the ListPreference object I can't figure out how to attach an adapter (findviewByID won't cast from View To ListPreference, so I can't even get a handle to the object). I would like to attach an adapter and then populate the adapter with values, which in turn would populate the ListPreference with values.

  • Will Parallel-port dongle work on USB-to-Parallel Adapter?

    We have a niche program running on a Win2K laptop that uses a security dongle connected to a parallel port for authentication. The laptop is getting creaky and I spent a frustrating night last night shopping various websites for a new laptop that had a parallel port. Seems I'm about three years late [G]. The question I have, is, if I buy a new(ish) laptop and use a USB-to-Parallel Port adapter, will the security dongle work? I know I'm not being specific about the app, but it's one most people wouldn't have heard of anyways. I've been guessing the answer to my question is no, since the app won't know to send a request out to the non-existent port. But, if the process actually is that the dongle sends a message INTO the computer every now and then, then it might work. And, I'm not sure whether the dongle is only needed at program startup time or randomly. The dongle is a 'permanent' addition to the old laptop. This is all about the money. We can have a newly-updated version of the program (which won't add any features we need) for the princely sum of $2700. Or we can spend $500 on a refurbed laptop still running WinXP, add a 30 buck adapter and keep the same solid, stolid performance we've come to appreciate. But it all comes down to the dongle behaviour. Oh, and a dock won't work. The whole laptop issue is about moving about the various nooks and crannies of the building with laptop in hand.   • Windows 7 - Virtualbox host only adapter doesn't get an IP

    When I create a new host only network adapter, it will not set the IP address I assign to it. After I save the IP address & netmask it looks like it works (I see the Windows 7 User Account Control verification box), but the IP address doesn't get stored on the adapter. I have tried adding/removing the adapter from within virtualbox and settings the values manually in the Windows aapter settings dialogue. I am using a Windows 7 host. Does anyone know why the settings don't get saved, or how to get more information?   • corrupted, hidden, wireless network adapter from "Network Connections" in Windows 7

    The issue is that when I install a wireless network adapter on my Windows 7 Professional machine I have no connectivity, the system tray icon has a red X. First, I tried the obvious, install updated drivers from the manufacturer. When I did this, the Network Connections icon had gray bars and there was no connectivity. So I tried installling the network adapter on a different computer on the same network and I verified that it does work with no issues. Next, I ran scan disk with no issues. Next, I ran sfc as admin with no issues. At this point I turned to the router and turned SSID broadcast on but that didn't help. I turned MAC address filtering off at the router but that didn't help. Whenever I installed the original network adapter (a wireless N usb adapter with WPA2 TKIP+AES) it showed up as "Wireless Network Connection 2" with a grayed out icon and no connectivity. Lastly, I tried installing two different "verified working" usb wireless adapters on to the Windows 7 Pro machine. The results were the same "Wireless Network Connection 2" that had a green bar icon but no connectivity. I installed the manufacturers software and it indicated the NIC was not there even thought the driver installed successfully in Device Manager. I guess I should mention, I first tried (insanely in vain) to use the (worthless) Windows Network troubleshooter. The results were....drumroll please... There is a problem with the network adapter... well No Duh! Also, during all of this the network adapter is always showing as "Working Properly" in the properties dialogue of Device Manager for the wireless NIC. I checked for hidden devices in Device Manager but there were none. Here is my fundamental question that I've tried to find in the Windows 7 support center with no luck. How do I remove/delete/uninstall network adapters from the Windows 7 registry? in particular hidden, corrupted network adapters, that used to be working.

  • SATA Blu-Ray drive not detected via USB adapter

    I'm using an SATA blu-ray drive (Lite-On IHOS104), connected via a USB adapter to my Windows 7 (32-bit) notebook. The first time I plugged the adapter in, it worked perfectly. The drive appeared in Explorer, and my player software was able to play an encrypted Blu-Ray disc just fine. After the first reboot, it never worked again. Now it shows up as "removable media" with a size of 0 bytes, irregardless of whether a disk is inserted or not. The drive does not show up under the green "eject USB device" icon in the taskbar. The adapter is powered using a separate power adapter. I have tried: disconnecting all other USB devices testing with a DVD instead of a Blu-Ray disc letting Windows search for updated drivers for the drive - there are none using the same drive and adapter on another Win7 (but x64) computer. They work perfectly. using other USB ports on the same notebook - tried them all. using a different SATA/USB-adapter What else can I do to diagnose this problem?

  • Wireless not working on desktop with Asus USB-N13 (B1) wireless adapter

    I am trying to connect my desktop to a wireless network. I have purchased an ASUS USB-N13 B1 adapter. I have followed instructions for installing drivers and disabling conflicting drivers. I have thoroughly searched and could not find a solution. The adapter is recognized and powered on. I have entered the ssid and password information into the wireless network configuration. Other machines can connect to this wireless network, and the machine can connect online via ethernet without issue.   • Help with the RT3290 Wireless adapter

    I know there is a lot of questions about RT3290 wireless adapter, but I read many many of them and noone helped me with my problem. So, I have the HP Pavilion dm1 laptop and I installed Xubuntu 13.10 on it. During the instalation it poped up that I'm able to connect to the internet via network adapter. I did it obviously, but it worked for like 5 seconds, then it said that network connection is down and I couldn't connect to my router, even if i could actually see network connections avaible. Then (when installation ended) I rebooted my computer. My network was avaible! I could connect and browse the internet smoothly. Next day I turned on my laptop and I saw my wireless connection is no longer avaible, so I plugged laptop to the internet via Ethernet cable and started to explore internet searching solution for my problem. I did this: How do I get a Ralink RT3290 wireless card working? And I was able to connect BUT my kernel started to panic every time I started Mozilla or any program that is connecting to the internet. Every tip i searched was almost the same as the link above. I tried to do this many ways. I even Reinstalled Xubuntu to do everything with clear system but the same thing happened. THEN I installed Linux Mint to check whether it is a major or just Xubuntu problem. Linux Mint responded even worse, because I wasn't even able to use terminal (I clearly messed something up). I would really, really appreciate every help, because I do want to solve this problem and finally be able to use Xubuntu/Ubuntu. I'm waiting for advice from anyone patiently. If anyone wants some details, just tell me which ones.

  • Can't install Linux drivers for ASUS N-13 wireless adapter

    I have a USB N13 wireless Adapter with install CD-- For Windows. I downloaded drivers from ASUS FOR N13 for Linux. Disregard install CD that came with adapter; it's for Windows. I then downloaded Windows Wireless driver install program app from Software Center in Ubuntu 12.10. The problem is me. I am newbie with all things linux; software sources, G Debi, default archive manager, synaptic package manager and the Terminal. The downloaded driver file is a .zip file. I managed to extract it to a tar.gz file and then to open it to the contained files. When I use the Windows Wireless driver program it ends up telling me there is no .inf file and goes no further. It wants to install .inf file but I don't even see one in all the files. Can someone please help me . I think you can tell by my wording I don't have a clue. I hope this is'nt too chatty. I've tried to be explicit and to the point. Thank you. Oh, this is on an ASUS LAPTOP K53E. I've looked all over Ask Ubuntu and finally found some questions even on the N13 but they didn't help; still some differences in the exact problem.

Meanwhile I have two IDE to SATA power adapters that came with my "USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE cable" http://www.amazon.com/USB-2-0-SATA-Cable-Adapter/dp/B001OORN06 3rd pic on the left. I was wondering if I would just open up my computer and use it to plug it my SATA drives to the IDE power sources and mount it to the motherboard, would it damage my drives in the long run or have any other significant effects. A friend told me he knows people who have had their HD burn out because of this

It seems that my connection with my wireless network keeps going in and out.     The Trace File Source adapter is a useful addition to your SSIS toolbox.  It allows you to read 2005 and 2008 profiler traces stored as .trc files and read them into the Data Flow.  From there you can perform filtering and analysis using the power of SSIS. There is no need for a SQL Server connection this just uses the trace file. Example Usages Cache warming for SQL Server Analysis Services Reading the flight recorder Find out the longest running queries on a server Analyze statements for CPU, memory by user or some other criteria you choose Properties The Trace File Source adapter has two properties, both of which combine to control the source trace file that is read at runtime. SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 trace files are supported for both the Database Engine (SQL Server) and Analysis Services. The properties are managed by the Editor form or can be set directly from the Properties Grid in Visual Studio. Property Type Description AccessMode Enumeration This property determines how the Filename property is interpreted. The values available are: DirectInput Variable Filename String This property holds the path for trace file to load (*.trc). The value is either a full path, or the name of a variable which contains the full path to the trace file, depending on the AccessMode property. Trace Column Definition Hopefully the majority of you can skip this section entirely, but if you encounter some problems processing a trace file this may explain it and allow you to fix the problem. The component is built upon the trace management API provided by Microsoft. Unfortunately API methods that expose the schema of a trace file have known issues and are unreliable, put simply the data often differs from what was specified. To overcome these limitations the component uses  some simple XML files. These files enable the trace column data types and sizing attributes to be overridden. For example SQL Server Profiler or TMO generated structures define EventClass as an integer, but the real value is a string. TraceDataColumnsSQL.xml  - SQL Server Database Engine Trace Columns TraceDataColumnsAS.xml    - SQL Server Analysis Services Trace Columns The files can be found in the %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\PipelineComponents folder, e.g. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\PipelineComponents\TraceDataColumnsSQL.xml" "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\PipelineComponents\TraceDataColumnsAS.xml" If at runtime the component encounters a type conversion or sizing error it is most likely due to a discrepancy between the column definition as reported by the API and the actual value encountered. Whilst most common issues have already been fixed through these files we have implemented specific exception traps to direct you to the files to enable you to fix any further issues due to different usage or data scenarios that we have not tested. An example error that you can fix through these files is shown below. Buffer exception writing value to column 'Column Name'. The string value is 999 characters in length, the column is only 111. Columns can be overridden by the TraceDataColumns XML files in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\PipelineComponents\TraceDataColumnsAS.xml". Installation The component is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. You may need to restart the SQL Server Integration Services service, as this caches information about what components are installed, as well as restarting any open instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. Finally you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Data Flow Items tab, and then check the Trace File Source transformation in the Choose Toolbox Items window. This process has been described in detail in the related FAQ entry for How do I install a task or transform component? We recommend you follow best practice and apply the current Microsoft SQL Server Service pack to your SQL Server servers and workstations. Please note that the Microsoft Trace classes used in the component are not supported on 64-bit platforms. When developing a package it is very useful to have a destination adapter that does nothing but consume rows with no setup requirement. You often want run a package part way through development, or just add a path so you can set a Data Viewer. There are stock tasks that can be used, but with the Trash Destination all columns are treated as selected automatically (usage type of read-only), so the pipeline knows they are required. It is also obvious that this is for development or diagnostic purposes, and is clearly not a part of the functional design of the package. It is also ideal for just playing around and exploring concepts in SSIS, and is often used in conjunction with the Data Generator Source. Using these two components it is easy to setup a test of an expression in the Derived Column Transformation for example. The Data Generator Source provides some dummy data, and the Trash Destination allows you to anchor the output path and set a Data Viewer to examine the results. It can also be used when performance tuning packages. It is a consistent and known quantity that has no external influences, so it is ideal as a destination when breaking the data flow into sections to isolate a bottleneck. The adapter is really simple to use and requires no setup. Simply drop it onto the pipeline designer and use it to terminate your data flow path. Installation The component is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. Doing the diagnosis gives me these: There might be a problem with the driver for the Local Area Connection Adapter The Local Area Connection 2 Adapter is disabled How do I resolve those? These are the things I've tried: In cmd do ipconfig /renew In Device Manager, go to Network Adapter. (I don't see any red exclamation marks)

  • Trace File Source Adapter

    The Trace File Source adapter is a useful addition to your SSIS toolbox.  It allows you to read 2005 and 2008 profiler traces stored as .trc files and read them into the Data Flow.  From there you can perform filtering and analysis using the power of SSIS. There is no need for a SQL Server connection this just uses the trace file. Example Usages Cache warming for SQL Server Analysis Services Reading the flight recorder Find out the longest running queries on a server Analyze statements for CPU, memory by user or some other criteria you choose Properties The Trace File Source adapter has two properties, both of which combine to control the source trace file that is read at runtime. SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 trace files are supported for both the Database Engine (SQL Server) and Analysis Services. The properties are managed by the Editor form or can be set directly from the Properties Grid in Visual Studio. Property Type Description AccessMode Enumeration This property determines how the Filename property is interpreted. The values available are: DirectInput Variable Filename String This property holds the path for trace file to load (*.trc). The value is either a full path, or the name of a variable which contains the full path to the trace file, depending on the AccessMode property. Trace Column Definition Hopefully the majority of you can skip this section entirely, but if you encounter some problems processing a trace file this may explain it and allow you to fix the problem. The component is built upon the trace management API provided by Microsoft. Unfortunately API methods that expose the schema of a trace file have known issues and are unreliable, put simply the data often differs from what was specified. To overcome these limitations the component uses  some simple XML files. These files enable the trace column data types and sizing attributes to be overridden. For example SQL Server Profiler or TMO generated structures define EventClass as an integer, but the real value is a string. TraceDataColumnsSQL.xml  - SQL Server Database Engine Trace Columns TraceDataColumnsAS.xml    - SQL Server Analysis Services Trace Columns The files can be found in the %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\PipelineComponents folder, e.g. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\PipelineComponents\TraceDataColumnsSQL.xml" "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\PipelineComponents\TraceDataColumnsAS.xml" If at runtime the component encounters a type conversion or sizing error it is most likely due to a discrepancy between the column definition as reported by the API and the actual value encountered. Whilst most common issues have already been fixed through these files we have implemented specific exception traps to direct you to the files to enable you to fix any further issues due to different usage or data scenarios that we have not tested. An example error that you can fix through these files is shown below. Buffer exception writing value to column 'Column Name'. The string value is 999 characters in length, the column is only 111. Columns can be overridden by the TraceDataColumns XML files in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\PipelineComponents\TraceDataColumnsAS.xml". Installation The component is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. You may need to restart the SQL Server Integration Services service, as this caches information about what components are installed, as well as restarting any open instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. Finally you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Data Flow Items tab, and then check the Trace File Source transformation in the Choose Toolbox Items window. This process has been described in detail in the related FAQ entry for How do I install a task or transform component? We recommend you follow best practice and apply the current Microsoft SQL Server Service pack to your SQL Server servers and workstations. Please note that the Microsoft Trace classes used in the component are not supported on 64-bit platforms. To use the Trace File Source on a 64-bit host you need to ensure you have the 32-bit (x86) tools available, and the way you execute your package is setup to use them, please see the help topic 64-bit Considerations for Integration Services for more details.
